Featuring sought-after tracks and remixes by, Joey Negro, Horse Meat Disco, The Sunburst Band, Mistura, The Revenge and The Reflex. An unearthed and unreleased Leroy Burgess tape from the same sessions as ‘Heartbreaker’ finally sees the light of day with three brand new mixes from the legendary Dave Lee. Last year when searching though the Salsoul archive Dave Lee came across a Leroy Burgess tape which contained a song called ‘One + One’ that he didn't recognise the title of. On the off chance it could be something interesting Dave got the tape digitised when he heard it quickly realised this wasn’t some out take but a killer tune. He contacted Mr Burgess to ask him if he knew why this song had never been released, Leroy was overjoyed when he heard that ‘One + One’ had been unearthed after 35 years of going missing. It turned out that it was recorded in the same sessions as Leroy’s classic ‘Heartbreaker’ for an album that never came out but the tape had somehow been lost and he’d given up hope of it ever being located. ‘One + One’ is Leroy on top form in his prime with the full team of New York musicians who featured on many of his classics (Jocelyn Brown, Melissa Morgan, Stan Lucas, Sonny Davenport, James Calloway). Mr Lee has given the song three brand new mixes, a full vocal, Dub and reprise. If you’re Burgess fan this is an essential as it gets.

Part 2 sees highly desired cuts from Doug Willis, Joey Negro, The Sunburst Band, Mid Air and The Revenge. Next, the 1991 classic that really put Dave Lee on the map ‘Do What You Feel’ saw a standout remix from the man himself in 2015. The JN Revival Mix keeps much of the original music but beefs up the drums and bass to make for a super punchy sounding update. Flip it over and find yourself lost in Joey Negro & The Sunburst Band ‘Only Time Will Tell ft. Angela Johnson (JN City Connection Mix)’. Delia Renee - You're Gonna Want Me Back (Joey Negro Disco Blend):
"You’re Gonna Want Me Back” was an all but forgotten early 80s obscurity only known to hardcore vinyl collectors. Joey Negro has got hold of the original multi and has transformed what was already a very strong song into an end of the night anthem. Delia’s vocals are classic power soulful vocal disco diva, whilst JN makes the most of the parts in the fully orchestrated live backing track.
Foreal People - Shake (Dr Packer Re-Shake):
Originally released in 1999 the Joey Negro revamp of GQ’s Chic like “Shake” features David Grant from Brit Funk act Linx on lead vocals. It's back out 20 years later with a fat funky Dr Packer remix, who drops down the bpm and adds a more dubby approach to the arrangement.
Z Factor - Gotta Keep Pushin (Grant Nelson Remix):
A classic from the ZR back catalogue gets a brand new makeover from Grant Nelson, making it an instant dancefloor hit.
Four80East & CeCe Peniston - Are You Ready (Joey Negro Redemption Mix):
Brand new gospel tinged soulful house originally produced in Toronto by live jazz funk act Four 80 East featuring the powerhouse vocals of Ce Ce Peniston. It has now been remixed by Joey Negro for release on ZR. The Redemption Mix showcases the full song which harks back to the big vocal records that came out of NY and Chicago in the late 80's/early 90s.
Another indispensable ATDF 12", destined to cause waves across dancefloors worldwide.

Mistura - Do You Love Me feat. Angela Johnson (Joey Negro Disco Blend)
There’s already a big buzz on this beefy, super classy disco house tune featuring the wonderful voice of Angela Johnson. "Do You Love Me" is a radical rework of an old Rod Temperton song with a big chorus hook.
This update comes complete with newly written verses and other extra vocal parts. Add into the mix live strings, brass and the authentic disco sound you've come to expect from ZR releases.
Sylvester - I Need You (Opolopo Remix)
Hungarian remix whiz Opolopo takes the controls for Sylvester’s huge disco number ‘I Need You’ – relaying the keys with those trademark buzzing synths that have become a calling card for his killer reworks. An emphatic update to this classic with a heavy dose of Opolopo magic.
Neapolitan Soul - Welcome To The Dub
Luca Morrone was raised in Naples on a mix of disco, soul music and R&B and later the sound of "Victor Simonelli" and "MASTERS AT WORK” which led him to become a resident dj at the club METROPOLIS in his native Italy.
With his girlfriend PIA they established the "Neapolitan Soul" group, playing a mix of disco, funk soulful and afro house music.
Raquel Rodriguez - We Go Together (Joey Negro Club Mix)
Los Angeles based Raquel Rodriguez fuses the subcultures of LA style in her music which she has been releasing on her own label over the last few years. Her recent ‘The 310, Part Two’ mini CD features the uptempo boogie style cut ‘We Go Together’ with live drums, bass, guitar and strings, The song caught the ears of JN who wanted to add his own take on the original and this is the result

Whilst the JN Mind Meld Dub is complete with much cosmic synth revelry. On the AA side Dave dons his AC Soul Symphony alias to deliver the kind of string heavy, epic orchestral production that harks right back to the golden era of disc . ‘Manhattan Skyline’ clocks in at 11 minutes and progresses through many sections, breaks and solos, always building in intensity to a climatic end.

