The Rock-A-Shacka crew are proud to announce this new collection of classic and previously unreleased Prince Buster productions. Continuing from where they left off with Buster’s ‘Let’s Go To The Dance’, the latest Ska, ballad and shuffle selection from the ‘King Of Ska’ Prince Buster!
The compilation features beautiful vocals and instrumentals from the likes of Prince Buster, Derrick Morgan, Patsy, Slim Smith, the mighty Don Drummond and the Buster All Stars.

Several incredible tracks have never been released before.
The alternative and raw take of “Prince Of Peace”, a deadly and previously unreleased instrumental by the genius Don Drummond titled “Vietnam”, a truly wicked instrumental “Charles Street Cowboy” (dig the cowbell!) A lovely duet with Prince Buster and Slim Smith “I’m Sorry”, plus a deadly take of “Summertime” by the Buster All Stars.

Also included are classics like the Ska version of “Hey Train”, a cover version of Duke Ellington’s “Take The A Train”, which was only pressed on dub plate handed to the core sound men of Prince Buster’s “Voice Of The People” sound system.

Roland Alphonso’s “Roll On Charles Street” is again from dub plate and apparently recorded at the same period as the masterpiece and rude boy classic “Rude Rude Rudie” (aka “Don’t Throw Stones”). The classic “Stop That Train” by The Spanish Town Skabeats, the original take of the famous Jamaican rock steady classic by Keith and Tex, for Derrick Harriot, to name a few!

What more can be said about The Slackers? Having released over 20 albums and countless singles over a decades-spanning career that dates back to 1991, the New York City hometown heroes have managed to thrive both underground and internationally in the firmly entrenched revival scenes of ska, punk and rock 'n roll. Their generational impact may be unmatched, especially considering the incredible run and reach that they've made throughout a myriad of tours across North America, Europe and South America. Easily standard bearers for the modern day, working, independent musician, The Slackers have also embodied a very thoughtful and respectful brand of Jamaican roots music and production into their own skilled compositions and writing. It's a concrete connection to the musical roots that makes this particular one-off release on NYCT a prime example of The Slackers in their most classic and reverential stance. Two unreleased exclusive instrumentals in the canonical Jamaican stylee: one ska, one rock steady, two burners on the preferred 7-inch format.

Brand New 2017 Recut - finally available on Vinyl for the First time. 2LP+Mp3 in full Original Coverart. The legendary movie soundstrack based out of Kingston, Jamaica in April 2008, telling the story of the original vocalists and musicians involved. The sixteenth release on the Moll-Selekta label shares its title with a wonderful film, a heartwarming homage to the golden age of rocksteady. It documents the recordings being made for this very album at the Tuff Gong studios, Kingston, Jamaica in April 2008, telling the story of the original vocalists and musicians involved. Excerpts from an all star reunion concert staged in Kingston and older archive material complete the picture. Never before in the history of Jamaica, which already occupies a unique place on the world map of song, its sound embraced by western popular music, has such an illustrious collection of singers and players been assembled. The album showcases 15 rocksteady classics in sparkling, deeply inspired new versions, recorded in the studio which also played host to album sessions of a certain Bob Marley. Under the musical direction of Ernest Ranglin, a guitarist of considerable renown not only on the reggae circuit, but also on the jazz scene, mixed by legendary engineer Errol Brown - in Duke Reid’s employ at the Treasure Isle studio in the sixties - and freshly arranged by Lynn Taitt.

A spirited minor key track, with solos by Alphonso and Brooks. Trumpeter Harper takes the honours on this one, his trademark vibrato well in evidence. His big hit for Buster was “Mighty Like A Rose”. The 12-track Skatalites album do make for a tidy sampler of some of the best sides the group cut for producer Duke Reid during the last days of Jamaican R&B and the early ska period. While by no means a definitive collection, Skatalite collates some choice cuts like ‘Eastern Standard Time’, ‘Don-De-Lion’ and ‘Yard Broom’ featuring the classic line-up on fine form, with Don Drummond on trombone, Jackie Mittoo’s piano and trumpeter Jonny “Dizzy” Moore laying down some foundational rhythms.

