‘Absolute Presence‘ is about losing connection with the physical world and exploring a much deeper place in your mind. It’s about experiencing a significant transformative state from which one can either come back to the physical world, or fade into death. In this enhanced state of consciousness, one may feel entirely weightless, at peace, and removed from their physical body. It’s the feeling of all of existence hitting you at once, and distinct emotions and identifiable feelings fading into irrelevance. How does one approach their day to day life after such an experience? This is what ‘Absolute Presence‘ attempts to address.

Genre:Electronic / Dance
Originally released in 1990 on Doremix Records, Techno Bert was the studio project of Robert Passera and Stefano Cundari, co-owner of Memory Records and mastermind behind some italo disco classic names like Hipnosis, Koto, Faxe. Stefano Cundari unfortunately died of cancer on the same year of the release.Neue Dimensionen" was developed on Siouxsie & The Banshees's well-known guitar riff of 'Happy House', in a techno crescendo, where the duo would have enjoyed inserting as many samples as possible by stopping only when the capacity of the sampler Akai S1000 memory would be full. While Cundari cared for the sounds from the 48-channel analogue bench and assigned modular effects to the tracks, in studio there was also the musician Stefano Carrara who piloted the keyboards and the Notator installed on the Atari computer. The couple started the work by sampling the Human League "Being Boiled" groove, and built on harmony and melody inspired by Siouxsie & The Banshees with a Jupiter synth to which they added a low reinforcement obtained with a Roland TB-303. The drum set was based on Roland Tr-909 samples. The sample of the voice comes from "Herrmann Hiess Er" by Nina Hagen, cutting and pasting vocal fragments all around the track, from which they got the name 'Neue Dimensionen'. Even though it was distributed by Flying Records, only the most attentive clubs talked about Techno Bert single. Many discovered it the following year through the Belgian press on Target that circulated in almost all of Europe, or through the Spanish version of Spitfire.Even without big sales numbers and without any radio passage, the song continue to survive by virtue of a subtly underground connotation.

Lena Platonos is a Greek musician, pianist and music composer. Her debut solo album, ‘Μάσκες Ηλίου’ (‘Sun Masks’) was produced in 1984 and reissued by Dark Entries in 2016. The album featured experiments with different sounds and a new batch of electronic equipment, such as the Roland TR 808 drum machine and Yamaha C60 synthesizer. Lena narrates each song in deadpan fashion, skillfully reciting her surreal Greek poetry. Her lyrics deal with the futility of love, the gap of human relationships, consumerist alienation in the bourgeois lifestyle of the 1980s. We’ve recruited four of our favorite contemporary producers to remix their favorite tracks from ‘Sun Masks’. First up is “Lego” remixed by triple scorpio supernova Avalon Emerson, who is based in Berlin. Her remix morphs the track into a solid dancefloor twister. Next is “Lego” remixed by Lena Willikens, Cologne based DJ and resident at Salon Des Amateurs in Düsseldorf. She provides a deep and psychedelic journey through the darker shadows of the early night or morning. On the B-side is New Yorker and Firehouse Recordings boss Kim Ann Foxman remixing “Hoping By Shopping”. She transforms the spacey robotic vocoder track into a dynamic deep house workout, tough and dreamy all at once. Closing out the EP is a remix of “Wrong Love” by Berlin via Bucharest producer Borusiade aka Miruna Boruzescu. Enhancing the original melancholic piano ballad to a cosmic processional with poignant bass lines that build and recess like the ocean tides. All songs have been mastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. The jacket is a reinterpretation of the original ‘Sun Masks’ cover, isolating the photograph of Lena wearing sunglasses designed by Eloise Leigh. Each copy includes a two-sided postcard with a manipulated film still from one of Lena’s music videos.

