Funkadelic were the most influential group to emerge from Detroit in the 1970s. Their early albums have cast a long shadow over everything that came afterwards in the city. It was music that understood the past but was firmly aiming towards the future and mixed soul, funk and rock into an almost unimaginable stew. Albums such as “Maggot Brain”, “Free Your Mind And Your Ass Will Follow” and “Cosmic Slop” are regularly featured in all-time greatest lists. From the techno pioneered by the likes of Carl Craig and Underground Resistance, to the garage rock revival spearheaded by the White Stripes and the Dirtbombs, all have paid homage to the Parliafunkadelicment Thang. This album is a tribute from some of the most important recording artists currently working in the city to these most influential of forefathers. The very finest talent now active in Detroit appear on the record, being given free rein to work on the multi-track tapes, to rework in any way they see fit. We have full-on remixes, futuristic creations using the original track as an inspiration, disco-fied re-edits and skeletal dubs. Spearheaded by Brendan Gillen of Interdimensional Transmissions, the set features names working across the musical spectrum. There is an appearance by those most mysterious of techno pioneers Underground Resistance, and by Kenny Dixon Jr and his alter-ego Moodymann. The Dirtbombs throw down a frenetic take on ‘Super Stupid’, whilst disco re-edit expert Gaye Marvine adds his magic to ‘Undisco Kidd’. Other contributors include Funkadelic alumni Amp Fiddler, Marcellus Pittman and Anthony Shake Shakir. This is a worthy celebration by New Detroit of its most twisted and illustrious forebears.

‘Absolute Presence‘ is about losing connection with the physical world and exploring a much deeper place in your mind. It’s about experiencing a significant transformative state from which one can either come back to the physical world, or fade into death. In this enhanced state of consciousness, one may feel entirely weightless, at peace, and removed from their physical body. It’s the feeling of all of existence hitting you at once, and distinct emotions and identifiable feelings fading into irrelevance. How does one approach their day to day life after such an experience? This is what ‘Absolute Presence‘ attempts to address.

Trelik returns with a repackaged edition of one of the catalogue's most treasured releases. "Overcome" and "Lady Science (NYC Sunrise)" need little introduction, and now come sporting the new TR11:11 matrix number. Written and produced by Thomas Melchior and Baby Ford aka Soul Capsule, these tracks came from one of the many sessions recorded at the West London Ifach Studio in 1999. On the A Side "Overcome" is stripped back and energetic, driven by rolling and shuffling garage style beats, tight bubbling bass and atmospheric synth pads. The intermittent vocal samples and the release's signature organ set you up for the flip, "Lady Science (NYC Sunrise)". Possibly one of house music's most emotive pieces, the track builds slowly with the introduction of each part building a story of soulful optimism based around a sparse palette of deep synths, uplifting keys and warm analogue bass. The understated beauty of the main vocal riff never seems to grow old or tired with the track lending itself perfectly to either main room, peak-time play or after-hours sessions alike. Remastered by Rashad at D & M.

Genre:Electronic / Dance
Dominick Fenrow’s Vatican Shadow returns with a new doublepack for his own Hospital Productions imprint following on from the recent Rubbish Of The Floodwaters 12” for Ostgut Ton. ‘Luxor Necropolitics” was once again produced by Joshua Eustis of Telefon Tel Aviv, and the vinyl edition also includes a super rare remix from Female of Sandwell District fame.Clocking in at almost 40 minutes, this is the most substantial Vatican Shadow release since last year’s Media In The Service of Terror LP and further develops Fernow’s creative collaboration with Eustis, who provides a much more lean and dynamic sheen to those highly atmospheric foundations. The opening, title track provides evocative exposition; this is Vatican Shadow at it’s most cinematic and unreal; before Intel War jolts with increased propulsion and bass pressure and a killer soundsystem focus deployed with precision and depth.Crown Prince Hamza is much more squashed and feral, before a new Red Headband version of More Of The Same takes the original into even more anthemic terrain; this is surely the most memorable, enduring and club focused Vatican Shadow track of all?As if to further etch it on your mind, the vinyl edition offers a final exclusive track, a reworking of More of the Same from Female, who takes the original and duffs it up, completely discarding that synth hook and instead intensifying the menace, heading down a sandwell-shaped cave that reminds us again why we have loved pretty much every Female production since we first heard his work almost exactly 20 years ago.

