These recordings feature notable, & notably subtle, contributions from Jade Hendrix (harmony vox), Thomas Heyman (pedal steel), Hirsch's old bandmate The Court And Spark; & HGM stalwarts Phil Cook (organ & harmonica) & Matt Douglas (saxophones), among others. But as a primarily single-artist vision & statement, it does speak to the way that back roads, detours away from or around one's other, more high-profile creative pursuits, can lead lead to unexpected destinations arguably more compelling than anything the highways could provide.

Having formed only about two years ago, Lion's Law has quickly

Templars. Formed by members of the popular French band Maraboots, Lion's

Charbel Haber is a Lebanese musician, performer & composer from Beirut. Co-founder and member of longstanding Lebanese post-rock group, scrambled eggs Haber’s work encompasses a wide range of disciplines and styles such as film, video art and theatre, both as a solo artist and as a member of Scrambled Eggs, Malayeen and Johnny Kafta anti vegetarian orchestra.

Often overlooked for over half a century while misfiled amongst exploit bellydance
records and holidaymaker souvenirs this one-off twelve track album is the only
existing full-length record by the best-kept mutant musical secret of the Armenian
American diaspora, oud pop maestro Charles ‘Chick’ Ganimian.
One of the earliest examples of any kind of recorded fusion between rhythm heavy
pop music and traditional Turkish music, Ganimian’s developments in New York
City - with his sadly unrecorded turk jerk combo The Nor-Ikes (New Dawn) combo
- ran almost simultaneously alongside the rising Anadolou Pop scene in Turkey,
resulting in his short lived powerhouse of Kif proto-rock under the changing names
of Ganim’s Asia Minors, Ganimian & His Orientals and Ganimian & His Oriental
Music Orchestra. Combining a line-up of mostly unknown musicians from his local
community (where he was worked as a butcher), Ganimian, in a short unison with
ATCO records, was fortunate enough to accommodate jazz guitarist Al Schactman
as part of his studio personnel (launching the career of this Nina Simone regular)
as well as French born Armenian folk singer Onnik Dinkjian and reid player Steve
Bogoshian (both from the band The House Of The Seven Uncles) as well as the
esteemed Turkish raised Kanun player Ahmet Yatman. As one of the very few early
American recorded authentic Middle Eastern fusion record Come With Me To The
Casbah has piqued a refined interest in a new generation of progressive world
music collector resulting in a distinct drought in original Ganimian pressings on
the collectors’ market earning Chick’s name a rising placeholder on the want lists
of DJs, vinyl hounds and ethno psychedelia collectors.
This LP includes all of Ganimians recordings including the rare singles for Atco
and East West which sit awkwardly next to bizarre and unique takes on popular
American standards enhancing the exciting freak factor of this record which simply
could not be made by today’s stifling self-aware anti-standards. Aside from rare
(poorly recorded) private family tapes this album is the only chance to hear the
music of this lost enigma of early world music, Eastern fusion and a missing kink
in the fabric of New York pop music history captured before his short stint as an
exotic Herbie Mann sideman which proceeded his migration into obscurity and
his well-imparted tragic struggle with alcohol dependency depriving pop culture
of a forward thinking pioneer who paved the way for the more credible exponents
of the cross-continental Indo fusion enigma such as

A heaping helping of proto-metal chops meets paranoid sci-fi fantastical ravings, replete with some tasty synthesizer werk that breaks it up just so. Close-mic’d to perfection by Total Control’s own Mikey Young, these epics swing with demonic swagger and crackle with the static of a menacing future, twisting and churning through loose-limbed riffery, all punctuated by a wail that sounds as if it’s coming from every hidden camera outside the Ministry of Love.

A proggy but in-the-pocket head-trip hard rock record for the table, and hopefully these Aussies will be bringing their dystopian groove your way soon.

Amongst the best works of the era were the two splendid LPs recorded by Welsh band Eyes Of Blue.

The Eyes Of Blue where formed in 1966 and soon won the Melody Maker Beat Contest, a fact that secured them a recording deal with Deram records. The label issued their first 45s, they were good but -due to company pressure- more Blue Eyed Soul or even bubblegum oriented. By the time they released their first LP, on Mercury, their real sound had surfaced, showing influences by some of the coolest bands from the US West Coast like The Doors or Love, and also counted on the help of Graham Bond.

Originally released in 1969, In Fields Of Ardath was the follow up to their superb debut LP, expanding the path of heavy Hammond based psychedelic progressive rock at its best with their aim of experimentation. This album contains also material they recorded for the movie Toy Grabbers in collaboration with Quincy Jones.

Members of Eyes Of Blue would later join Man, Pete Brown & Piblokto! and Gentle Giant.

Conceived as a studio project and conceptually inspired by the world of sci-fi novelist Aldous Huxley, Brave New World was created by Reinhart Firchow (recorders, flutes, ocarina, Stylophone, percussion, vocals), John O'Brien-Docker (guitars, organ, percussion, vocals, wind chimes) and Herb Geller (flutes, cor anglais, saxophones, organ). They where aided by Dicky Tarrach (drums, percussion), Lucas Lindholm (bass, bass fiddle, organ, piano) and Esther Daniels (voice). Irishman John O'Brien-Docker had previously played on Die City Preachers and Marcel, and also recorded as Inga & John - Inga was, of course, Inga Rumpf of Frumpy fame. He also played with Dagmar Krause and Anthony Moore, who would later be known as Slap Happy. Reinhart Firchow had also been around for a while and would later form Kaarst. Herb Geller was an accomplished jazz musician who had been playing and recording in several jazz outfits since 1954. Their album, originally released on Vertigo in 1972, featured an eclectic mixture of styles, blending medieval music, folk, electronics, jazz and rock in pure krautrock eclectic lore in the line of Annexus Quam, Achim Reichel or Tomorrow's Gift.

