Here it is, one of THE lost albums from the golden era of Hip Hop: Science Of Sound's "Kaleidoscope Phonetics" from the Tribe Called Quest-sphere. With productions and cameos by A Tribe Called Quest and Phife Dawg, Godfather Don, Grandmaster Melle Mel and more. This is true-school rap at its finest and should not be missed by any fan of the classic 90's vibe.
Here's what Ali Shaheed Muhammad is saying about it:
"Science Of Sound, a group established during the 90's "golden era" of Hip Hop. These guys are my family. We were very excited when they signed their record deal and greatly disappointed their label mishandled them. This is the lost album that was recorded in the time I was working on "Beats, Rhymes & Life". There was a lot of back in forth between Tribe's sessions and S.O.S.'s sessions. You can hear the levels they were on and it's as fresh as 20+ years later as it was when it was recorded. Any proponent of golden era Hip Hop will appreciate this find of a lost album." - Ali Shaheed Muhammad, September 3rd, 2020
Available on limited 2LP vinyl, CD and cassette as well as digitally!

The Hard LA Core
Science Of Sound, also known as S.O.S, is a hip-hop crew formed in 1995 in the heart of Los Angeles, California. The group consists of MCs Cipher and Blaze, DJ Red, and producer Neutron. Their unique sound fuses elements of jazz, soul and electronic music with traditional hip-hop beats, making them pioneers in the underground hip-hop scene. S.O.S. released their first album, Kaleidoscope Phonetics, in 1998, quickly becoming known for its innovative sound and socially conscious lyrics. Since then, the group has released three more albums to critical acclaim and a loyal fan base.
Innovative and ready for collaborations
The success of Kaleidoscope Phonetics put the group on the map and helped establish them as one of the leading voices in the underground hip-hop scene. Their innovative sound and political activism helped push the boundaries of what was thought possible in the hip-hop genre. The group’s dedication to pushing the boundaries and their refusal to conform to industry standards made them a role model for other underground hip-hop artists. S.O.S has had a significant impact on the hip-hop industry through their innovative and experimental style of music. Their collaboration with the legendary A Tribe Called Quest solidified their position as one of the leading hip-hop groups of their time. The collaboration resulted in an electrifying blend of old school and modern hip-hop beats that was much appreciated by fans. Heard in the songs Start it Up, Rhymery and It Ain’t Safe. The fusion of the two groups’ unique styles resulted in a dynamic and innovative sound that continues to inspire and influence the hip-hop community today.
Pioneers of Conscious Hip Hop
Their first album, Kaleidoscope Phonetics, was a turning point in the underground hip-hop world. Their unique sound, which combined elements of jazz, soul and electronic music with traditional hip-hop beats, set the group apart from their peers. The album’s socially conscious lyrics and themes also gave S.O.S a reputation as a socially and politically conscious group. Their innovative sound has inspired countless musicians and producers to experiment with different genres and explore new sounds and styles within the hip-hop genre. The group’s commitment to using their music as a tool for social change has also inspired many artists to address conscious issues in their own work.