German duo Obscure Shape & SHDW drop three robust Techno tracks in their first full release on Rekids this May.One of the most exciting acts in Techno today, Obscure Shape & SHDW are the founders of From Another Mind - the label and party series making waves in South-Germany. Aside from Rekids, where they remixed Radio Slave’s ‘Vision’ last year, the pair’s abilities in the studio have seen them invited by Slam for two separate remixes of Monoloc and Envoy on Soma, with more projects to be announced.‘Himmel Und Erde’ is a cavernous cut boasting colossal kicks and skipping percussion before a tantalising melody comes into play. ‘Am Ende Der Welt’ is more deep and atmospheric in comparison, blending dusky percussion with echoing synths until ‘Gefallene Engel’ demonstrates syncopated drums and an otherworldly hook that conjure up a mesmerising aesthetic to conclude the release.

Hot on the heels of their role on Correspondant Compilation Five, Mexican maestros Zombies In Miami return to Jennifer Cardini's label once again this summer with two supreme space-aged head jams. Following recent disco excursions on Hippie Dance and Bordello A Parigi, the duo retreat to the shadier, heavyweight side of their signature with ‘Take Control' and ‘Last Gun'. ‘Take Control' is a glacial creeper laced with frosty electroid synths and a smouldering hypnotic beat while ‘Last Gun' firms our focus on the looming lower tones, creating an ominous fog for the sunlight arpeggios to climb through evocatively. Complete with on-point remixes from the Lipsky brothers' Simple Symmetry and Benedikt Frey & Nadia D'Alo's INIT project, this will have you taking control for a long time to come.

Since his last appearance on Hemlock (2015's double EP HEK025) Hodge has produced a seemingly effortless sequence of celebrated EPs and collaborations for Livity Sound, Berceuse Heroique and No Corner. Equally comfortable squaring up with heavyweights such as Randomer and Peder Mannerfelt as he is maintaining a prolific solo production output; Hodge has cemented himself as a leading voice in UK dance music and a champion of the elusive sweet spot where functional techno resonates with soundsystem culture. One for the Hemlock fans who have been patiently tolerating this year's more experimental cuts. 'Swing for the Fences' is straight down to business getting the kicks in below one of those ear-wormer percussive atonal toplines Hodge does so well… the drop is one of the heaviest we've heard this year and tipped to raise some fingers, open mouths and spill drinks across dancefloors and TV studios worldwide.Less pool cue more pool party 'Aomame' is a breezy melodic (patio) heater powered by tough drums and intricate percussive work. Arranged for both the dancers and the heads it freely refreshes and translates the main theme with a precision and playfulness that few producers can match.'Medway' will warm up or cool out the dance with big room sirens and some rude detuned drum work. Still no messing about on the B2: It's a Hodge thing all the way.

For this very special 12" the veteran audio alchemist conjures up five tracks of machine music magic. Squirming, acid soaked electro forms and melts in "Bush Baby Bug Eyes" before the shapeshifting "EQShift Trak." "Language Reponse" goes up a gear, rhythms zipping along on a highway of bright bars as synth lines beam warmth. The flip skids into the corners for the chiptune freshness of "Irrational Momentum" before the wave funk wizardry of the title piece. Ed Upton cracking open the champagne for this Shipwrec milestone and once again proving his undeniable prowess behind the machines.

