Genre:Electronic / Dance
Soma mainstay Deepchord returns with part 2 of the Luxury Series. This Double A release feature Deepchord’s signature atmosphere rich tones and lush environments and also mark a slight upturn in terms of pressing on a more Techno vibe.Luxury 3 opens as spacious as can be as the dynamic Modell crafts otherworldly pads and haunting tones, driven by muted kicks and driving subs. His effective use of delay and reverb knows no bounds as he subtly shifts synth stabs and background noise through the dimensional barrier, creating rhythms so refined they defy the natural law. His usual percussive wizardry is at work here that, whilst vigorous, retains a light atmospheric feeling keeping fully in line with the melancholic tones of the track. Clocking in around 14minutes, this is Modell as his most immersive.Luxury 4 has a distinct Detroit heart to it. Those almost instantly recognisable saw waves, moulded by layers upon layers of processing, swirls and evolve and Deepchord slowly works in various elements of the track to unparalleled levels. Fairly reminiscent of earlier, more stripped work, subtle percussion brings things to life fairly quickly as Modell allows the layers of ethereal synths and processing to blend and fuse naturally, creating a cohesive background to which the listener can easily spend hours listening to, every time finding ever so slight nuances to each cycle of the track.Deepchord never fails to impress with every release and can easily change his style up from previous incarnations based in pure atmospherics to his own unique brand of legendary Dub Techno.

UK techno founders B12 return! The duo's history famously started in the early 90's with their music appearing under a plethora of monikers under the "B12 Records" umbrella - 12" vinyl with notorious cryptic messages engraved in the run-out grooves, before being collected into album form and release on Warp. After a hiatus in the late 90's, the pair resurfaced briefly for some live shows, a flurry of hugely sought-after 12"s and a 7-part CD anthology. They then abruptly disappeared again - this is their first appearance in 5 years, fittingly on Glaswegian imprint Soma. (Their seminal Warp Records album was named Electro Soma...is there a connection?) The Bokide 325 EP Is it a planet to be explored, or the journey through a personal hell? Only a few know for sure but at the end of this voyage expressed in the best way B12 know how, layers of sounds, beats, synths, lush pads, and seductive melodies the hope of a whole new reality is reached. It conjures up foreboding, planetary soundscapes - rooted in the more ambient, filmic side of their output, is it a reflection of recent turmoil within/ the artists personal lives? The EP opens with "Into the Void", whose simple but emotive synth line weaves its way across a variety of beats and sounds, and takes the listener into the depths where the true journey can commence. Onwards, darker and more mysterious notes loom up throughout "Descension" and "Unsound Mind", with pounding bass throbbing underneath, leading further into the world of shadows where the alarming awareness that something isn't quite right never truly leaves you. It concludes with Terra Incognita, the final track of the EP - an unknown place, left to be discovered and completed by the listener.

Genre:Electronic / Dance
A foray into deep, organic, cinematic dance music. Subterranean bass, intercepted alien transmissions, and stripped down dance-beats meld with sheets of sounds that roll over the listener like waves lapping up on the shore. Shimmering, watery, brain hemisphere synchronization tones caress and melt stress away. Dance floor friendly tracks that work equally well in one s private listening space. Immersive music with a distinctive aquatic quality. Inspired by Detroit & Berlin s dance genres, but tempered by more ambience / atmosphere than one would expect from those genres. Music without harshness or rough edges. Fuzzy, out-of-focus, soft-sounds that slip in and out of the listener's consciousness. Uniquely melds current dance rhythms with lushness and spirituality. Synesthetic sounds that trigger sensory experiences in cognitive pathways other than hearing smells of perfumes, thoughts of colours, and altered perception of time and space. Psychoacoustic, cerebral, electronic listening music for those wanting a different experience than the current harsher, darker dance trends are offering. Responsibly made gentle music designed from the ground-up to have a positive effect on the nervous system and leave the listener invigorated and recharged. Chi-building sonic balm. Timeless, exotic dance tracks for a new school of electronic music enthusiasts who are searching for beautiful sounds, crafted with a higher purpose in mind.

Soma proudly present the first in an exciting series of releases to celebrate 25 years at the top of electronic music as we turn to some of our favourite modern artists to reinvent some of the best from the back catalogue and up first is Envoy's timeless classic, Dark Manoeuvres. Originally released as part of the "Coalition EP" in 1996 (which also featured the classic Seawall), Hope Grant's instantly recognisable hit is still found in nearly every Techno DJs record box and has continually served as a beacon of Soma since it's release Four new versions are served up here as Dax J, Norman Nodge, Obscure Shape & SHDW plus Tensal all deliver fine interpretations of this Soma classic.Dax's furious style is the opener as he uses the original chords as they were intended but all the time firing his concussive drum patterns directly to the dance floor. Ostgut Ton's Norman Nodge turns in a delectable dub version in only the way he can by keeping Envoy's original muted and delivering a subtle, introverted version. The duo of Obscure Shape & SHDW are next up and delivery one epic take on Dark Manoeuvres. The pair build the tension early, teasing the strings then unleashing an onslaught, adding their own beautifully led, string section before hammering home. PoleGroup's Tensal closes out our first Soma 25 releases, twisting and cutting the hook to suits his means as thunderous beats work away behind this solid tool. With much more on the horizon, Soma has their gaze fixed firmly on the future of TechnoMastered by Conor Dalton @ Glowcast Mastering