Available as a limited edition of 1000 individually numbered copies on orange vinyl.

7 inch singles were instrumental to the development of the Jamaican music industry, more affordable than full lengths for the consumer, they also allowed the labels to turnaround what was being recorded into music played from their booming sound systems as quickly as possible. In that spirit, Get On Down will be reissuing some of the most crucial reggae and ska sides on 45.
This issue marks a slight departure in the series as Symarip were not a Jamaican group but had their origins in the UK. By the time Skinhead Moonstomp was released as a single in 1969, reggae had spread its influence into the UK to such an extent that it changed British music for good. Symarip were the first group to work to directly appeal to UK skinhead culture, creating the climate that allowed for the explosion of the two tone movement in the late
1970s. Yet it was only on the singles’ reissue in 1980 that the cut hit the UK charts, landing at #54. So, to paraphrase the song’s intro, get up on your feet,
put your braces together and your boots on your feet, it’s time again for some of that old moonstompin’.”

Winston ‘Niney’ Holmes AKA The Observer, must be one of Reggaes finest Roots Rebel producers. Capable of making some of the heaviest, innovative music, not only in sound but also in the Cultural/Political sense.
Born George Boswell, Montego Bay, Jamaica 1951, and name checked ‘Niney’ due to losing a thumb in a workshop accident. He began his career in music by organising bands to play at school dances. But his first steps learning the musical ropes came working under the tutelage of producer Bunny Lee around 1967, organising sessions for Bunny’s stable of artists. He moved on to work alongside Lee Perry at Joe Gibb’s ‘Amalgamated’ label setup, where on Lee Perry’s leaving in 1969 to start his own ‘Upsetter’ label, Niney became chief engineer.
Inspired by Perry’s success it wasn’t long before his own ‘Destroyer’ label was under way. It was 1970, and his first production entitled ‘Mr Brown’ by DJ’s Dennis Alcapone and Lizzy, proved to be a minor hit, but his own ‘Blood and Fire’ track released in December of that year would become a major hit. After initial problems with it’s likeness to Bob Marley’s track ‘ Duppy Conqueror’ being ironed out, it’s reissue on his now named ‘Observer’ label, saw it go on to become, Jamaican Record of the Year 1971. Far out selling Bob Marley’s track to the tune of 30,000 copies in Jamaica alone. A roots classic…
Niney’s reputation for building great roots tracks, was furthered with more success working with singer Max Romeo. Issuing cuts such as ‘Beard Man Feast’, the great ‘Reggae Matic’ and ‘Aily Ailaloo’ and renewing his friendship with Lee Perry on the track ‘Rasta Band Wagon’, who’s production credit read Perry, Niney, Maxie. In 1973, Niney began working with Dennis Brown, who was already an established star from an early age, they found a chemistry that went on to produce some of Dennis’ finest work. The 1973 hit ‘Westbound Train’ was followed in 1974 by ‘Cassandra’, ‘I am the Conqueror’ and the timeless ‘No More Shall I rOam’. Another important connection around this time was the great King Tubby who Niney would take his tapes along to and even record some of his tracks at Tubby’s house, 18 Drummlie Avenue, Kingston, which doubles as his Studio of Dub.
It’s these tracks that we are concentrating on here. Tubby would strip the tracks back to the bone and rebuild then sometimes leaving off the hook line. Whether that be the horn line or keyboard line and adding effects over the top that could disguise the cut even more. Even Niney stating that when Tubby had finished with a cut, he found it hard to recognise the track himself. Its these tracks as dub plate specials that Tubby would play on his Hometown HI-FI Sound System and it’s these such tracks that we have compiled for this release. Dub Plated that have not seen the light of day since tragically the great Osborne Ruddock AKA King Tubby was gunned won and murdered on the 06th December 1989. For a few dollars and a gold chain, reggae music has lost one of it’s most creative, inventive forces.

