Recorded in a Bunker somewhere in the ancient basque region, Sagas of Subterranean life is a collection of 5 sagas that are heavily influenced by Scandinavian life and European culture in general. Showcasing a versatile collection of 5 bits that range from moving distorted house jams to synth blops and violating techno, ''NORSE'' is not just a collaboration between soul notes head honcho ''Kastil'' and Rotterdam based ''Gitchell Moore'', it's also a project that tends to avoid genre-restrictions and box thinking. Odd Sequences X Violating Drum Patterns X Palindrome Titles = Sagas of Subterranean life.

Seeking to sum up the sound of his burgeoning label, Mario Castillo pulls in a selection of artists to assist him in his Kastil guise. Soul Notes is a label clearly in love with a more vibe-laden kind of deep house, whether it comes in the form of a bumping garage shuffle as in Fulbert's "Untitled", or Kastil's own more aquatic excursion. The unifying atmosphere is a blue note one, coming out of dreamy chords steeped in the legacy of black music that permeate each of the tracks on offer. Look no further than the feel-good roll of Jefferson Belmondo's "Booty Groove" for an exercise in understated funk that knows how to pay its dues.

incl. Acronym RemixMadrid based artist ''Irazu'' has a couple of tricks up his sleeve. Apart from creating outlandish rhythms that are hard to pin down to one specific box in the spectrum of electronic music, Irazu also proves to have a strong visual and intellectual identity. With titles such as ''Tolerance for The Absurd'' and ''The Situationist Was Not Alone''to back this up, Irazu's first solo EP for the soul notes off-shoot ''Stale''is an intrusive blend of harsh tones, exotic drum patterns and firmly built repetitions of sound. Irazu's ability to camouflage certain sounds and make them cut through the mix with great strength is showcased in ''The Situationist Was Not Alone'', where the main lead sounds rather like a ship horn of some sort than an actual synth sound. The build of this opening effort is hypnotic, while the lead sound maintains a mantra-like repetition. ''Tolerance For The Absurd'' sounds like a lost jungle tribe travelling in the hold of a transatlantic fright vessel. It's exactly this need for abstract descriptions that describes the atmosphere of this cut best. Again, a mantra like repetitive tone makes one want to replay this again and again. For the B side ''Northern Electronics'' stalwart ''Acronym ''steps up with a charachteristic remix for ''Tolerance For The Absurd''. The artists ability to alter moods with minimal edits and smartly placed bits of sound is exactly what he is showcasing throughout this heart wrenching mix that spans for 7.36 minutes.''Corrosive Suddenly Breath'' is another Irazu original that subtly closes down this 12'' with great effort. Psychotic sounding bits of modular tones serve as a lead-like sound supported by a hazy tone that lieas underneath and a sucking bassline that feels like the cut is a vacuum of sound balancing smartly somewhere in between contemporary techno and industrial soundscaping.

French producer Julien Saillenfait (Deapmash) is delivering broad shouldered Textures and Sequences with attitude for the sophomore STALE output. From the Jump, the picture that the French producer is painting shows really vivid. Intrusing rhythms that pierce through ear canals and are nicely propped up by taints of distorting and peculiar vocal cuts. Whilst Blackout (A1) lays the foundation for the overal sound, things get more sturdy on the uncompromising follow up called ''Breakness'' severe drum hits alternate throughout the track in which noteworthy patterns pave the way for the B side. Bristolian ''Joefarr'' opens up the flipside with an ominous remix to ''Breakness'' which will leave any dancefloor bewildered for a while. Adventurous to say the least. Deapmash closes down ''Blackout'' with the drumtrack ''Hold''. Showcasing the already signature Deapmash sound, the french producer has shown that he is emerging an exciting sound with a fertile attitude.

In the ever continuing stream of Soul Notes releases. Labelowner Kastil is pleased to announce the new 'Stale' outfit. Stale by Soul Notes will purvey jagged sounds throughout the more adventurous sides of Techno. With a most appropiate title for the first track (The Beginning) , Kastil takes one to faraway lands through noteworthy drum patterns and animated synth work. The sophomore bit (Paroxetin) is reminiscent of hardware hymns somewhat in a Den Haag fashion. Unilluminated acid sword fights meet tragic pads that float throughout. Sheol (B1) is Kastil's menacing take on profound techno. Quirky percussion sequenced form a cohesive alliance with the again ominous synth work that subtly hovers on top. Markov (B2) is an advanced synth journey that shows the basque-county Wizard's present capabilities and thrives on rich emotive tones that travel through one's ear channel with great spirit. Incessant Siege is the first in the line of many on the newly founded Stale by Soul Notes imprint.

Hamsa Intenational are hitting us with some obscure and analog live jams for club use only. Rigid grooves that transform subtly by the use of frequency cuts and vocal chops make Bodytalk an interesting Lo-Fi sounding yet energetic Jam for peak hours and after. The analog warmth that's filling up the speaker cans comes straight out of old machines and a tape recorder.

Loskober aren't afraid of unorthodox production techniques and sound crafting. A strong dose of uber saturated sounds is smartly blended into a mix of squelchy 303 sounds and randomly placed crashed. Being just as straight forward as the Soul Notes imprint is considering itself, Loskober is balancing on the thin line between insanity and geniality. A place where producers are not likely to go for their first output.