Slam turn to long time friend and collaborator, Len Faki, to head up the third part in the series of remixes of their album Reverse Proceed and he turns in 2 fantastic versions amalgamating two of his top picks from the LP. Slam also feature in this package with a stripped back dub version of Ghosts of Detroit. Working Cirklon Bells & Ghosts Of Detroit together to create Ghosts of Cirklon, Faki drops an epic, tripped out monster of a remix. Merging the lush pad sounds of Cirklon atop the bouncing bass line and aquatic sequence of Ghosts, Faki then adds a fantastic drum work out, complete with a fairly punishing snare, to deliver a real power house version of the two standout tracks from Slam's album. In what feels like a natural progression from the opening track, Faki's version of Ghosts Of Detroit keeps a similar pace whilst the original synth hook now develops into a more pulsing, resonating dub variant. Slam offer up there own dub version of Ghosts Of Detroit to close out the EP. The duo delve deep with this rendering of the project as subtle percussive elements are moulded and shaped around heavy sub bass and gaseous like pads that float gently beneath swathes of reverb soaked synth hits.

incl. Phase RemixFollowing their ongoing relationship with Soma Records, Ukrainian duo Woo York are set to release their new record that proves to be somewhat representative of recent dramatic events in their country. Entitled I Am Against, both the main track and the EP itself are referring to the developments that lead to revolutionary struggle of the Ukrainian people. Fighting inequality, saying what you have to say and doing what you have to do seem to be the core ideas of the record. You might have figured that out yourself by spotting a rebel protester from January’s clash with riot police depicted on the record sleeve. The EP also features a special remix from UK Techno producer, Ø [Phase].Music-wise the EP presents the same idea: the epic energy of the title track highlights the drive that was fuelling peaceful individuals to go out onto the streets and fight for their rights. An excellent remix from Ø [Phase] follows a similar path, although in its own original way that has made the UK-based artist’s name associated with the finest techno to date. Closing the EP ‘In The End’ is a more abstract side of Woo York’s music works that reminds us once again: every single act of violence is bound to come to an end at some point.

The crystalline sonic formations in Cirriforms blend together effortlessly allowing you to drift beyond while the ethereal pads of Sky Maps guide you through each unending swathe of reverb, each track bonded by subtle rhythms. Crystal Horizons sees Modell delve even deeper, working more with percussive elements as his quintessential synth work seems to sit just beyond perspective, gliding in gently to remind you of an ever reaching presence. Sand And Shore has Deepchord near strip the track of any clear rhythmic structure, with only faint sub bass allowing his uniquely processed field recordings and tranquil yet fluctuating synths to enhance the flow of the track. A producer like no other, Deepchord creates new sonic realms with each release.

Genre:Electronic / Dance
Soma are proud to present the debut album from Rebekah as she unleashes the incredible Fear Paralysis . Rebekah has consistently been one of the most ferocious and exciting Techno artists for some time and is currently riding high within the Soma ranks after debuting on the label back in 2015 with the audacious Confined Heart EP . This album has certainly been a labour of love for Rebekah as uncertain times, musically, lead her to refocusing all her time and energy into developing her sound with the aim of creating a cleaner rhetoric than she was generally known for. The culmination of this process has found Rebekah returning to a simpler time where elements from the depths are explored thoroughly within Fear Paralysis.Rebekah wastes no time in diving head first into her first full length, with even the Intro setting the dark and ominous tone of the release. Breakfast With Jeff really kicks off Fear Paralysis as Rebekah further ups the pace, unleashing a menacing yet powerful Techno workout. The feisty producer then takes things down a different path, exploring more album orientated material as 1997 Reprise, Requiem For A Dream & Breath see Rebekah explore various forms of broken beat, atmospheric and more thoughtful territories. Rebekah continues to show her versatility as a producer as the album process continues. Tell Me Your Secrets serves up a more cerebral sound whilst title track Fear Paralysis evokes a deeper more emotive side whilst remaining, ultimately, a dance floor focused track. The later half of the album sees Rebekah once again delivering on what she does best. Thirteen is a pounding and sinister affair, laden with perilous drones leading perfectly into I Died A Thousand Times. Another broken beat affair swamped in mutated sequences and murky background textures. The jacked up Code Black, a track already doing damage as the 2nd single taken from the album, powers home toward the back end of the album which allows Rebekah to bring things to a close on a more deeper tip. Again drifts gently with its staccato baseline line, wistful pads and filtered percussion with Rebekah s own vocals providing the depth. The electronica based Later That Day and the vicious Anxiety, taken from Rebekah s 2nd Soma single, bring this momentous album to an electrifying end.Rebekah easily shows off her adaptability throughout and clearly shows a very wide range of influences in each track, making Fear Paralysis the perfect listening and club use albumMastered by Conor Dalton @ Glowcast Mastering

