Ted Scotto began his musical life as a trumpet player, but got his foot in the door of production soundtracks when he composed the theme for the 1968 French animated series “Les Shadoks”. Soon taking on the pseudonym Yan Tregger (chosen for its nonspecific, English-sounding connotations), Scotto wrote and recorded more than thirty library records, ranging from funk and R&B tunes to deep dives into the then-prevalent Italo-Disco sound. He also continued to record commercial music (including two albums with his disco act M.B.T. Soul and the under- water trumpet novelty hit “Bubble Bubble”), and work on film scores.
In 2018, Mark Grusane adapted the track “Riff On” from Catchy LP for BBE Records, which later decided to reissue Catchy and Duck & Drakes on vinyl. For this new 12inch release, Yan Tregger has done us the honor of reworking two unpublished tracks from the M.B.T project. You will have a bliss listening to two originals tracks, slightly transformed, and two reworks that will make you travel through Balearic and Dub atmospheres, preserving to the maximum the soul of the original grooves.
This release announces a turning point in the production. Parisian Soul converges on an exclusive and unique dimension with a live sampler concept on stage to remix their Maxi-vinyl in real time. Surrounded by pianist Alexandre Destrez (St Germain, Dimitri from Paris and Dj Yass), and percussionist Edmundo Carneiro (St. Germain, Bob Sinclar, De La Soul).

Best known to funk / groove collectors for his 70's library efforts (Freezing Point, The Pop World Of Yann Tregger, Schifters, Catchy, Ducks & Drakes) on such cult labels as L'Illustration Musicale, MTS or Montparnasse 2000 or his late funky disco output via projects like Major Symphony or M.B.T. Soul; french trumpet player / composer /arranger Yann Tregger also devoted time and efforts to delve into electronic sound abstraction when needed. Based around the possibilities of the legendary ARP 2600 synthesizer, To The Land Of No Return was an outrageous and nightmarish collection of sound vignettes that pushed the instrument's capabilities to the limit. Thrilling, uneasy, surreal, spellbinding or just plain spaced out - an album "whose theme is the departure of a psychedelic train on a trip with no return to a lost world, leading its only passenger to unreal adventures" according to composer's words. An essential slice of musical lunacy coming from the most experimental fringes of the french library world!

First time ever reissued on vinyl, remastered from the original tapes in a gimmick cover and a limited edition of only 500 copies!

Originally released on library music label
Musical Touch Sound back in 1979, ‘Ducks &
Drakes’ is an instrumental disco LP by
pioneering French electronic musician Yan
Tregger. Reissued this year by BBE alongside
his 1978 album ‘Catchy’, Ducks & Drakes has
achieved cult status among crate diggers and
DJs, thanks to its ebullient charm and rock-solid
leftfield grooves. Virtually impossible to find on
vinyl for many years now, ‘Ducks & Drakes’
found wider allure in 2008 when Alexis Le-Tan
selected album track ‘Girls Will Be Girls’ for
experimental disco compilation ‘Space Oddities’.
UK music hero Frankie Valentine brought
these two magical albums to BBE’s attention
and curated the project alongside the team.
Amazingly (especially given the era in which it
was recorded) the album was almost entirely
performed, produced and composed by Tregger
himself. Presented with its beautiful original
artwork and previously unavailable to all but a
lucky few record collectors, we’re excited to
share the disco-infused magic of ‘Ducks &
Drakes’ with the world.

Yan Tregger remains one of the more cultish
names to emerge from the experimental French
disco scene of the 1970s. But to a growing number
of obsessive crate diggers, the two LPs recorded for
the Musical Touch Sound label in 1978/9 ‘Catchy’
and ‘Ducks & Drakes’ have become like the holy
grail of rare disco. Those diggers include Mark
Grusane of the late Mr Peabody record store in
Chicago. One of the deepest collectors of rare soul,
disco and boogie, he included an edit of the sleazy
disco bomb ‘Riff On’ from 'Catchy' on ‘The Real
Sound of Mark Grusane’, his recent collection of
hen’s teeth rarities for BBE. Now, thanks to the
careful curation of UK music hero Frankie
Valentine, BBE is delighted to dig deeper into the
Yan Tregger archives and reissue these two indemand
LPs. First up is the 1978 LP ‘Catchy’, a
heady collection of cosmic disco that should see
Tregger’s name ranked alongside those of Arpadys,
Cerrone and Space as one of the pioneers of French
dance music. Characterised by its energetic rhythm
sections, space-age synths and funky guitar riffs,
‘Catchy’ couldn’t be a more perfect title for this
classic collection of late 70’s grooves.

In the '70s, Yan Tregger was far to believe he would become one of the most emblematic artists in the "sound illustration" scene. Yet today, his albums are highly coveted by "diggers" all around the world. At the time, nobody paid much attention to all those records that were classified as sound illustrations, or library music.
Yan Tregger started out in this environment in the late '60s. He was remarked after making several recordings for the credits of TV shows, and received a proposal to compose his first album. It was a small label (Marignan), the sleeve design was skimpy and the track titles were bizarre... Yet when you listened, the sound was seriously groovy. The album was called Freezing Point and a mere 300 copies were pressed.
Thanks to this first test, other "illustration" professionals were convinced by Tregger’s qualities. During this period, there was no lack of work but there was no glory on the program either. In the '70s, many different labels such as Neuilly, Montparnasse 2000, or the Italian CAM label, called on his services. Shortly afterwards, Philips released two of his records under the name Major Symphony, and then Polydor issued the two M.B.T. Soul albums, including one international success, "Chase".
Up until now, despite the interest shown in his discography, no reissue had been undertaken - an omission that has just been fixed thanks to the release of a compilation that we are pleased to present. Let's start with the main information: the tracks included on the album were selected jointly by a number of collectors and Yan Tregger himself. The selection is rich and surprising. The A side is more "seventies", with an instrumental pop style and a psychedelic vibe, while the B side is more rhythmic and melodious, corresponding more with the funky disco moods of the eighties.
