This is the soundtrack album for 'The Stone Killer' by director Michael Winner starring Charles Bronson, which came in the middle of a 3-part crime thriller series (1972, 1973, 1974). It follows Charles Bronson as a detective getting to the bottom of the killings in the Sicilian Mafia, with a score by the British film composer Roy Budd ('Get Carter', 'Fear is the Key'). The soundtrack was initially released in Italy and Japan on LP and 7” single, respectively, but only limited copies were released, making these hard to find. The soundtrack itself has everything one could expect of a 70s cop action movie score - with elements such as funky variations on a theme - but Budd (on spooky synthesizer and treated electric piano) also colors his music with cinematic jazz/soul and strange lounge sounds. The score represents the essence of Budd’s sound and was one of the holy grails at the top of the wish list among not only soundtrack collectors but also DJs and hip-hop producers who had eagerly awaited a reissue. Disc 1 of this reissue is a faithful replica of the original Italian (Fonit - Cetra) edition, which is accompanied by a Disc 2 that contains outtakes and other unreleased tracks to form a more ‘complete’ 2LP expanded edition.

Only released in 1999 as it was thought it wasn’t a sellable soundtrack. Now for the first time Dynamite Cuts are making a 2x7” 45 collection of some of these gems. The Black Windmill is very much on the same vibe as Stone killers. When I first heard “No Co-Operation” I almost fell off my chair!! In particular, the drums and dark strings (by the National Philharmonic Orchestra) lift this into another zone. In addition, the deep bass groove (this time featuring Daryl Runswick on bass) and killer horns, featuring more of the finest players from Budd’s stable, take this piece into the stratosphere!

This outstanding UK film score by Mr Roy Budd has been a treasure amongst music collectors for as long as I’ve known. Now, for the first time, Dynamite Cuts is making a 2x7” 45 collection of the musical gems form the “Get Carter” Film using the original first pressing sleeve which was Japan only mega rare. His masterful chords and textures are a joy to listen to alongside killer bass and drum grooves that make for a cinematic musical heaven. Amongst my personal favourite Roy Budd compositions, “Getting nowhere in a hurry,” is an easy listening gem with killer harpsichord lead lines and “Hallucinations” (I love the deep groove in this song!) features his trade mark lush vocal production. Both cuts are sure to become favourites of yours too!

This almost unheard score holds some never before heard Budd gems. Dynamite Cuts release for the first time a 7” 45 with a selection of original cues and dialogue taken from the Film. How, James Coburn as Professor Robert Elliot creates a masterful plan to get four people, who know too much, to kill each other is a fine example of a classic British thriller with a superb twist at the finale. This 45 is a journey through the film that includes some never before heard tracks. A must have!

This score is pound-for-pound the funkiest with its heavy bass and drum groove throughout each movement of the score. Most of the pieces from this soundtrack also include killer samples and breaks, my favourites being “The Diamond Fortress” with Ronnie Scott on solo sax and Chris Karan on Drums and “Thief On The Prowl” featuring Tubby Hayes and Daryl Runswick on Bass. This release also has an exclusive edit. The Main Theme (vocal by The Three Degrees) and instrumental scores have been combined to deliver an unforgettable version of this great title theme. Now for the first time, Dynamite Cuts brings you yet another exclusive 2x7” 45 collection featuring some of Roy Budd’s finest work.