Mint Condition - A brand new record label focussed on excavating the outer fringes of classic House and Techno. Unreleased mixes, classics and overlooked gems mined from the last 20+ of contemporary dance music are the order of the day. From Chicago, Detroit and New York to London and beyond, Mint Condition have got their expert digging hats on to bring you exclusive heat and those rarer than rare jams that have been on your wants list for years! Dig in....Detroit's Keith Tucker is a man of many names, the man behind AUX-88, Alien FM, DJ K-1, Optic Nerve and more. If you have even a vague interest in the Motor City's electronic output of the last 20+ years his name will be instantly recognisable as someone who turns out the highest calibre Electro and Techno jams, the type of records that look towards the future for inspiration, existing in the subterranea and sharing the same artistic vision of artists like Juan Atkins Drexciya, Erik Travis, Shake, DJ Stingray and many more. Originally released on Scottish imprint Seventh Sign recordings in 2005 'Detroit Saved My Soul' is a modern classic. It features all the hallmarks of classic 313 Techno and Electro which is to be expected with Tucker behind the boards. First cut 'It's A Mood (Detroit Saved My Soul)' is minimalism done right - stripped back drums with minor synth stabs punctuating flurries of vocoders and KT's voice describing the D as he sees it to us via the medium of music. Killer stuff. 'Elektronik' is up next, almost classically A-U-X sounding, pure Electro beats for the heads. Fast paced machine Funk from 50 years time beamed back to 2017 to tell us what's really up. Oh, watch that bassline, you could get into trouble. Finishing the EP we are treated to 'My Mental State', a slower paced, psychedelic Electro cut with killer drums and rim-shots featuring, again, KT's vox weaving in and out of the mix asking 'where are you, what are you doing?'. Absolutely essential tracks from a modern day Techno legend. Essential stuff.'Detroit Saved My Soul' has been legitimately re-released with the full involvement of Keith Tucker / Seventh Sign recordings for 2017 and remastered by London's Curve Pusher from the original sources especially for Mint Condition. 100% legit, licensed and released. Dug, remastered, repackaged and brought to you by the caring folks at your new favourite reissue label - Mint Condition!

Once a cathedral, now a mall, Limelight was last in the line of Manhattan clubs whose lineage could be traced back to New York’s fertile club era of the ‘70s and ‘80s, which included the East Village punk and no wave scenes, the Mudd Club, Danceteria and the Paradise Garage. It’s connected to a storied New York history – sometimes holy, sometimes notorious. It’s the last era of mob influence. The spirit of Andy Warhol’s Factory still alive in each club kid’s self-made costume. “A lot of things that were worlds apart met in that deconsecrated Episcopal church,” recalls David Sumner. “I used to practically live in that club, going two or three nights a week for years. I knew this was what I was going to do with the rest of my life.”In many ways Limelight was America’s rave
incubator. On a New Music Seminar night in July
of 1992, the revolution was about to take hold.
“Walking in, I didn’t know what was going on.
Then I started to see xeroxed Underground
Resistance 8 1/2 x 11s all around the club, like the
kind of inserts that came inside their EPs,” Dave
recalls. He would go on to see Mike Banks, Rob “Noise” Hood, and Jeff Mills perform for an electrified crowd as UR. “That night straight up changed my life.” Jeff Mills held his first residency at Lord Michael’s Future Shock, Friday nights at Limelight, and you can feel the seeds of influence in Function’s sound. In fact it sometimes feels like he’s imagining the DJ booth at Limelight in his own productions; a place where you could find Beltram, Adam X, Program 2, Damon Wild, Patrick Pulsinger, Abe Duque, and even DJ Hell. “The first time I heard Jeff Mills play ‘Der Klang Der Familie’ there I cried. I was totally captivated.” 251 West 30th Street With the burning desire to make music, Dave got a job at the best gear store in the city, Rogue Music. Rogue was then located on the 10th floor of The Music Building. He was able to rent a loft on the 15th floor of the building above the practice studios, with panoramic views of Madison Square Garden on one side, and the Empire State on the other. Even living this close to work, he still managed to get fired for being late. At the store he worked with Dennis Ferrer, who helped Damon Wild with Synewave, where Dave would release his debut record. He recalls watching Dennis meet Kerri Chandler, and receiving KRS-One’s SP-1200, taking it back to the work bench and saying to his friend “this machine is BDP!” Shortly after, a chance meeting would alter the trajectory of his life. The New Brunswick, New Jersey store Planet X had asked Sumner to host Karl O’Connor, who was set to play in Philadelphia as Regis. Karl had come to town with two of his best friends he’d grown up with, Richard Harvey and Peter Sutton. They all became fast friends, bonding quickly over music and jamming endlessly in his 15th floor loft overlooking the city. Out of these sessions a new collaboration between Karl and Dave would take form, Portion Reform. This would become Sandwell version one. Dave became the first American on the legendary Birmingham, UK- based Downwards label, on a roster with Regis and Surgeon, eventually becoming the Downwards tour DJ. Towers of Influence “The two DJs that made the greatest impact on me are Jeff Mills and Adam X. The first time I saw Adam play he had his hood up over his head, playing a Storm Rave at 5 in the morning, opening with Mike Dunn’s ‘The Pressure Cooker.’” Dave regularly frequented Groove Records out in Bensonhurst, and later when they opened in Manhattan as Sonic Groove. He describes the experience as “the Brooklyn version of intimidating, not the Kreuzberg version,” calling Sonic Groove the Hard Wax of New York. New York itself is a major influence for Dave, as is its history of clubs – from discos and house music, to techno and raves. Think of Todd Terry’s 1988 Black Riot record or Boyd Jarvis’ 1983 release ‘The Music Got Me’ as milestones on this journey. “It’s a DJ’s approach to music. I remember in the early ‘90s when the music was changing so rapidly and it felt so revolutionary, separating my records into piles and thinking ‘I need more of this – there needs to be more of this kind of record.’” It’s passion that drives this story of a life in music, and it’s a desire to blow your mind the same way his inspirations blew his. Function is always innovating and finding new ways to connect the dots, to continually pursue the art of storytelling through giant slabs of sound. Words by Brendan M. Gillen, Interdimensional Transmissions, Detroit, 2017.

