This release represents a culmination of almost two years collaborative work between a small group of musicians based between North London and the south coast, with roots deep in DIY punk going back more than fifteen years.
For ten years, Pariah, now Sans Pareil, has been Thomas Dowse and John Casey. Backed by a new, larger ensemble in 2016, Dowse’s downbeat narrative and feral croons weave in and out of Casey’s maniacal guitar lines, like a tweaked-out Withnail and I fronting Swans. Tales of small town desperation, crime, sleeze and poverty beat down hard; there’s no sleek metropolitan romanticism of London or Manchester, this is JG Ballad, this is David Cronenberg shooting a Ken Loach script… It is Chatham at 3am, a Grimsby pub-fight on a Friday night… it is bleak, grim and writhing with the parts of life you don’t want to see. The pair have spent the better part of a decade creating this 'scumbag panorama’ with their own illustrations and art works (they both met at art university), designs and animations to enhance your experience.

The film follows a young boy (Owen Vacarro) who, after his parents are killed in a car accident, is sent to live with his uncle Jonathan (Jack Black) in a mysterious, old creaky house. He soon learns that his uncle is a warlock, their neighbor (Cate Blanchett) is a witch, and that the house was previously inhabited by a sinister wizard (Kyle MacLachlan).

BMI Award Winning composer Nathan Barr returns to work with Eli Roth for the dark, yet whimsical score to The House With A Clock In Its Walls. Previous collaborations between the composer and director include Cabin Fever, Hostel, and Hostel: Part II. The thematic, haunting score features a 34 piece string ensemble, an 11 piece brass ensemble, and features a newly restored Wurlitzer pipe organ which was previously housed at the 20th Century Fox scoring stage from the 1920’s until the mid-1990’s.

Waxwork Records is thrilled to present the deluxe double LP album loaded with 180 gram colored vinyl, artwork by French fine artist Jérémy Pailler, a 12”x12” printed insert, and old style tip-on gatefold jackets with gloss coating.

Sao Paulo's Garotas Suecas keep evolving their sound on their awaited third album
"Futuro do Pretérito". These 12 new tracks form a mesmerizing take on Brazilian
60s/70s soul, pop and funk which sounds fresh and of today while dealing with a
wide range of issues from politics and sentimental troubles to tropical fruits.
DESCRIPTION On their third album, "Futuro do pretérito", Garotas Suecas begin
a new phase as a four-piece where the four musicians also share the lead vocals:
Irina Bertolucci (vocals, keyboards), Tomaz Paoliello (vocals, guitar), Fernando
Perdido (vocals, bass) and Nico Paoliello (vocals, drums). The album deals with a
wide range of issues, from thorny political matters to sentimental troubles and
even tropical fruits. "The songs were developed during 2016 in our new horizontal
line-up: four singers, four musicians, four songwriters. We started recording in
early 2017, at Freak studio. It's the first time that both the production and the
mixing has been done by the band. The records comes completely from within
ourselves, it's less referential and more organic. We chose our own formula rather
than any established formulas," states Tomaz Paoliello. "Futuro de Pretérito"
features guest musicians such as long-time collaborator percussionist Matheus
Prado (Projeto Coisa Fina), saxophonist Filipe Nader (Música de Selvagem, Trupe
Chá de Boldo), guitar players Marcelo Vogelaar (Holger) and Marcelo Lemos
(Vruumm, Projeto Coisa Fina) and keyboardist Andre Bruni (Mel Azul, Cupin). The
artwork is by illustrator and designer Walter Rego.

Already a brilliant slice of aggro and off-kilter post-punk in its primitive form, now updated with extra venom for demanding punks of exceptional taste.

Last year, we got together with The Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision’s RE:VIVE initiative for the second time, inviting four local artists to breathe new life into four archival films from the Sound and Vision and EYE Filmmuseum archives. Jordan GCZ, Suzanne Kraft, Parrish Smith and Upsammy were all assigned short animated films dating back to 1921. The films and their new scores debuted at EYE on August 2nd as part of Dekmantel Festival 2018. Unsurprisingly, each artist imparted their unique styles onto the films that they previously had no relation with. From Suzanne Kraft's sparse atmospherics that have become more apparent in his new SK U KNO project to Jordan GCZ’s free flowing hardware jams. Parrish Smith showed his contemplative side and sparse orchestrations that he demonstrated on his RE:VIVE release, Genesis Black, a sonic departure from his bombastic releases and DJ-sets while upsammy showed yet again her deft hand for melody and texture, a style that dominates all her releases to date.
These four scores can live apart from their films, fitting seamlessly into each artists' growing catalogs of work. But when combined, it’s as if the films and music were made simultaneously with the artist and filmmaker together in the same room. Dekmantel and RE:VIVE are proud to present these new works as the electronic music scene in The Netherlands continues to show its multifaceted talent that continues to expand far beyond the dance floor.

