The unbelievably prolific Haruomi Hosono is one of the major architects of modern Japanese pop music. With his encyclopedic knowledge of music and boundless curiosity for new sounds, Hosono has put his unmistakable stamp on hundreds of recordings as a session player, producer, and auteur of his own idiosyncratic musical world. Born and raised in central Tokyo, his adolescent obsession with American pop culture informed his early forays into country music, which he would revisit later in his career. Hosono made his professional debut in 1969 as a member of Apryl Fool, whose heavy psychedelia was somewhat at odds with his influences, which leaned towards the rootsy sounds of Moby Grape and Buffalo Springfield. The latter was one of the main inspirations for his next group, Happy End, whose unique blend of West Coast sounds with Japanese lyrics proved to be highly influential over the course of three albums.

After Happy End’s amicable break up in 1973, Hosono released Hosono House, an intimate slice of Japanese Americana recorded at home with a back-to-basics approach akin to Music from Big Pink or McCartney. While his former band helped pave the way for the rise of “city pop” that reflected upon urban themes and city life, Hosono took a 180 degree turn towards the countryside for his highly-regarded first solo album. Located an hour from Tokyo in Sayama, Saitama Prefecture, the actual Hosono House was one of several American-style houses originally built for the families of troops stationed at the nearby Johnson Air Base, active during the post-war occupation years. By the early ‘70s this small community had become a hub for creative types looking for a break from Tokyo’s hustle and bustle – and cheaper rent. For Hosono, this was as close as he could get to living in America without leaving his home country. With rooms filled to the edges with recording gear, the house became a live-in studio for Hosono and his crack band – soon to become known as the in-demand session group Tin Pan Alley. The songs on Hosono House display the breadth of Hosono’s talents, from the hushed acoustic folk of “Rock-A-Bye My Baby” and the country twang of “Boku Wa Chotto” to the New Orleans funk of “Fuyu Koe” and the unexpected breakbeats in “Bara To Yajuu.” Lauded by artists such as Jim O’Rourke and Devendra Banhart, Hosono House remains a touchstone of the early phase of Hosono’s career.

Hosono’s solo career would take many twists and turns from this point forward, with forays into exotica, electronic, ambient, and techno, culminating in the massive success of techno pop group Yellow Magic Orchestra (YMO), who made their debut in 1978. Admired by artists ranging from Van Dyke Parks to Mac DeMarco, Hosono continues to forge ahead as he heads into his fifth decade as a musician. With the re-release of his key albums for the first time outside of Japan, his genius will be discovered by a whole new generation of fans around the world.

Canela En Surco, a new label set up by the Barcelona radio show of the same name, sets off with a reissue of the 1986 Cape Verdean ambient synth masterpiece, Vasco Martins' “Universo da Ilha”.

Originally conceived as a book of six poems that developed into a record, released independently in 1986, Universo Da Ilha sits at the cross-section of many different genres. Connecting contemporary New Age and ambient minimalist movements with traditional West African and Cape Verdean elements from the past (griot voices, djembe rhythms, melancholic morna), Vasco constructed his own “universe” where, in spite of the isolation of the island at the time, he transcended barriers and created a global record that was ahead of its time.

Vasco played synths and drum machines, and with the help of a small group of friends (Tey Gonçalves on percussion, Neney’s amazing griot voice, Luis Morais on sax and flute), he recorded this Not-Balearic-but-Atlantic Ambient odyssey on a 16-channel Peavey mixer directly to an Akai tape recorder, without overdubs.

Studio Gear Used: Korg MS-20, Korg MS-50, Korg Analog Sequencer, Yamaha DX-7, Roland Juno-106, Korg Delta

Canela en Surco started as a radio show six years ago in Barcelona’s Raval neighborhood, with a strong connection to the Celtic nation of Galicia and especially its Costa da Morte (Death Coast). Although Canela En Surco will always pay special attention to music made near the Atlantic Ocean and sung in Galician, Portuguese or Creole, label owners Abu Sou (Breixo Martínez) & Chez Ed (Eduardo Sánchez) promise to include a wider spectrum of genres - from Ambient Folk to Cosmic Synth to dance music - in subsequent releases.
The story behind this reissue starts two years ago, while record digging on a steep, narrow street in the Upper District of Lisbon, where Breixo Martínez found this sought-after Cape Verdean rarity that immediately blew his mind. Afterwards a friendship with the artist blossomed, the result of which is this record.

