The original LGB5 artwork has been reinterpreted by themselves to give the regular pressing a unique look and feel.Responsible for the beats on the album, the instrumentals between tracks work magically, creating a good mix between beats and lyrics for an album intended to showcase Kanzulu's production skills. Lots of jazzy compositions here, complete with trumpets, classical guitars, flutes, organs, rolling basslines, and some classy MCs. The Visionaries, Krondon, Planet Asia, Declaime, Phil da Agony, Dr. Oop, and Wildchild from Lootpack all drop verses. Overall, this album was well thought out and put together, an enticing combination.Kan Kick is a hip-hop producer from Oxnard, CA. He was once a member of Lootpack, but has gone on to work with Declaime, Tha Alkaholiks, and DJ Babu, among others.

Their debut LP, “Native Faces”, is a vivid reflection of the Tidewater Region; an area surrounded by beaches and military installations. This stark contrast influences a sound that is both rugged and beautiful. Cinoface’s production has an ambient, ethereal quality that manages to capture the essence of boom bap, as well as stretch the boundaries of tradition. Native Sun provides a polished, versatile delivery which allows him to display his lyrical complexity without losing his grasp of the moment on each track. The Native Faces project is truly a perfect blend of both progression and preservation.

As music continuously evolves, times change and new ideas and movements come & go. All of this functions in tandem with scientific, technological, social and political advancements in our society. The biggest component to that evolution is the people. There are creators and consumers. One cannot exist without the other. Throughout art, the audience defines quality, but artist has the power to introduce change and shift perception. Execution is key. The masses are always hungry for something fresh. Sometimes we're at the forefront of new trends and sometimes we find comfort innovating the past. No matter what, musicians have a responsibility to bridge the gap. Raw Poetic and Damu the Fudgemunk meet all of the above. Produced entirely by the artists, the new album "The Reflecting Sea" revisits sonic textures of yesteryear and combined with their own distinct ears for music, have created something uniquely foreign for the music world in our time. Speaking of the times, Raw Poetic's lyrical subject matter is nothing short of relevancy. Speaking from an observatory perspective in addition to his own personal experiences, the album's content is infinitely relatable.Although known primarily as hip hop acts, both Damu and Raw P stretched out to expand what the genre is known for. The combination of elements from the mix of live instrumentation, improvisation and sampling to the range of styles including jazz, fusion, rock, electronic and soul make The Reflecting Sea unlike anything else. Captured and recorded in it's rawest form, the album is honest expression. Masterminding the festival sounds is Damu the Fudgemunk. His voice is absent from the recordings, but his presence is immediately noticed throughout the 40 minute exhibition. Packed with tons of beats, tons of scratching, original compositions, upbeat and signature atmosphere, there's no question who's behind the boards. With the average tempo of over 100bpm, this is one of the most energetic releases in Redefinition's catalog. Raw P and the Fudgemunk aim to revitalize listeners of all types with their original sound. They call it "The Reflecting Sea: Welcome to a New Philosophy."Raw Poetic (MC), hails from the DMV area by way of Philadelphia. In addition to several collaborations with Damu the Fudgemunk, he's recorded 6 albums as a member of Panacea, 1 album with K-def, 1 album with Kev Brown and recent features with Brous One in which all have been met with critical acclaim.Damu the Fudgemunk (producer/DJ) is a DC native who co-owns and operates Redefinition Records. With several successful releases as a solo artist, his music has garnered a reputation in the last decade for it's consistent quality and conceptual structure.

From Columbus and Pittsburgh, so many flyers had been distributed that it was almost impossible to take a step without noticing those abandoned on the sidewalk. Drawn in an anarchic way, cables ran along the streets to the place requisitioned for the event. It was necessary to feed the walls of speakers which, in due course, would spit heavy basses and would make the dancers go wild. In the surrounding stores, the first suspicious disappearances of spraycans had been reported, one could see B-Boys pass a lino roll under the arm. Sparkling sneakers and dance sequences, scratching and beat juggling, throw up and burning, everyone knew what he was doing there since the duo Lone Catalysts had announced the color: CULTURE was going to celebrate the Hip Hop in its five declensions. From graffiti to beatboxing, from deejaying to dancing with, above the debates, its most visible part of all: RAP. Swiftly using the scalpel in his collection of jazz, soul and funk records, distributing the strikes on his MPC, J. Rawls had given furiously organic colors to his 90s productions full of asperities. In his book, J. Sands' rhymes were all devoted to glorious, immortal, competitor and competitive Hip Hop.