Born in 1940 in Berlin, Ralf Nowy's musical interest was first exposed to an audience during his school years, when he formed his first rock'n'roll band in the late fifties. After graduation from the Konservatorium, he joined the German jazz scene and also worked for the Saaerland radio station. His recording career began recording exploitation albums designed for dance parties, following the path opened in Germany by artists like Paul Nero (a.k.a. Klaus Doldinger). But with the rise of the krautrock scene he became interested in new, more experimental sounds and joined forces with Paul Vincent (who had played in Klaus Doldinger's Motherhood, from which he would go on to form Hallellujah) and Keith Forsey (also from Hallellujah) - the three, under the name The Ralf Nowy Group, became on of the hottest acts of the Munich scene.

Lucifer's Deram was issued on Global in 1973 and offered an interesting mixture of instrumental sounds which moved freely from psychedelic pop to jazz, progressive rock, and ethnic touches... even some funky guitar is present! In addition to Ralf Nowy (flutes, alto saxophone, oboe), Paul Vincent (guitars) and Keith Forsey (drums) the recording sessions counted on the faboulous work of Al Gromer (Amon Düül, Popol Vuh, etc.) and Liz van Nienhoff on sitar, Gary Unwin and Lothar Meid on bass, Sylvester Levay and Don Anderson on pianos, Andy Marx on guitar, Bernie Prock on percussion and Sankha Chatterjee on tablas.

Ralf Nowy has also contributed on works by Drosselbart, Improved Sound Limited, Tender Aggression, a.o.

Somewhere in a warehouse in the shadow of the once Industrial giant Chicago Illinois, mellow drums shape the pattern of a psychedelic post whatever dream. A distorted guitar lick sites right in line with a dark beautiful crooning. It's almost winter and the streets are about to be frozen for months. A certain kind of longing reaches out from places like these, and that band, Earring, can do nothing but call this place home. World Gone Wrong (1993) is the 29th Bob Dylan studio album. It was Dylan's second consecutive collection of only traditional folk songs, performed acoustically with guitar and harmonica. The songs tend to deal with darker and more tragic themes than the previous outing, Good As I Been To You [MOVLP427].

This is a convincing genre collision.

This is the eponymous debut studio album by the American Rock band the Modern Lovers, originally released in 1976. Six tracks ("Roadrunner", "Astral Plane", "Old World", "Pablo Picasso", "She Cracked" and "Someone I Care About") were produced by John Cale.

Fumble is the fifth and final studio album. Orginally released in July 1993 through Dischord. It is notable for showcasing the band's expansion in style, towards a more post-hardcore sound with a Bad Brains influence, and also for having some of the first compositions of Dave Grohl.

Philadelphia's Destroying Angel incorporate synths, piano, violin, samples, bass/guitar & percussion into their folk-y mix, bringing together their love of 60s acid folk/rock & post punk/industrial music to create something both dark, but beautiful & uplifting. Gwydion Pendderwen is one of the more chatoyant figures of the folk music underground and it is a shame actually that we have to label his works underground for what he laid down on both of his albums “Songs For The Old Religion” (1975) and “The Faerie Shaman” (1982). It was far above the average standard folk of his time, especially on this, his second album from 1982. The confessing neo paganist and environmentalist tried a different path seven years after his rather haunting debut album by mixing bluegrass, country, gospel and dixie into the classic folky singer / songwriter tunes of enchanting beauty. Most of the time the atmosphere on this album is rather friendly and lightweight in the sense of bright melodies and a cheerful mood on most tunes. Just take a walk in spirit through the garden of sound created by the delicate arrangements and rich, mostly acoustic instrumentation. Will you ever wish to return to what people consider as reality? I would doubt that. GWYDION for certain has the one and another moment of melancholy and musing but this is just a little shade of evening, the moment when the sky turns dark blue and the two worlds come as close as they could. This album breathes a flamy joy of life and you would not think it was shortly after that Gwydion Pendderwen lost his life in a car accident. The music presented on “The Faerie Shaman” literally swallows you like a river and you may ride like a Valkyrie upon the raging waters or dive deep inside and be enchanted by the magic world beyond the surface. This should have been a classic and it is a real gem for fans of PLANXTY, HAMISH IMLACH, DULCIMER, PENTANGLE and STEELEYE SPAN.

Limited to 600 copies. The Third Sound's 2016 album 'Gospels Of Degeneration' showcases a shift in style for the group, having toned down the shimmery psychedelia in favour of something a little cleaner. That's not to say this is a barren sounding album at all. It's still hypnotically layered with country-kissed reverb, and retains those itching guitar riffs that will keep whispering through your mind for hours after listening.

Formed in London in 1977 by Mark Perry and Alex Fergusson, then editors of the punk fanzine Sniffin' Glue, Alternative TV was a post-punk group known for incorporating reggae rhythms and pushing the boundaries of the definition of punk towards the experimental and avant-garde. Their first album, The Image Has Cracked, came out originally in 1978 and is a wholly unique piece of British post-punk. Beloved by John Peel, and close confidantes of Throbbing Gristle, Alternative TV is one of the most original and beguiling groups of the era. This classic is reissued on 180 gram with 2 bonus tracks and a double-sided insert.
