October 2015 marks the 50th anniversary of the formation of the legendary '60s band The Youngbloods (that split up in 1973). With the Banana project Youngbloods-member Lowell Levinger (with the help of such legends as Ry Cooder, Dave Grisman, Peter Stampfel and his old sparring partner Jesse Colin Young) respectfully recalls and re-imagines some of the classics from that long gone era to produce a wonderfully intimate set that should have fans of the original band all a-glow. The release includes a 12-page book, plus label artwork by the inimitable John Hurford. Limited to 500 units.

The first new recordings in over 30 years from this legendary psychedelic Cornish band The Brainiacs can rock out like the Yardbirds and the Move but follow smoke trails laid down by figures as diverse as Lee Perry, Funkadelic and seminal West Coast acts like Spirit and Skip Spence. This beautiful 10" vinyl features 'Space Is The Place', dedicated to Sun Ra, plus Matelot Mick and Kabul, recreations of songs originally performed in the early '70s by the mysterious Half Human Band and until recently thought to be lost forever. Shagrar Records is delighted to release a 3-track 10" waxing of new recordings by the recently re-united Brainiac 5! Once described by the late rock historian John Platt as coming from Penzance via Mars, the Brainiac 5, (all four of them!) formed in the late '70s in Cornwall. The group inhaled the prevalent punk spirit of the times but were equally happy to ingest the plentiful psilocybins growing naturally on the Peninsular of Dreams and take their music to the outer reaches of the mind! Their 1978 debut EP 'The Mushy Doubt', was a wondrous melting pot of punk and acid rock that drew not only on the Pistols short sharp shock attack and the outlandish dub explorations of Lee Perry but also the dreamy guitar extemporisations of '60s bands like Country Joe & The Fish, and found instant favour with DJ John Peel who played the waxing regularly on his show.

Just a few days before he passed away Mick Farren rejected the release of the first batch of the single, which had been withdrawn from the markett immediatly. He wanted the recordings to be remastered with stronger cutting at pressing plant. So here it is the Re-mastered and Re-cut version. Released in an initial run of just 500 copies on transparent better red than dead vinyl, this is the first new Deviants single since 1968's You Better Hold On. Housed in a splendid sleeve designed by Savage Pencil. the A-side is a rockin', fuzz-toned fuelled rant. The flip meanwhile is a more upbeat song capturing the band in rare melodic mood! It's a miracle they survived. Mick Farren, Russell Hunter, Andy Colquhoun, and Duncan Sanderson are all members of those legendary anarchic bands The Deviants and The Pink Fairies. They have re-united (but hardly reformed) and - along with newcomer Jaki Windmill from Nik Turner's Space Ritual - will confront the 21st century not only with real-deal honed and hardened insurgent rock & roll but also a direct connection to the heart of genuine rebel counterculture of the 1960/70s. The four principals have put out more the twenty albums and CDs between them, their songs have been covered by Metallica, Motorhead, Hawkwind, Wayne Kramer, and Henry Rollins and many more and, by way of a power boost to this confederation of dangerous survivors they have cut a brand new, rabble-rousing (and also highly collectable) single.