Limited edition of 500 copies on white vinyl, exclusively available at the Redef Shop and hhv.de!“Developing the brain, always measure the aim, feeling pleasant in the present things could never be the same.” - InsightWith great excitement, Redefinition Records is proud to release the latest project from one of hip hop's most multi-talented artists. Making his Redefinition Records feature album debut, Insight the Truncator aka Andre Todman returns to the spotlight with a new album after a departure from the industry in recent years. Where was he and what was he up to? Well after a decade and a half in the business, dozens of respected records, countless national and international tours, Insight took a well deserved hiatus to try other endeavors such as app development, electronics and social media strategizing in which he found major success. This shouldn't surprise longtime fans who may remember in as early as 1997, Insight created his own website, Insight.fm which even featured an interactive SP1200 and forums. (pre-social media and long before having a web presence was was on most artist’s agendas). Building a strong reputation for his live performance, his on-stage capabilities included not only rapping, but also producing, DJing and simultaneous live drawing. The triple threat from Boston (MC, DJ and producer) has dedicated his life to his creativity and name, catalog and content are a true testament to the kind person Insight is on and off of his recordings. Credited for mentoring and being instrumental in the career beginnings of many of today's staples in Boston Hip Hop and beyond, he also assisted a young D.C. native Damu the Fudgemunk, who later matured into an esteemed solo artist in his own right (and co-owner of Redefinition records). The 2 would first collaborate on one of the greatest hip hop albums of the 2000's as Y Society on 2007's full length, Travel at Your Own Pace. As a result, they formed a brotherhood that today is well into its second decade, bookmarked by this latest release. On Ears Hear Spears, “The Truncator” passionately speaks his mind through rhyme as The Fudgemunk handles all production. Insight offered the following thoughts about the album: "Ears Hear Spears is a milestone in my life that reflects an intersection of so many paths. I had been living in Berlin and was frequently touring at the time for a 4 year stretch. I was just preparing to move back to the US. It was ’07 and the first generation iPhone was released so I started getting into app development, as the music industry was very rapidly changing. As an American under the Bush presidency, I had a lot on my mind. I had only met Damu once at a show in 2004, but we kept in contact for several years prior to our first collaboration. He called me with an album concept and a potential deal with Tres Records. I was on board and felt a responsibility to honestly express myself. We turned in Ears, however, we were shut down at the time by the label (Tres Records, now defunct). They simply said that this album was not what they wanted and expected from us. Damu and I only took about 10 days to do it, but instead of revising it, we shelved it. We quickly recorded a whole new album for label approval (Travel At Your Own Pace). Travel was released and time went on. Over the years, Ears became foreign to me. It got to a point where it seemed like my past speaking to my present. The album discusses the importance of togetherness, using your mind, not being manipulated by the music industry to represent ignorance and yet maintain rawness. Opportunities were limited due to the content in which some suggested was irrelevant and unmarketable. As time progressed, inequality, racism and ignorance moved to the forefront; dominating news and the rising usage of social media. This album became more relevant as time went by. It feels as if it is a duty to release it, before I release the new projects I have planned for the near future. Rather than just point out the negative, hopefully it can help us to find ways to cope and move our mind to a better place." InsightEars Hear Spears is the full length counterpart to Insight & Damu’s 45 single "Know the Meaning” Remix. Considering the state of the world as we know it today, Insight’s lyrics couldn't possibly be any more relevant and timely than they are right now. This is especially notable being that the album was initially recorded in ’07 (it was unreleased until now). Throughout 10 outstanding tracks Insight delivers a diverse lyrical exhibition over a then 20-21 year old Damu the Fudgemunk's beats. There's an undeniable level of directness and sincerity in his lyrics which are artfully assembled in a manner that will astonish literary buffs, yet permeate the lives of everyday listeners alike.

Thus stated Special Ed, on his 1989 smash hit, “I Got It Made.” And he backed up that brag throughout histrademark anthem, which featured laid-back brags that MCs a half-decade his senior couldn’t mess with. The Brooklyn MC was only 16 when it was released, making him one of the youngest rappers – especiallyat the time, before the 90s brought us Kris Kross and Lil Bow Wow – to ever have a hip-hop hit. The songitself, which floated over a perfectly hooked up slice of Ripple’s “I Don’t Know What It Is, But It Sure Is Funky,” was produced by Hitman Howie Tee, who also made waves in the late ‘80s with his cousin, Chubb Rock. When Ed and Howie combined, it was a match made in heaven, and the song exploded in New Yorkbefore taking over worldwide. Eventually becoming sample fodder on dozens of later songs – from Fat Joeto Kendrick Lamar – the track still invokes heavy head-nods today from crowds of all ages. Also included on this special 7-inch is the “Businesslike Version” of the song (also produced by Howie),which also appeared on the original 12-inch. Featuring a minimal, synth-driven backdrop and a quickerpace, it offers an excellent new way to experience Ed’s forward-thinking lyricism. This unique, deluxe “big hole” 7-inch comes housed in a custom Profile 45 jacket.