Rodhad’s debut album ‘Anxious’ sees the artist step away from the dancefloor and further develop the narrative qualities of his beautiful soundscapes. It was the natural next step to present the sound he began cultivating with his recent EPs “Kinder der Ringwelt” and “Söhne der Erde” as a full length LP. The experience the album is trying to convey is being thrown into a world that is ready to crush you. They have you with your back to the wall, and you are ready to give way to despair. Will you be able fight back? How is it even possible? Rodhad is the spearhead of a new generation of techno producers and DJs. With his bass heavy grooves and dubby atmospheric soundscapes he is a sonic guide, knowing exactly where he wants to take the crowd, leading through the inexhaustible sounds of techno music in all its beauty and gloom. He fully immerses himself into the music, yet never loses himself. Growing up in Berlin’s rougher outskirts, as a teenager he was able to grasp the final flashings of Berlin’s mythical nightlife of the 1990s at legendary places Casino and Ostgut. In the late 2000s the Dystopian crew began their own series of parties and then the label with two seminal releases by Rodhad, “1984” and “Blindness”.

Pessimist makes drum'n'bass work as techno by combining themonotone, infinite-horizon quality of the latter with therhythmic swerve and soundsystem heft of the former. At timesthis music feels like the missing link between British MurderBoys and Source Direct, or what might have happened if late'90s UK junglists had listened more closely to Chain Reaction.

For its seventh release, Rave Or Die proudly welcomes Irish superstar Sunil Sharpe. Hailing from Dublin, this producer and DJ has gain within a few years a solid reputation of merciless techno purveyor in Europe with uncompromising re-leases on structures such like On The Hoof, Sheworks, Black Sun Records, Trensmat, Mord, Inner Surface Music, Komisch, Bastardo Electrico, and many more. Half of the Tinfoil duo along with DeFekt offers to the French Rave label a great slab of bastard-heavy material in his typical signature: hard and fast “Loose (Burn Down)” supported by metallic sorities and ruff modulations over a pounding bass line in a pure, raw style. On the flipside, ROD mastermind Umwelt (Boidae, Shipwrec, New Flesh Records) serves up another milestone of a cabalistic anthem dedicated to industrial ware-houses: mechanic “Slave To The Rave” signs an ode to the dancefloor thanks to its implacable and hammering beat. Harder, faster, higher seems to be the motto of Rave Or Die seventh chapter! Rush on it.

Uwe Schmidt has long been recognized as one of electronic music’s most respected and versatile artists. A man of many talents, projects and identities including Atom Heart and Señor Coconut, Uwe’s playfully ironic and acid- tinged Atom™ moniker is perhaps the identity that most speaks to the New York dancefloors where The Bunker makes its home. Several Atom™ releases are much-loved Bunker classics and with the Future Nights 12” Uwe offers a heady experiment in what happens when a track takes you so far inside your own head that you’re in danger of losing your way back. The A side is comprised of two fuzzy vocaltechno tracks that are as fun to listen to as they will be to subject to some heavy tweaking in the hands of a capable DJ. The B side, “Chemistry” is particularly versatile and crazy-making with elements of darker techno stirred into a disorientingly stereophonic maelstrom that’s guaranteed to cause a dancefloor to lose its moorings until the only thing keeping reality from splintering is the track’s dry academic vocal reassuring us that it’s all just chemistry.

