Axiom has significant historical importance by being what is quite possibly the first European free jazz record, even if it was not released at the time. Recorded in Copenhagen in October 1963, it should have been Tom Prehn Quartet´s debut album for the Sonet label. But by the time the test pressings arrived, a couple of months later, the music already sounded old to them and Sonet subsequently pulled the plug. A few sleeves and labels had been printed but only two complete copies survived, making it one of the rarest jazz albums ever. Axiom is expressive, full frontal free jazz of the highest order, and to think it was created by Danish musicians, most of them barely into their twenties, in 1963, is frankly mind-boggling. On the other hand, Scandinavian audiences, especially in Denmark and Sweden, had already welcomed controversial musicians like Albert Ayler and Cecil Taylor with open arms.. Needless to say, we´re very proud to release this album for the first time on vinyl. The original sleeve has been painstakingly recreated by Kim Hiorthøy. Axiom was released on CD by Corbett vs Dempsey in 2015.

Genre:Rock / Indie
This young, semi-improvising power trio – Tom Hasslan (guitars), Axel Skalstad (drums) and Jørgen Mathisen (saxophone) – typify a new and invigorating movement currently sweeping across the Nordic region: hard boiled improvisation and strong instrumental personalities bolted onto rock beats and driving rhythms. Equally powerful on record and on stage, Krokofant pull no punches, sounding off like some unholy three-way marriage of early 70s jazz rock (Mahavishnu Orchestra, Terje Rypdal, Ray Russell), the sprawling progressive odysseys of King Crimson and Henry Cow, and the fierce heat of Peter Brötzmann's harsh free jazz ensembles. If last years debut was a fresh breath of youthful energy, this follow-up shows a trio very confident of their abilities. They ally a strong discipline with wide, exploratory arcs, Tom's agile guitar and Jørgen's snaking sax are always fighting to break out, just held in check by Axel's tough, rhythmic tumble. Only 22 years old, the young drummer is something of a sensation, combining pure energy with superior technical skills. This is a trio where you can hear the individuals pushing each other to new hights while keeping the solid group foundation intact. Originally a guitar and drums duo, Tom and Axel met at a guitar shop in Kongsberg, a town in southern Norway famous for its annual jazz festival, where they developed a strong bond playing free music together. In 2012 they hooked up with saxophonist Jørgen, who already had a reputation in musical circles after playing in groups like The Core and Zanussi Five. When the duo eventually decided to try to capture their unruly sound at the proudly analogue Engfelt & Forsgren Studio in Oslo, they invited Jørgen to join them, and the group was properly born during the sessions that led to their self-titled debut released on Rune Grammofon in 2014. This studio, with Christian Engfelt in charge of recording and mixing, has proved perfect for capturing the essence of a group like Krokofant, so it was only natural that they went back for the second album. Real musicians captured playing together in real time, you simply can´t beat that when it comes to this kind og music!

Raoul Björkenheim – guitar . Ingebrigt Håker Flaten – bass. Paal Nilssen-Love – drums. XXX is a 4LP collection including Scorch Trio, Luggumt, Brolt and Oval. The story goes that when "Luggumt", the second Scorch Trio album, was played loud at New York´s record mecca Downtown Music Gallery one Saturday afternoon, everyone in the store (including guitarist Andy Summers of The Police), jumped and screamed with delight asking "who the fuck is this?" The DMG themselves described Scorch Trio as the most amazing power trio they had heard since the Jimi Hendrix Experience or Cream, and the album was followed by enthusiastic reviews absolutely everywhere, with the Guardian naming them "the ultimate improvising power trio". Even Playboy got a word in. But it started two years earlier, with the release of their self-titled debut album, a free spirited collection of instrumentals burning with an untamed energy that is neither jazz nor rock. In Norway "Scorch Trio" was greeted with 6/6 reviews in the two biggest newspapers and The Wire said "the scope of their improvisational ideas is breathtaking", in spirit comparing the album to The Mahavishnu Orchestra´s "The Inner Mounting Flame". Four years after "Luggumt", "Brolt" was to become the final album with Paal Nilssen-Love behind the drums. Following in the tradition of the previous albums this is a masterful example of passionate improvisation and breathtaking interplay. New York Times called it "a deep-focus record that conveys discipline as well as daring", Downbeat mentiones Sonny Sharrock and Jimi Hendrix in their 4/5 review while Jazzwise suggest that this is what Hendrix´s late night jams might have sounded like if he´d been listening to Albert Ayler instead of Miles. The joker in this collection is "Oval", a radio session done for Yle, the Finnish broadcasting company, two years before the debut album was released. Why this recording has been left on a shelf (surely not ours!) for so long is anyone´s guess, because this is quite a remarkable recording, showing off a new group brimming with energy and new ideas. Paal Nilssen-Love was only 25 at the time, but he and Ingebrigt Håker Flaten already had a reputation as one of the most energetic and creative rhythm sections in Scandinavia. Here the Finnish guitar phenomenon Raoul Björkenheim had found the perfect partners for his new group."Oval" is previously unreleased in any form, "Scorch Trio" has only been available on CD until now, while both "Luggumt" and "Brolt" have long been out of print on vinyl. US drummer Frank Rosaly replaced Nilssen-Love for the vinyl only, live double album "Made In Norway", with sax player Mars Williams guesting. "Melaza", a new album with Rosaly as a permanent member, was recorded by Robert Mussi in Bill Laswell´s studio and released in 2010. Raoul Björkenheim was born in Los Angeles to Finnish parents and now lives in Helsinki after a long period in New York. He appeared on three records with Edward Vesala, all on ECM, before starting his own group Krakatau, releasing two albums on ECM. Since then he has been involved in a number of international and national projects. Ingebrigt Håker Flaten and Paal Nilssen-Love have played with just about "everyone" and is one of the most distinguished rhythm sections in the business. Joint projects include Atomic and The Thing.