Cold Busted Records presents “Omnipotent” by Lanzo.Chicago’s Carington Pierre, also known as Lanzo, has bestowed evidence of his cosmic hip hop beatology to the Cold Busted label in the form of a new album, Omnipotent. Previously recording for BLVNT Records and the Natural Selection label, Lanzo specializes in a style of experimental hip hop that draws from boom-bap, soulful downtempo, and atmospheres that lean toward the celestial. Lanzo and his trusty MPC 1000 have been actively producing since 2008 and Omnipotent confirms his upward trajectory, presenting fifteen tasty sonic morsels that groove in a confident but abstract fashion.Highlights include “Comfort Zone” which envelopes a swinging rhythm in dreamy strings, distant voices, and rolling bass, and the odd but appealing “Gutter Balls”, featuring some deliciously drunken synths. There’s also the melancholy quiet storm of “Colours”, “Against The Wall” and its heavily processed beat magic, and the loping sci-fi jazz of “Between Friends”. Omnipotent is a heady listen, displaying textures and swirls that accentuate the sturdiness of its drum beats. Lanzo has provided a distinctive soundtrack that’s ready-made for day blazing or night groovin’.

Hip hop is an art form and culture that is constantly changing. Musically speaking, new technology and the latest trends have a very real influence on the records released from year to year. It's easy to get caught up in the pop culture hype machine and triplet beats that currently dominate rap. Trends come and go, but the proven elements of hip hop music will continue to be relevant for years to come. For instance, MC's that spit ferocious bars over dusty, head-splitting beats will never go out of style. Enter Detroit's Nolan The Ninja and his latest record, YEN.Released on DJ Soko's imprint, Left Of Center (LOC), YEN picks up where Nolan's earlier projects left off. Nolan, who has been gaining momentum in Detroit and beyond, continues to demonstrate his ability to rip a microphone. Underneath Nolan's agile delivery is an element of storytelling that is sometimes lost in rap. From Nolan's rhymes to guest appearances by Blu, Add-2, Denmark Vessey, and Quelle Chris, there is no shortage of heavy bars on YEN. "Calisthenics," which features Royce Da 5'9, is an exceptional track that showcases Royce's talent and lyrical depth. With stand out production from Black Milk, 14KT, Chanes, Denmark Vessey, Scud One, and Nolan himself, YEN is 17 tracks of non-stop heat that creates the perfect backdrop for Nolan's strong delivery. While certain trends in hip hop move one way, it's clear that Nolan The Ninja is content going the other direction. His new album isn't reliant on catchy hooks, trap beats or the glorification of party culture. Instead, YEN is a combination of heavy bars and head-splitting beats that accurately reflects Nolan's perspective and life experiences. YEN exemplifies the type of music that will remain relevant even after the current trends have faded and something new becomes popular.

In celebration of the 10th anniversary of “Force Fed” we have teamedup with Fat Beats to release this limited edition colored vinyl.“The debut album from Ide the Shanty One, “Force Fed” is a verbalmaelstrom whipping through the placid seas of 21st centuryunderground hip-hop with thunderous beats and lightning-strike lyrics.Ide displays his furious command of the mic over 23 dark and stormingbeats, his imaginative and visceral word-warping and unrelenting ?owstriking listeners with gut-punch directness. Following Jak Progresso’s“Random Violence” as the 2nd full-length release from Creative JuicesMusic, “Force Fed” heralds the charge of this new artist onto the NYunderground scene: Ide the Shanty One. Already earning respect forexpert production and engineering for various underground artists, nowIde brings forth this manifesto of disgust and impatience with a twistedculture and reminds listeners why hip-hop is NOT dead. Throughout hisfrst lp, he avoids lecturing about society directly but instead proclaimsthis gritty mission statement championing subversive artistry andpsychic exploration. This Creative Juices Music release gathers a totalof 10 producers, including Domingo, Deep and Ben Boogz (2 HungryBro’s/Creative Juices), DJ Connect (Elite Fleet), and others, as well asIde himself, yet projects a unifed sonic stampede of steel-toed hip-hop.Joining The Shanty One on the mic are U.G. (Cella Dwellas), SavageMessiah (formerly of Scienz of Life), Critical, Madness, Alucard, JakProgresso, and L.I.F.E.Long (Stronghold), all contributing cinematicsimiles in an unrelenting ?ood. Ide’s “Force Fed” is compelling inits ferocity, and ftting that he is initiating his chapter in music in thecompany of these well-known fgures on the underground scene.”ForceFed” is for hungry listeners, who’ve had enough of the formula, anddon’t mind a little pain if their rap would only get its edge back. Thisbrazen debut album from Ide the Shanty One is a sure classic for 2007and another strong product from the Creative Juices Music label.

