The Villainess received a fourminute standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival. As a young girl, Sook-hee was trained to become a deadly assassin. A second chance is handed to her by South Korea’s Intelligence Agency Chief, Kwon, who recruits her and gives her a new identity as Chae Yeon-soo, a 27-year-old theatre actress.

With the promise of complete freedom after serving her country for 10 years, Sook-hee begins a new
chapter, but living a normal existence is no easy task for an ex-killer. When two men suddenly appear in
her life, she begins to uncover the secrets of her past.

The Villainess received a four-minute standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival, cementing the worldwide growth and interest in South Korean action cinema. The explosive soundtrack from Ja Wan Koo perfectly complements the exquisitely choreographed fight sequences and the darkness of The Villainess’ ultra-violent world.

Richter’s approach explores the feelings of the protagonist’s family, the Garveys, through intimate, small scale music. He tackles this psychological landscape by bringing a ritual quality to the score, while themes of departure and loss are represented by a sense of sonic decay, relying on the instrumentation of a few sustained tones on pianos, harps and celesta. Max Richter is a classically trained composer that defies boundaries. Trained at the Royal Academy of Music and finishing his studies under the tutelage of avant-garde composer Luciano Berio in Florence, Richter’s career has followed many paths. His musical output ranges from ballets (Wayne MacGregor’s Infra), reinventions of classical works (Vivaldi’s Four Seasons), collaborations with The Future Sound Of London, Roni Size and Vashti Bunyan to writing scores for film and TV (Waltz With Bashir, Lost and Found, Last Days on Mars) and solo work (Memoryhouse, The Blue Notebooks, 24 Postcards In Full Colour).

From small beginnings in 1974 as a local cinema and university event, Film Fest Gent has grown yearly in stature and is now recognised as one of the major destinations for the film industry. A vital component is the celebration of film music in the shape of the World Soundtrack Awards which honours the very best composers at work in the world of cinema. In 2016 the award went to one of the most brilliant composers of his generation, Ryuichi Sakamoto. This is the first overview of his remarkable catalogue of film scores, fully approved by the composer and performed by the masterful Brussels Philharmonic under the baton of Dirk Brossé. Sakamoto was already a celebrated pioneer in electronic music and composer/pianist/singer in Japan when director Nagisa Oshima asked him to write the score for Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence in 1983 and also to star alongside David Bowie. In a 30 year plus career since then he has worked with the cream of film directors including Bernardo Bertolucci (The Last Emperor), Brian De Palma (Snake Eyes), Pedro Almodovar (High Heels) and most recently Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (The Revenant). This compilation is a fitting tribute to his status as one of the greatest living musicians and film composers.

* Housed in a Gatefold Sleeve Poet Laureate John Masefield's classic 1935 fantasy was brought to TV screens in 1984 at a cost of £1 million, the most expensive children's series to date in the history of the BBC. A forerunner to the work of CS Lewis, Roald Dahl and JK Rowling, the series remains a golden memory of 80’s childhood. Starring Patrick Troughton and Robert Stephens and filmed in a variety of scenic locations in the UK, it's the story of a young schoolboy whose ownership of a magic box allows him to shrink, fly, revisit the past and experience incredible wonders and creatures. The series was renowned for its ambitious special effects scooping three BAFTA awards, one for best children's series and two for television craft.

Composer Roger Limb, a specialist in electronic music and working with The BBC Radiophonic Workshop, is famed for his Doctor Who work, but his range extended much further than science-fiction and includes Martin Luther: Heretic and the Look And Read serials. Mirroring the visuals, the music presents a truly innovative score combining real instruments with synthesised sounds. Included on this release is the delightful original theme, Victor Hely-Hutchinson's Carol Symphony: Andante quasi lento e cantabile performed by the Pro Arte Orchestra.

Supercar was the second Gerry Anderson show to use the Supermarionation technique. An impressive thirty-nine episodes were produced between 1961 and 1962, so Barry Gray had to produce the music fast and on a limited budget. He composed a series of themes for locations, situations and characters. The main star of the show, Supercar, is given the heroic theme, whilst the rest of the score veers between charmingly whimsical to support the dialogue and menacing when underlining the drama. The forty-piece orchestra was conducted by Gray himself. Barry Gray was amongst the first composers to use electronic instruments in music for television. One such instrument was the Ondes Martenot, used to produce otherworldly musical motifs and fragments and later to create sound effects for Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons.