Niney also cut tracks with many other Reggae giants such as Gregory Issacs, Michael Rose, Junior Delgado, Horace Andy and Delroy Wilson to name but a few. As in house producer at the legendry Channel Studios and supervising sessions at Dynamic and Randy’s Studio 17, his magic touched many. DJ, Arranger, Producer, his Roots Rebel music still stands the test of time.
Hope you enjoy the set…..

As the sixties came to a close, Laurel Aitken was firmly established as Britian's favourite Jamaican performer, enormously popular with members of both the country's West Indian ex-pat communities and its rapidly growing Reggae-loving Skinhead population. Unsurprisingly, competition to gain rights to his works among the country's leading Jamaican music companies was fierce and often bitter, so when, early in 69, Pama Records acquired his signature, the achievement was rightly regarded as a major coup by the London-based operation. Over the weeks that immediately followed, Laurel duly provided Pama with a number of best-selling singles, and while single artist compilations by Jamaican artists were still considered a rarity, such was the demand for the singer's music the company wasted little time in issuing a long-playing collection: Scandal In Brixton Market. Featuring a handful of previously released sides along with seven recordings exclusive to the collection, the LP also featured guest appearances from two of the UK's most popular Jamaican acts, Girlie and celebrated trombonist, Rico Rodriquez. A must-have collection for all Reggae fans, Scandal In Brixton Market quickly sold out at stores the length and breadth of the country, and over the years that have followed it has become increasingly scarce. It is therefore with great pleasure that some 45+ years after its original release, Radiation Reissues is able to present it again on vinyl.

Studio One Rocksteady Volume 2 - Rocksteady, Soul And Early Reggae At Studio One

Genre:Reggae / Dancehall
Soul Jazz Records’ new journey into the mighty vaults of Clement Dodd’s Studio One steps once more into the fertile
musical environment of Jamaican music in the late 1960s and early 1970s, from the sweet harmony vocals of
seminal 1960s Rocksteady right up to the nascent birth of Reggae and Roots music at the start of the 1970s.
Sleevenotes to this album are by Steve Barrow, author of ‘Rough Guide to Reggae’ as well as Soul Jazz Records’ own
‘Reggae Soundsystem Cover Art’ books.
While Ska at the start of the 1960s had taken American Rhythm and Blues as its main influence, Rocksteady focused
on the emergence of American Soul music – with Jamaican vocal harmony groups such as The Gaylads, John Holt &
The Paragons, Carlton & The Shoes showing a particular fascination with the close harmonies of Curtis Mayfield and
The Impressions and other US Soul acts. Here The Heptones even feature with a cover of Bob Dylan’s ‘I Shall Be
Released’.
The influence of Soul music on Jamaican Rocksteady and Reggae is almost palpable, so much so that one wonders
how much more successful singers like Delroy Wilson, Alton Ellis, Slim Smith and John Holt would have been had
they been born in Chicago, Detroit or Memphis.
Artists such as Alton Ellis, Delroy Wilson and Owen Gray defined the era – a slowed down beat as Jamaican political
and social heat slowly increased when the 1960s progressed into the start of the 1970s – and the music evolved
further from Rocksteady into Roots Reggae.

What you have in your hand is Tappa Zukie’s legendary ‘Escape from Hell’ album.
Originally released in 1977 as a dub follow up to Tapper’s exceptional 1976 release ‘Tappa Zukie in Dub’ (JRLP044).
The ‘In Dub’ album was cut using the great talents of engineer Philip Smart, but when the tracks were pulled together for its follow up ‘Escape to Hell’ Philip Smart had left Jamaica for New York and his replacement at the controls was Prince Jammy.Who had just returned from Canada at the request of King Tubby himself.
The purpose was to fill Mr. Smarts position.
Tapper was definitely in good hands and at the time he would tell the Prince was soon to become King Jammy due to his outstanding studio work.
The ‘Escape from Hell’ set was initially overlooked more to the fact of the small numbers of its original pressing. The album makes great use of Tapper’s extraordinary Channel One rhythms cut with Sly and Robbie’s The Revolutionary’s Band.
Great rhythms matched the magic from King Tubby’s studio at the hands of Prince Jammy.
We added the cd release for this album and at Tappers request some alternative dubs and tracks that seem to compliment this set.
So drop the needle on this great album and judge for yourself..