Oxia's classic ‘Domino' gets reworked for it's ten year anniversary - in 2 vinyl parts. A decade after initially seeing the light, Oxia's now classic ‘Domino' get's reworked to celebrate it's anniversary. The new release features a new cut by Oxia himself as well as several remixes by none other than Frankey & Sandrino, Robag Wruhme and Matador. The EP will be released through Agoria's newly found record label Sapiens on February 24th. Ten years ago the track made waves in the international dance music circuit, striking up chords with techno, trance and house DJs alike to quickly become an all-time classic. Having never expected the track to reach the status that it his, it's a very dear project to Oxia and he needed quite some persuading to give in and let Agoria and his team create something that was worthy of the original. The set of tracks are the first officially commissioned remixes by Oxia ever. “Finding remixers took some time, the amazing Frankey & Sandrino who's track ‘Acamar' is my absolute favourite of 2015, Matador that just launched his Rukus label as well is the multi-talented ex label mate at Kompakt Robag Wruhme. They are all incredibly gifted and fortunately patient enough to wait for this EP”

Adding to previous 12“es on Ostgut Ton and his own RK label fellow Neuköllner and Berghain resident Kobosil offers four new uncompromising Techno club tools. While all cuts on the 105 release share filthy, stone-cold, elemental rhythms – pounding, energetic and hypnotic 4/4 kick drum slaps – the devil is, like with all Kobosil productions, in the aesthetic details. “40000 L” uses gargling synth patterns and howling horns to dramatic effect; “Bei Nacht H (178)” contrasts the kick with a harsh, tinny drumbeat and menacing melody pad, creating a nightmarish vibe.

For its 6th release, Bjarki and Johnny Chrome Silver’s bbbbbb Records welcome new signing EOD (aka Stian Gjevik) to their unholy alliance with his 'Swurlk EP'. The Norwegian born, strictly analog producer takes the label off-roading with four outstanding productions channeling ambient, electro and hard bloody techno.Having released on imprints including Rephlex and WeMe Records, it was actually on Soundcloud that Bjarki discovered EOD’s music. After getting in touch, the scale of his work emerged as gigabytes of unheard music dating back to 2002 were exchanged, all of which was made without the use of a PC - an approach which speaks for itself through his instinctive, playful melodies.'Swurlk EP' boasts an impeccable sense of arrangement, more like that of a composer, and even more impressive considering the absence of any computer. The title track opens with a velvety smooth synth melody building with bass textures. ‘Evenhark’ uses a broken beat framework to carry floating harmonies. ‘Swarm’ uses layer upon layer of stuttered percussion to build into a relentless techno cut. ‘ELCASET_TESTGROOVE’ pairs catchy, interacting melodies with pensive harmonies.‘Swurlk EP’ is a must listen for fans of melodic electro and an exciting move from a label that continues to challenge all our fucking expectations

When Perlon started releasing their "SuPERLONgevity" compilation series in 1999,it was not evident that the name, which had initially been chosen just for pun, would become a self-fulfilling prophecy. Now,Perlon is in its 20th year, indeed, and preparing the celebration of this anniversary, the label invites its listeners to enter the sixth round of illuminating expression, once more driven by playfulness and fluffy swingtime. This time, the journey extends to eight sides with no guidepost except maybe the order to set the controls for the heart of the potoo.18 tracks unfold their magic formulas to release a cascade of funky blobs. The collection reflects the label’s unique interpretation of sound and vision,of caring and sharing,of "glitches and itches"-by forward and froward thinking artists who set landmarks and break standards for the sake of the sound of the extraordinary. Here’s what you will find in this brand-new Perlon toy box that adds one more shade to the corporate colour scheme:House bubbles that sound like they come straight from a "Bällchenparadies".A motor drive with a sexy beat.Tribal dances, warped ballads, romantic fantasies.Heavy bass fundaments with aerial notes that hover above like helium balloons.A meditation machine, chilly chimes and future clockworks.Speaking things with nonsense as a foreign language.Rumouring moods and sparkling modes.Crime Jazz with a glitch.Bouncers, growlers, wobblers, and cuddly shuffles.

Following celebrated compilations from Motor City Drum Ensemble and Young Marco – and with the second edition of its limited-capacity festival in Croatia right around the corner – Dekmantel’s Selectors series now continues with an edition curated by Marcel Dettmann.Although he’s now known as one of the world’s most celebrated techno artists, even Marcel Dettmann had to start somewhere. Long before he ever held court at Berghain (or its predecessor, Ostgut), he was just another young boy in Eastern Germany, one whose earliest encounters with capitalism involved spending every penny he could scrape together down at the local record shop. In those days, it wasn’t techno that got him excited, but new wave, post-punk, industrial and EBM acts like Front 242 and Depeche Mode“It’s music from my childhood,” says Dettmann. “It’s still relevant and still inspires me.” That inspiration can be heard across this edition of the Selectors series, as Dettmann has put together what he describes as a “pre-techno compilation.” Much like the previous Selectors editions, the compilation is not a mix CD, but a collection of tracks hand picked by Dettmann from his own vinyl archives. Freshly remastered – and occasionally reworked or re-edited by Dettmann himself – the songs here are undoubtedly vintage gems, but they also represent a very personal journey into Dettmann’s past.“It was a great opportunity to dig deeper into my own musical outlook,” he explains. “The tracks come from a time before Marcel Dettmann became a DJ.” Simply put, the songs here are some of the building blocks upon which he’s built an incredibly storied career, and now he’d like to entrust them to future generations.