The LP comes in the original artwork, with an insert including pictures, lyrics, and a statement by the artist.

In November 1968, millions of double LPs were shipped to record stores worldwide ahead of that tumultuous year’s most anticipated music event: the November 22nd release of The BEATLES (soon to be better known as ‘The White Album’). With their ninth studio album, The Beatles took the world on a whole new trip, side one blasting off with the exhilarating rush of a screaming jet escorting Paul McCartney’s punchy, exuberant vocals on “Back In The U.S.S.R.” “Dear Prudence” came next, John Lennon warmly beckoning his friend and all of us to “look around.” George Harrison imparted timeless wisdom in “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” singing, “With every mistake we must surely be learning.” Ringo Starr’s “Don’t Pass Me By” marked his first solo songwriting credit on a Beatles album. For 50 years, ‘The White Album’ has invited its listeners to venture forth and explore the breadth and ambition of its music, delighting and inspiring each new generation in turn.

On November 9, The Beatles will release a suite of lavishly presented ‘White Album’ packages (Apple Corps Ltd./Capitol/UMe). The album’s 30 tracks are newly mixed by producer Giles Martin and mix engineer Sam Okell in stereo and 5.1 surround audio, joined by 27 early acoustic demos and 50 session takes, most of which are previously unreleased in any form.

“We had left Sgt. Pepper’s band to play in his sunny Elysian Fields and were now striding out in new directions without a map,” says Paul McCartney in his written introduction for the new ‘White Album’ releases.

This is the first time The BEATLES (‘White Album’) has been remixed and presented with additional demos and session recordings. The album’s sweeping new edition follows 2017’s universally acclaimed Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band Anniversary Edition releases. To create the new stereo and 5.1 surround audio mixes for ‘The White Album,’ Martin and Okell worked with an expert team of engineers and audio restoration specialists at Abbey Road Studios in London. All the new ‘White Album’ releases include Martin’s new stereo album mix, sourced directly from the original four-track and eight-track session tapes. Martin’s new mix is guided by the album’s original stereo mix produced by his father, George Martin.

“In remixing ‘The White Album,’ we’ve tried to bring you as close as possible to The Beatles in the studio,” explains Giles Martin in his written introduction for the new edition. “We’ve peeled back the layers of the ‘Glass Onion’ with the hope of immersing old and new listeners into one of the most diverse and inspiring albums ever made.”

The Wynder K. Frog story evolves around Mick Weaver. After he switched from piano to organ he joined a band named The Chapters that would soon be renamed Wynder K. Frog and perform material from James Brown's Flames, Booker T. and The MGs or even songs learned through Georgie Fame's recordings and Graham Bond's repertoire. Wynder K. Frog moved to London and became regulars in the city's R&B scene playing at Swingin' London's clubs like the Tiles or The Marquee. A contract with Island Records was secured and -under the wings of producers like Chris Blackwell, Guy Stevens, Jimmy Miller or Gus Dudgeon- Wynder K Frog, a name that would eventually be used as a pseudonym for Weaver more than a proper band name, did some some amazing Hammond organ-ized recordings and issued in three LPs and a bunch of cool 45s.

At the end of the 1960s, Weaver would quit the "band scene" to become one of the most in demand session musicians and throughout his career he'd be heard backing names such as Eric Burdon, Roger Chapman, Dave Gilmour, Keef Hartley, Alexis Korner, Ralph McTell, Taj Mahal or Otis Rush a.o, but his LPs as Wynder K Frog are classic Hammond sound from the 1960s UK and will appeal to those into Brian Auger, Graham Bond, The Artwoods, Zoot Money, Jimmy McGriff, Booker T. & The MGs and the likes.

