Release:2020 / EU – Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
Pleamar(Spanish for high tide) is the first collaborative release between Chancha Vía Circuito and El Búho for Wonderwheel Recordings, and stands as one of the most refreshing EP's within the Latin American downtempo electronic genre. On this release the vision of both artists is united as one. This unity is reflected through "Real Fun, Wow!"'s artwork, presenting an image of a centered eye, reminiscent of historic drawings from tide studies. The representation of Earth, with a central circle surrounded by two ellipsoids that rotate and align in perfect harmony, mirrors the meeting of the two producers, the moment when the seawater reaches its apex andPleamaroccurs. Like a metamorphosis that - without knowing it - we had been waiting a long time for, the EP reconstructs Pedro and Robin's encounters over the years. It transports us into the history of migrant sounds, the salvaged sound of floral jungles, high mountain forests and the ocean deep. We hear a sonic beauty filled out by deep personal stories - four humble and honest tracks that demonstrate the fusion of these artists and both them and the genre into new territory. Starting with "Oruga"'s deep ambience, dub atmospheres and space echo reverberations, the album follows this line of reverberated rhythms and relaxed percussion lines throughout, carrying us along with a pulsating, deep, natural tempo. "El Mago Georges", perhaps the Pleamar'sjewel, is bursting with life - impactful depth and perfectly tuned melodies yet tribal and delicate at the same time. "Murga del Viento'' recalls another meeting of these two minds: El Búho's much-loved remix of "Sueño en Paraguay" a beautiful track from Chancha Vía Circuito ("Amansará" 2014). Here the whistle meets the owl from the previous track and the two birds take us a step forward in this collaboration with chords superimposed on a haunting bass. The release ends with "Una Pulgada de Silencio", a track of cosmic synthesizers, trickling water samples and the voice of argentine folk singer Gus Goncalves. Through Pleamar we come to find a much needed peace and clarity hidden beneath the rolling waves, a deep-sound escape to get lost in.

For the last decade, Argentina has become the epicenter of a musical explosion that characteristically blends folk music from the surrounding Andes and electronic beats. The artist arguably responsible for its emergence on a global platform is one named Chancha Via Circuito- a Buenos Aires native named Pedro Canale whose first album Rodante (2008) opened the floodgates by pushing the borders of Cumbia listeners weren't even aware existed. He's gone on to release other highly acclaimed albums such as Rio Arriba (2010), which Resident Advisor described as 'aural magical realism', and Amansara (2014), which catapulted him onto acclaimed international stages and received praises from Pitchfork to the New York Times.

Four years later, in the midst of some very notable global turbulence, Chancha Via Circuito brings us his highly anticipated new album Bienaventuranza- a word that essentially means bliss. Replete with his signature touches of Andean instruments (think lots of flute and charango), the folkloric elements on this album blend fluidly with danceable and digestible electronic beats. He's been cooking this record slowly, with unprecedented amounts of care and in a much more collaborative manner than his past albums.

Appearing on the album are heavy hitters in the digital cumbia scene, including Mateo Kingman, Kaleema, and Lido Pimienta, all of whom contribute their highly distinguishable sounds to the natural flow of the album. Most of these collaborations came about almost effortlessly. La Victoria is a track that blends cumbia, dancehall, and a bit of mysticism- carried by Lido Pimienta's luminous voice, Colombian Dancehall wizard Manu Ranks happened to be in town and slipped into the song naturally. Kawa Kawa came from an improv jam during rehearsal one day with Kaleema (Heidi Lewandowski) and Federico Estevez (percussionist in Chancha Via Circuito). Niño Hermoso, which is lyrically a fable, sounds the way it does because Pedro saw a video of Gianluz (Gianluca Zonzini), who he knows from dance classes, singing a Pocahontas song on Youtube.

As dancefloor-friendly as it is mystical, Bienaventuranza is as Chancha as it gets- with elements from Cumbia to Dancehall to Andean Folk to Global house, crystal clear production, and collaborations that are evidently natural and genuine, the record holds true to the sound that Canale has played such a huge part in creating. Since the release of his last album, the digital folk scene has also grown exponentially. From a new generation of producers to more listeners in unassuming parts of the globe, Pedro has been humbled to see the sound develop- and proves with this album that he's grown swiftly alongside it.

"With his first album dating back to 2001, Poirier is a prolific, creative and eclectic Canadian producer / musician with a 20 year journey of creating music. Constant in his albums and DJ performances is a desire to build bridges between different languages, communities, and cultures. His open, uninhibited musical mind means that his works bend boundaries, resulting in compositions that mix several styles and eras. He now has produced a total of 11 albums and many EPs with labels such as Ninja Tune, Nice Up Records and, more recently, Wonderwheel Recordings. Active in Montreal, his successful monthly dance party Qualité de Luxe is dedicated to African and Caribbean music, attracting crowds for over six years. Poirier is also the man behind Bounce le Gros and Karnival, parties with legendary status in Montreal nightlife history.