It’s basically a stronger, fitter version of his most prized LP, loaded with sounds as brutally functional as the city which birthed them, but redrawn with sharper edges and elbows for 2017 dancers and DJs.Originally recorded in September 1996 in Room 406, Digbeth, Birmingham aka Scorn’s studio - sandwiched between Tony De Vit and Broadcast’s recording spaces - Regis used 1 drum machine, 1 synth, and 1 FX unit to nail home a back-to-basics approach to techno; one inspired as much by the direct immediacy of Chicago house as the febrile DJ sets of Jeff Mills, but also drawing a crucial X factor from his background as a bit of hooligan, with form in a number of post-industrial, EBM and punk units. When Gymnastics first hit the ‘floor it was considered shocking anathema to the swell of manicured, proggy arrangements which were by then dominating the spotlight of British dance in clubs and the media. It was loopy, stripped to the bone and shark-eyed, always moving forward and without the faintest recourse to melody or harmony - simply revelling in the gnashing tension and swerve of raw, clattering drum machines and monophonic synth jabs. Big Beat or trance it fxcking well wasn’t.As a sound it was arguably responsible for a whole sub-genre’s worth of imitators who never quite reached its Kwik Save milk ailse levels of cold harsh reality, mainly thanks to Karl’s sly, kinky refusal of funk - doing it so dry that it actually came out so stiff it popped, just like Kraftwerk, but if they could only modulate one syllable in a Brummy accent. 21 years later its lip-biting force is now felt stronger than ever. From the grumbling refusal of We Said No and the austere wall-banger Allies that boot off the album, thru the 16th note nag of Translation to the rictus jag of Sand and The Black Freighter’s metallic bite, this is timeless, primal dance music that still causes friction wherever it’s deployed.James Brown is dead. Long live Regis.

Dig in....'Mystic' Bill Torres is a producer that we feel deserves more props! A Miami born, Chicago dwelling artist who's output has gained total cult status among lovers of that deep, narcotic, late-night groove that he has made his own.Bill's sound is everything that House music should be, it encapsulates the smoky after hours and throbbing dance-floors of darkened spaces where folks really get down. Fitting then, that a lot of Bill's music is seriously sought after by DJ's and dancers from all over, most of his records are at the top of the wants lists of House fanatics who truly understand the music. 'Classics from the vault vol.1' is one such record - Originally released on Cajmere's mighty Relief Records back in 1997 it wears it influences on it's sleeve proudly, track titles such as 'Late night at the music box' obviously reference where Bill's sound is coming from, but his style is completely original and crystallizes the energy and expression of Ron Hardy and Chicago's heady dance music history into something fresh and individual. In short, Mystic Bill is the shit and if you're not hip to his music you certainly will be once you get into this EP. 4 tracks of top shelf, late night weaponry right here - reissued with love and still sounding as fresh as it did on it's original release in '97! Take a 'Mind ride'!'Classics from the vault vol.1' has been legitimately re-released with the full involvement of Mystic Bill Torres for 2017 and remastered by London's Curve Pusher from the original DAT especially for Mint Condition. 100% legit, licensed and released. Remixes by The Mover, Peder Mannerfelt and Shifted Arcing Seas is back with ARCS-03; a unique EP of selected tracks from the first two releases, remixed by The Mover, Peder Mannerfelt and Shifted. First up, rave and techno legend The Mover presents his first new material since 2009. After using the slogan “See you in 2017″ for years before, this marks the start his return. He turns Trappist into a hard hitting electro workout using original parts that explode and punish the senses. Peder Mannerfelt introduces the B-side with his take on Skull Gun. Broken beats and exciting percus-sion sit atop deep kicks, disorientating quick fire samples and rapid snares, showing how versatile and on-point he is. Finally, Shifted is called into action with a signature deep-sonic soundscape. Rumbling kicks and high frequency textures occupy the sound field, alongside reverberating samples from Vultures, making it his own. Label info: Arcing Seas is an anagram of Cassegrain. It started out as a secret alias, releasing a couple EPs on Our Circula Sound. The secret was less well kept after the duo appeared at Berghain under this name. A year later, after deciding to start a label, it finally made sense to bring the two together.

