With his seventh studio album, Shapes of the Fall, Piers Faccini, pursues his passion for the kind of cross-cultural dialogues that have long been heard on Mediterranean shores throughout the centuries, bridging southern Europe with the Near East and Africa. Although the songs are written and sung in English, the musical influences in Shapes of the Fall draw heavily on Faccini's own Mediterranean ancestry, creating a musical voyage whose geography varies from song to song, crossing multiple frontiers with his voice over the course of the journey, from the snow tipped anglo-american Folk registers of songs like Paradise Fell or Together Forever Everywhere to the eerie desert blown notes of Middle Eastern or north African modes in tracks like Firefly or Dunya.Ruin or repair and hope or despair are the album's parallel narratives and if shapes of the fall are the myriad endangered forms that make up the mosaic of our environmental collapse, the descent, Faccini sings, is of our doing or undoing. ''Bring me my home back'' the chorus of the album's emblamatic opening song They Will Gather No Seed is not then, the singer's personal cry for a home but the animal lament of innumerable species on the brink of extinction.Faccini who has previously collaborated with cellist Vincent Segal for their 2014 duo album Songs of Time Lost has collaborated over the years with musicians far and wide in search of musical dialogue such as Ballake Sissoko, Ibrahim Maalouf or Jasser Haj Youssef. Two exceptional voices feature on the album; Californian singer-songwriter Ben Harper, a collaborator from his 2005 album, Tearing Sky and Moroccan singer and master of the trance traditions known as Gnawa, Abdelkebir Merchane. The album was co-produced by Piers Faccini and Fred Soulard.

Die malische, 1968 geborene Wassoulou-Musikerin Oumou Sangaré ist so etwas wie die Diva der Weltmusik.
Seit 1990 hat die UN-Botschafterin mit Künstlerinnen wie Alicia Keys, Tracy Chapman, Bela Fleck und Dee
Dee Bridgewater kollaboriert, ist mehrfach weltweit getourt und hat sechs überaus erfolgreiche Alben bei
World Circuit veröffentlicht, die einen nicht unwesentlichen Beitrag zum Boom malischer Musik leisteten.
"Mogoya" kommt nun allerdings via Nø Førmat! in den Handel. Nicht die einzige Veränderung, auch das
Klangbild wurde modifiziert. Zwar fußen die neuen Songs nach wie vor tief in den Traditionen Malis, doch der
Sound wirkt viel frischer und kraftvoller, als man das von früheren Aufnahmen kennt. "This time round I
wanted to go for more of a modern sound, to satisfy young people in Mali but being careful, all the while, to
respect my culture and tradition", wie Sangaré unterstreicht. Neben herkömmlichen afrikanischen
Klangerzeugern wie dem Saiteninstrument Kamele N’goni oder der Röhrenglocke Karignan kamen zu diesem
Zweck elektrische Gitarren, Bass, Keyboards, Synthesizer und Tony Allen an den Drums zum Einsatz. Für
die Produktion von "Mogoya" zeichnen der Schwede Andreas Unge und das französische Kollektiv A.l.b.e.r.t.
(Ludovic Bruni, Vincent Taurelle, Vincent Taeger), das bereits für Air, Tony Allen, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Beck
und Franz Ferdinand tätig war, verantwortlich.

"Djourou is the cord that connects me to other people," says Ballaké Sissoko with characteristic simplicity. It is a magnificent distillation of that same art: the art of being yourself and being with others. It combines pieces in which Ballaké converses, all alone, with his kora, and others in which he takes palpable pleasure in dialoguing with musicians whose contributions come across like declarations of love. Ballaké links with the singer Camille, the band Feu!Chatterton, famous French MC Oxmo Puccino, the clarinetist Patrick Messina, the singer Piers Faccini, Salif Keïta's sacred voice, the gifted kora-player Sona Jobarteh, alongside cellist and longtime musical partner, Vincent Segal.Ballaké is an improviser and prodigy who is still reinventing himself and who takes his art to explore other worlds. Djourou presents the Malian kora player's music in all its multi-faceted forms: intimate and universal, singular and plural, solo or in conversation.

Das neue, mittlerweile achte Album von Lucas Santtana, ist ein Porträt der politischen, sozialen und kulturellen Lage in seinem Heimatland Brasilien. Einen Namen hat sich Santtana mit Alben zwischen Tropicália, Bossa Nova, Electronica und HipHop gemacht. Für das neue Album verließ er sich hauptsächlich auf seine Stimme und Gitarre oder "voz-violao" in der Tradition des im Juli verstorbenen großen brasilianischen Musikers Joao Gilberto und sagt dazu: "aus einer persönlichen Sicht der Dinge hatte ich das Ende solcher Klangarchitekturen [wie auf den beiden Vorgängeralben] erreicht. Ich wollte weg davon und, wie man das am Ende einer glücklichen Ehe so macht, alles zurücklassen, nur mit einem Koffer losziehen und alles einfach halten. Darüber hinaus leben wir politisch gesehen in einer Zeit, in der alle sehr laut schreien und niemand mehr dem anderen zuhören will. So dachte ich, es sei an der Zeit, in die Ohren der Menschen sehr sanft hineinzuflüstern."Die Musik von O céu é velho há muito tempo mag trügerisch sanfte Züge haben, aber die Texte sind in ihrer Aussage eindeutig. Das wird schon beim ersten Stück "Portal de Ativaçao" klar, in dem Santtana in einem Spoken Word-Teil den Hörer auffordert, klar Position zu beziehen. In englischer Übersetzung klingt das folgendermaßen: "Who wants to speak? Raise a hand / Who wants to listen? Raise a hand / Who wants to demonstrate? Well then get up on your feet / Who wants to understand?".Das unbequeme Stück zu Beginn ebnet den Weg für drei darauf folgende leidenschaftlich politische Tracks. In "Brasil Patriota" zersetzt der verführerische und unwiderstehliche Bossa Nova-Schwung die brasilianische Nationalhymne, um jene selbsternannten "Patrioten" an den Pranger zu stellen, die die Menschenrechte und das Justizsystem von oben herab pervertieren. Der nächste Song "Um Professor Está Falando Com Você" (A Professor Is Talking To You) handelt von der institutionalisierten Korruption, die eine "Justice that lies, Police that kill and the church that extorts" b...