Peter Howell joined the BBC Radiophonic Workshop in 1974, coming from a career in various psychedelic folk bands, which saw him record five albums with fellow musician John Ferdinando. He composed his first Doctor Who output in '75 in the form of some incidental music for "Revenge of the Cybermen" and special sound for "Planet of Evil". In 1980, he was asked by the programme's then new producer, John Nathan-Turner, to update the iconic Doctor Who theme. The new arrangement appeared on that year's "The Leisure Hive", continuing to be used through Tom Baker's remaining series as the Doctor and throughout Peter Davison's. It was replaced during Colin Baker's tenure in 1986 with a new version by Dominic Glynn. "Through A Glass Darkly" was released in 1978 as a standalone studio album by Howell in collaboration with the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. The six original instrumental compositions (one of which is 19 minutes long) flaunt a prog rock influence as well as the distinctive electronic sound of the RWS. "The Astronauts" (track 5, side 2) appeared again as a B side to the 1980 single release of his version of the Doctor Who theme.

Paddy Kingsland was the first Radiophonic composer to see a solo release of his compositions, although he is not credited on the sleeve. "Fourth Dimension", first released in 1973, showcased Kingsland's theme tunes for television and radio while at the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. The recordings feature a rock-style backing band and synthesisers including the VCS 3 and "Delaware" Synthi 100, and the track "Reg" from the album was also released as the B side to the 1973 single release of the iconic Doctor Who theme tune. Kingsland remained at the workshop for 21 years, leaving in 1981, during which time he composed music for much loved TV shows The Changes, Doctor Who and The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy among others.

Pressed on “Heavenly Blue” and “Hellish Red” Vinyl / Composer David Arnold’s soundtrack to the highly anticipated TV adaptation of Neil Gaiman and Terry
Pratchett’s 1990 comic fable makes its debut on vinyl.

Amazon Prime's six episode mini-series follows the odd couple, angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and demon Crowley (David Tennant) in their quest to sabotage the end of the World, delivering a tongue in cheek adaptation of this powerful and funny story.

From David Arnold, the award-winning composer of Sherlock and Casino Royale, comes a soundtrack that perfectly complements Good Omens’ drama and visual sensibilities. At times nostalgic and eerie but always varied, beautiful and full of excitement, this robust, yet funny music entity has become another character in the story. Here, Arnold has created a contemporary soundworld for heaven and hell. Tori Amos performs A Nightingale Sang In Berkeley Square as a closing song.

David Arnold is one of the UK’s leading film composers, composing scores for blockbusters including
Stargate, The Chronicles of Narnia: the Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Hot Fuzz, Paul, Independence Day, 2 Fast 2 Furious and Casino Royale. The Good Omens TV series launched on Amazon Prime Video around the world in May 2019.

- Original soundtrack by Gianni Ferrio - Silver/Red Coloured Vinyl - Featured on Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds" soundtrack The classic 1965 Spaghetti Western, "Un Dollaro Bucato" (Blood for a Silver Dollar) was an Italian/French collaboration directed by Giorgio Ferroni in which ex-Confederate lieutenant Gary O'Hara is duped by a corrupt landowner and mistakenly kills his brother. Gary is also shot and left for dead but is saved by the silver dollar he carries in his pocket, enabling him to return and revenge his brother's death. The film's release in America saw the title changed to "One Silver Dollar" and its star's name changed from Guiliano Gemma to the rather less Italian sounding Montgomery Wood, under which moniker Gemma continued to perform. Ferrio's music for "Un Dollaro Bucato" has all the galloping excitement and standoff tension of Morricone's soundtracks for Sergio Leone's classic Dollars Trilogy and was used by Tarantino in his 2009 film "Inglourious Basterds".

