Sheik ‘N’ Beik are a NYC based cohort specialising in promotion, production and outletting left-of¬centre slices of electronic music. With previous releases from family members Derek Marin, Voiski and Peter Corvaia their 4th release comes courtesy of Danny Wolfers (a.k.a Legowelt) working alongside Rush Hour regular Xosar under their Xamiga alias. With this being Xamiga’s 3rd release, the pair draw for their trusted arsenal of analogue gear and offer up the ‘Bohemian Grove’ EP; a woozy brew of foggy textures, gently frazzled hats and Detroit-indebted grooves. The title track kicks things off with glassy pads sat atop a long-tailed thud and a sandy shuffle. A distant bass groove wades in ahead of a passage of intricate, band-passed percussion and a circling synth line before ‘Cumulus Versie’ sets sheets of ethereal vocals and synth strings gently ducking under a taught analogue pulse. ‘Midwest’ then sets hissing kicks and frayed hi¬hats alongside a rasping bass tone. Pitch-bent synth lines then bubble into focus before ‘Blizzard’ sets a dystopian tone from the off. A stout kick drum thunders under minor¬key chord shifts and a menacing sequence that works to round off another fine addition to the Sheik ‘N’ Beik series.

New York’s Sheik N Beik continue to assert themselves as a trusted outlet of chilly, understated Techno following up releases from Xamiga, Keita Sano and Hermans with a VA from family members IVVY, Mr Dello, OG AG and Ray Rose. First up is Mr Dello with ‘Pilgrims’ - a bold march that propels few finely crafted elements with deft usage of warped analogue FX. Intensity snowballs throughout as metallic synths thicken before OG AG aka Andrew Grant follows up with ‘410 Prospect’ - an intergalactic transmission rich with bending synth lines. One half of Dirk Largo, Ray Rose then casts his eyes down in following up with tight, shuffling drums and buoyant synth tones all suffused with a healthy dose of dub before IVVY - a fresh alias from Madison Levine. Originating from Seattle’s burgeoning hardware scene, he offers up ‘Shape Speed’ - a languid, capacious groove that drives thick drums through dense and dubby textures that round off a solid addition to a catalogue continuing to go from strength to strength.

New York collective Sheik 'N' Beik follow up a slew of lauded 12”s from Japan's Keita Sano, Legowelt & Xosar and their previous effort from Hermans with the richly emotive return of Voiski. With a back catalogue of considerable depth - one that's touched the likes of L.I.E.S and Delsin, Dekmantel's ‘UFO' series - Voiski's latest offering carries with it a trademark degree of bite whilst remaining balanced with the sort of moody melodicism that fans both old and new will relish. ‘5th Dolphin Transmission' kicks things off with a tense sequence tumbling through granular drums and a staggered, luminescent synth line. ‘Let Down Disco' then dims the lights slightly with soft, buoyant melodies and flickering high frequencies that round off a nicely varied release and another solid addition to the Sheik N Beik catalogue.

New York coterie Sheik ‘N’ Beik line up the next 12” in a string of successful releases including Legowelt & Xosar under their now defunct Xamiga guise, Jeffrey Scott and label owner Rechulski. Enlisted for their 7th record is the Japan based Mister Saturday Night and 1080P affiliate Keita Sano. With a strong affinity to analogue sound and old school audio processing, Sano renders personal mind-maps in his work - eclectic and off-kilter productions shot-through with warmth and propelled by potent drums. His latest offering for Sheik ‘N’ Beik is one fans old and new will relish: a series of 4 warped excursions showcasing Sano’s refined and idiosyncratic studio techniques.‘Bypass Motion’ kicks things off with a fizzing 909 and a loose-limbed bass pattern set churning under brisk, steely atmospheres. Dense in the low-end, ‘Child’s Play’ then follows up with a hard-nosed groove carried by horror-movie sweeps and distant computerised vocals.Digital exclusive ‘DRTSY’ then packs in washed drums set to an arresting, pacy groove alongside haunting vocal builds and melodic, filtered bubbles. ‘Mixing Error’ then sets a staggered kick pattern spearing through a rich fog of tape noise that gathers with it thick pads and distant, menacing synth tones that generate a capacious sense of space and close off another fine addition to Sheik ‘N’ Beik’s blooming catalogue.

NYC experimentalists Sheik N Beik add to a series of successful parties in the capital as well as an extolled slew of 12”s from the likes of Legowelt & Xosar as Xamiga and Jeffrey Scott with another weird and wonderful record courtesy of Sheik N Beik founder Julio operating under a new guise: Rechulski. Also hailing from NYC and a regular at the collective’s parties - Rechulski offers up a celestial 3 track EP as his debut and in doing so offers up an insight into a left-of-centre approach to production that lends him perfectly to a record with Sheik ‘N’ Beik. ‘Jürgens’ is an excersise in tense, burning Techno and kicks the EP off with powerful analogue drums rattling against cold, distant pads. Clever sequencing has the track snowballing throughout as subtle tones and shimmering percussive elements are added before Müller drives a stout kick drum under tumbling, phased melodies that are interweaved to form a formiddable wall of sound. Rüdiger then renders a chilly lunar landscape as it suffuses gentle flickering textures with wide spread synth sweeps. A cyclical sequence gently bleeds into focus alongside sharp electronic pulses that round off a rich and varied release and another solid addition to the Sheik ‘N’ Beik series and an exciting insight into an auspicious new producer.