As usual with Poirier, it's hard to pin point all the genres and references on his new album. Soft Power has an irresistible warm vibe that will make anyone move and dance. It's warm, it's acoustic, it's electronic. Tracks ""Café Com Leite"" feat. Flavia Coelho and ""Me Leva"" feat. Flavia Nascimento transport the listener to Brazil while ""Sim Bombei"" and ""Sowia"", both featuring Samito, while the Sounds of West Africa influence ""Nidiaye Sam"" feat. Daby Touré. Then it's across the Atlantic to Montréal and Mexico with ""Contigo"" feat. Boogat, while ""Pull Up Dat"" feat. Red Fox is a Jamaican jam perfect for any dancehall party. ""Nou Pare"" feat. Coralie Hérard captures the heart of Haiti while ""Do Kase"" feat. Mélissa Laveaux fuses Canada and France with Haïti in the background. In his instrumental tracks, Poirier throws an afro house party at 4am with ""The Junction"", travels back in time on an island in the Mediterranean Sea circa 1987 with ""Forma"", and, finally, relaxes in the sun with ""Coconut Beach."

In 2018, the Argentinean electro-cumbia legend Chancha Via Circuito (Pedro Canale) released Bienaventuranza, an album that capped off a decade-long trajectory that reshaped the musical panorama as we know it. The album maintained the swift-yet-wild balance between analog and digital, the new and the traditional, while crossing new sonic thresholds by way of fresh collaborations and new instrumentation. Released via Wonderwheel Recordings, Bienaventuranza received critical acclaim around the globe - from NPR to the Guardian.
On May 17, the world gets a follow-up to Bienaventuranza - a 4-track EP of remixes by some extremely special contributors who shock these tracks into a new existence with their interpretations. First up is a remix of "Alegría" by none other than Nicola Cruz, the acclaimed Ecuadorian artist and producer who the New York Times called one of this year's Artists To Watch. A longtime collaborator of Chancha's, his spin on the track adds a hypnotic energy to it, as if peeling back an entire layer of the song. Next up is one of the album's more melodic tracks - "Ilaló" featuring Mateo Kingman, remixed by Spanish artist Baiuca, who's quickly gained popularity in Spain for his unique fusions of electronic with traditional Galician music. He puts an up-tempo house-tinged spin on the track, injecting it with a heavy, danceable pulse that compliments its already-winding melody. What follows is "Los Pastores" - the album's marching opening track. Remixed by Rafael Aragon, the French DJ/producer known to fear no sound, the track takes on an entirely new feeling. With jungle-like hues and intense percussive overlays and drones, Aragon readies the track for the dreamiest dancefloor you've ever known. Capping off the EP is a remix of "Barú" by El Búho (aka Robin Perkins), the artist and producer from Northern England known for his subtle integration of nature sounds into serene and captivating electronic compositions. He's allured global audiences for years with songs that inadvertently tempt listeners into a dreamlike state; his last LP, Balance (also out on Wonderwheel), was one of NPR's top albums of its year. He's taken one of the darker, more minimalistic songs on the album and infused it with a rich array of bird songs, winds, and sitars as if to make it the daytime reflection of itself.
With the contributions of 4 renowned producers from around the world, the Bienaventuranza Remix EP is a profound and fresh perspective on Chancha's original album. It'll help you hear the songs differently, all while inadvertently promising you'll listen to them a little more closely.
Bienaventuranza Remix EP is out on May 17 via Wonderwheel Recordings.

An exploration of traditional Chadian music with an electronic twist...
Chad is in many ways a blind spot on the map of today's global musical conversation. Overlooked, misunderstood and misrepresented, outside observers rarely concede the country an autonomous voice over its past, present and future. N'Djamena, the dusty capital of Chad with its well-kept stories of boundary-breaking musical collaborations and thirst for experimentation is a city that reflects the country's diversity: the arid North, bordering the Sahara, where nomadic tribes revere the endless desert with their handcrafted instruments. The lush tropical South, where the frenetic drumming of local initiation ceremonies blends with sounds of neighboring Congo and Cameroon. Right in the middle: N'Djamena, a forgotten melting pot of cultures and peoples bursting with unrecorded stories of life at the margins of the world's attention.
Tackling this view is precisely one of the aims of Pulo NDJ. In May 2018, Nickodemus accepted an invitation from Hape Collective to travel to N'Djamena to teach a group of young adults DJ'ing and electronic music production, which resulted in the encounter between and a group of talented artists from Cameroon, Chad, Congo and Togo. After a weeklong series of listening to original songs & demos, the recordings continued in a pop-up studio created by DJ Buosis & Nickodemus which culimated in Desert To Douala, an album featuring 11 songs, all originally written and recorded in N'Djamena.
The project found its inspiration in the city's un-narrated diversity and seeks to explore the possibilities offered by technology to demonstrate how the country's rich heritage connects with existing musical conversations. It strives to create bridges in a world of walls. It has been a yearlong creative process that built friendships and fostered understanding among people united by a passion for music and creation.

New 7" from the mysterious Gitkin, who crisscrossed the US in the late 70s selling knockoff Gibson guitars to the diverse & disparate groups of immigrants from all four corners of the globe who were coming to the US during the 2nd great migration. Recycling and filtering the sounds he encountered through his own psychdelic lens, he created a sound rooted in other, but deeply his own. This single is taken from his forthcoming album, "5 Star Motel" and features two tracks from the album 'Grand Street Feast' which charts a sand-dusted, melodic funk misadventure, while "Cancion Del Rey' has the sound of the Peruvian chicha – steady-moving, alluring, and lyrical – winding its way through Gitkin's fuzz-filtered licks, and the rhythm underpinning.