SUNSHINE SUPER FROG
Recorded mostly in 1966 and issued in 1967, Wynder K Frog's first LP came out of sessions produced by Chris Blackwell, Jimmy Miller and Syd Dale. Weaver was assuming more and more the identity of Wynder K Frog and was backed by session musicians rather than by his live band. It consisted in organ led instrumental covers of songs from the Island catalogue, some built over rejected backing tracks for other artists of the label like Jimmy Cliff, Jackie Edwards and Owen Gray and some new recordings of hits like Spencer Davis Group's "Somebody Help Me", plus some covers of american R&B hits by the likes of Sam & Dave, Willie Mitchell or Wilson Pickett. The end result gave an idea of the Wynder K Frog sound, resulting in a top mix of dance club go-go sounds, perfect for any allnighter at the Tiles or any Swingin' London venue of the 1960s. First ever vinyl reissue. Limited edition to 500 copies only. Bonus tracks not on the original LP. Remastered sound. Insert with liner notes by Nick Rossi and photos. Beautifully housed in three back-flapped 1960s UK style picture sleeve

The first-time vinyl reissue of the sole album from UK DIY legends Milk From Cheltenham, originally released in 1983 on famed It’s War Boys imprint, is recommended for fans of Swell Maps, The Faust Tapes and LAFMS.

“Flashback to no-when (1978) in a musty cellar beneath a record store in Brixton, later to become the humble 8-track recording studio of It’s War Boys. Milk From Cheltenham would regularly jam and invite friends / enemies to participate with whatever weapons / instruments they chose to deploy, making live recordings on an odd triple microphone input cassette player. By the time of the recordings at Surrey Sound in 1981-82, we had reduced in size from a hive of toxicity to a triptych of poisoners: Victorr Lounge, Salamander and myself.

“Like rabid quantum monkeys with broken typewriters, we were allowed to run loose in the studio, under the supervision of tonmeister Chris Grey and head zookeeper L. Voag. There was always a cornucopia of exotic instruments including kettle drums, synthesizers and electric sitar. To make some of the basement tapes sound bigger, Chris would play them through vast speakers and re-record the results. The footsteps you hear is our mate strolling around in cowboy boots on top of one of the speakers.

“Milk were hot—like a triplet mega-brain generously juiced on creative steroids—and this was before our special splice-and-be-damned bricolage of the tapes, interpolating into the jams a pastiche of Morricone lock grooves, early Sparks, radio fragments, a JFK speech and samples from our most cherished record, Christmas Carols With Breezy (a creepy singing rabbit). One track mined a session at Cold Storage (home studio of This Heat) where everyone played in different parts of the building, separated according to instruments and without much idea of what anyone else would be doing.

The Never Before Issued Soundtrack from Austrian Prog-Psych Masters Paternoster.
Before releasing their lone self-titled debut album, one of the most rare rock records to be released
in Europe in the 1970s, Paternoster provided the soundtrack for a film that could only have been
made while the psychedelic movement was still in its first wave. The group’s first recordings
presented here are the soundtrack for Herbert Holba’s 1971 hippie sci-fi film Die Ersten Tage (The
First Days), screened at the Berlin International Film Festival, and interestingly played on Austrian
TV in August of that year. The material issued here is the genesis of Paternoster and set the stage for
the release of one of the world’s great rock albums with their self-titled debut the following year.
The music has been painstakingly transferred directly from master tapes, never before released in
any form. The extensive, photo-filled booklet documents the history of the band, Holba’s film, and
how psychedelic rock and film collided in Vienna’s 70s underground.
The package also includes a download card for WAV files with bonus tracks, including the band’s
demos for their masterpiece album, and the entire Die Ersten Tage film.

INTO THE FIRE
The third Wynder K Frog album was released only in the USA in 1970, once Weaver had already abandoned the project and started his session musician career. Out Of The Frying Pan was doing well in the States, copies still selling steadily since it had appeared, and United Artists thought it'd be a good idea to release it under the Into The Fire title in order to present it as kind of a sequel to Frying Pan. The material, mostly written by Weaver and his side men for the sessions, takes the sound one step further adding heavier sounds and funkier rhythms, not far from what was being done in USA studios like Muscle Shoals at that time.

