Featuring six new songs independent of the forthcoming album, Hourly Haunts is Surfer Blood at its very best, with earworm melodies and addicting guitar riffs abound. On new single 'Around Your Sun,' a song the band describes as both "an up-tempo, triumphant love song" and a "sensitive banger," this refreshed sound is showcased to thrilling effect.

After a near decade of solo and collaborative projects, Up in Air is Ben Pritchard's most confident foray into songwriting yet, nestling lopsided experimentation into a bed of lowslung blues and reflective folk.

Up in Air is sewn from threads of everyday life: trails of thought, small stories and conversations with his daughter. Collecting, layering and condensing the world around him, his musings spill out in a palimpsest that renders both the material and metaphysical world. From describing a time where he inadvertently found himself on a hunting trip, recalling stories from doing role play and drawing together with his daughter, or scribing observations on the strange dedications people make in their lives, he explores the banal and the fantastical; the whimsical and the serious; the light and dark. Each line, aphorism or vignette carries with it weight that is looking to free itself, to embrace the impossibility of life distilled into simpler parameters.

Ben's music acts as a motor for his words, weaving wistful melodic mantras and creaking guitar lines in and out as each song finds its feet. Although the album finds a rich array of influences dancing in an awkward balance, the emotive register of the music drinks from the fountain of the US rock continuum, with Supreme Dicks' uneasy indie, Low's slow unfurling grace and Neil Youngs' heart-worn drawl lifting each song to new heights. Expanding on this soundworld are collaborators Sholto Dobie (self-built organs) and bassist Otto Willberg, who provide drones, dissonant jolts and detuned paths for the music to open itself, but also curl into its own. Sounds are folded into one another, birthing new shapes, layers and sonic possibilities.

Ben describes the album as "permeated by the sense that came from being around this sort of connection to the world where everything is immediate and fundamental." The album is representative of this shift inwards: on his own, socially, as a parent. But with that it also represents a confidence to deal with everything. The album is an excavation, both finding strange joy in simple findings and an unburdening himself of everything else, letting every thought and feeling whisks itself away up in the air.'

This limited edition Record Store Day, 10” plum Colored Vinyl release features four of Supergrass’ key tracks from 2004-2005. Opening with the melancholic "St. Petersburg" the slow paced thinker that features an iconic and haunting piano riff that charted #22 in 2005 and as of 2022 is their most recent UK Top 40 Hit. Next up is a live version of the classic Supergrass stomper ‘Road To Rouen’ recorded at Somerset House in 2005. The B side opens to a notably different arrangement of their classic track ‘Kiss Of Life’ recorded live at the Portsmouth Pyramid in 2005. Things take a turn as the EP signs off with ‘Coffee In The Pot’, a lively little Surf Rock inspired number that reminds the listener of Supergrass’ unique sense of humour. The artwork has been recreated from the original ‘St Petersburg’ single artwork originally released in 2005, and features the famous statue of Peter the Great, from Saint Petersburg in Russia. Nick Walters returns to his D.O.T. imprint with a limited edition 10", featuring a selection of two ragas recorded in collaboration with the Pakistani musicians Kashif Ali Dhani (tabla) and Muzamil Hussain (sarod). This 10" is the forerunner for a full album due for release on D.O.T. in early 2023, which features tracks born out of a trip to India in 2019.

During a month long trip backpacking around India, Walters started piecing together a new album, taking inspiration from the sights, sounds, food and culture. He also took a digital recorder with him, recording samples whilst on the road that he could use for the album. The two tracks on this record feature some of those samples and are an exploration of ragas - the North Indian classical music he encountered on his trip. Of course, the exploration of Hindustani Classical music is a well trodden path for many great musicians, led in the 60's and 70's by jazz heroes such as John Coltrane and Don Cherry, and more recently Walters' long time collaborator and friend Tenderlonious. Both tracks on this limited edition 10" focus on traditional ragas and feature Jaubi band member and tabla master Kashif Ali Dhani, and Muzamil Hussain on sarod.

'Ranakpur' is a raga using the mode of Raag Charukeshi, a scale referred to in western music theory as the aeolian dominant. It is said to incite feelings of pathos and devotion in the listener, and inspiration for this recording was drawn from visiting the ornately carved Jain temple at Ranakpur in Rajasthan, India.

'Raga for Don' is a tribute to Don Cherry, and uses the same mode (Raag Malkauns) which he explores on his track 'Malkauns' from the classic album 'Brown Rice'. The notes of this raga correspond to the western pentatonic scale, and are said to have a soothing and intoxicating effect.