Noah Sterba is one of Omaha’s underground music heroes, literally performing most of his songs and poetry into dented Radio Shack microphones in the subterranean basements of tornado alley for the last decade. Beside releasing several solo cassettes on Unread Records, he was a founding member of short-lived critical darlings Yuppies, lo-fi local legends The Prairies (which also featured David Nance), and The Subtropics (whose posthumous double cassette is seeing vinyl reissue in 2017), and has been an important member of Simon Joyner’s Ghosts since 2011. He is also involved in a multimedia art/publishing collaboration called Slowed Soul with fellow local Omaha artist and musician Jeff Sedrel.

In a time when so much music is fueled by self-congratulatory irony, The 13-Bar Blues is refreshing for its unapologetic sincerity. The album distills folk, blues, punk rock and country influences and merges them with poetry, allowing Sterba to graciously tear up his hat in the face of those who have come before him as he claws through America’s gnarly 21st century landscape with his tongue, pen, busted guitar, and wide open eyes.

Formed in 1969 in Houston, TX, Oz Knozz’s original crew included multi-instrumentalists Jack Alford, Bill Massey and Duane Massey. Alford left the group in 1971 and was replaced by drummer Marty Naul, while the next year the trio was joined by guitarist Richard Heath. The band had also a three-man horn section, which was dropped quite fast, although horns remained a part of the band’s sound, even on their rare and epochal 1975 private press debut ’’Ruff Mix,” released on the band’s own Ozone label.

“Ruff Mix” mainly grooves in Hard Rock territory—the second track ‘Peanut Butter Yoni’ sounds a bit like Judas Priest with a proto-Metal feeling. Yet the album also has elements of Progressive Rock, Horn Rock and Pomp Rock. Like most bands of the era, the idea may have been to take a shot at a few different styles to see if something would stick… the theory being that a major label might hear the private album by chance and sign said band so they could open for Led Zeppelin or Foghat’s next US tour… or something like that. What separates Oz Knozz from other bands is a strong compositional component; they have plenty of original ideas and muster superb instrumentation. The guitar work ranges from hard and powerful to melodic and bluesy, and is supported by some great keyboard, including awe-inspiring organ and synth waves. The three-part 15-minute ‘Doodley Squat’ suite features heavy dual keyboard parts, crunchy guitars and expressive vocals; the result is a terrific hard prog track with lot of energy. Strange to say about a hard rock album, for many the standout track is the groovy and infectious horn rocker ‘Love Poem,’ which sounds like it easily could have been from 1969. High energy and impressive songwriting. Love it.

There is an entire sub-genre of poetry devoted to rivers and their persistent, meditative flow. Emily Dickinson's ''My River Runs to Thee'' compares them to the cycle of life, while Alfred Tennyson's ''The Brook'' deems them eternal and Kathleen Raine's ''The River'' muses on the dream-state they evoke. For transcendent folk-pop artist Shannon Lay, the river is all of the above: It's the metaphor driving her latest album, the exquisitely uplifting August, which doubles as an aural baptism renewing her purpose for making music. ''I always picture music as this river. Everyone's throwing things into this river, it's a place you can go to and feed off of that energy,'' she says, ''and feel nourished by the fact that so many people are feeling what you're feeling. It's this beautiful exchange.'' The album's name, August, refers to the month in 2017 when Lay quit her day job and fully gave herself over to music. This was her liberation as an artist, and the album is devoted to paying that forward to her listeners. Lay may be the most chilled-out artist you'll ever meet. Despite fronting her tranquil solo act and being a guitarist/singer in the indie-rock band Feels, she never pressures herself to overachieve. Nonetheless, she regularly does: in a glowing review, Pitchfork anointed her last album, Living Water, ''captivating.'' With her life devoted to music, Lay often spends hours a day simply playing the guitar, challenging herself to become better. ''It just feels so good, doing something that is so much bigger than myself. I think so much of music is that, realizing that it's coming from something beyond and you are just the messenger'' says Lay, who took guitar lessons at age 13, which introduced her to Neil Young and The Beatles. After high school, she moved from Redondo Beach, Calif., to Hollywood and joined an indie-rock band. ''It was an energy I needed to release,'' she says. The exact type of energy may have changed, but her drive hasn't. August was mostly written in three months, during Lay's first solo tour for Living Water. ''For the most part, all of the songs were just guitar and voice,'' she says. In keeping with the humbled, contemplative nature of August, most tracks clock-in at three minutes or less. She saved indulgence for the production. ''Some songs as they were had this room to grow,'' says Lay, who recorded the album with her longtime friend, musician Ty Segall at his home studio on the East Side. ''I believe whoever you record with tends to affect the mood of music and Ty really brought this jovial sense that I hadn't really explored yet,'' she says. Also in the mix is Mikal Cronin, who played saxophone on the album's opener, ''Death Up Close.'' ''A lot of my friends who are really tough have admitted that they shed a tear when they hear my songs, and I think that really speaks to the visceral aspect of folk music,'' Lay says. ''It's this ancient form of expressing yourself.'' Think of August as a warm hug for your psyche. ''I want to create as much music as I can,'' she says, ''and leave this spot by the river where people can go sit and enjoy.''

