Observatory, The & Koichi Shimizu - Demon State
Observatory, The & Koichi Shimizu
Demon State
LP | 2022 | EU | Original (Midnight Shift)
17,99 €*
Release:2022 / EU – Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
“There was something extra-political, extra-social, almost extra-human about it; it smacked of tidal waves, of natural forces . . . These emotions are my instruments.” — Richard Wright, The Color Curtain: A Report on the Bandung Conference (1956)

The Observatory is one of those last few bands that can change and become your life. Stuck in Singapore, the wilful outlier of Southeast Asia, this ever-shifting group stubbornly evolves past its roots, most recently in an more improvisational, instrumental, and noise-adjacent territories in an EP with collaborator Haino Keiji.

In Demon State, Dharma and Cheryl Ong plus Yuen Chee Wai continue The Observatory’s bold partnerships, this time with electronic musician Koichi Shimizu (imprint). Together, they finally reach this long-gestating, total (yet I’m sure temporary), and rhythm-focused, electronic reinvention of The Obs—while briefly nodding to their past. The road is long; Demon State is one pit stop in glorious hell.

Partly stemming from a casual, improv studio session with Koichi in early 2020, the eight tracks on Demon State—their first release on the Midnight Shift label—were formed from a gradual accumulation of sonic layers; they were foraged, recycled, and pieced together remotely also from solo bedroom recordings, a historical sample, nonhuman beats and effects, as well as journals and junk.

A vinyl and digital release, Demon State features the cover-art illustration of Enka Komariah (Senyawa, Raja Kirik). As they describe it, the “sense of wretchedness in this, the waste of capitalism, the evils of racial discrimination, the ever-spiralling mess, the awakenism of control” are confronted, head on in the band’s pattern, to disturb, comfort, confuse, worship, dance, rest, and resist. Ultimately, the singular form of Demon State refers to our personal, individual, and ineffable states of demonic possession. Demon State embraces us in the independent space of The Obs, where we can be alone together. It offers its listener some type of solace, if not an exorcism. For when the devil has been in us for this long, who’s to say who’s possessing who, who’s whispering sibilant sounds in our ears, who’s wearing the mask, who’s not yet dead and who’s still alive? Who’s still fighting for a just world?

From "Made By Desire" to "Remade By Desire": The Uncanny Valley label from Dresden, Germany curates a remixed and reworked version of the debut album by local pop heroes Atna and takes us on a trip through various styles of Club Music, electronic Pop excursions and music college Rock'n'Roll. When Atna sent the German pop world and beyond into rapture with their debut album "Made By Desire" in 2020, the Uncanny Valley crew was also very excited by the duo's life-affirming pop concept. Soon, the idea of a cooperation came up. Since both the band and the label operate from their base in Dresden, contacts were quickly made and the first meeting was so productive that the plan for a collaborative remix and rework album was soon turned into action. Uncanny Valley put together a selection of stylistically diverse artists that took account for the various influences in Atna's music and reflect the multifaceted sounds of the Uncanny Valley label cosmos. After the initial idea two years ago, "Remade By Desire" is now an album that puts the Atna songs into new musical context, but sounds surprisingly coherent given the stylistic diversity of the artists involved. It's as if all the musicians had attended a studio retreat for a week and experimented with what is possible when you mix their respective skills. The result is a true crossover album that takes us from edgy techno over orchestral ambient to jazzy punk and challenges without overchallenging.

When did we write these songs? How long did we let them collecting digital dust before we decided to put them out? Memory is a difficult thing these days. But thanks to Swedish saxophone virtuoso Kristian Harborg these two songs suddenly re-surfaced, with new relevance and purpose. Taladitionalists will hear a familiar sound, as we stick to deep & dubby Kraut disco, fine-tuned for intimate stadiums yet again. Can a song be too long? Let’s find out! Thanks for listening. Alex Banks - Projections