Oliver Ho's Broken English Club project delivers 12 tracks of decayed electronics and metallic techno finding a very fitting home on Ron Morelli's L.I.E.S. imprint. TIP!Titled, "The english beach" the album is a sonic portrait of the strange and barren east coast town in england, called dungeness. Known as the only desert in the uk, abandoned buildings and wreckage litter the landscape. Overlooked by a nuclear power station, it feels lost in time.Created during time spent staying in a converted old fog singal building, situated right on the seashore of this desert landscape, this new album is the next step in the project, following the suburban hunting lp released on veronica vasicka's label cititrax.Exploring the empty concrete soul of this english beach, the Twisted metal ruins and crumbling buildings are drenched in dread and drip with a very english desolate romance. Dungeness is almost the physical manifestation of the broken english club sound. To compliment the album, oliver has compiled a book of Photographs of the area that also features burroughs inspired cut up word collages.

Genre:Electronic / Dance
These days, to leave even the briefest of imprints on the ever-increasingly saturated orbit of dance music can be considered a feat in itself. To make a lasting mark, however, one that manages to cut through the onslaught of new music and artist profiles on spotlight each day, is another accomplishment entirely. Cue Dauwd, the US-born, Wales-raised artist who’s been releasing music for nearly 6 years on such noted labels as Ghostly International and Kompakt, and whose debut album Theory of Colours is released via Ninja Tune imprint Technicolour Records. An integral member of the Berlin night and radio show African Acid Is The Future, Dauwd Al Hilali’s releases have been met with as much expectation as they have intrigue. Spending the last few years out of the limelight and in his Berlin studio, Dauwd’s music has continued to ripple through clubs as his singular, sometimes thrillingly uncertain process of experimentation has continued. Pulling inspiration from electronic music legends like Terry Riley, Raymond Scott, and the seminal Radiophonic Workshop period in the late 50’s and 60’s, Dauwd’s 2017 LP draws a unique line between influences as disparate as hazy Detroit house and early German Krautrock. A skilled musical engineer, Dauwd’s ability to balance between such sprawling genres is, paradoxically, an exercise in restriction, finding creative freedom in limiting his own gear. It’s clear he’s no stranger to focus; sonically, Theory of Colours runs tightly wound, its loops intentional and layers meticulously built. Spanning a succinct forty minutes across seven tracks, Dauwd’s fondness for delays and love for vintage synthesizers characterize much of the album, which was recorded over the course of a year primarily in the Utrecht based Sonar Traffic studio that houses one of the largest collections of vintage synths and other modular equipment in all of Europe. The result is an intricate, scintillating journey that hovers between familiar and strange. For many artists, that enigmatic gap is one that’s anxiously avoided-- the fear of misidentity as a musician more important than the music itself. Throughout Theory of Colours, it’s a space Dauwd comfortably renders as his own.

Cellular Automata approaches mathematical growth and decay as an iterative process, with each data input considered individually relative to the overall model. The result represents one of the group’s boldest creative endeavors, defying expectations while remaining unmistakably Dopplereffekt. Cellular Automata is the third Dopplereffekt release to come via Berlin’s Leisure System label, following 2013’s "Tetrahymena" and 2014’s "Hypnagogia".

For its seventh release, Rave Or Die proudly welcomes Irish superstar Sunil Sharpe. Hailing from Dublin, this producer and DJ has gain within a few years a solid reputation of merciless techno purveyor in Europe with uncompromising re-leases on structures such like On The Hoof, Sheworks, Black Sun Records, Trensmat, Mord, Inner Surface Music, Komisch, Bastardo Electrico, and many more. Half of the Tinfoil duo along with DeFekt offers to the French Rave label a great slab of bastard-heavy material in his typical signature: hard and fast “Loose (Burn Down)” supported by metallic sorities and ruff modulations over a pounding bass line in a pure, raw style. On the flipside, ROD mastermind Umwelt (Boidae, Shipwrec, New Flesh Records) serves up another milestone of a cabalistic anthem dedicated to industrial ware-houses: mechanic “Slave To The Rave” signs an ode to the dancefloor thanks to its implacable and hammering beat. Harder, faster, higher seems to be the motto of Rave Or Die seventh chapter! Rush on it.