Curating the tracks for a Mr Bongo Record Club compilation is always such a pleasure. At a time when the expression "Music is My Sanctuary" has an even greater cathartic impact for many people, we set out to make this volume an extra special one - like an old favourite mixtape or playlist. For Volume 4 in this series we continue in the same mould as with previous editions, selecting current favorites and rare lost gems from the Brazilian, African, soul, funk, and disco genres. We present tracks from artists such as Azwon, Cindy & The Playmates, and Zé Roberto to name just a few. However, one main departure and progression to this edition is the first time inclusion of recordings by contemporary artists. These come from Matthew Tavares (of Badbadnotgood fame), Wax Machine, and DJ Format & The Simonsound, which were originally featured on either limited private press vinyl releases or were previously only available digitally. We felt their inclusion was important and wanted to share these wonderful discoveries with a wider audience. They also complement, enrich, and fit perfectly with the flow and journey of the compilation. 6th Borough Project have just dropped their second LP Borough To Borough to a great reaction with the vinyl holding pole position on the Juno LP chart (knocking Moodymann off the top spot) and garnering much praise from DJ’s and press alike. You know we like a good remix at Delusions Of grandeur and here we present not one but three very different takes on three of the LP tracks. Opening up the A side we have rising star Cuthead serving up his trademark scratchy, swinging MPC beats with clattering percussion and stabbing chords on his excellent remix of Back 2 Black. Perfect, leftfield house music with depth and flair and a perfect example of why the Uncanny Valley regular is picking up so much praise right now. Next up Fantastic Man gets to grips with Read My Mind, bringing a lovely bit of proto-house flavour to the release on this James Mason ‘Nightgruv’ inspired remix. Chiming DX7 synths and lush pads are the order of the day here, creating a lovely warm up vibe before going heads down and dubby for the final 3 minutes. Flipping over we’re treated to some lush, slo-mo-lo-slung vibes on the Ben La Desh remix of Walk Away, the Dutch producer teasing things out with a chugging 7 minute workout which will sound dreamy and creamy on a big system.

6th Borough Project are all set to release the follow up to their 2011 debut LP One Night In The Borough at the start of March. A hectic couple of years have been lived out by Graeme Clark and Craig Smith during the making of their Borough 2 Borough LP with Graeme continuing to play week in and week out as Revenge and setting up his new imprint Roar Groove whilst Craig has established the brilliant Fifty Fathoms Deep label. Studio time has been tight to say the least but that hasn’t stopped the duo from pulling out all the stops and ensuring that this LP surpasses the already sky-high benchmark set by it’s predecessor. As a taster for the LP we present you with this sampler single containing three gems that’ll whet your appetite and leave you gagging for more! Kicking off we have In Your Arms which sees the duo deliver some classic 6BP business with a party-starting house track laced with Philly strings and a heavy dose of soul. Next up things take a slightly darker direction on U Know U with this heads-down track incorporating a crisp, stripped-back beat joined by filtering pads and a distant vocal for company. Flip over for Read My Mind which brings some deep and brooding warehouse vibes to the table. Toby Tobias coming through with the fresh raw s**t for Delusions! Two original tracks here absolutely loaded full of old school analogue machine funk and crazy dub tricknology. It?s Burning builds around a beautiful chiming synth while a filtering acid bass line and 808 snares add a distinct bit of B-Boy to the mix. I Give You love heads for a more rugged house vibe complimenting the intense, loosely timed vocal hits perfectly. On the flip we have London Housing Trust bringing serious heat on their remix, jacking up the tempo but adding some decidedly tripped-out synth tweaks resulting in a show stopping reworking primed for freaking people out on the dancefloor. Finally we have that man Lauer working his magic on It?s Burning, building up the track around some beautifully euphoric synth stabs and bassline. The perfect close to an EP in which it?s very difficult to try and find words to justify. We think Toby Tobias has turned in some of his best ever work here and absolutely love this whole record so really hope you share the same admiration for the release as we do!

Very sorry for the spilt drinks, thrown fags, popped pills, ripped shirts and funny faces trying to sing along these german vocoder phrases. Borusiade doing some serious bodywork, shifting gears down in her lowrider manner, modding this burner into a dreamish but deep wee-hour masterride.

