“With Polysomn we emphasize psychedelic chaos. Each song creates their own reality, filled with surreal visions and ethereal soundscapes. “an Bat None” introduces the heavier side of the album. Its purpose is to be a wall of sonic bliss.” Formed in 2009 by four inner-space travellers from western Finland, Kairon; Irse! is a rare bird, near-impossible to classify. The Wire describes their music as a “viperous cocktail of space rock, Greg Lake-era King Crimson and free jazz”, and ever since their debut album, Ujubasajuba set Bandcamp buzzing in 2014, their records have been hidden classics of modern psych-rock for those in the know. It was their sophomore release, Ruination, in 2017 that established Kairon; Irse!’s place in the canon of Finnish genre-bending freakout fusion, bringing them widespread critical acclaim and a multitude of wild-eyed devotees to their astral-magic live-shows. Prog Magazine referred to their “propulsive storm of psych rock hiss’n’fizz”, and Kairon; Irse!’s carefully crafted song structures came to the fore on Ruination, flexing a newly-forged pop sensibility for reshaping past influences into a futuristic tour de force of consciousness expansion. The Guardian found their music “as invigorating as a dip in a Finnish lake”, with “a sense of the visionary and sublime”, featuring Kairon; Irse! as New Band Of The Week . Following a European tour in 2017, Kairon; Irse! set sails for a performance at Roadburn Festival 2018, securing their name in the heart of the underground as rising stars of psychedelic post-rock. As the new decade unfolds, Kairon; Irse! prepare to pour down their multicoloured dreams thru your cerebral cortex on their highly anticipated new 3rd album,Polysomn. A treasure-trove of glitching, elated sounds, that takes psychedelia into a new dimension, Polysomn brings to mind the melodic lightning of bands like Dungen, the chainsawing alternative guitar fuzz of My Bloody Valentine, the sparkle and dreamscape of Slowdive, and the technological envelope-pushing of Radiohead’s outsider works.

Genre:Soundtracks
Svart Records is proud to present the original soundtrack to the supernatural thriller series Requiem! Debuted by BBC One in the UK and Netflix globally, psychological horror series Requiem became an instant hit, not least because of it’s haunting, spine-tingling score. Conjured by award-winning composers Dominik Scherrer (The Missing, Ripper Street & Marple), and Natasha Khan of Bat For Lashes, Requiem is an eerie landscape of sharp, scraping cello, soothing harps and tense string sections. From the urban uncanny to folk horror, there is a distinct atmosphere in the fresh collaborative dynamic between the British-Swiss decorated grandmaster of unique television series soundtracks Scherrer, and the rising enigma of alt-pop, twice Mercury Music Prize-nominated singer/songwriter Khan. Of their alchemical and otherworldly creative chemistry, composer Dominik Scherrer recalls: “Natasha Khan and I spent some weeks in my studio in Brick Lane, coming up with themes and recording outlandish vocals and terrifying sounds. There is a cheeky element to the show, as well as a genuinely scary one. Together with a pastoral spookiness of the cello and strings themes started to give Requiem its own unique atmosphere. We experimented with deviant playing techniques and unconventional recording approaches, to complete a moody air of retro horror and pastoral spook.” Available for the first time on CD and LP, this highly celebrated “spooksome” score harkens back to the 1970s lo-fi soundtracks from BBC’s Radiophonic Workshop or 1970s horror soundtracks. Winning an Ivor Novello award for the “Best TV Soundtrack” in 2019, Requiem is a one of a kind treasure, now rightfully preserved and beautifully presented on lush vinyl and CD format by Svart Records. “Requiem promises much, not least in way of sound. Nominally just another spooksome BBC tingler – old castle in Wales, birds flying into windows, locked room, pagan symbols, creepy locals – it is rendered a whole cut above by not having the heroine’s every move into peril foreshadowed by dissonant eek-eek string” (The Guardian)

Release:2020 / EU – Original
Genre:Rock / Indie
First pressing of 500 copies on icy blue vinyl. Where Old World superstition meets the cold, gray reality of life in the former Soviet Bloc, there is “Romanian ice metal”. Conceived in rural Transylvania by a heavy metal enthusiast named Vladislav Bârladeanu, Persekutor follow in the great tradition of early rock-based black metal masters like Venom, Celtic Frost and Bathory, channeled through the vicious, unflinching efficiency of Ac/dc. The band’s first widely available recording was a seven-inch single entitled Power Frost, released in 2013 on now-defunct Magic Bullet Records. A pair of cassette demos followed—2014’s Arctic Cross and 2015’s Ice Wars—both released in severely limited quantities. On a visit to Los Angeles in 2015, Vlad was introduced to Lightning Swords Of Death guitarist Inverted Chris Velez, and the duo collaborated on a cover of Celtic Frost’s Procreation (Of The Wicked) for Morbid Tales! A Tribute To Celtic Frost, released later that year by Corpse Flower Records. In 2018, Vlad moved to Hollywood and recruited members of prominent underground musical entities to fulfill his purpose. Velez was retained on guitar, along with Saviours / Ides Of Gemini drummer Scott Batiste and Deth Crux / Ides Of Gemini bassist Adam Murray. The newly minted band made their American live debut in Los Angeles in September of that year, opening for Brazilian black-thrashers Power From Hell. The show ended in a stabbing and massive police presence. Two months later, Persekutor played the pre-party for Decibel magazine’s inaugural Los Angeles Metal & Beer Fest, alongside Armored Saint, Night Demon and Uada. The band’s next show was at a strip club in Hollywood, where the dancers—driven to a frenzy by the band’s animal magnetism—joined them onstage for maximum visual stimulation. In 2019, Persekutor entered Veracuda Studios in El Sereno to record their first proper full-length. The sessions were helmed by engineer extraordinaire Phil Vera, who also happens to be the guitarist for powerviolence legends Crom and Despise You—not to mention noted ale enthusiasts Trappist. The result is Permanent Winter, nine songs inspired by Carpathian survivalist tales, Transylvanian booze fighters and the ever-present threat of freezing to death. It is the uncompromising spirit of Eastern European black metal mainlined into the collapsed vein of greasy rock n’ roll. Consider yourself warned.