Genre:Electronic / Dance
DJ Bone is Differ-Ent.But then again, he always has been. A pioneer DJ and producer hailing from Detroit, whose technical skills are perhaps only equalled by the upper echelons of the city's most advanced techno trailblazers, he's nonetheless forged a path only of his own. Eschewing commercial expectations, scene pressures and anything other than his own exquisite taste, Bone has earned a vital, dedicated audience while remaining comfortably and individually underground.Despite his stellar reputation, Bone's recent studio activities have steered him towards a new, altogether more personal direction. In late 2015, Differ-Ent's arrival on Don't Be Afraid with the 'Differ-Ent(Hrall)' EP paved the way for its follow-up, 'M.O.M.:' both were forceful slabs of psychedelic outsider techno, with the latter taking on a tangible emotional resonance as it honoured the memory of Bone's late mother. 'M.O.M.' quickly became one of the label's best celebrated and widely played releases. Bone, typically self-sufficient and known to turn down remixes for huge clubbing brands, was impressed by the Bristol label's honesty and persistence. As he continued to rock parties internationally, Bone set to work on an LP embracing his deeper, darker and more cerebral side. Not that 'It's Good To Be Differ-Ent has found Bone veering away from the dancefloor. "It's like, the natural vibe for me is always going to be funky", admits Bone. "It's going to swing, it's going to have that element of soul. But the Differ-Ent vibe is almost angrier. Determined, perhaps is a better word. I would typically just go to the studio when I had an idea. To the point where I say, 'OK, I'm going to do something, I'm going to make it happen.' But the process for Differ-Ent...it's kinda methodical. It's borderline predictable. But the thing that makes it Different is that it could go any which way at any given time. And it can be harder edged usually, or it can go in a soundtrack direction."Film plays a significant influence on the landscape of Differ-Ent, with the record's more melodic flourishes sometimes designed to evoke the doubtlessly imaginative chase sequences swimming around Bone's mind. If Bone's usual movements are 'Do The Right Thing', his Spike Lee joint, then in his own words, 'It's Good To Be Differ-Ent' is his tribute to Paul Verhoven's 'RoboCop'."The only way I think the album evolved differently was the electro stuff", recalls Bone. "I was excited about that. Because that was a different type of electro as well. It wasn't a normal, 80s funk kinda electro. It completely separates you. It's still for the dancefloor, but it's almost as if it shakes you to dance, rather than coaxes you."'It's Good To Be Differ-Ent' certainly feels powerful, mastering a mix of Drexicyan tones and drums that align more with a newer wave of house and techno experimentalists. Many of these, from Hodge to Ø/Phase, have been an influence on Differ-Ent, all sharing what Bone describes as a unique affinity with "creepy shit." It's his thunderous, occasionally paranoid but overwhelmingly positive contribution to a forward thinking European scene he has come to relate to on a par with his native Detroit.

Makam returns to Dekmantel Records with his first full-length album for the Amsterdam based label. Guy Blanken’s ongoing search for fresh sounds, textures and rhythms has lead him to “Than Sadet”, a gorgeous piece of work that takes his sound into new directions. “Than Sadet” displays a refinement of Makam’s sound. The music is highly tactile, with an emphasis on the surroundings of the environment in which it was created. Blanken: ‘‘Than Sadet is a secluded beach on an island in Thailand. A mysterious atmosphere haunts it. It’s windy and the weather is always a bit worse compared to the rest of the isle. There are many cliffs and you can’t swim because the waves are too high. Four years ago I visited Than Sadet for the first time and I’ve been coming back ever since. At one point I decided to bring my studio equipment. For a week, I dedicated my days to making music. Those sketches formed the basis of the album.’’ The inspiration on Than Sadet is obvious. From billowing percussion thru windswept strings to passages of strange bird calls, and across desolate tracts of calving synthesizers to a climax with a finale of petrifying thunder drums. The levels of dramatic suspense are ski-high, and mostly downbeat and mid-tempo grooves operate beyond the dancefloor.