Having released tracks with Mr. Lif, Lyrics Born, Edan, P.E.A.C.E (Freestyle Fellowship), Rammellzee (RIP) & Shockdell (which Tricky sampled for his 2014 released song "Lonnie Listen"), Whitefield is no stranger to working with MC´s.On "What Remains" he teams up with Phluid, who let´s loose about our world going down over raw fuzzy live beats. (Emcee) M.I. and producer DJ Cutt return a year after releasing the critically acclaimed “Avant Garde” with a new album and concept. The duo who have further developed their creative enterprises to incorporate film production as part of their ever expanding SIX2SIX organization have drawn from their respective Italian and Russian heritages to adopt the personas of Luciano and Lansky in the new album “Omerta”.Describing the approach, M.I. explains “It’s to put a little of the fun back into hip hop, not just throwing out beats and bars. A return to the days where the focus was on entertainment, relating imaginative stories and putting more emphasis on actual songwriting.”The 13 tracks are a series of vignettes set in a metaphorical criminal underworld They depict familiar times, events and cultural reference points as a formula for conveying parallel meaning.Such imagery has been used by rappers for decades, eager to portray a glorified vision of themselves, but M.I. is a man on a different mission, adding “I’m not endorsing a lifestyle or suggesting this is who I am in any literal sense. I wanted to address this subject in a more intelligent way, compare mindsets and situations in a broader dynamic.”

All songs are edited, mixed and mastered by Belgian company Catharsis Productions.Reap’s first official release was the collaboration with Chillow on a full length LP (Reap ‘n Chillow, “NY2BE”) after meeting through a mutual friend & simply feeling each other’s vibe. Reap started rhyming in junior high school 168 in Flushing Queens after a friend engaged him with a freestyle. Reap went home and wrote a rhyme to recite the following day at school. Although already a fan of Hiphop. Reap never heard someone say a rap live so it inspired him. As a part of many groups and duos growing up and rhyming in as a hundred ciphers a day (no exaggeration) Reap honed his skills. “The Naturaw EP” is a Hiphop, soul genre featuring Kool G Rap, Jeffrey Jefferson (BE), Timon Mattelaer (BE).The result is hard hitting drums. Soulful rhythms & witty slick vocals!!!

Resolution Clear Vinyl Edition
LP | 2017 | US | Original (Mello Music Group)
25,64 €* 26,99 € -5%
Release:2017 / US – Original
Genre:Hip Hop
Released on Mello Music Group, “Resolution” is one of those timeless records. The first full-length from Mr. Lif & Akrobatik (The Perceptionists) in a dozen years reflects the struggles and near-death sagas that struck Mr. Lif and Akrobatik. During that span, Lif miraculously survived his tour bus plummeting over a cliff and bursting into flames. Akrobatik weathered a sudden aortic rupture and emergency open-heart surgery. The impact of those experiences forced the former Def Jux duo to contemplate fate, luck, and their own place within a world spinning out of control. But their ability to survive has allowed them to thrive. They’ve harnessed a radiant hard-won optimism that refuses to flinch from the evils of existence. From the album’s first track, “Early Mourning,” Akrobatik asserts that courage comes from within, but reflects on the millions of young black men sent to premature graves. He considers whether gang affiliation is inherent in their souls, or more likely, whether things would be different if these neighborhoods were well lit and effectively policed. If turmoil and inequity currently wrack the globe at record levels, Lif’s verses seem more prophetic than ever. His verses offer searing indictments of corporate and political corruption: corporations oppressing local farms, governmental duplicity in dealing with big pharmaceutical companies, and the crooked brutality of cops who get away with shooting unarmed black men.On “Hose Down,” the pair brilliantly intersperse news reports from the MLK-led Birmingham protests of 1963 with the internecine problems of the present—where a traffic stop can still lead to a funeral. It’s as poignant of a polemic as you’ll find, but blended with a danceable Caribbean lilt. With the Perceptionists, the personal is political and vice-versa. Akrobatik rhymes about his “desire to breathe in the sun before my skin dries out” but still refuses to be “the coward in a pretend hide out.” On “Lemme Find Out,” they kick ingeniously sinister dystopian horror raps about our grotesque addiction to technology. There are love songs over beats that sound like they could’ve been on Madvillainy, stories of cypher demolitions of would-be challengers, and dirty ass rhymes over dirty ass drums—as The Perceptionists sagely insist, that’s all the world really wants. It’s music from deep in the trenches, songs that confront the blitzkrieg of bad news but offer light at the end of the bombardment. If you listen closely, you can intuit a profound story of friendship and camaraderie between Lif and Akrobatik—lifelong friends trading bars with the chemistry of Tip and Phife, Andre and Big Boi, Erick and Parrish. They’re mortal men who made mistakes, gained experience, and obtained wisdom. This is “Resolution”.

Limited edition CD!Back to the most requested project on Chopped Herring - the Natural Elements series!! L-Swift, Mr Voodoo, KA and on the boards beatmaker extraordinaire, Charlemagne? It took a lot of time to dig up the Lost Demos material. None of the group had any of the old tracks. Some of these joints appeared on the boys 1995 Def Jam Demo tape. These were sourced from unreleased DATs and hard-to-dig demo tapes. The CD contains 5 vocal tracks and 4 instrumentals. Before materializing as an official group, the Natural Elements were originally conceived as a group of solo artists brought together in 1993 under the tutelage of producer Charlemagne. This initial grouping, whose members were initially signed to Fortress Records, included members Mr. Voodoo, L-Swift, KA, G-Blass, Howie Smalls and the InTimidator. By 1995, however, membership slimmed to include only Mr. Voodoo, L-Swift and the newly-added A-Butta. The trio's countless appearances on the NYC freestyle and mixtape circuits culminated with a record deal on the Tommy Boy Black sublabel and the release of the single "2 Tons" in 1999. Although the highly-anticipated NE album was completed, problems with Tommy Boy shelved the project and the album never saw the light of day.