Soul Jazz Records’ latest album ‘Yoruba! Songs and Rhythms for the Yoruba Gods in Nigeria’ is newly recorded in Lagos, Nigeria. The album is co-produced by Soul Jazz Records label head Stuart Baker and Laolu Akins (founding member of the legendary 1970s Nigerian Afro-Funk/Rock group Blo). Yoruba! features an array of local master drummers led by Olatunji Samson Sotimirin and singers (featuring the lead vocals of Janet Olufanmilayo Abe) performing heavyweight Afro-rhythms, with talking drums, Bata and Dundun drums and a mass of percussion in these deep spiritual and sacred songs used to honour and worship the traditional and ancient Yoruba gods in Nigeria, West Africa.
The enormous impact of Yoruba and West African music and culture is worldwide – from the first Afro-centric explorations of African-American jazz musicians in the 1950s such as Art Blakey, Randy Weston and Dizzy Gillespie, the explosion of Nu Yorican Latin music in New York City starting in the 1960s – Mambo, Boogaloo, Latin funk and soul - through to the sacred and powerful Afro-derived music of the religions of Santería in Cuba, Candomblé in Brazil and Voodoo in Haiti, which all came into existence on account of the Atlantic slave trade which began over 400 years ago. On a wider scale West African music remains the primary root of all African-American musical forms – from New Orleans jazz to Bronx rap, gospel, soul and more.
This album features songs honouring the Nigerian gods of the Yoruba traditional religion – Yemoja, Obatala, Ogun, Sango and others – as well as a selection of instrumental cuts focussing on the Bata and Dundun drums. The album comes complete with extensive text and photography included in the 40-page outsize booklet/gatefold double vinyl + inners showing the influence of Yoruba culture throughout the world and the social and historical context for the music contained here.

- kreischige Übungsraummitschnitte der Urbesetzung, lange bevor Superpunk ein Studio betreten sollten, u.a. mit Jan „Feita“ Müller (Tocotronic) an der Bassgitarre;
- fluffige Layouts, die später in ganz anderer Version ihren Weg auf die Studioalben fanden;
- alternative Mixe, auf denen plötzlich Trompeten und Chöre erklingen, die sich in der Rückschau keiner der Beteiligten mehr erklären kann;

Celer is the solo project of Will Long, an American musician, writer, and photographer living in Tokyo, Japan.

Sit down, put your arms out, and lean your head back. Your neck rests on the black leather of the couch, and warm sunlight only comes in if you open the windows. Marble angels watch over you, and the lights can stay low. While you're sleeping, I can't imagine that you're dreaming at all. I took photos of the curtains, and waited for what seemed like hours for you to wake up. I couldn't sleep at all, just sitting under the lights. I’ve dreamed of these moments we’ve had. Every interpretation is simplistic, an expectation that you can find some whole in something so thin. Even the thinnest knives can cut deeply. Dreams that love can be the solution, that I'll find everything here, no, everything there. Maybe next time everything will be perfect. I'll stop burning inside, I'll stop wanting everything to change. I'll be happy, I won't need anything. But I keep wavering, esurient and waiting. You search for love, all you need is love, and all you have are memories.

First ever reissue of this fabulous DUTCH MINIMAL SYNTH / WAVE album from 1985. Minx / Zimmerman were a duo comprised of Don Minx (Marq van Broekhoven, now a well known comics artist) and Aldomir Zimmerman (Tonnie Eiting), two friends from the city of Eindhoven, who were into comics, avant-garde music and homemade cassette recordings. Influenced by diverse bands / artists such as John Foxx, Brian Eno, Fad Gadget, Sparks or Devo, (among many others), they decided to release an album. “Minx / Zimermman” was the result, self-released on their Freudian Backroom label, now very sought-after by minimal wave collectors.