"I don't need a home, only a studio", she confirms. Recorded in a period when Inga lived between Cologne and Rotterdam, home to the famed Clone Records shop (hence the title), the music on this EP is inspired both by the emptiness you suffer in futile non-places such as airports and the chasm you experiment in majestic scenarios as a Russian forest. Both by solitary travels and first encounters with machines you always wanted to touch like an 808. Six tracks constructed with razor-sharp drum-machines, penetrating synth sequences and estranged vocals. Raw sounds that capture the type of clairvoyance that one can only feel when in transit, far from the chains of our comfort zones. From Cologne To Clone is much more than a train journey. It's an introspective voyage to a beautifully warped soul. A reminder that, in fact, sometimes you only need your self-expression to feel at home.

Senso Sounds drop a major release from techno heavyweight Dubfire and label boss Oliver Huntemann. Reuniting the partnership that has seen a string of seminal releases over the years in the form of their ‘Elements’ series, ‘Humano’ is the 2nd part of a continuation of this series - more weapons of grade dance-floor material from the high profile duo. Later on this year their partnership will be summarized in their ‘Restrospectivo’ album. Former Deep Dish man Dubfire’s uncanny knowledge of how to create epic dance-floor moments is in full effect, combined with Huntemann’s precision tool production techniques on the original version of the title track. The result is a super tough, tight and incalculably driving slice of techno goodness that will ignite floors worldwide. The rest of the EP manages to maintain the pressure - with a set of sick remixes from Victor Ruiz, Hatzler and Shaded. Ruiz, the Brazilian techno pioneer adds another level of fire to the original, tweaking and refining the track into a damager that pushes everything to 11 and hits home with every play. Hatzler, the Hamburg based German DJ/producer chooses a different direction - emphasizing more of the space in the original. Rinsing the tension to the next level, look out for the epic middle section break down. The whole package is primed to destroy clubs far and wide - techno at its most effective. Shaded’s Summer Skin remix also delivers a tightly wound interpretation, with a bubbling bass line and nervous, excited groove providing the fuel for an extended dancefloor excursion.

Debuting on Kompakt with a masterfully twisted remix of Gui Boratto's "Take Control" (KOMPAKT 302) in 2014, Miami-based DJ/Producer DANNY DAZE had already made himself a name with outings on tastemaking labels like Maceo Plex's Ellum Audio, Ultramajic or Miami's very own Omnidisc - but it was the raw and muscular SPEICHER 80 that really opened up our receptors.

Frak are Björn Isgren, Johan Sturesson and Jan Svensson, a trio of synthesizer lovers from Sweden. The band was formed when Svensson and Isgren’s older sisters were best friends and they introduced their little brothers to each other. Inspired by Severed Heads, DAF, Human League, Devo, Skinny Puppy, the boys began collecting analog equipment and started Studio Styrka. While the band were still in their early teens they released the first FRAK cassette album in 1987 on their own record label Börft. Almost 30 years later, FRAK continue to release their bizarre brand of Scandinavian techno with their debut release on Dark Entries. “Sudden Haircut” was recorded in 2015, a ten-minute brooding, heavy hitting acid attack full of 808 drum claps aimed at the dance floor. The three remaining songs come from a studio tape the band found in their archives named 'FRAK "After The Silence" 2001-2010' “Synthgök” and “Synthfrilla” were recorded in 2010 and originally released on the ‘Börft’ EP by Sex Tag Mania in 2012. Utilizing a 808, 303, 101 and MS-10, both are supreme cuts of electro leaning acid techno that perfectly fit the sweatiest moments of any club land experience. The deliciously rugged final track “First Glimt I Ögat” is a vintage unreleased Frak song from 2001 recorded one month before the track “Second Coming” (later released as B1 on ‘Börft’ EP). All songs have been mastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. Designer Eloise Leigh has created a playful DIY jacket based on a mysterious black and white photo of the band in their classic tin foil masks. Each copy comes with a black and white postcard featuring a distorted back stage photo of Frak in their teens.

Next up on Greek label Lower Parts is a fierce EP from the one and only DJ Stingray, who serves up one of his strongest releases in a while and, at the same time, marks his comeback with a bang. Featuring a remix by Athens talent Kon001, who Stingray has been meaning to release for years and who got personally handpicked by him for this assignment, the EP’s titles tell us of the Detroit man’s interest in science, biology and evolution and covers plenty of musical styles. Stingray has won plenty of acclaim with serious releases on labels like Naked Lunch, Bleep and Itinerant Dub. He wastes no time here in nailing down a nervy techno groove on ‘Acetylcholine’, with its hurried kicks, electro synths and slithering bass lines all racing along as you do the same. Dendrite is then a half time, lurching number with serious dub weight and serene synths that manages to be beautiful and brutal at the same time. On the flip, ‘eRbB4’ is a slick, journeying bit of electro-techno with real soul and emotion in its bones, before kon001 does Stingray proud with a dynamic, spangled remix that is metallic and reflective, groovy and evocative. This is a killer release from Stingray and is yet another fine offering from Lower Parts.

