Lucrecia Dalt's Anticlines is a volume of poetic theory and sound contemplating the bodies of self and earth's surface. On Anticlines, Dalt conjures a sonic space of speculative synthesis and spoken word where South American rhythms rattle contemporary composition recalling Laurie Anderson, Robert Ashley, and Annea Lockwood. Tomorrow Was the Golden Age is an album length composition by minimalist ensemble Bing & Ruth. Written and conducted by pianist David Moore, Tomorrow Was the Golden Age is a halcyonic journey to a neverending place, where music waxes, wanes and drifts imperceptibly from silence to grand, glowing sound.
Colin Self - Siblings
Colin Self
LP | 2018 | US | Original (Rvng Int'l)
20,99 €*
Release:2018 / US – Original
Genre:Rock / Indie
Colin Self's Siblings is a proposal for interdependence, critical joy, and an expansive sense of being. As the lyrics beam, "I used to live as an anomaly... no explanation
biologically," so siblings share hidden language, lore, and identity. On Siblings, ecstatic voices and sound knot to form new ideals of kinship, emerging as horizontal relations
for multi-species flourishing. Colin Self challenges boundaries of perception with his art, music, and performances. Inspired by the work of Donna Haraway (Cyborg Manifesto, Staying with the Trouble: Making Kin in the Chthulucene), Siblings is the final segment of the six-part opera series entitled Elation. Informed by Self's
exploration of the ways of knowing, Siblings places a non-biological family at its center. The characters, bonded by curiosity and caring, generate ways of collectively coming
together on a damaged planet. Self uses Siblings to define this familial experience through sound and its soundmakers.

Release:2018 / US – Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
Composer Tashi Wada has performed for years with his father Yoshi Wada-artist,
composer, and early member of the Fluxus movement. However, they have rarely
appeared together in studio settings. Nue, the fourteenth entry in RVNG Intl.'s
intergenerational FRKWYS series, finally brings Tashi and Yoshi, along with an eclectic
group of close friends and extended family, together on tape. Nue draws on aspects
of Tashi's background for his widest vision to date-among them the minimalist bagpipe
music of Yoshi, who co-composed three of the tracks, the psychoacoustic and
perceptual explorations of his mentor, composer James Tenney, and reimagined
forms of ancient and devotional music. The album, however, is not a tribute to the
past or a recapitulation of familiar sounds. Instead, Nue is an intertwining of people
and ideas as a means of growing, of looking inward to move outward, and of looking
back to move forward. To achieve this growth, Tashi assembled a core group of fell
ow travelers, including Yoshi, composer Julia Holter, producer Cole MGN, and
percussionist Corey Fogel to give life to this multifaceted suite. As an experience,
Nue subtly navigates the interactions, intimacy and spaciousness of this group. The
album's title itself is a nod to Tashi's abiding interest in duality and the unknown: nue
is a mythological Japanese chimera with the face of a monkey, the legs of a tiger, and a
snake for a tail, a composite form, at once disturbing and otherworldly. But, as the
composer points out, nue is also French for naked-stripped of complexity, bare and
exposed, but also raw and essential. From the doubling of tones-and the world of
harmonic nuances such an action produces-to the rich interplay between individual
musicians, all baring their own personalities and experiences through shared
performance, Tashi's compositions allow space for these elements to join and grow.
The multipartite creature that is an ensemble melds in the simplicity an d purity of the
music itself.

Genre:Electronic / Dance
In broad string strokes, British cellist, composer, and producer Oliver Coates went from
studying at the Royal Academy of Music to becoming an artist in residency at London's
Southbank Centre to contributing to works from Radiohead. His in depth understanding
of classical cello is met with his study and exploration of electronic experimental sound.
Earlier on, Coates received the Royal Philharmonic Society Young Artist Award and has
been commissioned for string and electronic arrangements with visual artist Lawrence
Lek and composer Jonny Greenwood (on the scores for Paul Thomas Anderson's There
Will Be Blood and Phantom Thread) and collaborated with musician Mica Levi on their
2016 album Remain Calm. Coates' foray into electronic leanings on Upstepping, his other
2016 release, have led to the more expansive architecture of his 2018 album, Shelley's on
Zenn-La, his first for RVNG Intl. Shelley's on Zenn-La is a cerebral dance record that
does much with liv e cello performance alongside synthesis. Coates made music mostly
in Renoise, composing complex drum sequences in numbers and pencil drawn
waveforms. Some of the compositions get into FM synthesis - "I like hearing how one
tone is enriched by another tone modulating the first, resulting in gleaming sets of new
harmonics," says Coates, "I started thinking about putting live cello playing into that chain
of antagonism resulting in beauty."

Limited Edition for Record Store Day 2018

Oliver Coates' new arrangement of Pulitzer Prize-winning US composer John
Luther Adams' 2007 piece Canticles of the Sky appears for the first time in
recorded form as a limited vinyl edition from RVNG Intl. In March 2017,
Coates conducted 32 cellists in the UK premiere of the composition,
displaying its intimacies after deeply communing with the trajectories of
Adams' fictional suns and moons, the guiding characters and carriers of the
piece. This recorded interpretation, performed by Coates for multi-layered
solo cello, takes Canticles of the Sky to wondrous, dizzying new heights,
envisaging Adams' parallel dimension as an idealised construction. Marrying
extra-musical studio techniques and meticulous arrangements to Coates'
fascination with early electronic synthesis (especially the work of Laurie
Spiegel), the result offers an ultra-sensory take on classical string
instrumentation. "Making this recording was not only about creating the most
finely tuned interpretation of the piece in terms of frequencies and dynamics,
but was also a chance to do something I have always wanted to do; to make
a study in colour," Coates says. "Inspired by paintings by Hilma af Klint and
Agnes Martin, I had a chance to build an overall image using different playing
techniques and microphone combinations." Coates has released a handful of
solo records under his own name, including the acclaimed 2016 album
Upstepping, and in 2017 Remain Calm, a collaboration with Mica Levi. As an
artist and performer, he is frequently commissioned by world-renowned
orchestras, choreographers and visual artists to compose or curate integral
new works.