Originally released back in 2006 Destination Boogie has been one of ZR's most popular and respected compilations. In fact we recently reissued it on vinyl for the first time.
There's a lot of crappy edits out there, we believe these Dr Packer reworks are very worthwhile, well constructed new versions that make the tracks more playable for today's dancefloors whilst retaining their boogie tastic musicality.
Since the album was released the whole edit culture has exploded so we thought it would be a nice idea to get one of the best, Dr Packer, to rework four of the most danceable cuts from the album.
We at ZR HQ think he's done a great job on these........

Following the success of Joey Negro's 'Produced With Love' album, four of the album cuts get the remix treatment from an all-star cast of producers each with their own particular flavor.
Kicking it off Chicago legend Ron Trent takes the original funked out, Arthur Russell flavoured, 'Distorting Space Time' and turns it into a deep house groover complete with a strong walking bass alongside adding a soul & richness to the elements that only he knows how. Crackazat step up next to take on 'Lactican Boogie' crafting it into an uptempo piano driven, emotionally charged stomper sure to do some damage this summer.
Flip it over and Lay-Far delve into 'In Search of The Dream', adding squelchy synth stabs and a deep bass to give a more hard hitting edge to the track whilst retaining that disco flavor with Angela Johnson's emotive vocals.
Closing out the e.p. Fouk come full circle, bringing their hazy, jazz tinged style to 'Distorting Space Time' - building the remix around those warm Rhodes chords, shuffling rhythm and dynamic bassline.

At the end of the 90s, a movement began in West London that birthed a fresh direction in dance music. Though this movement never got mainstream press coverage, never had a crossover chart single, and never really transcended its community roots, there was a unique alchemy at work - a fertile moment of creativity, where a group of friends began to experiment with new cadences, rhythms and distilled influences, crafting a new direction in the attics and bedrooms of their neighbouring postcodes. Their music was a head-on collision between the sounds they had been raised on; the reggae sound system culture of Notting Hill Carnival, the sophistication and sheen of Electro-Funk, Jazz Fusion, Soulful House and Disco, the Afro-Beat sounds of Tony Allen and Fela Kuti, and the raw minimalism of early Hip Hop. Though "Broken Beat" was never a tagline that the producers anticipated, and one that they often publicly resisted, those two words would gradually come to represent the scattered rhythms, rolling basslines and soaring changes that were inherent to this exciting new sound. It's not clear who first coined the term "Broken Beat", but try to imagine how it felt to hear it for the first time; the production was grounded in MPCs and SP1200s, the hand-me-down samplers of the Hip-Hop and Jungle golden eras, and the drums that tumbled out of these machines at the hands of these creators had a jagged, stuttering feel, almost as though the groove was close to collapse.

In 1978 Patrick Adams and Leroy Burgess released one of the all time classic underground disco albums under the alias Phreek. Joey Negro takes 2 songs from the album and using the original 24 track mastertape gives them both much extended and reworked versions.
“Big Phreek” was a crazy, off kilter uptempo jam that was popular in Chicago at clubs like the Warehouse, with its chanting vocals and odd octave bassline under Adams' trademark soloing synth-work. JN strips things back a fair deal to make a very playable energetic leftfield disco cut.
“Good Thing” is more soulful disco featuring plenty of previously unheard Burgess vocals and rich strings that weren’t on the original release. This new JN version clocks in at almost 13 mins.

Z Records continues its commitment to unearthing the obscure and long forgotten tracks from the last 40 years through the ever-popular Under The Influence series. Following on from Red Greg, Paul Phillips, James Glass, Nick The Record, and Sean P it's now the turn of one of the scenes most respected live disco acts and renowned DJs, Faze Action. Robin and Simon Lee, aka Faze Action, were championing disco and all its Afro off-shoots back in the mid '90s when it certainly wasn't the latest trend to do so. "By the mid-90s we were heavily into disco. Fueled by radio shows from the likes of Norman Jay as well as conversations with customers in the record store where I worked, who were all super obsessed, we would talk disco for hours," remembers Simon Lee. It was however their Turn The Point (1996) and In The Trees (1996) releases on nuphonic records that shaped the Faze Action sound and played a large part in coining the term nu-disco. Fast forward 20+ years and the brothers are still pushing the modern disco sound with their live sets and studio productions as Faze Action. Alongside their studio work they've always been serious record collectors so their selections for this latest Under The Influence album are reflective of their extensive collecting and digging history. As Simon confirms, "searching for and buying old records helps to keep our musical thirst alive and is a constant source of inspiration for both our DJ sets and our original productions." Here they've included tracks taking in Afro, Italo, soul, funk, disco, with many of the tracks costing hundreds if you were able to find the originals. Included in the booklet are extensive track notes from Faze Action highlighting what they know about these records and, where they are super-rare and obscure, what they don't. As always with Z Records compilations, a lot of time and effort has been spent on creating these masters from the original vinyl, cleaning them up, removing all the clicks and pops resulting in the cleanest sounding copy possible. Features Carol Dionne, Space, Mikki, Starz, Leston Paul, Michele Claire, Galaxy, Midway, Songhoi Band, Stylus, Oscar Perry, and Spats.