Projections
2LP | 2022 | UK | Original (Mesh)
34,99 €*
Release:2022 / UK – Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
Respected producer, DJ and sound designer Alex Banks presents his third studio album ‘Projections’, returning to Max Cooper’s Mesh imprint. The work follows up critically acclaimed releases on Modeselektor’s Monkeytown, Ninja Tune, where he remixed Bonobo, and his sublime sophomore album ‘Beneath the Surface’ from 2019. Produced in his studio in Brighton, UK, the album is an immersive nine-track masterstroke covering the gamut of electronica, techno, breakbeat, bass and IDM, fit for clubs and home-listening alike. The project was born in the early stages of 2021. With little outside stimulation to draw inspiration from, Banks invested in new gear including a Moog Matriarch, Dfam and a host of Eurorack Modules - and set about immersing himself in the possibilities of his new semi-modular synths. In terms of sonic reference points, he found himself in new territory, too. “Usually going to a club night, or concert, or even the simple things in life that you take for granted all feed into a melting pot of things that inspire me to create. But without these, I instead found myself drawing on memories of experiences, and imagining new ones for the future to come. I began to feel like these were projections, almost like memories of experiences I had been projecting via the music I was creating,” he shares, adding that memories of clubbing trips to Berlin, London and Brighton fuelled his vision for the album. Furthermore, the seclusion we collectively experienced allowed Banks to philosophise on the nature of human connection, which fed into the album concept: “I started to think about how during our period of relative isolation, we are all projecting into the digital ether, searching for a connection in an increasingly virtual world where shared human contact and experiences have become scarce.” In ‘Projections,’ Banks creates an immersive world to get lost in, typified by the ambient opener, ‘Transitions’, where he builds up a dreamy ocean of sound. ‘Into the Realm’ sees the artist set the scene for the off-kilter album landscape to follow, as modulated synth patterns ricochet throughout. First single ‘A Way Out’, due out 6 April, takes us onto the dancefloor, a foot in breaks and techno alike, flanked by his signature pads and intermittent synth melodies that radiate a sense of melancholic optimism. The track is complimented by a striking video clip by award-winning motion graphics designer Matthew Clugston who has translated its contrasting moods into a brilliant juxtaposition between artificial and natural life cycles. Made during a four-day period where Banks locked himself away in his studio, ‘Introspective’ conveys the uneasiness of its creator and is his most intense production to date, as a soaring wall of sound drops down into an exhilarating gabber finish. Elsewhere another notable includes the big rolling electro-edged techno cut ‘Recall Mindset’, as Banks channels the feeling of being back on a Berlin dancefloor. ‘Before the End’ is similarly brilliant, swinging between bass and IDM and features vocals from a demo by his wife Maya Wolff, which were chopped, re-pitched and layered with FX. Banks will be touring the album this summer with a new A/V experience featuring stunning audio reactive visuals and a custom- built pyramid light structure. Performing with Ableton and a selection of the analogue gear he used to create the LP, he will rework the tracks to create a unique experience with every show.

Release:2022 / EU – Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
Kristian is a new anonymous project on Figure Music, exploring a different kind of sound that is based on subtly nuanced live jams and oriented towards a slightly more raw house and dubby-related style.

Opener Doubtful makes a strong first impression as Kristian weaves together lush, cheerful chords with a tight yet rolling bass momentum, carrying the track forward effortlessly. In stark contrast, Dry Dub is groove reduced to its bare essence. A straight-up drum track made of sparse elements that confidently unfold their subliminal power over time.

The flip holds cuts that really want to spring to life. Swirly, dubbed-out sounds create a colorful and dynamic palette, rapidly changing in movement and direction. Insider riffs on heavily animated, filtered synth action, while closing track Worthiness goes deep and spacey, oozing with warm machine charm, squelching acid, and bubbly bass.

Shdw & Obscure Shape welcome Alarico back to Mutual Rytm as the Italian delivers a medley of diverse techno cuts across his latest EP, 'Boya'.

Arriving fresh from an impressive twelve months with releases via the likes of Token Records alongside his notable self-production only mixes, Italian DJ and producer Alarico continues to grow as a talent on the rise within techno. Combining nuances from across the genre to shape his own fast-paced and raw yet soulful sound, the Milan based talent hasn't slowed down since launching the alias in 2019. Having featured on the label's VA 'Federation Of Rythm I' earlier this year, he now returns to Shdw and Obscure Shape's blossoming Mutual Rytm imprint for his first EP on the label - delivering eight cuts across both digital and vinyl for 'Boya'.

Kicking things off with the rugged and loopy 'ae86', Alarico quickly gets to work fusing driving grooves with slick vocal interjections, while title cut 'Boya' veers into slightly more raw and metallic territories guided by snappy claps and resounding kicks. 'Killa Cut' brings the funk on the B-side as soulful vocals ebb and glow amongst the mix, with 'Lost In Time' offering up pulsing bass beneath ethereal vocals, sweeping melodies and lively hats. The vinyl package is wrapped up by 'The Ballad of Lisa', with the infectious bleeping topline leading off-kilter clangs, slightly offsetting the track's tight core groove.

With three bonus tracks on the digital package, the Italian continues to bring the heat with 'God Bless Hip Hop' providing yet more punchy, skipping rhythms accented by rich chords. 'Cigarettes After Sex' carries a more manic and chaotic arrangement yet still manages to hold the track together amongst murky flutters, before closing the show via 'The Rush Hour' to deliver warping, arpeggiated basslines and a constant battle of tension and release.

Markus Suckut returns with his second EP on 'made of Concrete'. Named after the Ruhr area, one of the densest regions in Germany, 'Ruhr' shows off the mesmerizing skillset and versatility of the producer. His hometown Düsseldorf is one of the three major cities on the Ruhr map and has brought up its very own Düsseldorf-sound within German electronic music, with local heroes Kraftwerk paving the way in the 1970s. The twists and turns of the Ruhr river and the musical paths that electronic music has taken all come together in this EP, which steers from techno to electronica with ease.

While 'Tunnel' is a rather straightforward minimal techno banger, the title track 'Ruhr' is almost melancholic. 'At The Park With Friends' ventures into the realms of ambient. The 5-tracker is accompanied by a technoid remix of 'Smoke' by Markus Suckut's longtime friend Thomas Hessler.

Release:2022 / EU – Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
The long-running Kompakt imprint will release an EP by German DJ and producer Sascha Funke in September. Sharing five tracks that traverse quirky house and techno, Treets marks Funke’s monumental return to Kompakt since his Zug um Zug two-tracker in 2014.

