Release:2017 / US – Original
Genre:Rock / Indie
Sean Morales (bassist of JAmes Arthur's Manhunt and Ichi Ni San Shi) began writing the songs for Call it In while living alone in Houston, then started shaping the songs with wife and drummer, Erica Barton after moving back to Austin. Sean then reached out to Jonathan Horne—a brilliant Jazz-bent guitarist known for his work with Young Mothers, Ichi Ni San Shi, and KNEST—and other heavy friends from the Austin Rocknroll underground like Orville Neeley (Obn IIIs), Brian Schmitz (Golden Boys), and James Arthur to bring whatever they had on them at the time; be it laughter, Clubtails, or scorching guitar. Call it In is an occasion to celebrate the ease of life. It’s an inviting debut that calls you over for a sundown evening of bourbon on the porch and unfolds into unexpected conversational turns. There is an alien familiarity in this record that resembles a solo night drive through blabber and smoke to arrive at a familiar room to find that Alex Chilton, Wreckless Eric, and the members of Amon Duul are already in the house, waiting for Junior Kimbrough to play. It’s something that could have conceivably happened at some point, but it’s still a dream.

Rock music, when done right, will always take us into a netherworld that we never knew existed, but we always somehow felt was within ourselves. The cosmos of inescapable rhythm, in-your-face melody and words, all speak simple truths that perhaps we couldn’t speak for ourselves. Austin, TX trio SUSPIRIANS summons that netherworld with their sophomore album Ti Bon Ange. The album title is taken from a Haitian voodoo term that translates literally to “little good angel”—the part of one’s soul that holds one’s individuality and personal qualities, which leaves the body when sleeping so you can dream. It’s a title quite befitting of the experience listening to Ti Bon Ange, where listeners become immersed in sound. From the first notes of the album, throughout its 7-song, 40 minute duration it’s clear that Suspirians aim to deconstruct rock in a way that’s both psychedelic and mysterious. Guitarist/vocalist MARISA POOL, bassist/keyboardist STEPHANIE DEMOPULOS and drummer LISA CARMERON craft songs that shape-shift from part to part rather than follow traditional verse-chorus-verse structure. It’s a wall of guitars and subtle synth layers, vocals drenched in reverb and on the brink of feedback, powerful and open drumming that allows the songs to flow like molten lava without ever sounding lethargic. Points of reference bridge a wide array of psychedelic, punk and experimental sounds: Pylon, Sonic Youth, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Stooges first album, Frightwig, early Butthole Surfers, Roky Erickson & The Aliens, late 70s British post-punk and more.

Super Secret Records is proud to announce the vinyl release of John Wesley Coleman's new LP Greatest Hits. The title may be ironic since all of the songs have never been released, but the quality of the record continues and widens the path Coleman has taken in recent years. Still a member of the legendary garage rock band The Golden Boys, Coleman continues to explore other areas of his musical talents, song-writing, and collaborating ability on this latest offering, including a “true country” song written by Will Cope and refined by Coleman. Coleman also collaborated with Nick Allison of Church Shoes on the song “Television.” Another example of Coleman’s ever changing musical inspiration and style is the fact that the song “Portlandia” was crafted specifically for a couple in Oregon, and they love it so much they plan to play it at their upcoming wedding. Previous solo recordings by Coleman have received high praise and this album is also receiving strong support early reviews when it was released digitally in October 2015. A video was recently completed for the song “Tea and Sandwiches” (directed and produced by Andrew Campbell) and following true Wes Coleman style, was filmed entirely in his garage in one afternoon.