Third in a collectible set Eight Doctor Who Story Releases! Original TV Soundtrack
by Don Harper! Gatefold Sleeve by Clayton Hickman! The Invasion was an eight-part
Doctor Who story made and transmitted in 1968. Written by Derrick Sherwin (from
a story by Kit Pedler), it starred Patrick Troughton as the second Doctor and featured
the Brigadier, UNIT, and the Cybermen in a "modern Earth invasion" Doctor Who
story that became a hugely influential series at the time. At the helm was Douglas
Camfield, one of popular television's most maverick and talented directors of the
1960s and 1970s. The music was composed by Don Harper, the third Australian
émigré composer (after Ron Grainer and Dudley Simpson) to work on the
programme. Harper's soundtrack may have been influenced by John Barry's score for
The Ipcress File (1965). He uses the cimbalom in the score, and the artist was most
likely John Leach (a.k.a. Janos Lehar), who played on The Ipcress File, King Rat and
The Persuaders. The release also features "Muzak" by John Baker (referred to as such
in the cue sheets for episodes 1 and 2), which had its first outing in an Out of the
Unknown episode. The master tape of the music for `The Invasion' was lost soon
after transmission, but Harper retained a 7« ips `composer's copy' that forms the
basis of this release. Additionally, the score was augmented by extensive use of
electronic sounds by Brian Hodgson of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop.

500 x Limited Numbered Edition Double LP on
White Vinyl - 1970's Cult BBC TV Original Soundtrack - First Ever Release -
Written by Paddy Kingsland and the BBC Radiophonic Workshop The
critically acclaimed BBC TV series, The Changes, was first broadcast by the
BBC in in 1975, accompanied by music from electronic pioneer Paddy
Kingsland, who wrote and recorded the score while working at the BBC
Radiophonic Workshop. The 10 part series, adapted from Peter Dickinson's
book trilogy, was perfectly suited to Kingsland's seminal electronic style,
following a teenager living in a Britain where machinery and technology emit
a terrible, all-enveloping noise, causing the population to destroy them.
Kingsland used an early synthesiser, the EMS Synthi 100 (which was
apparently so large, they had to remove the doors of the studio to get it
through), overlaid with live instruments including sitar, percussion, tabla, flute
and horns to create a soundtrack which is indicative of exactly how the BBC
Radiophonic Workshop's early output influenced and informed the popular
electronic music of the Eighties and beyond. Kingsland went on to write the
music for (amongst others) The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (Radio and
TV series), Doctor Who and Around the World in 80 Days, as well as
composing for the KPM music library, who issued eight albums of his work.
An LP of his Radiophonic Workshop output, "The Fourth Dimension" , was
released by BBC Records in 1973.

influence on the post -apocalyptic genre is undisputed. Australian born Ron
Grainer's (The Prisoner, Doctor Who) experimental soundtrack skilfully blends
orchestral, funk and jazz influences to produce a lush and varied score that

Nicolas Roeg's 1973 horror film Don't Look Now still retains the power to shock 44
years after its release and over that time has established itself as a seminal work in that
genre. Julie Christie and Donald Sutherland are a married couple mourning the death of
their young daughter, clinging on to her memory through a meeting with a mysterious
psychic in Venice. Native Venetian composer Pino Donaggio was discovered by a
producer on the film and his music appealed to director Roeg. It became his debut film
score, launching a long career and a close working relationship with Brian De Palma. Many
of the instruments in this recording were played by the composer himself. As well as
writing soundtracks, Donaggio wrote Dusty Springfield's chart-topping hit "You Don't
Have To Say You Love Me" (originally a hit in Italian as "Io Che Non Vivo") The cover

On "Bhutan Blue Flower" Vinyl in a gatefold sleeve. Majestic soundtrack by two of the film world's greatest contemporary composers.

In this first film from the "Dark Knight Trilogy", director Christopher Nolan took DC Comic's classic character in a different and altogether darker direction.

Released in 2005, the movie was a critical and commercial success, now widely regarded as the best superhero film of the 2000's.

Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard's moody, intense score perfectly complements director Christopher Nolan's dark world using a sound palette that successfully taps into the psychological aspects of the story as well as the psyche of the main character himself.

The track names are all species of bat and many of them have featured on a succession of trailers for other films.

The soundtrack was originally released on vinyl format in the UK in 2012 and is now released on blue vinyl for the first time.