One can't speak of California's famed desert rock movement without mentioning the visionary producer/musician Chris Goss. The so-called Godfather of the Joshua Tree-centered scene, Goss has produced famed and acclaimed albums by groups like Queens Of The Stone Age, Foo Fighters, Kyuss, Screaming Trees, and numerous others. Before he was known as a renowned producer though, he was the singer/guitarist, and only consistent member of one of the most influential-yet-forgotten hard rock groups of all time: Masters of Reality. Masters Of Reality (Whose name was appropriately taken from a Black Sabbath song) had the distinction of being the only group signed to two different hip-hop labels of historical note: Def Jam and Delicious Vinyl. Originally label mates with Public Enemy and Slayer, Masters Of Reality's self-titled debut album was released by Def American in 1988. Two years later, Delicious Vinyl founders Matt Dike and Mike Ross, huge Masters fans, bought the band's contract from Rick Rubin and re-released the album with new cover artwork to renewed acclaim and commercial success. So many years later, Masters Of Reality’s debut still feels like a hard-hitting breath of fresh air in a modern landscape of over-produced rock music. It’s in this sense of tribute that Delicious Vinyl presents this re-issue of the acclaimed record. The audio has been re-mastered, and its original "Blue Garden" artwork has been restored, while Rick Rubin's hard rock production chops shine bright, and blare loudly in equal measure, on highlights like the foot-stomping "John Brown", the frantic live-staple "Domino", and proto-stoner pieces like "Doraldina's Prophecies" and "Kill The King."

O YAMA O explores a certain domestic and democratic quality of everyday life, born through associations to folk music of Japan and a folding of myth, tradition, and routine; the non-spectacular and the sublime.

Formed of musician and artist Rie Nakajima and Cafe OTO co-founder Keiko Yamamoto, the group has performed since 2014 at venues and festivals such as noshowspace, Ikon Gallery, Wysing Arts Centre, Supernormal, Borealis Festival, Mayhem, and allEars Festival.

Nakajima’s performance often focuses on the use of found and kinetic objects, using modest items such as rice bowls, toys, clockwork, balloons and small motors as instruments to create a “micro orchestra”. Elements are layered into impressive and immersive atmospheres. Yamamoto alternatively floats and charges through this with body and voice; chanting, incanting, thundering, whispering, stamping on the floor.

Their debut album consolidates their musical conversations into keenly paced studio music, the duo working with additional instrumentation and a resolved focus on melody to provide vivid portraits of folkloric Japan in song.

They move between pop and the philosophical, defined by the overall space afforded to texture and movement. In small, delicate sound an intimate musical climate is established that reflects on life, telling stories of improvised clockwork, whispered dreams, small movements of the hand and the rhythm to be found in the shuffle of a deck of cards.
Grandly theatric and dramatic flourishes add solidity to these illustrations, operas driven by the swooping energy and power of Yamamoto’s voice can be playful or emotionally charged, particularly when the duo arrange themselves in ensemble with violinist Billy Steiger and percussionist Marie Roux. Production by David Cunningham creates the shadowy presence of a leftfield Flying Lizards dubwise depth that adds subtle strangeness to the atmosphere. The result is something raw, full-bodied; full of energy, grace and mystery.

The United States Of America was not a commercially
successful music group, releasing only one studio album and
then immediately breaking up, but the depth of their influence
in the music scene could not be understated. More an
avant-garde project of experimental sounds and radical
politics, the band were early innovators of electronic
instrumentation, and were major inspirations to acts like
Portishead, Broadcast, and Dan Deacon. At the helm of this
group was the eccentric experimental composer Joseph Byrd,
(Dubbed Joe Byrd by Columbia Records, deciding that no rock
musician could be named 'Joseph.') who had got his start in
the Fluxus community of artistic experimentation, engaging in
early collaborations with Yoko Ono.
Though his band The United States Of America failed to catch
on with a wide audience, their lone record caught the attention
and support of Columbia Records producer John McClure,
who encouraged Joe Byrd to compose a follow-up. Byrd would
gather an extended group of West Coast musicians and
performers, among them famed session musicians Ted
Greene on guitar, Tom Scott on saxophone, and even narration
from radio personality Ernie "Ghouliardi" Anderson. Byrd would
dub this collective The Field Hippies, and with them produced
a three-part, politically-charged acid rock suite titled
The American Metaphysical Circus.
Though once again major commercial success eluded Joe
Byrd, his 2nd project became every bit as influential as The
United States Of America had. The American Metaphysical
Circus proved to be an early adaptor of synthesizers and
vocoders, and received high praise for its combining of
brass-heavy psych-rock arrangements with experimental
sound techniques in tape delays, loops, backwards vocals,
and other recording tricks.

