Joe Buck said "Ten years is a long time for anything to hold one's attention." Things change. People lose interest. New things come along. Time flies. If something lasts 10 years, it has to be good, right? It's almost 2020 and the output of hip-hop artists has increased dramatically in comparison to the genre's Golden Era(s). The abundance of emerging artists and new music doesn't often translate into timeless or memorable material. Sure, there is still a lot of great talent and new music to enjoy, but technology and the music industry have morphed so much in so little time, it has undeniably changed how we all create and consume. Artists have picked up the pace, often releasing songs and new projects year round, while audiences have adapted, too, with higher expectations and even shorter attention spans. There's an endless stream of new and on-demand content, of all quality levels, all available right now. With that said, the shelf life of the average release is not what it used to be although some acts have found exception. In 2006 Insight the Truncator (Boston) and Damu the Fudgemunk (Washington DC), started recording their debut album under the moniker Y Society. Entitled, “Travel at Your Own Pace” (TAYOP) the album was first released in October 2007. In hindsight, the year would be one of the last years where albums were designed for long term digestion, and a handful of releases from the era survived as undisputed classics to the masses. Today, conceptual albums are almost archaic in a genre built upon storytelling and themes. With TAYOP, Insight and Damu put the message in the music. The album title served the two as a roadmap to completion of its 13 songs and in return, the finished product serves as a navigation aid to the listener maneuvering through life within themselves and absorbing the outside world. From adventures of fiscal responsibility and imaginative tales of time travel to deconstructing one's obstructions and beyond, Insight's rhymes confidently steer the listener on whatever path they have chosen for themselves. The goal of the album is to empower. From start to finish, the array of uplifting lyrics is somewhat like modern day proverbs, but not proverbial. Musically, Damu the Fudgemunk pulls from a deep body of influences, that give it it's unique identity and charm while paying homage to the foundations of their predecessors. The Legendary Marley Marl cosigned the album as a "refreshing" effort of the times. For a project of such character, the general reception does not reflect the magnitude of acclaim by its cult following. Receiving mixed reviews in a foggy time in the industry, “Travel at Your Own Pace” still managed to sell out of its original production. However, it has been long out of print for a decade. In response, original vinyl pressings have fetched several hundreds of dollars per copy in the used online markets of Discogs and eBay. The progressing careers of both Insight and Damu in addition to their label, Redefinition Records (also celebrating 10 years) prove that in a murky 2007, they all knew where they were traveling and how to arrive. Even with their growth, a “Travel at Your Own Pace” repress has remained an inevitable inquiry and reoccurring expectation to loyal supporters. The answer is here and the wait is finally over. Packaged in a deluxe 2LP 10-year anniversary edition, “Travel at your Own Pace” is back on store shelves featuring brand new cover art, 5 rare & unreleased exclusive tracks, a special insert poster complete with lyrics and limited edition vinyl. In conjunction with the 2LP, the album's lead single, "Never Off (On & On) B/W "Pyramids to the Ghetto" is available on 7". Considered a classic in 2017 for it's artistic quality and rarity, this is an album that won't go unnoticed by collectors. “Travel At Your Own Pace”.

“Developing the brain, always measure the aim, feeling pleasant in the present things could never be the same.” - InsightWith great excitement, Redefinition Records is proud to release the latest project from one of hip hop's most multi-talented artists. Making his Redefinition Records feature album debut, Insight the Truncator aka Andre Todman returns to the spotlight with a new album after a departure from the industry in recent years. Where was he and what was he up to? Well after a decade and a half in the business, dozens of respected records, countless national and international tours, Insight took a well-deserved hiatus to try other endeavors such as app development, electronics and social media strategizing in which he found major success. This shouldn't surprise longtime fans who may remember in as early as 1997, Insight created his own website, Insight.fm which even featured an interactive SP1200 and forums. (pre-social media and long before having a web presence was was on most artist’s agendas). Building a strong reputation for his live performance, his on-stage capabilities included not only rapping, but also producing, DJing and simultaneous live drawing. The triple threat from Boston (MC, DJ and producer) has dedicated his life to his creativity and name, catalog and content are a true testament to the kind person Insight is on and off of his recordings. Credited for mentoring and being instrumental in the career beginnings of many of today's staples in Boston Hip Hop and beyond, he also assisted a young D.C. native Damu the Fudgemunk, who later matured into an esteemed solo artist in his own right (and co-owner of Redefinition records). The 2 would first collaborate on one of the greatest hip hop albums of the 2000's as Y Society on 2007's full length, Travel at Your Own Pace. As a result, they formed a brotherhood that today is well into its second decade, bookmarked by this latest release. On Ears Hear Spears, “The Truncator” passionately