Dark Entries and Serendip Lab have teamed up to release ‘Prototech’, the first vinyl retrospective by German electronic trio Hypnobeat, recorded 1984-86. James Dean Brown and Pietro Insipido formed Hypnobeat in 1983, but it was the addition of Victor Sol only a few months later that found the project reaching, as Brown puts it, "the desired level of technical sophistication." In time, Tobias Freund also lent his talents (and equipment) to this loose-fit sonic scheme, where the protagonists sought a new, electronic manifestation of mankind’s tribal music roots. Two cassette releases surfaced – 1985’s "Huggables", and "Specials/Spatials" the following year. By this point the Frankfurt-based group had already explored fiercely mechanical creative expression through various configurations of hardware and personnel, revolving around core ingredients such as the TR-808, TB-303 and MC-202. The project lived on in spirit as Brown activated Narcotic Syntax in the 90s. While a more modern, digital concern, rooted in the Perlon label family, NS still channeled the Hypnobeat concept of a "new tribalism", not least on their "Provocative Percussion" double 12" released in 2006. For all the punky veneer, there are instances where these tracks reach staggering levels of sophistication, not least on "Slash! Buffalo Eats Brass" with its intricately programmed 303 lines and nimble beats that sound a far cry from most machine music made in 1986. Prescient "Can God Rewind?" is also dazzling in the complexity of its percussion and the richness of its synth lines in C as they throb out a bastardised version of acidic Disco straight out of the rhythm collider. Elsewhere, some tracks are more primal in their execution. Visceral opening track "The Arumbaya Fetish" was a cathartic venting of Brown’s least favourite sound on the 808, the iconic cowbell, while the astounding proto-Acid miniature "Moon Jump" places limber 303 lead lines in a hail of thunderstruck patterns. "Kilian" has a stripped down quality that speaks more to the industrial era that Hypnobeat was conceived in, and "Mission In Congo" is a raw, reverb-soaked drum workout that captures the percussive-obsessive nature of Hypnobeat perfectly. Six of the seven tracks selected on this collection were primarily powered by two 808s. "I am amazed that the release sounds like we really had a plan back then…" states Brown, but this accidental magic is in fact the raison d’etre of Hypnobeat. They weren’t the only ones prefiguring the next big revolutions in electronic music in the mid 80s, but there certainly weren’t many artists stumbling across modes of expression that sound so relevant today. All songs are remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. Housed in a jacket featuring cave engravings by Pietro Insipido of an archer and animal printed in a wallpaper pattern style designed by Eloise Leigh. Each copy includes an transparent insert of an x-ray photograph from 1984 of Romulus Cœurque holding the circuit board of a BOSS DR-55 rhythm machine.

WOLF DEM is a live electronics duo from Philadelphia, conceived in the fall of 2012 by two longtime DJs who bonded over similar musical backgrounds and a mutual desire to explore the bleeding edges of electronic music. Using both digital and analog tools and drawing on a highly diverse range of influences, WOLF DEM grew from its original concept- "what your dreams would sound like if you fell asleep in an old warehouse where someone had left a dancehall station playing on the radio"- into a focused aesthetic, at once chaotic and hypnotic, sitting at the intersection of Caribbean music, techno, noise, and field recordings. Past releases include tracks for compilations on New Low and Great Circles [GRCR-010], as well cassette releases for Vague Audio Tapes and End Result Productions – all Philly labels.---“On ‘Hydrophobia’, we've delved into the dancier side of our sound, with 4x4 kickdrums underscoring much of our trademark Caribbean-influenced rhythms. ‘Aquatic Pixellation’ is the most dancefloor-oriented track of the EP, a bright, chaotic stomper, while ‘Lethe’ is all tension and menace; the flip rolls out with the slower, glitchy almost-house of ‘Tin Procession’, culminating in ‘A Cruise Down The River Styx’, a laid-back excursion into a nightmare world of wolf howls, eerie melodies, and broken grooves.”