Extreme UK Progressive Doom Metal band Self Hypnosis, featuring members of Esoteric, set to to release their new album Contagion Of Despair on the 21st of August 2020 via Svart Records! Though Self Hypnosis are a new band, aficionados of the British Extreme Doom scene should need little introduction to the band members themselves. The project has its roots in Kris Clayton‘s long-standing, often-solo, Camel Of Doom outfit, which itself evolved from basic Stoner beginnings towards a much more avant-garde proposal, culminating with the release of fourth full-length album Terrestrial through renowned Russian label Solitude Productions in 2016. Following that, Kris began work on composing the next Camel Of Doom album, but quickly realised that the material was becoming even more experimental and eclectic than previous outings: so much so that it would be more appropriate to record it under a different name, making it clear that there should be no preconception, or historical expectation, attached to it.

Stunning synth-heavy prog rock from ex-Magma/Heldon/Dan Ar Braz member. Free-jazz elements mixed with rocking synth and piano and drums, the album is a wildly eclectic fusion of atmosphere and moods. Joined by a whole menagerie of the French prog crème de la crème, such as musicians like Patrick Gauthier, Clément Bailly, Guy Delacroix, Jean-Pierre Fouquey, Bruno Menny, Benoit was a free-wheeling synthesizer demon. A cosmic caper of multifaceted dimensions with some real Heldon-esque and Magma vibes peppered throughout. This album is every bit as entertaining and delightful as the day it was released, a stellar example of the diversity of the synth-driven prog of the age. Now dusted off and refreshed with liner notes to head into another future.

A Svart Mondo release. Black vinyl, 500 copies.
Alejandro Medina Y La Pesada was recorded in 1974 and is the only solo vinyl album released by Alejandro Medina. Born on 1 November 1949 in Buenos Aires, Medina had been in big bands since he was a young teenager, joining Le Pasada del Pock and Roll who included some of Argentina’s finest musicians, such as Billy Bond (who handles the production on this album), Jorge Pinchevsky (who plays Violin on this record) and Pappo, among others. Medina recorded four albums with Le Pasada del Pock and Roll who also played at the third Buenos Aires Rock Festival in November 1972, which was recorded in the movie ‘Rock until the sun goes down’. On this, his solo album, he mixes delta style blues, progressive rock and bluesy style experimental ballads that feature sublime guitar work. Eclectic hard-rock guitar journeys with lush violins and powerful vocals. A deep collectors bounty, Alejandro Medina Y La Pesada is a rare Argentinian heavy rock milestone. La Pesada (which means “The Heavy” in English) gives us a good idea of what to expect with this exceptional heavy jewel.

A Svart Mondo release. Black vinyl, 500 copies.
Cuero (which means Leather in English) was an Argentinean band formed by the high calibre lineup of Nacho Smilari (lead guitar, vocals) and Carlos Calabró (drums) after the short-lived hard-rock super-group Piel De Pueblo from Buenos Aires split up. Musicians who had been in some of the more well known Buenos Aires-based bands of the 70s, their output before Cuero had been as eclectic as it was prolific for their time. Featuring original compositions of guitar-driven progressive rock with emotive vocals, jazz-rock and dramatic blues instrumentals,Tiempo Después is a heavy rocking potpourri of the highest order. At times very experimental, Nacho’s guitar work is a true highlight of the album, with delightful skill and wide ranging passages. The instrumental “Tiempo después”, “Nuevamente el momento”, “No sé si voy a enloquecer”, the blues “Escucha mi voz”, and the long, winding psych rock of “Paula acurrucada en un color” are all standout tunes on an action-packed blues-fueled heavy rocking gem. Recommended album for those who know and like Piel de Pueblo, Montes, Rockal y la Cría and Pappo’s Blues, but a treat of rare Argentinian gold for anyone who knows the meaning of hard rock. Original vinyl versions of Tiempo Después are now very rare, so this reissue pulls it out of obscurity and back onto all good music freaks turntables.

A Svartronix product. Double vinyl, 300 copies.
NEMESIS is one of the pioneering acts in the Finnish electronic music scene, representing the more relaxed field of it. Their debut album Xcelsior first saw the daylight in CD form in 1994, and this band-approved double LP marks its vinyl debut.
Xcelsior already has all the elements which make the group’s music personal and recognizable. The music has layers on top of each other and side by side, where influences from various decades of electronic music play effortlessly amid modern digital technology and electronic beats.
Real and digitally created vintage analog machinery resonate warmth and soundscapes that arise from the collective memory of cosmic sound explorers create familiar hum in the background.
Stellar coordinates are correctly set as thick pulses of sound transport the cosmic ship towards the horizon in spiral movement, and from time time gravitation loses its grip of the vessel.
Xcelsior is electronic storytelling at its best: a mixture of pulsating modern electronic sounds, ambient, psychedelia, the progressive vision of synth pioneers of the seventies, celestial geometry and nebular hum.