New Others Part One is the fifth studio album from This Will Destroy You. It was produced, engineered, and mixed by John Congleton, the man responsible for the sound of the band’s wildly popular sophomore S/T album of ten years ago. Now comprised of core members Jeremy Galindo and Christopher King with the addition of drummer Robi Gonzalez, New Others Part One captures the band in a familiar, but evolved ethos wherein the memorable melodic component present in their early work once again soars atop new sonic territories for the band and listener alike. Physical copies of the LP feature the artwork and photography of band member Christopher King. Inside, purchasers will find a highly unusual extra insert featuring a QR code that will certainly take the bold on a journey involving their browser, their phone, and their full capacity for the esoteric.

Furthering the focused songwriting and recording aspirations reached on New Seasons, The Sadies bring their signature blend of country, psychedelic, rock and surf into rifle-scope focus on Darker Circles, further underscoring their reputations as musicians' musicians. Always at the top of the list when discussing musical chops and live intensity, The Sadies are now more intent than ever on making their mark as songwriters. In one turn as heavy as a sledge, and on the other flitting across melodies with the ease of so many sparrows, The Sadies prove once again that denying them now is simply prolonging your conversion. So go on, pull up that screeching wooden chair that bows with your weight. Slide it up next to the turntable and drop the needle, The Sadies are a sure thing...tomorrow isn't.

When Amon Duul II first hit the German music scene of the 1970s, they weren't even the first band to be named Amon Duul. The Munich-based Krautrock band had their origins in the West German commune scene, where the founding members thrived at an art commune bearing the same name. (An establishment for musicians and performers, encouraged to play and collaborate, regardless of experience or ability.) The members of the Amon Duul commune were eventually offered the opportunity to record, at which point the collective split, with the more talented and proficient members going on to form Amon Duul II. (The other band, simply called Amon Duul, would not reach major success.) Throughout their tenure as a band, Amon Duul II performed non-stop, bringing their distinct blend of spacious psychedelia to, according to guitarist John Weinzierl: "...every hall with a power socket and an audience." Amon Duul II released over 15 studio albums during their career, including such celebrated landmarks of Krautrock as 1969's Phallus Dei, and 1971's Tanz Der Lemminge. Their 1975 studio release Made In Germany is a similar pinnacle of the genre, though frequently overlooked among their discography. By this time in their career, Amon Duul II had begun to drift away from the psychedelia that inspired their early records, and towards more slickly-produced progressive art rock, with a polished Abba-like sheen. Fans were unsure how to react to Amon Duul II's new sounds, but critics embraced it whole-heartedly, singling out Made In Germany as one of their best, from the expansive space rock of "La Krautoma", to the Cabaret-like pomp of "Wilhelm, Wilhelm", to the foot-stomping Zeppelin-aping "The Emigrant Song."

The album features some of their most exploratory material, dabbling in sounds foreign to the band such as funky brass sections, samba backbeats, and inflections of chamber pop string sections. An anomalous entry into the discography of an already anomalous band, and not one to be skipped.