It is the only album where Jónsi sings entirely in the wordless lyrics of Hopelandic. A desire to elide meaning and allow the listener to bring their own interpretation to the music, extends to the eight songs, all of which are nameless. The music is broadly divided into two halves, divided by a critical 36 seconds of silence. The first half of the album being lighter and more optimistic, and the second half bleaker and more melancholic, culminating in the thundering climax of Untitled #8, the closing song of every Sigur Rós show since the song was written in 2000.

Six years have passed since the last album by Andi Otto alias Springintgut, (“Park and Ride”, City Centre Offices, 2007). In this period, Otto has done nothing less than inventing a new instru- ment: His “Fello” is a cello with movement sensors attached to the bow and a corresponding software. The development has been kicked off at STEIM in Amsterdam already in 2007. Since then, Otto has achieved vital refinements of the system, cooperated with artists of various fields as diverse as choreographers in Macedonia, theatre in Nigeria and Techno DJs in the Berghain Kantine in Berlin or the Fusion Festival. He even played solo with his instrument on different continents. For this third album, “Where We Need No Map” Otto takes the “Fello” to his studio in Hamburg for the first time. He records his instrument which has until today only been presented live on stage. In these Fello Sessions, the bow gestures immediate- ly modulate and process the amplified cello sound. In the subsequent editings he selects and cuts these sessions and merges them with other styles, such as Skweee, House and Jazz. Springintgut's trademark sound, this unique playfulness, is pre- sent throughout, while the live-processed cello adds an unrivaled deepness. The artist's expeditions even add more colour. Two tracks have been recorded in India. The lead voi- ce in “Bangalore Kids” is a field recording of a schoolboy in Cubbon Park, Bangalore. Andi Otto spends three months in Japan as artist- in-residence in the Villa Kamogawa in Kyoto. In Sri Lan- ka, finally, he meets Sasha Perera, the voice of Berlin's Dub Techno band Jahcoozi. They record two songs together. Especially in “Bullet” one can sense the lazy, muggy, peaceful heat of the after- noons in which this beautiful track has been com- posed. These stories may help to locate the music's orig- ins but still the sound of “Where We Need No Map” points us to unknown territories. The journey itself is the reward, let's listen!

Some last copies, found in the bands rehearsal room. When Von Spar made their ciritcally acclaimed entrance in the pop circuit in 2003 (e.g. coverstory in Spex Magazine) they were regarded as the German answer to the Post-Punk/No-Wave-renaissance. But their debut was more a clever parody about eighties-style-hipster-bands. Three years later and wiser the supergroup (with members of Urlaub in Polen, Oliver Twist, Aggro Cologne) returns with an uncompromising album that gets ahead of all expectations and will surprise their audience and critics who will be shocked. This is not a band following the latest trend. Detached from the usual style issues Von Spar have exorsized the Zeitgeist and overtaken the discourse. There is no scheme. Anything goes. Their new musical language is inspired by seventies Krautrock taking lines of flight to Fluxus art, Minimal Music and early TripHop. Apart from ringtone-compatible hits Von Spar reanimate the classical album-format. The two 20-minute long songs combine the spirit of exploration from Can and Kraftwerk with the conceptual aesthetics of Steve Reich and John Cage and techniques of dark, psychedelic multi-layering by Neurosis and Bohren & Der Club of Gore. All references are permantly ruptured, adopted and newly interweaved. With two new members the five-headed pack recorded in the legendary Electric Avenue Studio, Hamburg, with producer Tobias Levin (Tocotronic, Blumfeld, Kante). Their new labelbase Tomlab offers the congenial platform for this unusual journey. The new album of Von Spar reclaims music as a truthful place for concentration and collective energy from which newness enters the world.

After his debut LP Sun Chapter One on KCZ, Ben Kaczor presents eleven brand new tracks. The digital release on November 18th will be followed by a vinyl edition, coming out in late winter.

“For the album, an important conceptual thought came from encountering a rare ear-shaped seashell called Petro Uvo (Peter’s Ear). I found it while diving in Dubrovnik, Croatia in the summer. Inspired by the sound of a foreign language, I decided to keep all the tracks in Croatian, some of them in the dialect of the town of Dubrovnik, because the atmospheric soundscapes of the tracks reflect memories and feelings of traveling through Croatia, the force of the sea and wind, the play of lights and moods.”

The film follows Ben Jaffe of New Orleans’ famed Preservation Hall Jazz Band as he seeks to fulfill his late father's dream of retracing their musical roots to the shores of Cuba in search of the indigenous music that gave birth to New Orleans jazz. Influential Chicago House DJ/producer Parris Mitchell teams up with Siberian producer-singer-songwriter and DJ Nina Kraviz on ‘Feel My Butterfly’ - their debut release on Riva Starr’s acclaimed Snatch! RAW imprint as part of a collaboration with Dance Mania, out 28th June 2019.