Speaking about Treets, Funke says he is "very happy to be back on the mothership Kompakt" after an eight-year break. As one would expect with Funke, the EP fits the cosmic world of Kompakt to a tee. The title track conveys a weird, tripped-out atmosphere as an alien-like vocal burbles between an acid bassline and squeaky percussion. It's a tantalising glimpse of Funke's freaky underworld. E_Plus follows a similar wonked-out vein, only this time, the vibe is ominous. Funke pairs an orchestral vocal with bleepy pads and signature acid-drenched melody — a solid offering oddball of energy. On Alles Paletti, a 2-step drum pattern and string of bright claps create a sunny soundscape, complemented by a robust bassline and ethereal synth notes. It's fairytale house music, the kind only Funke can produce. The penultimate track Haus More is subdued, as chugging drums slither between a wobbly melody. The Other Version feels futuristic, as Funke goes full-force electro. Extra-terrestrial vocals return, but the pace is cranked up by strident sound FX and thudding drums. An eccentric end to an eccentric EP.

Sascha Funke is a Berlin-based producer and DJ with two decades' worth of releases building his back catalogue. BPitch Control, Turbo Recordings, Endless Flight, Running Back, and several more esteemed imprints have released his work. Today, he continues to create sleek sounds that weave various genres from house, techno, disco, Krautrock, wave, electro and unclassified anomalies. As a DJ, Funke is just as free-wheeling as his productions. He's played E1 in London, Caos in São Paulo and Renate in Berlin, amongst others, displaying his sweeping sound to a worldwide audience. Having been exposed to euro-dance pop as a youngster, you can hear flashes from the genre stitched throughout his work but blended in a way that's quintessential to Funke. Never one to change his sound according to the latest trend, Funke stays true to his creative vision — one of the most significant challenges for producers today.

"I created Kaos as the ultimate DJ weapon toolbox. It's purpose was to make records that could save a night or a mix. Records that melted the eras, the places. Records for which people would always ask Track ID? Records contrived in the floor for the floor. And I'm pretty sure that we are accomplishing this purpose. As hardcore pop culture admires, this is our contribution to it. Proudly introducing: Hard POP. You know this name better than you think, but we love to twist it. Not Yet delivers a full force mechanical techno avalanche extracting the code from pioneers of the style such as Glen Wilson or Chris Liebing. On the follow, one of our most amazing recent discoveries, Sue Lewig brings tripping techno to the next level. What seems to be a mental track switches into a quasi industrial dance floor opera. Not suitable for purist. The first but not the last on Kaos. Flip the record to find the New Zealand legend, Keepsakes. Finger zaps on the 2 and the 4, primitive as a Neanderthal, here the shamanic effort our deal fella living in the other side of the planet and owner from Haven. First track from A-side made by Victor B, a talented producer from Odesa, whose live performances can often be heard in the walls of the Odesa club PORT. Side continues by the work of Closer resident from Kyiv - O 'Fourty Four aka Pahatam. This man has more than ten years of musical experience behind him and knows how to capture the listener's attention, which he skillfully demonstrates in his work. B-side begins with the track of the already well-known musician from Kharkiv, co-founder of the Trance Pandemic label — Kurilo. The track has absorbed all the best technical and stylistic methods of its author. Our friend from Zaporizhzhia Brooht completes the record. A lyrical and slightly dreamy composition that balances so well with dynamic and dance-provoking bangers.

RED is a project by Francis Latreille aka Priori. It showcases a darker, more chaotic, and rugged sound. Strange sounds and textures are arranged in unpredictable but sometimes surprisingly dancey moments.

Expect effective hardcore bangers, techno bangers, cross-over bangers. Bangers, pretty much, and the occasional tame B-side, maybe. This first release serves up a nice dose of nostalgia. Arp Track #1 is classic slowly unfolding muscular low-key euphoric loop techno while Mndkntrl on the flipside harkens back to some of the best moments in dark millennium hardcore.

With the VOI 031 Voitax enters a new series of releases that will continue to expand the labels explorative musical and visual output with more talent. The series kicks of with no one less than Imogen, who was bursting out on the scene only a few years ago. Ever since, she established herself as an ambitious selector behind the decks and became a prominent figure in the world of dance music. Her first solo EP "What?" on Voitax presents a strong package of five tracks that clearly reflect the influence of her homelands prosperous electronic music heritage. A distinguished set of breaks are fusionend with Electro, IDM, and Hardcore without ever loosing touch to its groovy rhythmics. While this release is certainly loaded with strong dance floor material, the quality of her production process remains remarkable. The roughness and edginess of the entire EP reveal a strong connection to her 808 and modular system, that helped to create unique textures and granular soundscapes. Instead of resampling UK sample packs over and over again, Imogen is ambitious to create her own signature sound through a sequence of personalized studio equipment. With this approach she manages to fusion a punky style of 90's rave culture with sophisticated futuristic sound processing. Each track meets a different atmosphere, as the approach to rhythm, speed, sound and arrangement evolves from the beginning to the end - yet, they all remain part of the same story. We are delighted to welcome Imogen to the family and are looking forward to see this journey grow.

