Limited edition for Record Store Day 2017!

London/LA producer Kenny Dickenson crafted his stunning remix of Ned Doheny’s “Labor Of Love” to mark the Be With Ned tour in March 2015. The gentle disco re-rub was leaked by influential blogs and has been wreaking elegant havoc on both sides of the Atlantic ever since, setting a new gold standard for AOR remixes. Beloved of everyone who’s heard it, we’ve been inundated with requests for a physical version.

As RedKen, Dickenson came to prominence with his cult edit of Steve Perry’s “She’s Mine” – an instant hit on the AOR Disco scene – whilst his double A Side Fleetwood Mac 12" with Psychemagik was number 1 across Juno, Piccadilly and countless others, gaining him further notoriety. Here, taking Ned’s stellar version and creating new melodies by twisting original sax solos inside out, Kenny’s remix is elevated further with the introduction of his sophisticated keyboard work and additional white-hot production.

Completed the day of Ned’s penultimate show, Kenny bounded up to Pete Fowler – on DJ duties – and handed him the demo. Ever the showman, Pete played it seconds after Ned finished. Momentarily mortified at the chutzpah involved, we realised we were listening to something sensational. The key element would be Ned’s opinion. He aired it the next day, breaking a drained silence as we boarded a flight to Berlin: “There was a remix of my song played last night.” Heart in mouth, we were in for a deserved dressing down. “Pretty good; I liked it.” And with that, we were determined to commit this wonderful reimagining to vinyl.

After two years of major label wrangling and artist nudging, Be With Records are delighted to finally present this as an officially authorised, one-sided 12". Enhancing the package, the record comes appropriately adorned with striking new artwork from Pete Fowler himself and liner notes from all parties involved. Limited to just 500 copies, these are sure to fly.

The heavy third offering from Nick Saloman bursts with 60s-psych and includes epic track "Tangerine Infringement Beak" clocking in at nearly 20 minutes, ‘Into The Cryptic Mist’ and ‘Lights Are Changing’ a song that went on to be covered by Mary Lou Lord.
A labor of love and fiercely independent, his prolific output has seen as many releases in as many years and an uncompromising vision under his own label Woronzow. Hailed as “a Hendrix devotee every bit as tough and contemporary as the serrated guitar chorales of Sonic Youth and Pixies” by Rolling Stone’s David Fricke, his immense psych-stoner-rock has seen him become a cult figure in his own right. The Bevis Frond’s legion of loyal fans includes Teenage Fanclub, Dinosaur Jr and Mary Lou Lord, who have all covered his music.

Finally, this album gets reissued on 12-inch white vinyl for Record Store Day 2017 alongside ‘Bevis Through The Looking Glass’ and ‘The Auntie Winnie Album’ as part of the band's 30th anniversary.

Limited edition for Record Store Day 2017!

Edie Sedgwick was the true “It Girl” of the Pop Art age; a woman who famously said she wanted "to turn the world on just for a moment". Part of Andy Warhol's Factory for a year in the mid-'60s, she is widely believed to have inspired The Velvet Underground's “Femme Fatale” as well as Bob Dylan's “Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat” and “Just Like A Woman”.

1973's “Ciao! Manhattan”, the model and actor's final film, gave some indication of why she inspired such devotion. Written and directed by Factory affiliates John Palmer and David Weisman, the movie tells a quasi-fictionalised account – a chronicle à clef in Weisman's words – of Sedgewick's journey from New York to Santa Barbara.
In the film, Sedgwick is Susan Superstar, a New Yorker who winds up living in a drained Santa Barbara swimming pool in a narcotic daze, life and art just a hair away from each other. Shot over a five year period, Sedgwick died of a barbiturate overdose at the age of 28 before filming wrapped in 1971.

For a movie starring some of rock's great muses, the soundtrack fittingly features cult figures of the era: Richie Havens (“Shouldn't All The World Be Dancing”, “To Give All Your Love Away”, “I Can’t Make It Anymore”), John Phillips (“Malibu People”) and Byrds/Flying Burrito Brothers member Skip Battin, who performs Kim Fowley's “Citizen Kane”. Other artists are less well-known, including actor Kim Milford, who sings the stirring “Justice”, and Factory man Gino Piserchio, an artist and dear friend of Weisman, whose synthesizer compositions anchor the score.

Never before released in any format, this long-overdue pressing includes all of the above plus selected dialogue from the film, each snippet like a beat poem in its own way. The Village Voice once called Ciao! “The Citizen Kane of the drug generation"; deeply evocative of the era, the mood of the soundtrack captures the psychedelic spirit of the film, as well as the darkness and tragedy that characterized Edie's life.
This official Record Store Day 2017 release is pressed on limited “Angel Shock” color wax. Never before released in any format. All audio restored and remastered from original film transfers. The is LP housed in a deluxe gatefold Stoughton tip-on jacket and includes a 20-page book with rare archive photos and liner notes Q&A with writer/director David Weisman.

14 tracks by Jimi Macon, Black Maffia, Blacklites and more, many reissued for the first time. Includes a 16-page booklet with extensive notes on an overlooked and important portion of Rock n’ Roll’s history & a download card to WAV files of the full album.

Nearly everyone in the world can rattle off the great African-American musical forms. Jazz, Blues, R&B, Soul, Hip-Hop, House or Gospel. One influential genre is always left off of the
list: a folk music known as rock n’ roll. Rock n’ Roll was a term originally coined to market the white-friendly version of a genre that already existed; prior to 1965, the line between
rock n’ roll and R&B was thin: Ike Turner recorded and released “Rocket ‘88’ ” in 1951 and, while its Chess Records release reached number one on the Billboard R&B chart, it is
regarded by many as the first Rock n’ Roll record.

The Great Divide between R&B and Rock n’ Roll came after the Beatles and the British Invasion decimated the Top 40 chart in 1964.

So somewhere in the mid to late-1960s, Rock n’ Roll became perceived as something for
the Caucasian kids. When Jimi Hendrix and Arthur Lee made the scene, they were said to be black musicians entering into a white world.

This anthology presents earnest questions as to why we know so little about these bands and the movement of which they were a part.