Aim 2 Pleez was a label made primarily for N-Zo & DJ Invincible to have an outlet for jungle in the early days of the genre but they definitely leaned more towards the more musical side of the sound. The label didn’t last that long but the end result is that the few releases on the label are now very sought after, fetching absurd prices on second hand websites, and this EP is in particular demand. They are two tracks of immense proportions, that not only appeal to the junglists but to breakbeat hardcore lovers alike. But there’s more to story… Now redeveloped and reworked, ‘Manipulation’ has been manipulated into this epic club missile on Riotvan. Electrified and strident in its swagger, this new version maintains the duo’s sultry, provocative vocal but carries much more dancefloor weight. Every bit as sharp and to the point as the name New Hook suggests, it’s also been blessed with an equally forthright twist from dark disco don Curses who brings a little added funk to the bassline, manipulating the already manipulated ‘Manipulation’ with his own unique flare. A limited edition SUN RA 10-inch EP cut at 45 RPM. Four tracks, two unreleased. Features artwork by Georgia Hubley (Yo La Tengo), lettering by Archer Prewitt. Mastered by Dave Cooley. A-1 "Just Friends" 7:22 (John Klenner and Sam Lewis) This live recording was only issued on a rare 1982 Saturn album entitled Just Friends. So few copies of Just Friends were pressed, that this track is almost unknown to Ra fans. This is the first reissue of this track in any format. The location and actual date of the recording are unknown. A-2 "Just Friends" 3:36 (John Klenner and Sam Lewis). This is a recording made around 1960 of Sun Ra playing organ in his Chicago apartment while softly singing the song "Just Friends." It has not been previously issued in any format. B-1 "Under the Spell of Love" 6:04 (Sun Ra © Enterplanetary Koncepts Bmi). This live recording was also issued on the rare 1982 Saturn album Just Friends. This is the first reissue of this track in any format. As with the title track on side A, the location and actual date of this performance are unknown B-2 "Cherokee" 4:12 (Ray Noble). This work was composed by Ray Noble. "Cherokee" was a 1940s big band standard, and was a big hit for Charlie Barnett. It was also recorded by Charlie Parker, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Lionel Hampton, Bud Powell, and many others. This is the only known recording of the title by Sun Ra. There is no information about the date, location, or personnel. It sounds like a home rehearsal, and probably dates from the 1970s. It has not been previously issued in any format.

Warning: Hazardously sour bangers! Mani Festo joins the SweetBox ranks with two acid hardcore jungle tekno A-bombs: ‘Toxic Waste’ and ‘Warehouse 2.0’. A true man of the moment, Mani’s finely tuned productions are in high demand right now. His catalogue boasts releases for the likes of Rupture, Hooversound, Wncl, E-Beamz and the Club Glow imprint he co-runs with Denham Audio, Borai and LMajor. His SweetBox debut starts deceptively slow, building up a head of steam via an incessant pulse and faint industrial chug. Once ‘Toxic Waste’ lets loose its slamming four-to-the-floor kick, however, it’s on a one-way train to total mayhem. Blistering breaks burst through the gloom as the track hurtles onwards like an unstoppable juggernaut, finally taking control in the form of clattering percussive carnage. Flipside ‘Warehouse 2.0’ sees a similar pairing of jackhammer kicks and a chunky breakbeat, this time sliced through by a ravenous acid line that rises and rises, until it threatens to swallow the track whole. Paired with gargantuan, psychedelic arpeggios, as the title suggests, this one’s foaming at the mouth for a warehouse to pack to the rafters. Another two unstoppable weapons for both the Mani Festo and SweetBox arsenals, ‘Toxic Waste’ / ‘Warehouse 2.0’ will be available on digital and limited edition 10” vinyl (SweetBox’s first 300 pressing) with hand-numbered, screen-printed sleeves.