2LP | 2017 | US | Original (Fat Beats)

Release:2017 / US – Original
Genre:Hip Hop
Composed of members Buckshot, 5ft, and DJ Evil Dee, Black Moon simultaneously kicked off and defined the rap renaissance of New York with the release of Enta Da Stage in 1993. Whereas plenty of earlier groups had spit rage-filled rhymes to tear down the world's unjust establishments, no one had evoked brooding pathos or introspective anger quite like Black Moon. Underground hip-hop might have been dominated by the sunny sound of G-Funk when Enta Da Stage dropped, but from then on the scene turned to the dark side. Black Moon was rising.Earlier this year, Fat Beats Records presented the definitive Enta Da Stage box set, which was reissued for the first time across three formats (6xLP, 3xCD and 3xCassette). This album is the complete encapsulation of an era for anyone seeking to understand the origin and the essence of New York's Golden Age.The box set included vocals, instrumentals and remixes plus extensive liner notes by David Ma (Pitchfork, Wax Poetics) with rare and unreleased visual ephemera in an 18 page booklet. The story of Black Moon, alongside their peers Biggie, Big L, Nas, Kool G Rap, and Wu Tang, reminds us that the bleakest times produce the most profound agents of cultural change. And as we stand at the precipice of a new age of anxiety, Enta Da Stage has never been more relevant... or more necessary.Although Black Moon would go on to release three more albums – and its members would go on to greatness with Da Beatminerz, Boot Camp Klik, and various solo projects – Enta Da Stage remains the perfect distillation of tight lyrical menace, rowdy crew hooks, stripped down breaks, and deep basslines on all of its fourteen tracks. Although Enta Da Stagemight stand in the shadow of East Coast albums such as Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), Illmatic, Liquid Swords, Ready to Die, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx , and The Infamous , history will remember that Enta Da Stage preceded those releases. To understand Enta Da Stage is to understand the origin and the spirit of New York hip-hop once and for all.

When it comes to authentic, ride-or-die hip-hop, few crews have as much resonance as Mobb Deep. Featuring two double-threat MCs who alsoproduced – Havoc and the sadly-departed Prodigy – the crew changed the hardcore rap game in 1995 with their sophomore classic The Infamous, and went on to rule the dark corners of hip-hop for the second half of the 90s and well into the 2000s.After multiple Mobb Deep platters in the ‘90s, Prodigy entered the 2000s as a solo artist with force, rolling over a stomping, piano-freaked backdroplaced by producer The Alchemist, with “Keep It Thoro.” It has held up over time, proving itself as an anthemic classic that the streets and clubs still respect.Flaunting a smooth-but-menacing flow, Prodigy’s no-nonsense lyricism on “Keep It Thoro” is prototypical modern age brag rap. Countless MCshave followed his flow, from Fabolous to Joey Bada$$. The song is short and sweet, clocking in at just over 3 minutes. There are no wasted verses, just hardcore rhymes that stay with you.But “Thoro” was the tip of the iceberg on what proved to be one of themore coveted rap full-lengths of the era. The album boasted othercharting singles, including “Rock Dat Shit” and “Y.B.E.” (featuring B.G.),but it can be argued that the album’s real gems are buried deeper.“Genesis,” “What U Rep” (featuring Noreaga) and “Three” are all sinisteryet pensive. “Wanna Be Thugs” and “Delt With The Bullshit” are strongand evocative Mobb Deep cuts, featuring production and vocals by Havoc. And alongside other standouts, perhaps the deepest cut of all – especiallyin light of Prodigy’s recent and way-too-soon passing due to complicationsfrom Sickle Cell Anemia – is “You Can Never Feel My Pain,” whichdetails the health issues and challenges this talented MC and producer hadbeen facing his whole life.H.N.I.C. was Prodigy’s first solo album, but it is perhaps his best. Amongfans he will never be forgotten, for his skills, his storytelling and hisno-B.S. approach to the art of MCing.