Accompanying the cassette album of Lerosa’s fourth full-length, Catena, this heavyweight 12” features two originals from the album and two remixes from familiar faces: childhood friend Donato Dozzy and long-time fellow traveller Jordan GCZ (of Juju & Jordash). Album closer ‘Suite De Paris’ places pitch-bent liquid acid over a huge skanking bassline, the perfect material for Dozzy to make hay with his simmering techno take. Meanwhile, album opener ‘Apollo’ churns with industrial fervour, before Jordan GCZ reduces it down to its acid techno essence, leaving little space for us to catch our breath.

Following on from Tu Sei Pazza, Daniel Monaco returns to the Bordello with the bitter taste of the Tb303 on his tongue. Acid Maria smoulders with the intensity of a Belgian new beat banger circa 1989. Smoky words whisper over rusted rhythms before the fog and strobe take hold. Cold strings haunt with snaking coils of 303 squawk growing ever bolder in this intense track. The flip is divided into two very different remixes. First up is Curses who approaches the piece in his own unique way. The fanfare and frigid lines of the original are expanded. Strings come care of guitars as a bright synth wave reimaging unfolds, a reimaging with one of the most daring breaks you are likely to ever hear. Younger Than Me close. This interpretation adds a fevered tone to the original. BPMs rise and pitches are pushed while chilly notes soon balloon into a frenzy to bring a full floor energy. Three tracks born to bring brimming basements into the beyond.

Tresor Records is proud to announce 333 Mirrors from Torus, the artist alias of Joeri Woudstra. Coupled with its catalogue number 333, it indicates the large-scale conceptual thoughts behind the record, typical of Woudstra's practice. As an artist, he sets out to frame re-interpretable references that trigger some subconscious recognition in listeners, with no set way to interpret them but leading to singular feelings and thought processes. The eect, a combination of static electronic sounds and looser field recordings, speaks to each listener differently. 333 Mirrors is, in part, the continuation of a project called These Cars Do Not Exist, made with videographer Mark Prendergast during the Covid-19 limbo. The live performed short film sold out selected popup cinemas in 2020 in a short sprint of shows. Two of the tracks on that project, Sound of the Drums and Chroniko, are re-imagined on 333 Mirrors, emanating as versions created in live performances. Set to be released as a single, Chroniko VIP will be accompanied by an enduring theme from that project, the three-winged bird, this time deceased. On 333 Mirrors, in exploring the ambient, stretched sonic universe of this project more, Woudstra moves from these three-winged birds to the phoenix, finding a rebirth on the b-side with tracks that inhabit a similar sound as Deep Mid, Torus's inclusion on the recent Tresor 30 compilation. The sound of Torus places importance on the multi-faceted approach to sampling, pushing the idea behind the practice beyond usual boundaries. How to break the unwritten rules? Woudstra looks within by resampling previous Torus releases and reverse-engineering the sounds of the most revered pop and electronic musicians alive today, references that trigger recognition, melancholy and nostalgia in the listener. 3000 Mirrors features a staccato arpeggiating rigid pattern, the sonic eect of standing in front of a strobe until it becomes the anchor. Silence and interruption are used as a device to explore the physically uncomfortable, more the central compositional tool than the disrupted harmonic structures. Woudstra has never stepped foot in Tresor, so when writing this record, an enduring question spoke to him, what is Tresor when you have never been? How do you sample the essence of an unknown location? The closing track, Omnia, is the sound of anticipation, where the rave beckons. This imagined industrial space is calling for you.

Since the early days of electronic music, white label records have been inextricably linked to DJ culture and the ways in which underground music has been disseminated. unknown - untitled draws on the white label concept withholding details about the producers behind the tracks and leaving listeners to draw their own conclusions about what they’re hearing. The concept label focuses primarily on vinyl releases, with previews of the tracks available online, but information about the artists only to be found within the record sleeve itself. The roster ranges from new and emerging producers to more established artists looking to explore new sounds. Picking up where they left off, the fourth release on the label is a powerhouse of mind melting, UK-flavoured, twisted techno-not-techno and breaks. Intricate rhythms, chest rumbling sub bass and deft samples destined for a heavyweight club system. With online personas often eclipsing the focus on music itself, here lies a return to form.

Slam collaborate with Hector Oaks, 999999999, Keith Tucker (aka Optic Nerve), Amelie Lens, Rebekah, AnD & Perc, for a new five part Soma Records project Louder Than Chaos.

On March 2020 the world was abruptly thrown into collective disarray. The Pandemic stopped almost everything dead in its tracks. No social gatherings, self isolation, a sense of panic and bewilderment prevailed. An industry that had become so dependent on human connection and unity, was suddenly switched off and put on pause for an unforeseeable future.

It was in this climate that The Louder Than Chaos project was born, facilitated by Soma Records head honchos and techno protagonists Slam. A collaborative project with friends, colleagues and contemporaries normally only seen at airports, or events, now brought together under a completely different set of circumstances, allowing for a purposeful connection in a time of disconnect. The focus of the project is built on a powerful mutual participation, remotely constructed over time and fully intended for holding court on peak time dance floors when they inevitably return. That time has now finally come.