speaks his mind through rhyme as The Fudgemunk handles all production. Insight offered the following thoughts about the album: "Ears Hear Spears is a milestone in my life that reflects an intersection of so many paths. I had been living in Berlin and was frequently touring at the time for a 4-year stretch. I was just preparing to move back to the US. It was ’07 and the first generation iPhone was released so I started getting into app development, as the music industry was very rapidly changing. As an American under the Bush presidency, I had a lot on my mind. I had only met Damu once at a show in 2004, but we kept in contact for several years prior to our first collaboration. He called me with an album concept and a potential deal with Tres Records. I was on board and felt a responsibility to honestly express myself. We turned in Ears, however, we were shut down at the time by the label (Tres Records, now defunct). They simply said that this album was not what they wanted and expected from us. Damu and I only took about 10 days to do it, but instead of revising it, we shelved it. We quickly recorded a whole new album for label approval (Travel At Your Own Pace). Travel was released and time went on. Over the years, Ears became foreign to me. It got to a point where it seemed like my past speaking to my present. The album discusses the importance of togetherness, using your mind, not being manipulated by the music industry to represent ignorance and yet maintain rawness. Opportunities were limited due to the content in which some suggested was irrelevant and unmarketable. As time progressed, inequality, racism and ignorance moved to the forefront; dominating news and the rising usage of social media. This album became more relevant as time went by. It feels as if it is a duty to release it, before I release the new projects I have planned for the near future. Rather than just point out the negative, hopefully it can help us to find ways to cope and move our mind to a better place." InsightEars Hear Spears is the full-length counterpart to Insight & Damu’s 45 single "Know the Meaning” Remix. Considering the state of the world as we know it today, Insight’s lyrics couldn't possibly be any more relevant and timely than they are right now. This is especially notable being that the album was initially recorded in ’07 (it was unreleased until now). Throughout 10 outstanding tracks Insight delivers a diverse lyrical exhibition over a then 20-21 year old Damu the Fudgemunk's beats. There's an undeniable level of directness and sincerity in his lyrics which are artfully assembled in a manner that will astonish literary buffs, yet permeate the lives of everyday listeners alike.

The lead single from the highly sought-after “Travel At Your Own Pace” features the exclusive, previously unreleased B-side, “Pyramids”. This song includes a rare vocal appearance from Damu The Fudgemunk. This the song's first official reissue and its first appearance pressed on a 45. Both songs packaged in full color double sided cover art. Known to many as the group Y Society, Insight the Truncator and Damu the Fudgemunk celebrate 10 plus years of friendship and a creative partnership that hold the two in high esteem of their fans. The MC & producer's new 7" is a compelling display of why the duo have always been at the top of their game despite their reserved output since debuting as a team in 2007.Surprising the world at the top of the year with their full length, "Ears Hear Spears" was a great way to sound the alarm for the excitement of new activity. Selective by nature, Insight and Damu's calculations have served advantageous in making moves and presenting listeners with the right music at the right time. The latest incarnation of this truth can be heard in the previously unreleased b-side track entitled "Pyramids to the Ghetto." Although it was recorded in 2008, it was archived and remained unreleased until now. Now in 2017 this particular song couldn't be any more relevant in how the artists analyze the effects racism of the past & present and its correlation to black plight throughout the Americas (both Insight & Damu drop verses on this track).Continuing narratives of such legends as Public Enemy and Jeru the Damaja in which the track title quotes, the group individually presents short essays in rhyme form that give a candid account of what they've witnessed as black U.S. citizens living in the 20th and 21st Century. Not only are the social effects on the table for examination, but the positive and negative impacts a racist society has had on black contributions to art and culture are discussed. For the songwriters, "Pyramids to the Ghetto" is therapeutic in which harsh realities are confronted in an unapologetic manner contrasting the previous socially charged material in Insight and Damu's back catalog. For the listeners, it's a history lesson and a call to motivate us all that history doesn't always have to repeat itself even when it's been the norm for centuries. Adversity and oppression historically have hold some back and made some stronger, but acknowledgement is the first step of progression. The A-Side, "Never Off (On & On)" speaks on just that. It's a roadmap to dealing with everyday adversity, maintaining faith in self and striving to reach your full potential. Insight presents sermons of encouragement to the everyday person over the Fudgemunk's uplifting beat. The producer chimes in on the chorus with a few words of his own that insists to keep on your path and never fall off. The old saying goes, "Life ain't easy", but the group knows success is not unrealistic. "Never Off (On & On)" was the debut single from the debut album, "Travel at Your Own Pace" which has remained a staple in Insight the Truncator's and Damu the Fudgemunk's legacy.