Dominick Fenrow’s Vatican Shadow returns with a new doublepack for his own Hospital Productions imprint following on from the recent Rubbish Of The Floodwaters 12” for Ostgut Ton. ‘Luxor Necropolitics” was once again produced by Joshua Eustis of Telefon Tel Aviv, and the vinyl edition also includes a super rare remix from Female of Sandwell District fame.Clocking in at almost 40 minutes, this is the most substantial Vatican Shadow release since last year’s Media In The Service of Terror LP and further develops Fernow’s creative collaboration with Eustis, who provides a much more lean and dynamic sheen to those highly atmospheric foundations. The opening, title track provides evocative exposition; this is Vatican Shadow at it’s most cinematic and unreal; before Intel War jolts with increased propulsion and bass pressure and a killer soundsystem focus deployed with precision and depth.Crown Prince Hamza is much more squashed and feral, before a new Red Headband version of More Of The Same takes the original into even more anthemic terrain; this is surely the most memorable, enduring and club focused Vatican Shadow track of all?As if to further etch it on your mind, the vinyl edition offers a final exclusive track, a reworking of More of the Same from Female, who takes the original and duffs it up, completely discarding that synth hook and instead intensifying the menace, heading down a sandwell-shaped cave that reminds us again why we have loved pretty much every Female production since we first heard his work almost exactly 20 years ago.

Celebrating Osiris’ 50th release in two parts, label head Simon Shreeve unveils ‘Deep Summer’ as the first: a downtempo, vocal-led track with a pace and laid-back vibe not usually associated with his Mønic alias. On the B side, a remix from none other than Burial offers a distinctly smokier take on the track, full of percussive melodies that weave into surprisingly major-chord territory towards the end of the song’s ten minutes. This is a release that sees both artists pushing their respective music’s preconceptions.

Parrish Smith has quietly been making a name for himself over these last years with releases on Knekelhuis and Contort Yourself as well as with his projects Volition Immanent and Sige Bythos. We see him appear on L.I.E.S. in a strong fashion through four varied dense tracks. From slowbeat EBM to Belgium klang to classic Den Hague crushers this ep forges its own path taking these cues and putting Smith's unqiue spin on them. Heavy yet still possessing groove and hypnotic rhythm, damage will ensue if used correctly. Fresh stuff from this up and coming talent.

Bjarki leads a pack of international artists who in the past few years have taken a hauntological approach to re-moulding the scents of breakbeat, rave, jungle, trance and IDM into sounds that are entirely their own. Already this year he began his own label bbbbbb with artistic sparring partner Johnny Chrome Silver, released under new alias Cucumb45, performed his new live show at clubs and festivals from Mutek ES and Peacock to Printworks, and recently announced a US tour for July.TRP015 finds Bjarki in typical, monstrous, floor slaying form with four trance leaning tracks that have proved an inspiration for Nina Kraviz’s DJ sets over the past year. Bjarki takes key aspects of trance and takes it for a headspin into the unknown - mangled percussion, disorienting voices, unravelling textural layers, sub aquatic bass frequencies and intense melodies. All make for a uniquely irreverent take on a much maligned genre that most of us secretly adore..

From the Italian DUB duo Babe Roots comes the group’s third vinyl release since their debut 7” last year on the Sardinian ROHS imprint which sold out in record time. Like the A-side’s artwork suggests (a photo of the Major League Baseball pitcher Doc Ellis famous for pitching a ‘no-hitter’ while on LSD), this record will take the listener on a trip. In classic Babe Roots fashion, each song was carefully crafted using traditional Jamaican dub techniques, blending 90’s Chain Reaction / Basic Channel atmospheres and UK trip-hop elements. Spiritual Connection / Brown Walls aims to be their strongest release yet. US-based label Visceral Vibrations teams up with Big Horn Sound (a sound system out of Las Vegas, NV) to provide a record worthy of any dub-head’s collection, presented on 12” vinyl and professionally mastered by Beau Thomas at TenEightSeven.