Velour’s highly praised debut album on Wolf Music sees four of its standout tracks remixed from Wolf family old and new. Mainstays of the label Frits Wentink and Hulk Hodn join forces with new link ups, Footshooter and 20/10, for this crispy 10 inch. First up to bat, German beatsmith Hulk Hodn fires up the MPC and chops ‘Tom’s Garage’ into a hazy, head nodder before South London’s Footshooter takes ‘Into The Blue’ through a synth heavy whirlwind of broken beat grooves. Infinite Greyscale release Damn Lieu Lit, a new 10" recording by Andi Toma, also known as one half of electronic music pioneers Mouse on Mars. Following on from the band’s percussive masterclass, Lichter (also on Infinite Greyscale) and their ambitious 2018 album Dimensional People (Thrill Jockey), Damn Lieu Lit sees Toma going it alone in an exploration of off-kilter rhythms and extraterrestrial sounds. From an opening of bird song an inorganic structure is assembled; and with the stage constructed, the performance begins. What follows is a deep and engrossing exploration of an alien ethnography. Within a frame of hypnotic rhythms Toma traverses sounds and rituals to reveal field recordings from another planet.

Mono have long drawn equal inspiration from the light and dark of life, spawning more than two decades of musical turbulence and melodic transcendence. Heaven Vol. 1 marks the beginning of a new annual tradition from Mono: A new EP released on Christmas Day each year, leaning into the light at precisely the time when we need it the most - surrounded by loved ones and hopeful for what the turn of the calendar may bring us. Recorded by Takaakira `Taka' Goto at his home studio in Japan (with drums recorded by Amak Golden at Golden Hive Studio in Prague) - and mixed by Rafael Anton Irisarri and Jeremy deVine at Black Knoll Studio in New York - Heaven Vol. 1 finds Mono at their most hopeful and cinematic. Of each of Heaven Vol. 1's three tracks, Mono offers these words: Lucia: "This song was written when our beloved longtime partner Jeremy (the owner of our American label Temporary Residence Ltd.) welcomed his second child. The song is constructed with two parts; the first part celebrates the birth of a new life and the second part heads towards dreams and hope. We wrote this song with the feeling of Santa Claus riding a sleigh through the snowstorm, smiling, jumping into the swirl of pure white light and carrying many dreams." Smile: "We drew upon the snowy scenery of Christmas that we experienced when we were young. Your exhaled breath is white. Your heart is dancing in the endless silvery white world, and when you are about to grab the snow with your hands and turn around, your parents look back at you with a smile. The last Polytechnic Youth release for the foreseeable future (not a final closure point, more a case of let’s see…) is an absolute beauty. A 6 trk 10” mini-LP from Shibuya Station, an all-analogue synth project founded by Marc Schaffer (aka solitude fx, Endphase, Twins Natalia, as well as being the founder of the Anna Logue Records and Nadanna labels). Finding his inspiration in the late ‘70s/early ‘80s synth music and the machines of that period, Marc recorded a few tracks back in 2013 which were further developed by fellow musicians Stefan Bornhorst (The Silicon Scientist), Dave Hewson (Poeme Electronique), Orpheo Weidelt (solitude fx), Kriistal Ann (Paradox Obscur) and Erik Söderberg (Kinder Aus Asbest) over the following years. As Marc says: “Six tracks made it eventually onto international compilations “Tunes That R Attractive!”, “Sie Hat Schenkel Wie Godzilla”, “Jubilee Jamboree: 10 Years Of TuT/RuR” and “Synthesizer Music On Tape” vol.3, which are now presented on a 10” vinyl via the renowned Polytechnic Youth label, who say it’s their last release for awhile, as they concentrate on their new label, Feral Child. Instruments used were Amdek Percussion Synthesizer Pck-100, Boss Voice Transformer Vt-1, Casio Vl-1, Crumar Performer, DSI Mopho, Korg Kr-55b, Korg Ms-20, Moog Little Phatty, Moog Voyager, Novation Bass Station II, Oberheim Dpx-1, Roland Cr-78, Roland Sh-2, Yamaha Cs01, and VST synthesisers ARP Odyssey, EKSSperimental Sounds Es101, Korg Ms-20. The project name is reference to Hachikō, the dog who continued to wait for over nine years following his owner’s death at … Shibuya Station”.

Boyan is a producer, DJ and radio-host hailing from Bulgaria’s capital Sofia. With more than 1M plays across all major DSPs in just the last 12 months alone, the producer saw support by both official editors (2 times feature in Apple Music’s BEATstrumentals) and independent curators like Indie Shuffle, Sidekick, College Music, The Jazzhop Cafe, Chill Beats Music, freshgoodies and Hip Dozer.

Closure is a centerpiece in the sonic universe he has been creating since joining the Stereofox Records family. A micro-cosmos within, the genre-bending 5-track EP follows a series of events and spans beyond the borders of sound. The producer uses the release to share his story and the flow of emotions that have been building up since the start of last year.