As we gradually build toward the release of Rebekah's debut album on Soma, the hard hitting DJ/producer drops her 3rd single in the shape of the Code Black EP. Rebekah is on somewhat of a frenzied run of form at the moment with not only an exhaustive touring schedule but a slew of releases that stand as a testament to her dedication to Techno. Title track Code Black hits the ground running with ice cold percussion and thunderous kicks running the show before a more jacking vibe is introduced backed by some seriously perilous pads. Disaster looms even more as Relapse Paradigm tears in next with clunking beats and straight percussive workouts as screeching synths and hooks give an overall foreboding atmosphere. X Confessions closes out the EP in no less vicious terms and Rebekah sets out on the warpath utilising pulsing rhythms and calamity inducing sequences to really rip into the dance floor.

Since it's inception in 1991 on the streets of Glasgow, Soma Records has stood for uncompromising quality of the highest level in every area it operates. Stuart McMillan & Orde Meikle formed Slam during the Acid House explosion in the late 80's and then together with friends Glenn Gibbons & Dave Clarke they forged one of electronic music's most widely known and well respected labels. With McMillan & Meikle as the figureheads with their Slam project and influenced by the early Detroit Techno scene, Soma quickly began to develop it's own sound and with their eyes firmly fixed on a vision of the future, the team began the quest to instill their unquenchable thirst for electronic music into the world around them. Soma quickly became an international brand as Slam's anthemic 'Positive Education' brought about an electronic renaissance that saw the group thrust into the limelight and green lit the furious rise of the label. Soma is also famous for the discovery of French duo Daft Punk and was the home to their first and much loved early singles including 'Alive' and 'Da Funk'. Always at the cutting edge of dance music Soma has set a standard in House, Techno and Ambient Electronica throughout its history, also kick starting the careers of Alex Smoke, Funk D' Void, Silicone Soul, Gary Beck and many, many more who have shared in their vision. Now standing tall and proud at the age of 25 and with over 500 releases under its belt, Soma has without doubt stood the test of time and maintains its forward thinking vision. Preserving a future focused outlook to electronic music in actuality can be something of a difficult task in todays over saturated market. However the Soma ethos has endured and in recent years the label has crafted a resolute and steadfast viewpoint that has seen them enhance their global popularity year in, year out. This more modern outlook has lead perfectly into the Soma25 project, the culmination of the last 25 years of a more than proactive presence in the electronic music scene, the label clearly begins to look to the next 25 years as it readies its most exciting project to date, a distinctively designed box set, packed with one of a kind music and exclusive content. Enlisting the help of such luminaries as Jeff Mills, Robert Hood, Josh Wink, Steve Bicknell, Andrew Weatherall and more, these long time supporters and friends of the label have created, in their eyes, original music which instills in them the Techno vision that Soma has brought to the world. From Mills' otherworldly connections, Weatherall's future/retro acid, Wink's 9min dance floor burner to Hood's straight up, fast paced workout; they all come together to form the collective consciousness of the Soma attitude. Of course, no Soma compilation would be complete without founders Stuart McMillan & Orde Meikle aka Slam, who deliver Tempest, a track that perfectly sums up the whirlwind last few years the pair have enjoyed as they continue to head up the global Techno elite. Completing the assemblage of original tracks is Soma's own Funk D' Void, bringing his unique brand of jacked up electronics with 808 Planet. Further to these, the label has commissioned contemporary artists to remix a special set of Soma classics, creating neoteric statements that will continue the legacy that Soma has established with the distinctiveness of each artist breathing a new sense of purpose into every interpretation. Ostgut's Kobosil brings Slam's 'Visions' into the prevailing drone-ebbed world, the veiled VRIL douses the timeless X Track by Percy X in his dubbed out demeanor and Jonas Kopp's EBM workout of another Slam classic, 'Stepback' creates the standpoint for the project: always forward, never back. In accompaniment, the Soma team decided it was necessary to match the unique musical sensibilities displayed with an artistic environment that clearly juxtaposed the ideas set forth in the project. This led to a collaboration with Scottish artist Kyle Irvine who is currently studying at Dundee's school of art, DJCAD. His highly detailed, powerful yet delicate illustration style is truly unique with elements of dark Japanese manga. Each design was handpicked by the Soma team especially for the box set, which features exclusive Soma 25 Logo stickers, a poster and illustrated vinyl sleeves. Each individual sleeve has its own story line with enigmatic characters including Lantern Man and Little Bo, who live in a dimension beyond our own. Look out for Kyle's designs on the Soma25 remix singles and forthcoming, limited editions clothing lines produced in conjunction with Forty Clothing Glasgow. This is Soma's future statement: We aim to shape, not anticipate.