"I really turned the orchestra basically on its head. In a funny way I made the orchestra more into the electronics and the electronics more into the orchestra.

It's hard to explain, but the orchestra never got to play the way a normal orchestra plays" - Hans Zimmer

Originally released in 1969, this LP features music by BBC Radiophonic Workshop members Delia Derbyshire and Brian Hodgson alongside David Vorhaus, an American born composer and musician with whom they formed the experimental electronic band "White Noise".

It was put out by the Standard Music Library label, set up in 1968 by Bucks Music and London Weekend Television, which supplied production music for use in TV, commercials, radio and film.

Many of these tracks were used in the 1960's cult TV show, "The Tomorrow People" and each one has a short description of the music after the track title.

Both Derbyshire and Hodgson assumed pseudonyms in the credits: Li de la Russe & Nikki St.

George respectively. Two of the tracks are co-written by the pair, who also worked together to set up the organisation and studio project "Unit Delta Plus", which was extensively involved in the promotion and exploration of electronic music.

A masterpiece of suspense and no-holds barred action, Puppet on a Chain was
adapted from Alistair Maclean's 1969 novel and released in 1971. Directed by
Geoffrey Reeve and starring a granite-jawed Sven-Bertil Taube, the film's signature
boat chase (lasting eight minutes!) along the canals of Amsterdam was rumoured to
be the inspiration for the similar sequence in Bond's Live and Let Die. The action is
underpinned by Italian soundtrack maestro Piero Piccioni's blistering Hammondheavy
score. Piccioni composed around 300 soundtracks over four decades, but was
most prolific during the 60's and 70's, when he was sought out by directors including
Francesco Rosi, Mario Monicelli, Alberto Lattuada, Luchino Visconti, Bernardo
Bertolucci, Roberto Rossellini, Vittorio De Sica and Lina Wertmuller. A talented
self-taught jazz musician, Piccioni's soundtrack to Puppet on a Chain retains
effortless style, portraying a decadent 1970's Amsterdam overrun with drugs and
organised crime.

Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the 2016 Venice International Film Festival, Nocturnal Animals, Tom Ford’s haunting romantic thriller has been hailed as “a tour de force” (The Independent). Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal star as a divorced couple discovering dark truths about each other and themselves. Nocturnal Animals marks the second film from writer/director Ford, and his second collaboration with composer Korzeniowski. Their first collaboration, A Single Man, earned Korzeniowski his first Golden Globe nomination for Best Score. The score was a breakout for the composer, earning him the prestigious Discovery Award at the 2010 Ghent Film Festival’s World Soundtrack Awards. Korzeniowski has described his latest score to Nocturnal Animals as “embracing two extremes, but switching their traditional genre characterization. The crime plot is scored as an intimate, personal story, while the psychological drama is treated as a thriller. The cold and detached intertwines with poignant and excruciating, the simple and intimate becomes grand and bold." The composer’s passionate and evocative compositions have been met with critical and industry acclaim. His score to Ford’s latest film has The Hollywood Reporter stating “the tempestuous strings of Abel Korzeniowski’s lush score provide an additional ballsy flourish, explicitly nodding to Hitchcock and Sirk.”

The original soundtrack conducted by Bernard Herrmann sees its first vinyl release
as a double LP on black vinyl. This timeless 1959 Alfred Hitchcock thriller set a new
benchmark for the format across the following decades as the precursor to James
Bond and the wide-screen world of larger than life action adventure. Starring Cary
Grant, it's the story of a man in peril being pursued across America from New York
to Mount Rushmore. Bernard Herrmann's score for the film is overwhelmingly an
orchestral tour-de-force and this release presents the fullest of stereo mixes of the
original recordings under the baton of the composer himself. It allows the listener
to appreciate the incredible line-up of MGM contracted musicians whose flair across
the entire range of orchestral instruments delivers one of the most breath-taking
soundtracks ever recorded. Herrmann described it as, “a kaleidoscopic orchestral
fandango designed to kick-off the exciting rout which follows”. Premiered in Chicago
on July 1st 1959, this release puts you dead centre in the best seats in the house to
recapture the debut of that musical moment from 57 years ago.