When originally released in 2009, this went straight into the Norwegian Top 20, quite an achievement for a vinyl only release. After being repressed a couple of times it's now made available after being out of stock for 5 years. As with the original this is presented with the die-cut sleeve, inside print, printed inner sleeve and a 60x60 poster with colour print on both sides. The record itself is on superior clear vinyl. The music comes in the form of seven mostly high energy rockers recorded by the legendary Steve Albini in his Chicago studio bearing the classic hallmarks of great riffs, that driving tractor bass and some truly inspired guitar work. All in all, simply a great package.

Anneli Drecker's ethereal voice first became known through the music of her band, Bel Canto back in the 80s. At age 17, Anneli left her Arctic hometown of Tromsø with band members Geir Jenssen (aka Biosphere) and Nils Johansen, for the pulsating indie scene in Bruxelles. Signed to the legendary Belgian label Crammed discs along with Zap Mama and Tuxedomoon, Bel Canto captured the Zeitgeist of European electronic music in the late eighties. Their two first albums, White Out Conditions and Birds Of Passage were released internationally in most territories. They have won the Norwegian Grammy award “Spellemannprisen” three times, and are regarded as pioneers in the Norwegian electronic pop music scene. With her characteristic experimental singing style, often compared to other wonderful singers such as Lisa Gerrard and Liz Frasier, Anneli has had the possibility to collaborate with many great artists. She participated in projects with Hector Zazou, Jah Wobble, Gavin Friday, DJ Krush, Tim Simenon, Simon Raymonde of Cocteau Twins, and Guy Sigsworth. Anneli has also cooperated with ECM artist Ketil Bjørnstad and recorded three albums based on poems by John Donne and Hart Crane. Few can claim that they have been singing duets with Morten Harket, but Anneli joined a-ha on two world tours as their guest singer. She also toured the world for more than 10 years singing with Røyksopp and co-writing a number of songs with them.In 2012, Anneli left Röyksopp to return to her own music, and "Rocks & Straws", is a homecoming album, an ode to her native town and region. The songs are based on lyrics by the North Norwegian cult poet Arvid Hanssen and translated to English by artist and writer Roy-Frode Løvland. Hanssen captures the interaction of Northern Norwegians with their merciless but beautiful surroundings, and the sometimes deadpan observations that follow."Rocks & Straws" is very much an acoustic record. In a world of ever simpler electronic recordings she has moved in another direction, and made a record based on recording techniques from the 70s. The music is played live, with some of Norway's finest musicians: Guitarist Eivind Aarset, drummer Rune Arnesen, bassist Ole Vegard Skauge, and The Arctic Philharmonic, Tromsø's acclaimed orchestra. Apart from singing Anneli plays the piano and organ, and has produced the recording with the musicians. As a Ph. D. candidate at the Arctic University of Tromsø, she is doing a research project on the voice techniques of indigenous people, and this is apparent especially in the song Ocean's Organ, with a Maori group singing kapa haka songs that Anneli recorded while in Auckland, New Zealand. The title refers to the voices of sailors that have drowned in the ocean, a global reference and a subject that the Maori singers could easily relate to.

On their fourth album, counting the limited vinyl only "Live At The BBC", Elephant9 join forces with Reine Fiske, the quite excellent Swedish guitarist from Dungen, The Amazing and Träd, Gräs och Stenar, for yet another heavy slice of mindblowing modern rock'n'jazz psychedelia.Reine Fiske makes his entrance on the title track, the long intro section almost sounding like it could have come off an early Terje Rypdal album. No coincident considering Fiske is a big Rypdal fan and Storlokken being Rypdal's keyboard player for well over a decade. His guest spot ends with the final thirteen minute tour de force and its heavy funk intro reminiscent of another guitar great and his Band of Gypsys. "Atlantis" is all originals, four from Storlokken and three from Eilertsen, recorded at Stockholm's legendary Atlantis studio under the masterful supervision of Janne Hansson and the band's regular engineer Christian Engfelt.Ståle Storlokken is widely considered to be the most inventive keyboard player from the fertile Norwegian jazz scene, his playing with bands like Supersilent, Humcrush, Motorpsycho, Terje Rypdal and countless others being firm testament to this.Nikolai Eilertsen was first known to the Norwegian public through his playing with popular rock group Big Bang and later chart topping pop group The National Bank.