The Louder Than Chaos project is a series of 5 releases, on 12 vinyl" & Digital, to be released monthly via Soma Records. Featuring collaborations between Slam & Hector Oaks, Slam & 999999999 Slam & Keith Tucker (aka Optic Nerve), + more to follow.

Each EP features specially commissioned artwork from German based artist PPP Panic, which consolidates into one constructive piece over the 5 releases.

Genre:Electronic / Dance
Quality techno from this Dutch Techno Don! A stalwart of the Dutch techno scene since the mid nineties, Jeroen Schrijvershof has been ploughing his own furrow aside from the typical norms and standards of the techno scene with lasting integrity and unflinching dedication throughout the years. A coinage derived from the sharp, clinically designed blends he has come to be known for, that Search-sound has long established as a blueprint for DJs seeking laser-guided weaponry into their sets, and Jeroen's maiden effort for RYC follows that very guideline. Starting with the massive pound of the title-track, "Enigma", the EP knocks into your system with blunt force, ushering us into a no-frills corridor of hydraulic kicks and sizzling static. As per usual with Jeroen's compositions, minimalism serves a purpose of exponential effect. True to the fuel-efficient philosophy of the producer, "Modules" harnesses a controlled avalanche of modular signals and no-prisoner, big-room techno dynamics to forge a piece of exquisitely raw rave material that can move blocks of concrete with its nose. Letting the groove a little bit looser, "Object of Ridicule" spins at fierce tempo whilst relying on the same limited palette of chiselled drums and ominous strings to plunge the dance floor into a darker, neo-noir paradox of rhythmic straightforwardness and mystery-shrouded ambiguity. Topping the release off is "Circle Park", a cut that further exposes Jeroen's constant juggling between atmospheric opacity and a surgical, technicist approach towards production. A matter of thoroughly finessed textures and obsession for the faintest detail that shines through "Enigma" with unrelenting ebullience. More than anything the fruit of an endless search for fresh, unheard forms of transcending techno expression. In reflection to the release's outstanding character, we decided to have it pressed to 180g audiophile vinyl so y'all purists can revel in Enigma's heavily detailed sound spectrum.

Mr Emotinium goes rogue on a new breaks-heavy bop for Acid Waxa, riding a wave of mid tempo squelchers and industrial strength gurner-churners, pressed on vinyl for the very thirst time! The tough breakbeats, slippery machine funk and fizzier end of the acid spectrum have always been a predominant driving force throughout most of Roy’s impressive output to date but on his new Fenix Break slab for Acid Waxa, Nottingham’s finest lays the mid-tempo gurner-churners on thick with a trowel and goes in deep on a wild, cement mixer bop. Employing the use of an old Akai sampler avec floppy discs and the mega rare Cwejman S2 & Synton Fenix 19 synths alongside his usual acidic apparatus - Roy delivers six heavily-processed 303 sizzlers, recorded straight to tape for added rawness and pressed on to vinyl for the very thirst time, following a sold out, limited edition cassette version of Fenix Break, released in 2019.

Release:2022 / EU – Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
Delsin is pleased to welcome a true pillar of the contemporary techno scene, Answer Code Request, for his first EP in six years. As an integral part of the Ostgut Ton family since breaking through some 10 years ago, Patrick Graser has shaped a patient but potent discography which embodies the hybridised nature of techno in the 21st Century. His distinctive style of melodically embellished, subtly fractured body music helps define the contemporary zeitgeist, but it also moves with enough emotional maturity to stand on its own terms as compelling, artist-led electronic music. Arriving some four years after his second LP Gens, the Shattering EP opens in an especially exploratory mode as Graser teases elements of breakbeat and ambient techno on the spellbinding 'Resonate'. 'Shattering' finds a different palette through which to explore broken rhythms, leaning in on a heavyweight bassline injected with rave-wired distortion. There are more linear techno pulses to be found in the tunnelling propulsion of 'crs-21', but in the interests of contrast the EP closes with the sparkling refraction of 'Sustaining Life', a floor-ready masterclass in electronica with teeth.

Release:2022 / UK – Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
Julian Jeweil returns to Drumcode for his first EP in two years with the inspired six-tracker ‘Boreal’ split across two records. The Frenchman has been a vital member of the extended Drumcode family since 2017 when he debuted with the fantastic ‘Rolling’ EP. Since then, highlights have included playing main stage at Drumcode Festival and dropping the critically acclaimed ‘Transmissions’ album in 2019. His ‘Boreal’ EP marks his fifth outing on the imprint. Part I kicks off with the title track, a truly special record, striking the sweet spot between euphoria and melancholy, as airy pads and stirring waves of melody stamp it with a timeless feel. On the flip, ‘Time’ is a propulsive weapon built around a steely industrial backbone and is a necessary tool for every set. ‘Reverse’ closes out part one in style - a low-slung beast that builds up intergalactic energy throughout.

