Introducing Paris-based contemporary sculptor and music maker Erwan Sene joining the exponential Unknown Precept roster. Gathering pieces thought of as little narratives for his debut release, not without a bit French irony around the concept of work, ‘I Heard You Laughing’ wavers towards mechanical repetition and something more outdated at times. Purposely slowing down the tempo to fit the apparent redundancy of an industrial environment and its steadily running engines. An eroded atmosphere of sorts, analogous to the smokestacks emanating from factory chimneys. Accentuating the ambiguity of a wild thought which is hard to grasp. Despite its machine-driven aspect, Sene primary questions the difficulty to manage one’s life stuck in a primitive mindset, making intuitive associations in a grid pattern. Carbon copy music for the tangled minds out there, leaving room for nothing but sedated feelings.

Amsterdam’s worst kept secret makes it back to Unknown Precept with his long-awaited album and first solo output since the acclaimed ‘Divine Bovine’ tape mini-album. Inspired by an evening spent in a restaurant next to a car demolition site, Eindkrak’s long player debut echoes the distant sound of steel being crushed and cars pressed into cubes. All this noise, in combination with the taste of good Italian food, lead to the eleven tracks making up for the aptly titled ‘Brullend Staal’ — loosely translated to weeping steel. A leisurely stroll on crumpled metal sheets, the acidic hints of oxidized metal and the smell of gasoline. Inaudible and distorted vocals as if smothered by the clatter and smokestacks of steel factories. Eindkrak’s first full-length is all about this disquietude made of melted and straightened scrap metal. A resounding and tumultuous din. Try to eat some nice gnocchis while listening to this album, and you’ll see what it is all about.

Fashion Flesh is the solo-output moniker of John Talaga, based in Bay City, USA, whose music first came to our attention back in 2016 with the release of an excellent 7-inch on Detroit’s Est. ’83 Records. He should have been in the Radiophonic Workshop, but he was in the wrong place, wrong decade. Instead, ‘Withdrawn’ comes as his first full-length album and makes up for the perfect introduction to Talaga’s synthesis of original and plasticized melodic collages, birthed from the guts of hand built exotic electronics and various audio devices — built from one’s own design and heavily modified beyond audible recognition or return. From torn memories of pleasant dreams to plasticine free jazz sculptures, wavey electro cuts squealing like rubber tyres and pop hallucinations, Fashion Flesh highlights the beauty of confusion and anxiety throughout the breathing and illusive meanderings of his tape manipulations and hard copy cut-ups.

Santiago Leyba makes his vinyl debut on the label following the Rooms tape released earlier this year. Recorded simultaneously, Life, Money, Work shows the New York-based artist by way of Albuquerque, New Mexico, portraying the different characters one might have in a broken mind. Sketching a strong criticism of America by means of disorienting vocals and slow-paced D.I.Y. electronics, SANTIAGO finds him performing alter-egos of sorts — ranging from forlorn ballad singing, to more guttural and strained barking seeking to describe a conflict in maintaining a unified persona. Paid labor, sex, and consumer goods. How America tells you to grow up when there is nothing left but complacency and oppression through economic and social means. It all goes down to the shortcomings of humanity, the tangled webs we weave, the impossibility of justice and fairness, and the pressure those things put upon ourselves.

Joining the Unknown Precept forces are C.G.I. Records’ label head Matthew Wei- ner teaming up with Christopher Daresta as Pyramid Club. Being known for their T.W.I.N.S. and Anticipation solo activities, Cyclic Obsession comes as the debut re-lease of the four-handed formation taking its name from the eponymous venue which helped define the counterculture and queer sound of lower Manhattan in the late 70’s. Recorded in their stronghold of Atlanta following a handful of tracks released via the jointly-operated D.K.A. Records, it shows the duo taking over primitive body music in its most physical and psychedelic dimension. Thick as a brick bass lines for the basement turmoil reflecting the hazy vortex smoldering out of an ill-lighted nightclub. Think of spasmodic synth-driven tunes interspersed by convulsive vocals and throbbing snares, in which one could see the whites of the dancers’ eyes right before the lights turn back on.

Welcoming back our early label recrute Maoupa Mazzocchetti delivering the long-awaited follow-up to both his debut releases on Unknown Precept. Emerging back in 2014 to then become an esteemed music maker in the inner-circles of the underground community, the Brussels’ based sound artisan quickly established himself as a complete artist made of a peculiar and inexhaustible surge of inspiration — always making sure to stay off the beaten paths while exploring the nooks and crannies of his disturbed and facetious mindset throughout his latest productions. Infinite Glance Court is a condensation of this diverse inventiveness, an intimate and minimalist journey borrowing as much from John Bender as the European dance tradition of the late 1980s. It shows the French producer asserting once again the essence of what makes his brazen style thanks to the dancing jokes and corroded ballads which he alone holds the secret of.

IXVLF is back at it again following the Language Of mini-album released earlier this year as part of our ongoing tape series. Pushing it further from where we last left off, Connor Clasen’s vinyl debut reflects our ever growing desire to re-interpret club music in its most primitive and cartilaginous nature. While cleverly obscuring any reference to a specific period of time, Involuntary Movement shows a sense of the American-based producer stretching disorienting imagery over the existing landscape of proto-industrial.

Miami ex-patriate Alexander Suàrez debuts on Unknown Precept with A Los Mártires. Conceived as an ode to those who spilt their blood in vane for political ideologies that failed them and countries that were never their homes, the five tracks that make up the release show the Brooklyn-based producer sinking into odd techno hybrids manipulation; shooting down unrestrained grooves, rusty samples, satured vocals while excavating lush sound exploration tinged by local folklore and grievous metallic tones.

Known for his venturesome take on industrial music, Philadelphia’s Noah Anthony — member of the wrenching experimental outfits Form a Log and Social Junk — adds a more straightforward tone to his discography and hustles the common codes to sketch new ones along his first release for the label. Jumping from jerky filtered beat driven tunes to more hostile squeaky pieces, Extremities highlights the clash between convulsive rhythms and spasmodic sounds, hammering and twisting the tempo throughout unforgiving techno grooves. The whole release sets a very contemporary look on modern electronic music — in between enjoyable aggression and permissive ingenuity.
