A collection of Techno, Italian-House, New Beat and Post Punk all heard on the same dancefloors amongst Goa's tropical beaches during the late 80's and early 90's. What is now understood as Goa Trance was once preceded by an amalgamation of many different genres smuggled to Goa in tape format by true music devotees that filtered through all that was being produced in the West shaping a unique dancefloor sound that could only pertain to the “Special Goa Music” genre. Sound Metaphors teams up with Transmigration and journalist, DJ and first hand witness of the scene at hand - Ray Castle – to present a meticulous body of research into the sound signature of that unique scene. 11 highly sought after tracks presented in a double LP gatefold format with an A1 poster insert and insightful liner notes by Ray Castle. Maara makes seductively uninhibited, proggy dance music. In fact, she’s quickly becoming one of its foremost exponents. Barely pausing for breath between releases, ‘Spiral 2 the Other Side’ finds the Montreal artist summoning divine feminine frequencies with a hypnotic, ritual-ready 4-tracker. Some Maara productions are shot through with an almost radiant optimism, but here, darkroom throb prevails. Big on the gated vocals, ‘Spiral 2 the Other Side’ achieves cybernetic sensuality through trippy, moiré-d electro, while ‘Take the Wheel Miss Sweetie’, with its driving, fathoms-deep approach, provides a direct take on the blueprint. The Canadian assumes the role of high priestess on the flip. ‘Forget the world’ is a ritual incantation for bridging seen and unseen worlds; prog house magick with shades of ‘90s trance utopia. Rounding things off with a tunnelling electro tripper, ‘Doom Quest’ references the vortex-dwelling atmospherics of early tribal modes to mind-altering effect.

Platipus needs no introduction for anyone in the dance music business. Still going strong after 30 years, the label boasts loads of classics in the trance and progressive firmament. To celebrate this anniversary a special series of 12 collectible vinyls will be released over the next year. The opening release contains 2 killer classics by Union Jack with Caspar Pound’s remix of the classic Two Full Moons And A Trout, in addition, Cygnus X’s anthemic remix of Art Of Trance’s Madagascar is also part of this release backed with a more recent track in the sound of today by label head honcho Simon Berry in collaboration with Luke Brancaccio & Kiki Cave. Topped with Adam Dived’s Into The Sea, this forms a great starting point.

Utopia Originals kicks off with a brilliant first real which revives some early progressive and trance sounds from 1993. They still sound right on point today which shows what a visionary Michel Spiegel aka Nuw idol really was. Originally released in 1994. L.S.G.'s 'Blueprint EP', containing "Hearts" and "Blueprint" remains an undisputed reference for a whole musical genre. It was one of the most successful releases at the time and indeed a blueprint for things to come. The man behind L.S.G. and other projects is Oliver Lieb, one of the most talented producers of electronic music. The two tracks perfectly showcase L.S.G.'s eerie sound creations in a perfect production and all his science works at its finest in this EP. "Hearts" is a heart-breaking tune with a distorted line and a melancholic harp evolving. "Blueprint" adds even more depth, tension and mystery before launching its amazingly gated synths and this famous little melody. It's unbelievable how perfect the sounds are, both on the musicality/harmony and mixing/mastering. Out of print on vinyl for almost 25 years here is the new official pressing - remastered by Oliver Lieb and on Colored Vinyl.

Blue Hour Music welcomes French artist Mathys Lenne for his debut EP as ‘The Scan’ - his go to alias for classic techno. Titled ‘Callgroove’ the record features four functional and highly seductive DJ tools aimed at darkly-lit dance floors. Layers graciously build a wall of sound that can’t be broken down; splintered shakers flicker above board whilst demonic vocal blurs act as rhythmic counterparts. Mor Elian’s dystopian leaning rendition still holds some stealthily euphoric aura, the heavy handed machine drum freakout a brain scattering rendering on speed. The B Side stands alone tall and proud; Larp feels like a climax at the party. Sirens flaring high as hell, the rise and fall of the bassline bouncing in tandem with driving drums, only stopping for a dramatic drumroll. An essential to top off a seriously stunning first record from Drua, get it before he blows up!

Lost Legion Collective was operative from 1990 till 1998. Its epicenter was in Bologna, Italy. The collective released music worldwide on seminal labels like Nation Records, San Francisco's Silent Records and Wig Wam, next to artists like Drome and Transglobal Underground. Definitely inspired but what was going on in the UK (probably the musical middle point between earth and other worlds), the crew brang a new and unique contribution to the Italian music scene, releasing from highly energetic Trance to deep drumless alienoid excursions. An imaginary bizarre meeting between John Cage, The Orb and Charlie Mariano. This EP puts together some of their best productions, some of them only released on cd.

After his successful debut the spanish producer Nuclear Waste returns for the second release on Impakto Records, the Unusual Systems Records sub label focused on early/mid 90s underground club/warehouse music sounds: techno, trance, acid, bleeps, breaks, progressive house...

A side contains two dancefloor nuclear weapons. "Nuclear Acid" with cured killer 303 basslines, sonic bleeps and chaotic sampled vocals to rave the world. "Pastillas de Freno" Fat bass and bleeps on this one with craziest spanish sampled vocals, remind us to the Sheffield's bleep techno golden era with an electro touch. "Living in the junk" opening the B side with 80's drums, an eclectic arpeggiated melody and reverberated bleeps. "Goodbye" close this killer EP with electro to techno drum patterns changes and spacy bleeps.