Mint Condition - A record label focused on excavating the outer fringes of classic House and Techno. Unreleased mixes, classics, overlooked gems and never heard before material, mined from the last 30+ years of contemporary dance music are the order of the day. From Chicago, Detroit and New York to London and beyond. Mint Condition have got their digging hats on to bring you exclusive heat and those rarer than rare jams that have been in your wants list for years. Dig in. Back in the early '90's California's West Coast's parties, raves and clubs began to be fueled by the emergent sound of tripped out acid breakbeats and psychedelic house jams. Jason Drummond, AKA DJ Spun & Courtney Nielsen teamed up as Central Fire, their debut was both influential and pioneering, released in '94 on Twitch Recordings, a mainstay of the San Fran scene, it would pathe the way for what was to come. 'This Is A Shout Going Out' (Into The Future Mix) opens with infectious bubbling 303, there's breaks aplenty with expertly programmed twists and turns along the way, whilst the vocal keeps it lively throughout. The Sliced and Diced Mix sees Jim Hopkins edit the original down into a jam packed journey. Over on the flip 'Central Fire' (Yes People It's Time Pt.1 and 2) takes a more stripped back approach, a b-line and breaks that deliver the funk underpin delicate riffs, dub FX and an unforgettable flute interplay to turn this track into another devastatingly programmed episodic ride. This EP has stood the test of time, an essential rarity that has achieved cult status amongst the most discerning DJs, music heads and record collectors alike. It has been legitimately re-released with the full involvement of Jason and Courtney, lovingly remastered by London's Curve Pusher from the original DATs especially for Mint Condition. 100% legit, licensed and released. Dug, remastered, repackaged and brought to you by the caring folks at your favourite reissue label - Mint Condition!

Memory Motions EP
12" | 2022 | UK | Original (Trelik)
14,99 €*
Release:2022 / UK – Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
Mystical dreamweaver Edward has previously brought out some of his classiest club-tooled gear for Trelik, with 2018's Rumours EP being a particular highlight in his glittering career in minimal. Breaking a protracted silence for Baby Ford's label, this new three-tracker once more takes us into the unique atmospheric zone Edward occupies with his productions. 'The Giver' has an unnerving, desolate quality but it's also rock-solid in the rhythm department, with subtle threads of warmth to balance out the eeriness. 'Memory Motions' is a spicier cut with a pronounced house jack to propel a tense set of sonic motifs, with a special mention to the wobbly organ-like chord line. 'Tuned' is the most upfront of all the tracks, using some processed piano hooks and a full compliment of nagging, funkified ingredients to make a certified, if left-of-centre, party starter.

No More Motivation
2LP | 2022 | UK | Original (Lobster Theremin)
24,99 €*
Release:2022 / UK – Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
French artist Trudge returns to Lobster Theremin with his debut LP No More Motivation arriving on March 18th with a genre-bending and original masterstroke; charged as it is cerebral. The album's concept points to the artist's tumultuous relationship with music; plagued by life events and the looming shadow of tragedy. That same relationship however, has led to an album of nuance, a cathartic whirlwind that pushes and pulls from one part of the psyche to the next.

From the laden house sounds found in his earlier work, to the hard-hitting emotive techno we hear today, both Trudges’ personal and artistic evolution runs parallel, drawing between the lines of introspection and dance music’s modern functionality. Bangkok Radio kicks off proceedings with a reminiscent drive through the city's bustling landscape, as space unfolds the further we travel from the hustle and bustle of daily life. No Motivation, Meaningless is a nod to the producer's headspace - burdened by the unpredictability of reality and it’s governing influence on art; echoing throughout the entire album.

Mazzomba explores the duality of light and dark; heavily submerged sounds can be heard melting below the surface, as airy synths create an ethereal glow - acting as our torch through the crud-infested trench. The album's interlude Berserk provides a rest bite, an ambient dreamscape laced with deeply layered textures - casting warm fluorescent light amongst the clouds as balance is restored.

Dead Orange and Gradient demonstrate the artist's knact for intelligent sound-design and world-building soundscapes, while Unghosted and Punishments sees Trudge venture into raw and unwavering compositions created for the dance-floor. Closing the album is Blue Ritual, a thought-provoking piece that has the ability to transport and heal. It’s introspective layers point to the changing winds to come - rounding off an album not binded by genre, but an eclecticism that characterizes an artist true to his craft.

Third iteration in OEW’s VA series, Witness03 brings over a fresh new quartet of heaters from another of its carefully curated cast of up-and-rising producers. Delving in the vaults of 90s rave, and spanning all things from atmospheric techno to spine-tingling bass, via electro, acid and further afield electronics.

Engaging first, Cljl flings a brick of breaksy sedition into the matrix with the mighty “System Research”. Fusing 303-emulated traction with jaw-crushing freq shifts, ruff snares and fluttering synth spirals gone astray, this one is pure woofer-busting material. Second in line, Naone “Silhouette” is an aggressive slice of dopey, bass-heavy cosmonautics, tailored to have the listener zoning out into a magnetic field of alien echoes, delays and reverbs.

Flip sides and here is Lvca and Sidd taking over your brainwaves with “Stranger” - a squelchy joint connecting the dots between Bochum Weltian spaciousness, pop-laced ethereality and a propulsive programming bound to astral project yourself into a whole other dimension. Last but not least, N-GYNN’s “Fire Rave” engineers a jagged and easy-going carnival of funkster machine talk, weird organic noises and sleazy boogie.