Sugai Ken - Ukabazumorezu
Sugai Ken
LP | 2017 | US | Original (Rvng Int'l)

Release:2017 / US – Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
With a melodic cluster dripping into a pool of dark water, UkabazUmorezU's
arrival ripples as an apex in Sugai Ken's continued construction of a deeply
resonant, enveloping sound world. Upon contact, UkabazUmorezU gently and
generously unfurls across aural alleys and streets mundanely but mystically detailed
with recontextualized Japanese rituals and tradition. A lived experience of
traditional Japanese music's conversation with environment, and vice versa, forms
the melodic make-up and metaphysical philosophy conditioning UkabazUmorezU.
Upon imagining a landscape, Sugai decomposes the image (and the images within
the image) and replaces it with a sound representation - an artifactual terrain,
tethered to but abstracted from the natural world. The eleven pieces which form
UkabazUmorezU dovetail meaningfully with the invented album title, roughly
translating to "slow and steady wins the race." Made up of recordings sourced and
appropriated from the local perf orming arts of Kanagawa, Japan (where Sugai
lives), his daily surroundings, and Sugai's tool kit of electronic synthesis,
UkabazUmorezU evokes tranquil patience while never settling into a single style or
still of sound for too long.

The Gradual Progression is a transformative collection of new music by Greg Fox. The seven pieces of The Gradual Progression activate spiritual states through physical means, Fox's rigorous inner rhythms the mandalic vessel for unbound expression and arrangement.

TGP signals both a reconciliation of disparate musical ventures and a new nirvanic stage in the artist's oeuvre.

TGP includes contributions from musicians Curtis Santiago, Michael Beharie, Maria Kim Grand, and Justin Frye, all offering various voices through instrument and from within.

Fox considers the power of Sensory Percussion, the software program developed by Tlacael Esparza that helped facilitate the vision for TGP, unprecedented - something akin to magic.

Tauba Auerbach lends her own brand of magic to the artwork for TGP.

Gatefold double LP includes a high-quality digital download and lyrics zine. Helado Negro's Private Energy gets re-introduced to the public via Rvng Int'l.

in expanded form, appearing on vinyl for the first time alongside a new CD edition. Supplemented with three brand new "versions," this iteration of Private Energy (Expanded) will continue the strong narrative of Helado Negro's spectral and transmissive 2016 opus.

Exploring the expressivity within intense states of being, Latinx identity, and pluralistic sensibilities, Helado Negro's Private Energy (Expanded) is an engrossing statement achieved through lyrically personal and political avant pop music.

Private Energy (Expanded) carves a deep groove through the electronic music landscape, challenging to best Brooklyn-based artist Roberto Carlos Lange's previous accomplishments under the Helado Negro moniker.

Half a decade and half a dozen albums later since Helado Negro's 2009 debut album Awe Owe, Lange has cultivated an untraditional approach to songcraft that places his voice on an adventurous musical impulse without shying from familiar pop appreciation.

The hymn of Private Energy (Expanded) initially sounded in 2014 while Lange absorbed accounts of the unjust death of Michael Brown and felt a sharpened sense of vulnerability and anger as a minority.

Lange's creative drive veered toward toward catharsis - he sought to make music that would protect as a form of protest.

The music of Private Energy (Expanded) was shaped to demarcate the artist's pride of being, preserving and persevering, and celebrating, as Lange puts it, "my brownness, my latinidad."

The story of electronic music pioneer Kerry Leimer continues with a focus on his auteurist studio project Savant.
Compiling the standalone album, 1983’s The Neo Realist (At Risk), with Savant’s debut 12? and a grip of compilation and unreleased tracks, Artificial Dance documents Leimer’s complete collaborative venture into the unpredictable realities of music, exploring the gulf between what is expected by its creators and what is eventually – and eternally – committed to tape.
Savant was designed by Leimer to tap into entropic truths, asserting an uncaged counterpart to the loop-based minimalism he produced in isolation (recently surveyed on RVNG Intl.’s A Period of Review (1975-1983)). Aligning himself with the Cage-ean principles of chance operations and musical contingency, Savant was a band sans jam. Allegorically, a blindfolded collaboration whose happenstance source music Leimer would sample, loop and sculpt at will.
Leimer was creatively autonomous to the point of being a persona absentia in Seattle’s 80s rock scene. Unconcerned by social status, Leimer enlisted musicians from experimental and post-punk groups in the area to come record as Savant at his home studio, Tactical. Among them were ambient composer Marc Barreca, John Foster (founder of Op Magazine – the experimental music publication), Jim and David Keller of the New Flamingos, and their bandmate Alex Petit. Others, like Roy Finch and Dennis Rea, came from a similar orbit.

Issued respectively by John Fahey's Takoma record label in 1980 & Leon's Arbitor private press in 1982, Nommos & Visiting were the twin brainchildren of studio wizard Craig Leon. His production was pivotal in realizing the debut recordings by Ramones, Blondie, Richard Hell & Suicide. While those albums broke ground in new worlds of sound, Leon's own debut album was arguably, if not literally, more alien.