Dorisburg's first missive since his debut album, Irrbloss, is the most deadly distillation of his talents yet. Dorisburg journeys further into the night on Venom, his first record of 2017, and it quickly found its way to Kalawila's label Mountain Explosion Device, due to the two artists having a long standing friendship that developed into a joint view of texture and sonic emotion. Having found its home, Venom burrows deep into an underground cavern, bass pulses dripping like stalactites into endless black pools of atmosphere. You journey for hours and end up in the same place. And then, just when you've resigned yourself to endless night, "Serum" is a glint of sunlight in the dark, a hint of Dorisburg's reserved optimism. You can heal yourself as long as you keep moving.

Powerful pads create the tension before sub-heavy kicks and cybernetic snares come pounding and chopping in, building up the mood before a radioactively charged Reese-bassline emerges, rising to the surface, unleashing its terror. This is a stone-cold banger.* 'Strobe Light’ returns to the more familiar 128bpm tempo that the pair have previously worked with. Taking a quite unique approach, ‘Strobe Light’ builds evermore, moving into the light, layering percussion up as an intoxicating drone of swirling strings swells and swells - entrancing and empowering in equal measures. this is a highly versatile DJ tool that also makes for an engrossing listen from start to finish. He makes straight up techno that arrests your attention and does just that again here. 'Toucan' is first and is a spangled, underwater techno track with gurgling lines wrapping round shuffling percussion and insistent drums. It's one to get into your head, while 'Puffin' is more physical, with more warped synths and paddy drums woven together into a fluid, rippling groove that never lets up. The drums on 'Dialogue' are deep and land with real resonance while dubby chords rattling out to the horizon. Last of all 'Flamingo' is the most manic of the lot, with hi speed synths and booming drums all coming together to make for powerful, sub shaking and room filling techno madness. TIP!!

Dutch DJ, producer and Dekmantel family member Young Marco kicks things off with a beautiful, melodic, waterfall of a track. It’s a record you’ll want to play out on a yacht, while sipping on a rosé under the warm, afternoon sun. 2017 has been nothing short of an epic year for Marco, having already compiled the second in the Selectors compilation series for Dekmantel, in addition to having released the second LP as Gaussian Curve, alongside Gigi Masin, and Johnny Nash. Marco is in good company, as Dutch-based artist Suzanne Kraft crafts a delightful, ambient-meets-house, summer groove, that lives at the most relaxed of paces, sitting side-by-side on the A-side. Flip the record over and Dekmantel favourite, and Dutch house institute Tom Trago finds himself in a moment of blissful summer haze, with soft, sonic-pallets and waving melodies. Concluding the record is long serving Dekmantel mainstay, and Rednose Distrikt main-man Awanto 3 with an analogue, and feel-good, electro-beat rhythm. This, the sixth release in the ten-part undertaking, follows a juggernaut of releases that have featured The Egyptian Lover, Levon Vincent, Gigi Masin, Fatima Yamaha, Burnt Friedman, and far more. Featuring the collective talents of Young Marco, Suzanne Kraft, Tom Trago, and Awanto 3, the sixth-EP is a collection of colourful soul, sun-filled gentle rhythms, and delicately smooth house-beats that are poised, and pertinent for long, summer days. Which is quite handy, considering it comes out just in time for the second iteration of the Dekmantel Selectors festival in Croatia. And if this record doesn’t make you want you to book your flights now, what will?

Senso Sounds collects together two of the key tracks from bossman Oliver Huntemann’s new ‘Propaganda’ album for this 12 inch release. Senso has established itself as a key label in the techno scene and Huntemann’s ear for quality remains as sharp as ever. ‘Rotlicht’ is a precision-honed instrument of techno weaponry - hard as nails and featuring epic and mind-bending breakdowns. Additionally the Egyptian DJ and producer Raxon reworks the track into a deep and solid groover with plenty of attitude. ‘Poltergeist’ is a journey into Huntemann’s feel for sound design and space in a club context, beguiling with its seeming simplicity, before hitting home with shifting, evolving grooves and haunting synth blasts. The young Russian Maksim Dark adds his own interpretation of ‘Poltergeist’ to the release, edging up the darkness a little more and producing a growling, tough techno workout that will go over big on a lot of floors this year.