For Ro Spit and 14KT, they’ve built a small empire on their own as solo artists. Ro Spit has amassed a career spanning across 3 albums, 2 mixtapes, and countless of features including Royce Da 5’9”, Denaun Porter, Bun B, Freeway and Raheem DeVaughn just to name a few. Not to mention a reality TV show centered around his world famous brand Burn Rubber that was produced by Eminem. The production arm of RSXGLD, 14KT, is 8 albums deep into his career. KT has paired with some of the best in the game, having worked with a who’s who of today’s artists such as Roc Marciano, Danny Brown, Black Milk, Bun B, eLZhi, Oddisee, Skyzoo, Jay Electronica, and even a collaboration album with his fellow Ann Arbor compadré Mayer Hawthorne as they formed the duo Jaded Inc. Nothing, however, in their respective discographies has sounded more organic and masterful than the combination of Ro and KT. “Every project that I’ve done he’s been a part of,” says Ro. “To be honest, he’s my favorite producer.” The chemistry they’ve been able to develop over the years is evident throughout Ro’s discography on tracks like “Leave Me Alone” taken from Octane & iLLite’s The Forgotten... Chosen and the Freeway featured “Forefeit” from Ro’s Glass Ceiling Project. It’s only right that the two have taken their time to create an organic piece of work unlike anything they’ve done before, set to debut this Fall on Fat Beats Records. “Leading up to this, my whole career, I intentionally didn’t show vulnerability. I didn’t want people to know about me,” Ro exclaims. RSXGLD is the lyrical maturation of Ro Spit while this group pushed 14KT to new creative levels sonically. “I’ve used Maschine for 3 years but I haven’t really come out with any projects making beats in this way. It was a totally new process for me,” KT notates. “Sonically, I’ve created in a way that I’ve never created before. It’s all different and out of my comfort zone.” This is a true, social experiment. This is music made from the soul that encompasses every aspect of the human experience. This is how you push beyond your limits. This is RSXGLD.

MAIDM is made up of musical pioneers Aim and Mikey D.O.N.Locked in the lab for as long as it took, they’re now set to share the first fruits of this miraculous merger. Presented on tasty 10” grape juice vinyl, MAIDM's opening statement boasts two hard hitting hip-hop home-runs, Tun Up Di Heat (Party Banger) and B-Boy Shit.Tun Up Di Heat (Party Banger) is an earth-quaking, bass speaker shaking introduction to how nice they are. A beatific blend of head down hip hop and funky, floor-filling accessibility, Tun Up… is the perfect introduction to MAIDM and it's precision manifesto.Flip to the flip side for second track B-Boy Shit, a track that eschews concession to commerce and takes no prisoners through minimalistic murk and hyper-aggressive vocals. Long forgotten legends are name-checked, old scores are settled, the dirty break-beat rolls on and hip-hop gains a fresh new anthem.MAIDM - Imagine the possibilities...

In a city famed for its disparate and varied musical excellence, the Detroit-based alignment of feted electronic artist and producer Shigeto aka Zach Saginaw and rapidly rising Bruiser Brigade member ZelooperZ is an entirely natural thing. Introduced by mutual friends in the city, an instant bond was formed, and ZGTO was born. A Piece Of The Geto is out August 4th on Ghostly International, with a limited edition vinyl pressing by Third Man Records. For Shigeto, this is the first time he's musically stepped out of the box of a solo artist and worked with a vocalist on a project. There is a ''less is more'' philosophy with the production where the vocals of ZelooperZ are seamlessly interlaced into the fabric of the beats. It's minimal in a sense, but the emotion felt through the words of ZelooperZ makes the songs as a whole intense and heavy with sentiment.

Junior Makhno sounds like the name of a destructive experimental virus still being studied in an obscure laboratory. If the very first premises of danger appeared at the end of the 90's, it was not until 2007 that the first victim was declared: Junior Makhno had just won a remix contest organized by Dj Muggs (Cypress Hill) annihilating the other contestants.Since then the rhythmic flail has never ceased to spread over Hip Hop, Increasing its vigor beat after beat to finally cross the Atlantic and contaminate the albums of Ill Bill, Goretex (Non Phixion), Vinnie Paz, Jedi Mind Tricks, or Diabolic. No bling, no sung hooks. No attempt of smoothed arrangements. With his soviet synthesizers, his beats from beyond the grave in which you can imagine swinging scalps coming straight from forgotten B-movies and his oppressing loops carved in soul music and war brass, the Makhno style oozes the street as well as post-apocalyptic moods.Any emcee thinking about rapping over one of his productions must give up any idea of humming or murmuring sweet nothings. So, when the time to disclose his devastating beats to the world has finally arrived, Junior Makhno releases an album under his own name and rallies behind him a cohort of emcees ready to brutalize the instrumental, skin the bassline, hit the bars without looking back, without worrying about the damages done. Ill Bill and Diabolic are still involved, joigning new enthusiasts like Lateb, Chief Kamachi, Dirt Platoon, Vic Spencer, Vendetta Kingz, Planet Asia, IDE & Alucard, Esoteric & Vakill.Rhyming while being perfused by a deleterious infusion applied by Junior Makhno, becoming voluntarily the actors of the fourteen tracks of Party discipline.Fourteen tracks kept under pressure by Dj Djaz & Dj Nix'On, fourteen suffocating joints where even instrumental breaks don't allow to have a life-saving breath of fresh air. Hope has packed up. Disfigured, Boom bap is on its knees, ready to receive its lethal injection.