A retrospective double LP compilation of the work of dutch producer Aad De Mooy. Specifically focusing on the first half of the 90's with his aliases as Interface, Time Warp and Paradise 3001 on ESP Records. This compilation attempts to encapsulate and expose the masterful prowess of Aad's work as a producer with a focus on maximum dancefloor efficiency. This double LP consists of 10 tracks ranging from downtempo acidic breaky chuggers to full on floor activators channeling tribal and early progressive trance inducing elements perfectly arranged in highly effective compositions. Can't go wrong – all killer no filler is all one can say about Aad's meticulous productions. Compiled by Castro & Nemo and re-mastered for vinyl at manmade mastering.

Rushing us headlong into a vorticist maelstrom of hard-edged drum stutter and polychromatic synth fragmentation, Sansibar sophomore long-player for Kalahari Oyster Cult - “Sans Musique” - tackles the very essence of post-trancey, breaks-loaded UK blends with unabashed joy to wreak havoc on his path. Throughout seven tracks oozing burnt kerosene and depleted uranium residue merged with a hint of sacred incense, Sansibar deploys his extra-wide vision for the present and future of dance music. “Scully” attacks pedal to the metal, hi-intensity bass onslaughts and knee-buckling breaks roaring as the groove slings us at bullet-speed into a hot, narrow barrel of floor-focused aggression. Fusing rattling DnB engineering with Goa trance motifs, “Force of Equilibrium” showcases Sansibar’s hybrid attachment to functionality and headspace fractalisation. Hi-velocity rimshots, pep vox samples and alien basslines blazing, “nrj” eases us into a shape-shifting network of underground tunnels dwelled by shady raving creatures, harking back to Prodigy’s early wares and subsequent offshoots of the 90s era. One to bend your mind to, “Teal’c” taps into an even darker vein with its fast-cascading hats and von Oswald-ian dub whirlwind set against a surgically laid-down, unstoppable EBM bass comber. Jagged and oneiric to the finest extent, “Send It” peeps at prime Hokusai and Photek material in its first stretch, slowly making room for further spacious liquid junglism as bars run by. Cranking the 2-step/garage power levels up a notch, “Fantasmas” sends us spinning into orbit right away, while the LP’s closing track “Aurora” takes us on a languidly serene voyage of a finale, tempo slowed-down and suave trip-hop flavours exuding with increased sensitiveness. Hailing from Helsinki, Finland, Sansibar is a non-pareil cosmic traveller - also producer, resident DJ at Kaiku and Post Bar and wave agitator on IDA Radio and EOS Radio - whose genre-unbound sound credentials for the likes of Kalahari Oyster Cult, Natural Sciences, Émotsiya, Darknet, Avoidance et al. have helped establish as one of today’s most intriguing talents in the European scene.

Nothing Lasts But Nothing Is Lost was the 3rd incredible installation of the Shpongle epic released in 2005 on Twisted Records. Now remastered for 2019. It proved to be yet another masterclass in the psychedelic fusion of the worlds between musical genre and sonic geometry. The fourth release on Superstition Records and especially the included “Schöneberg” was suddenly heavily championed in the Benelux and UK, e.g. by Tony De Vit (rip) @ legendary London’s Turnmills @ Trade events and soon became a legendary status as one of the biggest House or Tech-House hymns of its time, celebrated in the best clubs by the most renowned DJs worldwide. But this E.P. has much more to offer, Marcos Lopez and Mijk can Dijk managed to capture the very open minded spirit vibes and energy of the early 90s of Berlin in four different and special tracks. “T-Dancer"for example is Berlin’s Hi-Nrg answer to the East Coast House and was simply the hymn of the Gay-T-Dance scene worldwide. About Marmion: Mijk van Dijk and Marcos Lopez met each other in 1986 when both did their academics at FU Berlin. Marcos Lopez was yet working as a DJ at several Berlin clubs and was also the moderator at the Eastern-Germany based cult-radio station “DT 64″ with the legendary programme “Nightflight". Mijk van Dijk worked as a music journalist for magazines like “Frontpage", “cut", “HYPE!", “Network Press". In 1990 he released his first record on the Berlin based Low Spirit label (LoopZone, Hate/Les enfants du paradies). For the Berlin Bash-records he produced in 1991 solo and together with DJ Tanith different 12″s, before he found a constant base at the also Berlin based MFS label with projects like Microglobe, LoopZone and Mindgear and on Superstition Records with his Mijk VAN Dijk projects.

While digging for music at Snickars records in Stockholm, local producer, DJ and promoter Maya Lourenco aka Parallax Deep came across two classic goa/psy tracks. These were ‘Gobi Desert’ by 100th Monkey & Tristan (released on Matsuri Productions in 1995) and ‘Bunker’ by Four Carry Nuts (released on Aurinko Records in 2000). She took the records home and began working on creating her own edits by expertly slicing and re-arranging different sections of the tracks and coming up with her own unique versions staying true to the original identity, giving new life to two classics from decades past.

Familiar Strangers founder Remotif heralds the 30th release, complete with a digital-only remix from Youandewan. The first half finds the Bristol mainstay at his deadliest. Harnessing pure proggy momentum, peak-time scorcher ‘In the Blink of a Cosmic’ comes hurtling out the tracks. ‘It’s Inside U’ then keeps pace with more of that driving, fractal pressure. Tunnelling wormhole torque straight out the nether-realm. Comparatively restrained but no-less mind-altering, the B-side embarks on a full-blown vision quest. Where breaks-fuelled cut ‘For Love or Money’ nods to early ‘90s bleep, ‘In The Möbius Strip Club’ ushers into a chugging, ritual-ready space. Proper third-eye dilating stuff.