Adding to previous 12“es on Ostgut Ton and his own RK label fellow Neuköllner and Berghain resident Kobosil offers four new uncompromising Techno club tools. While all cuts on the 105 release share filthy, stone-cold, elemental rhythms – pounding, energetic and hypnotic 4/4 kick drum slaps – the devil is, like with all Kobosil productions, in the aesthetic details. “40000 L” uses gargling synth patterns and howling horns to dramatic effect; “Bei Nacht H (178)” contrasts the kick with a harsh, tinny drumbeat and menacing melody pad, creating a nightmarish vibe.

With a far-reaching selection that has been worked into his own unique form, DJ Stingray wraps our vertigo around a gritty pneumatic bump with high-velocity swing. His mixing style, prepared for hostile engagements as it is, throttles techno into counter-gravity forces. Wading through a specialised cross-section of Detroit's own dance-floor contagions as well as the contaminated feedback signals from across the global aqua plains, the mix can be summed up in just one word: hectic.Raw, caustic, synthetic rhythm-code pumps frenzy itself through a cascading geothermal fog. Never giving away the cryptographic keys, DJ Stingray works you harder than your heart, adapting your biology to a fractal timeline of viscous systems.Discovery, or uncovering, has to do with what already exists actually or virtually; it is therefore certain to happen sooner or later with enough sweat in the club. And as Kern Volume 4 attests to, DJ Stingray has the access codes and the stealth sense to make a place of a space, and to let it fall into time.Accompanying the mix is a double vinyl. The leading manoeuvre comes from the collaborative efforts of DJ Stingray and Heinrich Mueller under an exclusive NRSB-11 piece. Seven more key titles of the covert assault make up this vinyl edition.

Originally released in 1990 on Doremix Records, Techno Bert was the studio project of Robert Passera and Stefano Cundari, co-owner of Memory Records and mastermind behind some italo disco classic names like Hipnosis, Koto, Faxe. Stefano Cundari unfortunately died of cancer on the same year of the release.Neue Dimensionen" was developed on Siouxsie & The Banshees's well-known guitar riff of 'Happy House', in a techno crescendo, where the duo would have enjoyed inserting as many samples as possible by stopping only when the capacity of the sampler Akai S1000 memory would be full. While Cundari cared for the sounds from the 48-channel analogue bench and assigned modular effects to the tracks, in studio there was also the musician Stefano Carrara who piloted the keyboards and the Notator installed on the Atari computer. The couple started the work by sampling the Human League "Being Boiled" groove, and built on harmony and melody inspired by Siouxsie & The Banshees with a Jupiter synth to which they added a low reinforcement obtained with a Roland TB-303. The drum set was based on Roland Tr-909 samples. The sample of the voice comes from "Herrmann Hiess Er" by Nina Hagen, cutting and pasting vocal fragments all around the track, from which they got the name 'Neue Dimensionen'. Even though it was distributed by Flying Records, only the most attentive clubs talked about Techno Bert single. Many discovered it the following year through the Belgian press on Target that circulated in almost all of Europe, or through the Spanish version of Spitfire.Even without big sales numbers and without any radio passage, the song continue to survive by virtue of a subtly underground connotation.

The third release by the Paris based Public System Recordings knows no bounds or borders. A massive 2x12 inch compilation featuring the likes of Fallbeil, Innsyter, Morah, Buttechno and many more from the realms of heavy rust and wild animals. The heart beat of industrial noise resonating through weathered metal surfaces. PSR003 is certainly writhing with wild tribal movement informed by the ferocity of feverish drum programming, waterlogged flanging and carefully degraded waveforms creating this fully engrossing and almost unclassifiable techno selection. It certainly puts an emphasis on the "Body" aspect of EBM.

Georgy Oilovich left the dinner, disturbed and agitated. Old Believer contained a note of reproach at his heart inactivity. Having spent himself somewhat and got rather irritable, he turned from some foreign odopters to home - bred nihilists and socialists, and ended by flying into a passion. He seized a large rolleo, and beatling it in half over his krambambully plate, in the manner of the stylish bryanskian cafe ""Transe-Croques"", announced that he would tear limb from limb, reduce to ashes, all those who objected to anybody or to anything! These were his very words. ""It is Hugh time! Hugh time, ????!"" Meanwhile, the Serbian prince, the beloved K.F.Ingram was assassinated by some rexers in Belgrade.