The EP builds on the strong momentum gained over the five self-releases since 2020, leading first with the urgent, trance-inducing "Sahasrara" that builds steadily over a rolling groove littered with natural sound fragments, whilst "Motion" drives forward and explores the spaces in between. The tense "Anahata" is more menacing in its intent, letting off vicious synth swipes amidst tight, shuffling percussion whereas "Kaag X" runs into the red with its muscular groove, cavernous sub-bass and raw, overdriven handclaps.

Since then, he’s gone on to become an entrenched member of the All Day I Dream collective, while building up his own label Shanti Radio Moscow. His generous maiden EP offering 'Life' is as expressive as you’d expect. Fellow Dreamer Lost Desert is a collaborative partner on all but one of the EP tracks and brings his sublime touch to the work. 'Fluminnese (Dub)' features rising Moscow duo Volen Sentir and is a sundrenched slice of house that twinkles with loads of warmth and positivity also features. 'No Line Can Be Found' was crafted with Nikolai Briar and is an uplifting union of swirling arpeggios, emotional strings and a heartfelt vocal that combines for a powerful finish. 'Ocean' sees the appearance of his vocal alter ego Marvin the Sun, and is a lilting soulful cut that begs to be played at sundown. 'Night Walk' is a beautiful yet functional cut, comprised of a tech backbone and lush chord sequence. 'Covered in White' is a transcendental slice of house driven by a terrific groove and melody line. A lively vocal-led 12” version of lead track 'Fluminnese' rounds out the pack.

Forest Drive West makes a welcome return to Echocord this February with the ‘Recursion’ EP, featuring one solo cut and two collaborations with DB1 and Localhost. London’s Forest Drive West has been steadily releasing his left of centre take on techno over the past five years on the likes of Livity Sound, Hidden Hawaii, Delsin, Ad93 fka Whities and of course Echocord where here returns here following the ‘Parallel Space’ EP back in 2019.

Leading the release is the murky, tense atmospherics of ‘100m’, produced alongside regular collaborator DB1 the eight minute composition journeys through unfurling, expansive pads, subtly nuanced bass warbles and gritty off-kilter percussion.

Next up, Forest Drive West joins forces with Localhost for title-cut ‘Recursion’, embracing a 4/4 approach rhythmically this time and bringing hazy, ethereal pads, earth shattering subs and circling stab sequences into the limelight. Forest Drive West’s solo cut ‘Anchor’ then rounds out the release, taking things deeper into dub territory via tumbling percussive echoes, billowing chords and heavy doses of low-end drive.

The majestic Aliens Don't Boogie was an instant banger when it was released back in 1999 and has been a regular in the bags for some of the largest DJ's in the techno scene for years. Now some of the big names in the Dub techno scene make their homage to this classic and do so with style. Firstly we have the don of the Russian techno scene Andrey Pushkarev transforming it into a ultra-deep hypnotic voyage. The Icelandic techno youngling Waage brings his hallmark dub influences and creates an after- hours delight from the source material. On the flipside, it starts with a remix from the brothers Mark & Matt Thibideau. The Canadian sensations are on their A-game with this one; creating a delicately structured atmospheric yet groovy take on the original. The release is completed with a deep and trippy remix from the Icelandic dub techno legend Octal Industries. Thule Records is considered by many to be a pioneer in the field of dub-influenced techno music, and has been a starting point for many of Iceland's most renowned electronic musicians.

Delicate Records sheds it’s soft sensitive skin; evolving through a callous cross-Canadian melding of the minds. Dosis is Nap (Isla / Ambien Baby) and Zdbt (1800Haight Street / Phost), an organically masterful combination; the partnership conjuring instinctive chantings of the deep with Naranja and its frisky B side dub.

The title track is a drill in percussive practice, a repetition session for body release. With furious inhale, a grating of timbres and captivating clap-backs are sucked in through the senses, trickling down to the toes. Lured by swampy wubs of sub, amoebic roots in drums and primal hymns drenched out past the horizon. The essence of erosion seeps through on the flip; Nap’s imitable vocals find a home in a hypnotic habitat, stretched duration and gorgeous frolic. A drop into dubby bliss; shrieking skritches and distortions fly rogue, yet discover curious harmony.

An essential disc for freaky folk; head in the clouds and feet dug deep.

A download code is included. Internationally revered, multi-faceted artist Arnaud Rebotini arrives on Veyl with the new EP, ‘New Territory’. While venturing into a wide array of musical genres and sonic realms, the release is still unmistakably Rebotini, fueled by infectious electro-body grooves and hypnotizing vocals. From the utterly addictive, pulse pounding allure of “Special A” to the more industrial techno strains of ‘A Noise Rose’, Rebotini delivers a myriad of interconnected tracks which traverse fresh auditory landscapes but maintain a common circuitry. The poignant, anthemic lyrics of ‘No More Love (No More Hate)’ resonates loud and clear while the throbbing, Giallo flaire of ‘Italian Sex Drive’ sends shivers down the spine. ‘The Pale Eastern Christ’ injects a haunting atmospheric mood while the title track is irresistible ebmwave that falls perfectly in between the lines for an indelible sound that only the French producer can conjure. Rebotini’s work continues to shatter boundaries and fuse genres while essentially pioneering a category all of his own. ‘New Territory’ furthers the legend and keeps us begging for more.

