Narrow Head’s highly anticipated new LP 12th House Rock arrives August 28th on Run For Cover Records. The Houston-based band’s latest entry is the distillation of the greatest moments in 90’s alternative and hard rock with a fresh set of ears, thirteen tracks of their signature brand of bludgeoning lullabies bursting at the seams with creative ideas, new directions and yes, massive, monolithic riffs. In between the sparkle and smash, open-hearted and emotionally naked songwriting showcases a core piece of the band’s identity– showcasing 12th House Rock as one of the best releases of 2020.

Delving into deep-seated themes of self loathing, desolation, self-medication, the loss of loved ones and hopeful redemption,12th House Rock is, as the title suggests, a rock-focused LP themed on transition– exploring the vast abyss of darkness just before the sun cracks upon the horizon. Using distorted guitars as their primary vehicle, Narrow Head’s wall of riffs add stark contrast to their best quality– deceptively sweet pop melodies that channel the lessons of My Bloody Valentine, Cocteau Twins, Helmet, Deftones and Guided by Voices all at once.

“On The Wheel” is the title of Pro Era member HansSOLOs first coherent project, which has been made in collaboration with the Michigan-based rapper Sincere.

The 19 year old Sincere was featured on the well-known and well-respected New York-based producer Statik Selektah’s album “What Goes Around” and has since released his own debut-mixtape titled “Zen EP”. Since then he has been under the radar trying to shine light on the Grand Rapids Hip Hop scene along with rappers Philo, Joose The Conquerer and the producer Mozaic.
A meet-up occurred after Sincere contacted HansSOLO in the end of 2015 and their first release “Carpe Diem” evolved into an idea of a EP.
The project creates a base-ground for HansSOLO and Sincere since they have mostly appeared on different featurings and productions for other artists.
Therefore, you cannot call “On The Wheel” conceptual but it definitely contains a continuous stability and diversity, musically, within the Hip-Hop genre.
The title "On The Wheel" comes from the idea that the EP is the springboard for future conceptual projects, and the cover illustrates this too with an abstract image of a road that continues into the air.
The EP is also, musically speaking, a "ode" to the classic 90's Hip-Hop. Several of the tracks feel nostalgic, but also contemporary.
A part of the idea is also to keep building bridges between American & Danish hip-hop culture. The meeting between Sincere and HansSOLO involves many danish artists like bassist Justo Gambula, the singer Minna Forouzandeh & pianist Jonas Cook.

Over the years Self Defense Family's revolving lineup and improvisational writing process has led to the band often recording new music while on tour, putting the focus on capturing a specific moment between the current collaborators. The Island singles have been snapshots of the band in studios all over the world, from Jamaica, to Iceland, to Scotland, and now Australia. The songs on Make Me A Pallet Fire On Your Floor / Local Clerics are marked by a raw, spacious recording, winding guitar lines mixed with swirling organ, and of course Kindlon's one-of-a-kind vocals and unflinching lyricism.

Portrayal of Guilt and Slow Fire Pistol are two of heavy music's most compelling up and coming bands, with the defining sounds of both groups rooted in their unique abilities to deftly mine the depths of hardcore's many subgenres, and draw influence while avoiding nostalgia. While relatively new, the two bands have already built impressive catalogs, and now they're teaming up for the release of a blistering new split EP from Run For Cover. Formed in 2017 and based in Austin, Texas, Portrayal of Guilt (guitarist/vocalist Matt King, drummer James Beveridge, and bassist Alex Stanfield) have quickly gained attention for their punishing sound that pulls from many corners of aggressive music. The band's critically acclaimed 2018 full-length, Let Pain Be Your Guide, puts an extreme spin on elements of screamo, hardcore, noise, and more, while showcasing King's bleak lyrisicm. Portrayal of Guilt's contribution to the split EP, "The End of Man Will Bring Peace to This Earth," provides a glimpse of what's to come as their crushing sonics continue to evolve. Atlanta, Georgia's Slow Fire Pistol began shortly before Portrayal of Guilt, with its members (guitarist/vocalist Hank Pratt, guitarist Ben Jordan, bassist Connor McFall, and drummer Blake Hall) also sharing roots in hardcore and an appreciation of first wave screamo. Those influences coalesced into songs that incorporate both visceral aggression and stunning moments of melody. The band honed their sound across a series of EPs, culminating with 2019's harrowing Love Riddled With Conditions, and now their split offering, "Heart of Discernment." After a pummeling minute of punk speed and cutting riffs the song unexpectedly shifts into a nearly five minute build up, with dynamic and tempos shifts blossoming to match Pratt's pained lament for empathy. The Portrayal of Guilt and Slow Fire Pistol split EP is more than just a collaboration between friends with mutual influences, it's a snapshot of the shared spirit between these two groups and their common instinct to push the boundaries of loud, heavy, aggressive music. It's an artful approach to primal sounds, and a promising look at what's to come from both bands.

There is a closeness at the heart of Turnover's aptly titlednew album, `Altogether.' Though it's the first collection the trio has written while living on opposite coasts, the record actually represents the group's most collaborative and connected work to date, showcasing the intuitive, near-telepathic relationship frontman Austin Getz has developed over the years with his bandmates. Turnover first emerged roughly a decade ago in Virginia Beach, VA, but the group's critical and commercial breakthrough didn't arrive until six years later, when they cracked the Top 5 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart with their acclaimed sophomore album, `Peripheral Vision.' The band _ which consists of Getz, his brother Casey on drums, and their childhood friend Danny Dempsey on bass_followed it up in 2017 with `Good Nature,' a streaming smash that racked up roughly 40 million plays on Spotify alone and which Vice proclaimed to be "their best album yet." `Altogether' demonstrates the band's eclectic mix of personalities from the very start, opening with a lo-fi, jazzy intro that quickly gives way to the driving drums and delay-drenched guitar of "Still In Motion." Like much of the album to come, the song is a meditation on change and perspective, on learning to quiet your mind and appreciate the moment before it's gone. The bittersweet "No Reply" reckons with guilt over failing to be present with a loved one, while the effervescent "Much After Feeling" recognizes the sacrifices we make to stay connected across geographical distance, and the breezy "Parties" grapples with the kind of self-consciousness that can leave us prisoners of our own design.

Enjoy The Great Outdoors is the second album by Spencer Radcliffe. While the now Chicago-based artist has almost exclusively worked alone on projects like Blithe Field and his 2015 solo debut Looking In, on this album he has recruited some friends to expand the world he crafts with his music. With the backing of “Everyone Else,” Radcliffe’s songwriting is at it’s finest on Enjoy The Great Outdoors. These ten tracks blend slowed down indie rock with folk and a slight alt-country twang that recalls the slow-brewed sound of The Silver Jews, The Microphones and early Wilco.