Bird Brains is a four song collection from Holy Fuck, recorded live at various studios over the past few years. They represent the ongoing creative process of a band whose members live in different cities (in both Canada and the US) yet insist their music should be a collaborative process. These four songs aim to capture the raw energy of four people, not apart as bedroom producers, but together as a spirited exchange of ideas, a dynamic interaction that comes from years of friendship. While Bird Brains was largely self-produced, a few very talented Engineers/Producers aided greatly in that process, including Shawn Everett (John Legend, Warpaint, Alabama Shakes), who recorded the song “Chains” at The Banff Centre for the Arts, and David Wrench (Caribou, FKA Twigs, The XX) who mixed the song “New Dang”. The cover image was designed by long time friend Seth Smith, visual artist, film maker, and musician from Nova Scotia. As the band describes, “the image is quite gross and beautiful, natural and artificial all at the same time, which we feel best represents how we hear our music.”

No play fight. Simon Bar Sinister is Cut & Paste Records first 10” release. All the music on this 6 track EP was created by Skratchlord Symatic. Lyrical duties by none other than the world renowned & underground legend Roughneck Jihad. Roughneck Jihad is based out of the west coast U.S.A. and has been releasing top tier work through his independent label Disgruntled Records and collaborating with other independent labels and artists across the scene for over 3 decades. Quick with the raps and sharp on a mic, Roughneck Jihad disperses his poetry in bursts of measured chaos and lightning speed as comfortably as you might smoke a blunt. Rhythms riddled with deep meaning and hidden thought, you’ll be untangling his wise words long after they’ve worked their way through your cortex. Symatic hailing from Bristol in the UK is one half of Cut & Paste Records and continues to explore twisting & flipping waveforms with his scratching, live looping and tape delay knowledge. The music for Simon Bar Sinister was all scratched using turntables, live looping, and a cassette tape-delay to create the gritty sonic textures found throughout the EP. Many of the samples & tones being shifted under his stylus are found on C&P DJ tool releases. Simon Bar Sinister takes the fight to the phonies and delivers clarity of thought and twisted waveforms that very unsurprisingly blast the doors off creativity. Pip Blom is a phenomenal young indie rock band from Amsterdam that’s been making waves in England, a BBC radio darling touring with Franz Ferdinand and The Breeders. Pip Blom is both the name of the band and its leader, a dynamic 21-year-old singer-songwriter-guitarist. Paycheck, the group’s new EP, is a roaring, attitude-laden offering that maintains their playfulness and knack for melody that’s earned comparisons to Blur and Courtney Barnett.

In 2017, a series of hooky singles Blom uploaded to the internet hit over a million plays, bringing a sudden burst of overseas accolades. The 7-inches sold out quickly, and El Diablo (run by Guided By Voices / Yoko Ono manager) has pressed up just 500 copies of this 10-inch. The EP is something of an older sibling to Blom’s previous singles, doubling up on the infectiousness of those early hits but with a bigger crunch. Festival appearances and energetic, gripping live shows around the UK and Europe have solidified the band as a rising star in a new generation of indie guitar bands.

Original old stock. Noiseaddict (featuring Ben Lee) were once a very very young trio, and this 10" issues their first demos, originally found as a private cassette release. The sound is lo-fi guitar/bs/drums sputter that almost recalls the long lost glories of the late 70s UK DIY skeletal punk genre (y'know TVP's, Scrotum Poles, Walking Floors, Desperate Bicycles, etc.).

The third release of 2020 is from Oliver Leith, a London based composer making acoustic music, electronic music and video. His work focuses on text, image, video, theatre, pathos and the everyday.
Balloonwas originally commissioned by theLondon Sinfoniettaas an acoustic piece, and first performed at the Southbank centre'sSound Unboundfestival in 2019.
" This is an arrangement for synthesisers of many tunings. I called it Balloon because I had this image of thrashing a balloon with a baseball bat or something, rather than breaking or bursting it just sort of floats off - unhurt, even if you absolutely pelted it."
Slide" is old and one of my first purely electronic pieces and really was me doing a hack job with computers. On my aged software you could make parameters and automation dance around by using a mouse and track pad at the same time, that doesn't work anymore because my computer tries to be sensible so I'm back to shifting tiny notes all the time which is about as slow as pencilling in acoustic music. It felt like quite an analogue way to play with notes so that's a shame." (Oliver Leith)