Part one of a three volume compilation project by Tunisian collective Arabstazy, establishing a picture of the contemporary electronic music scene in the Arab World. This musical journey stands for the diversity of this scene, and deconstructs the occidental perceptions that sees the Arab World as a culturally united and homogeneous entity. It is a manifesto for the burgeoning wave of post-revolution futurism. Arabstazy is a multidisciplinary artistic platform with bases in Tunis, Paris and Berlin. It is dedicated to the research of the connection between heritage, identity, culture and digital arts. Founded as a collective by Tunisian electronic musician Mettani, it has since then relentlessly questioned the meaning and relevance of the supposed Arabic unity. Following the Arab Spring events that brought a major change to the Maghrebi cultural and artistic ecosystem, the collective explores how the Arab World is perceived and perceives itself, and lays the foundations of what could be part of a new wave of North African and Middle Eastern futurism. Arabstazy’s vision is to create an autonomous and singular form of mindset, that is aware of its representations. An identity quest immersing its roots into the future, while highlighting and transmuting its traditions. This mindset is to evolve into a new artistic language, that would have been released from the colonialist and orientalist perspectives. A process that will eventually focus on the interactions and connections rather than shape or style. With this objective in mind, the idea of a musical compilation emerged. It would be the assessment of how diverse, shattered and intricate the Arab World actually is. Paradoxically, it would be the cement of an independent Arabic underground electronic scene. A scene that doesn’t need common aesthetics nor similar codes to build a sense of belonging, because that belonging eventually relies on the similarities found in the constant struggle from which the creative process arise. In the frame of political, social and religious dictatorships, this is a creative process that is born under frustration. Following this artistic direction, the collective gathered tracks from various artists that connected in their own way to the concept of frustration constrained creation. With no imposed genre and the strong will to build a mosaic heterogeneous project, the compilation eventually featured tracks ranging from indie to IDM to club music to abstract noise. This is quite an unsettling tracklisting for those who were expecting the usual oriental electronic bland cliché. This process eventually echoed with the work of Parisian label InFiné. InFiné defines itself as a space of diversity, away from any kind of genre or ethnic compartmentalization. Since a dozen years, it has developed these values through several projects, including the compilation series « Explorer ». Through this compilation, they discovered one of their latest revelations, Deena Abdelwahed. She herself led to the encounter with the Arabstazy collective, and the label found much sense in supporting the Under Frustration project, in professional, political and spiritual ways.
The first volume pays special attention to Tunisia and Egypt, with a touch of Paris & Berlin. Alexandrian band The Triangle, releasing their very first track, dramatically opens the first side with a song evoking war refugees that have no choice but to abandon their homes and risk their lives on makeshift boats. Ismael, member of the Kairo is Koming collective, comes right after with a cranky, cracked batch of grimly forward club music. He is immediately followed by Shinigami San, founder of the Tunisian collective World Full of Bass, with a metaphorical experimentation depicting how a fragile melody can arise despite of being crushed by a brutal rhythm. Then comes Mettani, founder of the Arabstazy collective, showcasing esoteric and syncretic aesthetics, blending sacred church choirs and Muslim awakening call into industrial grooves. Paris-based artist Terra Aziz closes this first side with an very introspective and esoteric track evoking iranian leper kids. Second side starts with Muudra, a moniker for an artist who keeps himself anonymous and connects to kurdish culture. His track’s hypnotic, mantra-like beats, combined with cinematic soundscapes, reflects on the Hemshin tribes vibes. Then comes Deena Abdelwahed, with a very early work she composed while she was touring with the Arabstazy collective. Tropikal Camel, Berlin-based composer and MC born and raised in Jerusalem, then seizes the scene with an apocalyptic track picturing a hopeless prophet whose heart is made of smoke. Relief comes with Beirut-based Egyptian artist Aya Metwalli, who offers a touching song about love and mourning. This first volume ends with a poetic and abstract soundwork by Tunisian artist Mash, releasing her very first piece, closing the record like it opened. The spectrum of the questions that this peculiar theme arise is broad: personal, political, sexual, religious, familial, societal... From ways to free ourselves from this frustration, to ways to accept it as it is. We have to deal with a lot of mutual misunderstandings, binary shortcuts and manichaean attitudes that have long proven unsuccessful to overcome these situations.
Amongst all who experience frustration, some will cope through artistic expression. We decided to relate to this frustration as a great source of inspiration. Arabstazy chose to give all the benefits of this project to the Lebanese NGO Basmeh & Zeitooneh, and most specifically to their yearly art event - "Seen" - which highlights unseen artists and breaks stereotypes about refugees.