Prince Paul hit Chopped Herring up to release this dope early 90's project!!The first incarnation of the group was formed around 1989 in Amityville, Long Island, New York, although the family grew up in Long Island. The family of four brothers (Anthony, Richard, Joel, and Edward) and one sister (Dawne), of which Anthony (Poetic) was the eldest, were born to Trinidadian parents who moved from Trinidad and Tobago in 1971, making their first residence in Queens, New York for a short time, then moving to Long Island. John Berkeley (a pastor and a local businessman) and Ela Berkeley (a homemaker, cook-nutritionist, and teacher) were both singers and artistic in general, and they encouraged artistic expression in their five children. The family was well-rounded musically, singing gospel and R&B up to their early teens all around New York, other states, and Canada as "The Berkeley Singers". Anthony (Poetic), Dawne, and Joel (Brainstorm) sang, accompanied by Richard on the drums and Eddie (E-Sharp) on the piano or keyboard.Poetic began rhyming in his early teens in Wyandanch, and was known by many names and building a name for himself as a lyrical battle MC. He changed his name to Poetic around 1985, and in 1986 he formed the crew known as Too Poetic, who in 1988-89 released a modestly popular single called: “God Made Me Funky/Poetical Terror”, under the DNA/Tommy Boy Music imprint. The group’s relationship with Tommy Boy Records eventually panned out for various reasons, scrapping the album and making Poetic very displeased, an early casualty of the politics of the music business. While Poetic was just beginning his formal hip hop career in 1987–89, Brainstorm was attending college at the State University of New York at Farmingdale, Long Island, where he was the roommate of Brooklyn’s own Super DJ Richie Rich (who had been in Third Base, Clark Kent’s Supermen, and the movie Juice). The university was host to many hip hop artists as visitors for parties and to do shows like Rakim, EPMD, Producer-Super DJ Clark Kent, and Biz Markie. After Brainstorm finished his college run in 1989, he took time to learn many aspects of the music business, but in 1989 he and Poetic mutually decided to pair up with a hardcore lyrical edge, original word play, and acute metaphors, after many collaborations between them since 1985. Thus, Da Bruthas G.R.Y.M. was born shortly after Too Poetic’s deal with DNA/Tommy Boy had soured. The energy and high chemistry between these true by-blood brothers at the time was, simply put, natural. In the first Bruthas G.R.Y.M. era (c. 1989–1992), the brothers Poetic (Brother One) and Brainstorm (Brother Two) garnered much respect on the underground hip hop scene of New York Their first official demo featured the underground bangers like “Bruthas G.R.Y.M.”, “Circle-Circle-Dot-Dot”, the politically charged “Popcorn” and “Livin’ In Hell (Had To Survive)”. The demo featured production mastering by Nate "NATO" Tinsley, their in-house producer Semi-Automatic (Pedro Sims, Mr. Semi, Gravediggaz), and the brothers themselves. After blazing underground radio and live shows around New York City, they were listed in The Source magazine as the best unsigned rap group of 1989. The crew was then managed by longtime friend Jack Pope (Jack Sprat, Starving Artists Entertainment), who later became the road manager of the Gravediggaz. These cassette tape “dubs” floated around the New York streets in the late 1980s and early 1990s, and their demo eventually made their way to the seasoned musical ear of fellow Amityvillain Prince Paul (Stetsasonic, De La Soul, Gravediggaz) from his association with the local Long Island artists who had met the brothers and saw their raw talent. In 1990 Prince Paul decided to fund and executive produce further demos, finding various other known and up-and-coming producers for the unnamed project, as well as being the tentative DJ for the group. Then the unfortunate happened – being disenfranchised by the politics and games of the music business and life in general, Brainstorm just quit altogether for “personal enlightenment”, before any formal deal could solidify. Poetic understood about Brainstorm’s personal path at that stage in his life, but was silently devastated because they were so close to sealing a major record deal that would have propelled them further into Hip Hop history. Their original demo, even today, is still one of Prince Paul’s favorites. It was not until 1992 that Poetic, after Brainstorm quit in 1991, that it is said that Poetic “fell on hard times”, including a short period of homelessness. Brainstorm would continue to write for leisure and therapeutic reasoning, but never to seriously pursue a music career, moving to Brooklyn New York and later down south to various states; in fact, Brainstorm was so “finished with Hip Hop” that he gave Poetic all of his original rhyme books to use at his own discretion – some lyrics ending up on Gravediggaz projects.

“Developing the brain, always measure the aim, feeling pleasant in the present things could never be the same.” - InsightWith great excitement, Redefinition Records is proud to release the latest project from one of hip hop's most multi-talented artists. Making his Redefinition Records feature album debut, Insight the Truncator aka Andre Todman returns to the spotlight with a new album after a departure from the industry in recent years. Where was he and what was he up to? Well after a decade and a half in the business, dozens of respected records, countless national and international tours, Insight took a well-deserved hiatus to try other endeavors such as app development, electronics and social media strategizing in which he found major success. I had been living in Berlin and was frequently touring at the time for a 4-year stretch. Rather than just point out the negative, hopefully it can help us to find ways to cope and move our mind to a better place." InsightEars Hear Spears is the full-length counterpart to Insight & Damu’s 45 single "Know the Meaning” Remix.