Coxsone’s Music is a stunning new 3-CD/two separate double LP (+ free download) collection featuring over two and half hours of early Jamaican proto-ska, rhythm and blues, jazz, rastafari and gospel music – charting the earliest recordings produced by Clement Dodd, in the years before he launched the mighty Studio One Records, brought together here for the first time ever.
Clement Dodd’s Sir Coxsone The Downbeat Soundsystem ruled Kingston’s dancehalls during this era and these recordings strongly reflect the influences of American rhythm and blues and jump jazz on Jamaican music fans.
By the time the new record company formed in Brentford Road, Kingston in 1963, the young Clement ‘Sir Coxsone’ Dodd had already managed to release an incredible wealth of recordings by the talented musicians and artists on the island of Jamaica and this collection reflects just that:
Featuring Don Drummond, Roland Alphonso, Derrick Harriott, Owen Gray, Clancy Eccles, Count Ossie, Monty Alexander, The Blues Busters, Ernest Ranglin, Rico Rodriguez and many, many more all captured here in their formative early years.
Before Studio One, Clement Dodd released this music on a variety of his early record labels such as Worldisc, All Stars, Coxsone, D Darling (named after Coxsone’s mother, who received a production credit on the label), Muzik City (named after Dodd’s record store on East Queen’s Street), Port O Jam, Supreme and Sensational.
Sleevenotes to this collection are by Studio One authority Rob Chapman, author of the Never Grow Old and Downbeat Special books cataloguing the many recordings of the label.

'Ska With Laurel' tells the story of Ska legend Laurel Aitken. A major force within Ska music, Laurel was a hugely influential figure in the development of new Jamaican musical styles in the 1950s and '60s. He also played a key role in bringing these genres to popularity in England. Laurel moved from Jamaica to England in the early 1960s and released his records on the Blue Beat label. Proving popular with the mods and skinheads in the 1960s and '70s, Laurel's music also influenced the Two Tone sound of the early 1980s, in particular bands such as The Specials, Selecter, The Beat and Bad Manners.

Emotional Rescue presents the music of Haile Maskel in the first in a reissue series working with Patrick Billard aka DJ Duckcomb, sourcing and licensing from this digger's vaults and out to the wider world. Heralding from the furtive 60's Trenchtown, Jamaica, young Michael Ashley aka Haile Maskel grew up singing, learning guitar and bass. His first recording session was produced by friend Bob Marley, with Peter Tosh on keys, Robbie Shakespeare on bass and Carlton Barrett on drums. The list of sessions is long, working with Lee Perry, Light Of Saba, Dennis Brown and Sugar Minott. Touring took him overseas where he settled in Los Angeles in 1983, soon launching his Opulence Sound) label. Maskel's band, the 101's featured members of The Twinkle Brothers, including cousins Asher and Debo Brown on drum and bass, and augmented by local players. Mixing conscious messages in love songs, Maskel crafts a boogie discodub on which to exalt an uplifting summer jam. With the highly prized original the tapes unearthed unreleased dubs - "Take 1" providing a wonderful version. LA native Duckcomb found a trove of tapes of unheard material, still for discovery. For now, his longform Discomix, cutting and editing Maskel's vocal along with the dubs, completes a first archival splendor.

Washington DC’s Loving Paupers have been taking the world by storm with a broken hearted reggae vibe that appeals to lovers rock and roots fans alike. The Loving Paupers recorded their debut EP in 2016, working alongside Grammy Award winning Brazilian producer Victor Rice, and since have received rave reviews for performances at various festivals and their 2019 debut album “LINES” – ten melancholic songs that touch upon heartbreak and emotional dissidence, moody melodies enhanced once again by Victor Rice’s loving touch. It’s an album heavily influenced by the likes of The Beatles, Kinks, Zombies, The Supremes, to the late Gregory Issacs, Sugar Minott, and Dennis Brown. Featuring powerhouse lead vocalist Kelly Di Filippo, whose emotive style brings immediate comparisons to Chan Marshall (Cat Power), Jane Birkin, Kate Bush and even Joni Mitchell, in modern reggae circles the band is likened to recent output by Hollie Cook, The Frightnrs, and The Skints. Victor Rice dubbed the entire 10 songs from “LINES” which we first unleashed on our official Cassette Store Day release back in October. Of course vinyl fans wanted to hold a slab of wax in their hands and play these amazing dub versions on their platters! Limited edition of 250 copies on heavyweight black vinyl. We also did a limited run of 100 CDs that feature the vocal ans dubs!