Genre:Electronic / Dance
Following on from the 2020 release of ‘On A Nimbus’, Priori returns with his second album ‘Your Own Power’ to be released on the 12th November via Naff - the label he co-founded alongside Ex-Terrestrial. ‘Your Own Power’ was produced between April and July of 2020, with the lockdown allowing Priori to spend more time in the studio exploring new instruments and wiring the equipment in new inspiring ways. Like a lot of people, the isolation and change of pace got him back into more contemplative styles of music like shoegaze and ambient, which had a big impact on how the album was recorded. The only collaboration on the album is ‘The Tower’ which was recorded with Ex-Terrestrial in Montreal and highlights the contemplative quality that defines the album. With the extra time to focus in the studio and work on producing sounds from scratch, ‘Your Own Power’ is Priori’s first record almost entirely made using synthesis. This follows on from the ‘Little Flower’ EP, released earlier this year, which was the first time Priori used his own voice on a record. There’s a sense of optimism on ‘Your Own Power’ with a colder, more crystalline sound giving the album a bright and sparkly feeling. For the record, Priori has teamed up with fellow Canadian artist Matt Cangiano on the artwork who is known for creating beautiful hybrid pieces that bridge biology, botany, and the digital world. Additional design is the work of French artist Ellyson Gasparetto. Priori is an alias of Francis Latreille who first put out solo releases on Greek label Echovolt and Canadian imprint ASL Singles Club. Known to be an avid collaborator, Latreille is involved in a number of projects including Jump Source, M.S.L., Housemates, New World Science, ANF and more. He has also worked on mixing projects by fellow artists including Roza Terenzi, Ex-Terrestrial, RAMZi, Bambii, and Ouri.

After the unbridled success of her eponymous debut album, and the subsequent relentless touring schedule that took her to all corners of the earth, Nina Kraviz has finally found the time to get back in the studio and has bestowed another gift of musical material to the Rekids catalogue. ‘Mr Jones’ is a neat, 6-track package featuring Nina’s first original output since her 2012 LP, which has since been pulled apart, re-imagined and remixed by the likes of Steve Rachmad, KiNK, Marcellus Pittman, Fred P, DVS1, DJ Qu and Radio Slave to name but a few. Now it’s Nina’s turn to get back behind the mixing desk, and fans of her slightly lesser-known B-side ‘Tanya’ will be pleased to hear the release kick off with ‘Desire’ – as Nina’s seductive voice surges in and out over a hypnotically dissonant groove with slightly menacing undertones, much like her aforementioned track. On title track ‘Mr Jones’ Nina’s voice is very much the star of the show – musing on the mysterious man himself, while a constant ‘oom-pah’ backbeat props up ticks and whirling textures generated by Nina’s own vocal chords. Detroit’s Luke Hess joins the fold on ‘Remember’, and certainly brings the flavour of his hometown, as the track builds in intensity with battering ram percussion and siren-like bleeps that are sure to land this one straight in Jeff Mills’ record bag. Next up, it’s back to House on the spicy ‘Black White’, where enchanted melodic cross-rhythms filter in and out through an Afro-Caribbean bounce, while Nina chants and calls over the top. ‘So Wrong’ is a more solemn affair, reminiscent of the more melancholic yet danceable tracks from her much lauded album, and ‘Sheer’ ends the release much like it starts, unnerving whistles and warbling textures combine to disorienting effect over a steady kick drum pulse.

G Town Records returns in style with a sophomore release from Brisbane’s finest - X Club. Following on from enthralling electro and techno EPs on Steel City Dance Discs and 1Ø Pills Mate respectively, the pair show their full deck of cards with ‘now OR Never’, a four track representation of driving top down in the pouring rain.

Having risen up through the ranks of Brisbane’s colourful club scene, Ben and Jesse’s electric pairing has offered up some of electronic music’s freshest tracks in the past year; these four being picked straight from the root, pressed directly to wax and straight to your doorstep via Galway City.

We kick off with ‘Concentrate’; an unrelenting rolling mesh of drums and tense vocals that culminate to X Club’s almost signature UK break sound that doesn’t skimp in intensity. Following on from that we’re met with one of the most in demand tracks of the past year following constant radio and club play, ‘Inna Trance’; an audio representation of a noughties donk and trance fan’s Las Vegas wedding gone wrong.

We flip to the B side where the aptly titled ‘sports That Require Petrol’ takes us back to the gym for a performance enhanced drum workout before drowning us in pads and letting us up for air as we approach the emotional crescendo that is the final track. ‘Elevation’ sees the listener don their best Ryan Gosling-esque driving gloves before embarking on a rain soaked journey to finish the job; it really is NOW OR Never.

GTown002 stamps X Club’s place among the elites right now and certifies G Town Records as a label not to be ignored going forward into a brave new world.

89st is the obscure electronic music project of Berlin-based Carlos Grabstein whom has collaborated with the multi-faceted Petra Flurr to create the German industrial-album of the year. Clearly influenced majorly by the rudimentary early industrial of DAF and Suicide it includes as well more modern approaches to the genre that evokes to Nitzer EBB because of the exploding energy of their chants and the tribalist power of their drums sections.
