What a killer season that last one was and we are starting the new one with a beast. The underground Hip Hop world was left reeling from the passing of People Under The Stairs' Double K in January 2021.



Back in 2008 he was working on a sick project with our man in New Haven, CT, Dooley O. A couple tracks from the sessions had been leaked on the net but the majority haven't been heard before.



What we have hear are 5 joints from the collabo as well as 2 insts and an acapella for the DJs to play with. Production is fantastic and we have been blessed with a modern day anthem, entitled simply "Hip Hop" - a joint which laments the current state of the artform, something which most heads can relate too. Not to say that hip hop isn't alive and well, as we know it is - well, at least alive - but Dooley & Double K are heard laughing at and pointing to the joke that the culture has become, asking us "what happened" to the form. "It must be the music that's turning me off, be sounding so Tinkerbell, extra soft" - yup we hear you fellas!!!

So so classic album by The Fugees' first lady!

SMK aka South Memphis King is one of the real godfathers of Memphis rap. He released his first album in 1991 and is still active today. This is one of his early recordings, never released on vinyl before, Straight bangin' underground shit for the streets of your city. Roll a blunt and enjoy the sick madness over here.

Cut Chemist 45 re-edits of "7th Seal" and "Physical Form", taken from the re-mixed and re-mastered edition of Freestyle Fellowship's landmark 1991 LP "To whom it may concern..." comes in a hand-stamped heavy brown kraft cardboard sleeve.

Oonops's first encounter with Japanese producer Shin-Ski dates back six years when he asked him for an exclusive guest mix for his show on Brooklyn Radio. He became aware of him years ago through his group ShinSight Trio with Insight and DJ Ryow a.k.a. Smooth Current. After one more mix and two collaborations on his Resense-series plus »Oonops Drops - Vol.1« compilation via Agogo Records they started working together on a whole album of instrumentals.

For this 45 Oonops had the chance to dig through an amount of unreleased tracks and selected some of the essential essences with different influences from Jazz, Soul, Funk and much more.

This one hooks the listener early and smashes it home!

Side B is brought to you by the incredibly talented Toronto Disco duo, LeBaron James. LeBaron James are at the top of their game, pumping out high quality Disco Edits to a whole host of successful labels. Home base for them has been the incredibly successful Spacedisco label, run by Juno award winning Toronto artist, Hatiras. Their super catchy Disco edit of “Never gonna give my love again” will have you singing at the top of your lungs, feeling like you’re front and center at Studio 54! After a handful of mixtapes, EPs, countless edits and a double single in the form of a rakija, Jusqu'ici tout va bien is a stylistically almost consistent, compact, neatly arranged and thoroughly produced – sometimes frantic other times slow – dance with the devil in the pale moonlight. The key component of the process being trying out the new tracks live, then tweaking, adding, scraping, changing ...
The selection of samples though is as usual all over the board. The record is thus a complete mess of references – a bouillabaisse of hard funk, Afro fuzz, Brazilian interventions, Greek nostalgia, bluesy chants and library digs, with lots of vocals thrown in! All in all, a loyal music companion to get you through these gangster times.