St Louis soulful ska darlings' 1996 Moon Ska NYC debut on vinyl for the first time.St Louis soulful ska darlings' 1996 Moon Ska NYC debut on vinyl for the first time. The Skalars (originally led by Isaac Green), are a female-fronted band, one of only a handful of women-led full time groups found in the 90's third wave scene. Even more uniquely, not only are three-quarters of their excellent brass section women, but all the band's singers also double as horn players. As for Isaac Green himself, he is the band's skanking and crowd-pleasing MC. The Skalars are as indebted to the American R&B scene as they are to ska's Jamaican originators, and the Brits that amped up the genre during the Two Tone years. The band's choice of cover songs reflect those first two influences, diving back into early-'60s R&B for the Marvelettes' "Beechwood 4-5789" and Wynonie Harris' "Bloodshot Eyes," and back to the Caribbean for the Heptones' "I Love You." The Skalars' originals swing from Two Tone skankers with R&B undertones to the big band jazz that reflects their love of the Skatalites, and on occasion, as with the instrumental "Special K," more Latin-flavored styles. But for each of the high energy ska numbers, there are also slower, sweeter reggae songs, like the haunting "High School" or the riff driven, bass heavy "Don't Count." It's a unique and stylistic mix, and the band deliver it with true style.

Jamaican ska legends' latest album "Platinum Ska" finally out on vinyl with three bonus dubs. The group has been at the forefront of ska music since the mid-'60s, and this studio album is their first recordings to follow the band's 50th anniversary celebrations in 2014. The Skatalites built the foundation for Jamaican music, and was part of it's evolution as it morphed from ska to rock steady then reggae, helping give birth to household names like Toots and The Maytals, Lee Perry, and of course Bob Marley & The Wailers. Since re-forming in the '80s, The Skatalites have been through their share of transformation and have sadly seen most of the band's original members pass on. Each of today's existing members were hand-picked by the band's original members to play, and they continue to hold down the tradition by performing at some of the most prestigious festivals around the world. Two of the tracks included on "Platinum Ska" feature original 60's era drummer Lloyd Knibb (who passed away in 2011), plus it captures alto sax player Lester Sterling and vocalist Doreen Shaffer, the last two living original Skatalites members. The album was mixed in Mali and also includes guest appearances by legendary Malian musicians Assaba Dramé and Madou Sidiki Diabaté. Simply put, "Platinum Ska" is a testament to some of the greatest Jamaican musicians the world has ever seen, and Jump Up is proud to preserve this legacy once again with a limited vinyl edition.

English-born Mark Foggo began his music career in Amsterdam in 1979, he had discovered ska music through the popularity of 2-Tone bands such as The Specials and The Beat, inspiring him to start his own 287/ska band, The Secret Meeting. After 285ly releasing a single entitled "New Shoes", the band was promptly signed to Polydor Records in 1980 for the full length "Speeding My Life Away." Foggo's passion for ska eventually grew larger until he omitted the 287 / new wave songs entirely, focusing exclusively on ska for his first solo album, 1983's "A State of Mind". He formed his most notable band, Mark Foggo's Skasters, in 1987, and their 1989 debut, "Ska Pig", was a huge international success, often cited as a classic of the ska genre. Foggo founded his own label Skanky' Lil in 1990 to release his own music, which he describes as "modern, bizarre, non-influenced, up tempo ska", and is characterized by his observational and darkly comic lyricism, as well as his manic and boisterous stage personality. In 2010, Foggo's band signed to V2 Records to release the album "Mad", but after nearly a decade Mark Foggo is back with "SKA PIG RETURNS!" on Jump Up Records.