The Notorious B.I.G. is widely recognized as one of the world’s most influential rappers and has sold more than 17 million albums in the U.S. alone. Before his murder in 1997, Christopher Wallace recorded two classic albums as The Notorious B.I.G. His debut Ready to Die arrived in 1994 and helped revitalize the East Coast rap scene with massive hits like “Big Poppa” and “Juicy.” Faith Evans has enjoyed worldwide success as an award-winning singer, songwriter, actress and writer. She has recorded eight studio albums, including the back-to-back platinum smashes, Faith (1995) and Keep The Faith (1998). Faith Evans and The Notorious B.I.G. famously met at a photo shoot in 1994 and were married nine days later. What followed would become one of the most legendary love stories in hip-hop history. Evans has now, 20 years after B.I.G.’s still unsolved murder, created The King & I, a brand new album that tells the story of their life together. The CD features 25 tracks, including newly recorded vocals by Evans melded with vocals by Biggie Smalls, some well-known but also a selection of rare and unheard rhymes from the B.I.G. vault. THE KING & I also includes an impressive list of guest appearances by rap royalty including Busta Rhymes, Jadakiss, Lil’ Cease, Lil’ Kim, Sheek Louch, Styles P, and Snoop Dogg. Evans has also brought on some of the most acclaimed producers in hip-hop, many of which produced some of B.I.G.’s most famous tracks, including DJ Premier, Just Blaze, Salaam Remi, Stevie J, and Chucky Thompson.

One of the dopest releases on Herring. Very much reminiscent of a classic 1994 album - production comes from undercover Philly producer MG aka Mentally Gifted and the beats are on a Beatnuts/Extra P/Groove Merchants/Pete Rock tip - ha - sounds good right? It is!!!!This project started up about 4 years ago. Tabb licensed Chopped Herring the ""Brothers in Da Hood"" joint, a known Heavy Grail - but the label was always looking for more tracks to make a solid project. It took a series of collectors and hardcore Hip Hop Headz to take it to the next. PQuest, a collector and music afficiando from Germany hit up requesting the release of the “Big Tabb demos from 1994” - some short snippets had been upped to the tube. Even though it'd been a while, Herring got back in touch with Tabb [aka Jakk Frost] to find out if he still had the masters of his early demos - he did not. The label got back in touch with P and asked if he knew anyone who had seen the demo tape around. It turned out that a copy of the original demo tape had recently sold at auction. The buyer and seller were known to Herring as one was an old Herring customer and the other had hit Herring up about releasing another, demo tape only project, also out of Philly. One gave the other's details and after a few months the hi-quality tape transfers were in the hands or fins of Herring. The buyer was a cat from the states called Lance Baker and the seller was Mad Human - a respected dealer of rap rarities. So this was a muthafuckin team effort - BIG UP FELLAS!

Swet Shop Boys (SSB) have arrived with “Cashmere” (via Customs), the debut from Queens, New York’s Heems (Himanshu Suri) and NW London’s Riz MC (Riz Ahmed). Both are prolific artists, actors and activists in their own right, now bringing their creative experience and the riches of their working class immigrant roots together. Rounding out the trio is British producer Redinho, providing the soundtrack for songs like their first single ‘T5’, where the emcees lament the discrimination they face as they amass frequent flyer miles while traveling the world for work.“Cashmere” seems timely in a world where the US and UK look across the pond for different reasons: Trump and Brexit, trap and grime. From Heems' poignant debut Eat, Pray Thug, to Riz’s acclaimed mixtape Englistan, the Trans-Atlantic, Indo-Pak duo have proudly fused their worlds together here. Musically, the palette draws from a gumbo of Qawwali hand claps, hype harmonium, Bollywood string drama, spiralling sitars, Western synths, and an arsenal of drums - from 808’s to tablas and tars, dholaks and doumbeks.Production on the record from Redinho provides the heat for their melting pot. His debut solo album earned praise from Mark Ronson, Jessie Ware, and Hudson Mohawke who brought him out on tour in the last year. Heems started his career with Das Racist, and has kept busy since with his label Greedhead, a series of university lectures, and rapping from Macau to Malaysia. Riz MC's debut 'Post-9/11 Blues' was banned from UK radio, and his music since has maintained that sharp social commentary as well as his acting career which includes projects like Four Lions, Nightcrawler, and HBO’s The Night Of.

Incredible gold at the end of the rainbow business! The nice people at Chopped Herring were on the search for these masters for well over 18 months. There seemed to be an issue every time it was time to receive the files. The reels baked badly and nothing could be salvaged, or they were the wrong reels, they meant to bake the other ones. But eventually the Herrings received all the individually sounds which was great for making the Acapellas, which Memory Man did, as well as remastered all the finished track. Peep this crazy rare grail from 1988 re-mastered from the original reels plus an unreleased jawn from 1990, for your listening pleasure.