The London-based duo Tomaga are back with a new record. “The Shape of the Dance” is their second full length album, a follow-up to "Futura Grotesk", which was released in 2014 with Hands in the Dark. The instrumental, experimental tracks compiled on this new opus evoke something which feels closer to the band's impressive live performances than their previous recordings. The spiralling polyrhythmic percussion, performed with a range of materials, the vibraphone, the frenetic bass, the organ and oscillators, are all complicit in a strange dervish, striking a minimalist, but very accessible tone. The album was mainly improvised and boasts a very fresh and diverse sound. It features both live and studio recordings as well as top notch contributors, including Rick Tomlinson and the band Bultwurst. It is undoubtedly one of the most original and solid records of the genre that you will hear this year!

Ultraexklusiv. King Dubby & the Barnervaters! "Shake it, don't break it!" Das jetzt auf Vinyl haben zu können, ist ein großes Geschenk. Die zweite Kompilation, auf der sich die komplette Bandbreite des Künstlernetzwerkes barner 16 vorstellt! Eine großartige Platte, absoluter Tipp!

Though the classic hard rock band Van Halen had
reached massive heights of commercial success with
their 6th album 1984, a creative rift had formed
between the band and their frontman David Lee Roth,
who resented the more pop-friendly direction the band
was gravitating towards, preferring the band stick to
the hard rock they came up with. This tension would
lead to Roth breaking away from the band to engage
on a solo career, achieving commercial and
critical success in 1986 with his solo debut
Eat 'Em And Smile.
Fans of Roth's rock purism, who had followed him into
his solo career on the promises of keeping his sound
hard would be taken aback with his follow up, 1988's
Skyscraper. While Roth had criticized Van Halen for
an over-reliance on synthesizers, Roth himself would
add synth-player Brett Tuggle to his backing band
for Skyscraper, which lead to a distinctly more
psychedelic, and dreamy atmosphere.
In spite of going back on his promise of hard rock,
Skyscraper turned out to be another success for Roth,
selling over 2 million copies in the US, and rendering
the Billboard Top 40 hit "Just Like Paradise". It would
also be the linchpin for the solo career of guitar
virtuoso Steve Vai, who at the time was a member
of Roth's solo backing band. Though a commercial hit,
it would also mark the beginning of the end for Roth's
solo career; the hard rock vocalist wouldn't achieve
any major sales success again until re-joining Van
Halen in 2007.

Alex Mcmanus, veteran guitarist for Lambchop and Vic Chesnutt released a series of scarce singer-songwriter indie rock albums under the name The Bruces in the ‘90s and early 2000s before taking an extended hiatus from music to migrate to Canada and raise a family. Known primarily for his song, “I Woke Up With This Song In My Head This Morning,” which was covered by Bright Eyes on their Lua EP in 2004, his albums on Sing, Eunuchs! and Misra are gorgeous testaments to wholly personal pop songwriting which undoubtedly influenced the younger Conor Oberst as well as other songwriters lucky enough to stumble upon his difficult to find albums. McManus’ first new album in fourteen years is an infectious collection of cover songs by close friend and fellow underground songwriter, Simon Joyner, lovingly reinterpreted and rearranged to sound like would-be hits in another universe. Limited edition vinyl-only pressing of 300 in screen-printed jackets.

Don Kirshner's Rock Concert appeared on TV from 1972 to 1981 and was a massively important show for many a career. The Eagles appeared on the show in 1974, with a recording from the Beacon Theatre in New York, just a couple months after the release of their 3rd album On The Border, which was their most successful album to date, featuring the classic singles “Already Gone”, and “James Dean”. With help from Jackson Browne and Linda Ronstadt and rounded out by tracks from all 3 albums, including the brilliant cover of Tom Waits’ “Ol’ 55”, along with now legendary songs like “Peaceful Easy Feeling”, and “Desperado”, this is early Eagles at their live best!
