At long last we’re happy to bring you the release of Tulu & Wimpy Fly Like A Cucumber. This full-length record was recorded in 2014 at Electric Cave Studio in Portsmouth, NH by Scott Gildersleeve (aka Tulu) Jack Hayes (aka Wimpy), and Marc McElroy. Gildersleeve and Hayes, along with Joe King, were the original members of the infamous punk rock band The Queers who formed in the early 1980’s. Gildersleeve and Hayes also played together in the Boston-based band The Monsignors in the late 1980’s. Tulu and Wimpy Fly Like a Cucumber contains new songs written by Scott Gildersleeve, and recorded in 2014 by Gildersleeve, Hayes and McElroy, as well as some unreleased and remixed songs by the Monsignors. Tragically, in early 2015, within a few weeks of the completion of these recordings, Scott Gildersleeve aka Tulu... left us... hopefully to a better place than this world. “But finally, I am able to release this truly outstanding record, that I had the pleasure of being able to create with my best friend. Dark cloud approaching – Black Magic Six set to release their fifth album in September!

The title of Black Magic Six’s upcoming album Black Cloud Descending really sums up the mood and thoughts of its creators during the album making process. It tells stories of constant escaping, accepting defeat, destinies of outcasts, failures, and drunks. Tales of the wiser, exaggerated lies, vague rumours, fuzzy states of mind and suspicious circumstances – even the thought in the back of your head about the possibility of redemption while standing on the edge of the cliff right before falling in; it’s all there.

The album’s first single Blood of Babylon is a garage rocking song about Sam Berkowitz’s relationship with Sam Carr’s speaking dog. Lyrical themes of the upcoming album are moving between reality and the imaginary world; remembering the moments at Belo Horizonte, how to use the powder that protects you from the evil eye, how it felt to wonder in the same alleyways with the werewolf of Istanbul or diving to safety to the bottom of a pond in Northern Savo.

Musically the album is on a narrow path. All the sounds heard on Black Cloud Descending are produced by Taskinen and Motherfuckin’ Japa. Sure, there are two exceptions; the gong heard in the end of Werewolf of Istanbul was recorded by Sakke Koivula at his home and the church bells in the outro of Full House Blues are ringed by unknown. Previous albums of BM6 had lots of featured vocalists and other guests playing guitar, percussions, and harmonica. People that one could call actual musicians. These past albums have had a softer, more versatile, and maybe even a livelier touch to them. This time around there’s only the core; the percussionist and the singing guitar player. The result is more raw, rugged, and rougher than before.

Black Cloud Descending is out on September 1st on vinyl, CD and digital platforms. The album was produced, recorded, and mixed by Mitro Kylliäinen at Kung Fu Audio along with BM6 during 2022-2023. Original art used for the album cover was made by Greger Grönholm. The band will play selected live shows to celebrate the new album in Finland, Germany, Denmark, and Spain. Dates of these gigs will be announced closer to the release date of the album.

When you hear of someone in the punk scene putting out solo material, you expect them to pull out the acoustic guitar and channel their softer side. With Tino Valpa it couldn’t be more the opposite. New Hampshire’s one-man powerhouse is here with his first full-length solo album Live Or Be Lived All Over. Tino tackles all duties: guitar, bass, drums and vocals. From the get-go this record is heavier, harder & better structured than its predecessors. Tino’s previous releases in 2010 & 11 were two 7” EPs of blazing old-school hardcore punk with few songs clocking in over the 30 second mark. Since then, Valpa has traveled the world touring in many bands with focuses on other things. In 2022 the solo project will finally to come to light as a live playing, touring band. This self-released album is available on LP, Digipak CD and Cassette).

Transported from Paris to New York, he reveals - after being subjected to the "lie detector" test - the names of some Soviet spies nested in NATO's high command and in the French secret service. As soon as the head of the CIA ("Allen Davies") reveals the names of the double agents to his European colleagues, a wave of alleged suicides ensue. Only two English spies (who Davies added to the list on his own initiative) and the Frenchman Berthon are saved, by taking refuge in Russia. The escape of the two Britons (whose names were known only to Philip Boyle, an intelligence officer) allows Davies to discover the truth. Ennio Morricone collaborated with director Henri Verneuil six times, including the films “I cannoni di San Sebastian," “Il Clan dei Siciliani," “Gli scassinatori," “Il serpente," “Il poliziotto della brigata criminale” and “I…come Icaro." For "Il serpente," Ennio Morricone perfectly managed to describe the tense atmosphere of this high-voltage espionage thriller, alternating dramatic and mysterious passages ("Assassinio sul lago," "Il serpente"), experimental ("Astrazione con ritmo," "Esplicitamente sospeso") with other soft and sensual ones ("Canzone lontana"), assisted by the thrilling intervention of Edda Dell'Orso and I Cantori Moderni by Alessandroni. Morricone also created another sweet and melancholy theme with modern rhythms called “Tema per una donna sola" as well as music with a danceable flavor such as "Nadine," with organ, rhythm section and rock guitar, always with the wonderful voices of Cantori Moderni, and two themes for the radio, alternating between a soft, slow and a danceable shake and an excited march ("Parata militare"). At the time, General Music released a 33 rpm (General Music - Zslge 55495) containing ten selections in stereo. The album was later reissued on vinyl in France and Japan. Beat Records reissues on CD this valuable musical work by Ennio Morricone for the thriller and espionage genres using the stereo masters of the original recording sessions for a total duration of about 72:15, marking a triumphant return to the market as a tribute to the immense Maestro Ennio Morricone!

PALOMA PARFREY's ethos is immersed in LA history, both of the book smarts sort and the personally experienced. To some she is known as a chef. Others a punk diva. The majority of strangers in LA probably know her as the person always checking out 15 books simultaneously at the library. After L.A. pulls together all these things in the form of both a book and an album equal parts intertwined and standing on their own; much like the strange way the diversities of LA life and history work together. Paloma Parfrey has been writing and performing poetry around LA since she was 13. Her band, THE SHARP EASE, was an integral part of the LA DIY punk scene throughout the '00s. Her bandmate for the CD portion of this release is BRIAN MILLER, who performed in the drum and voice quartet FOOT VILLAGE, is a member of the TRUE NEUTRAL CREW, and records music for film and TV. Radial« is the result of a vivid creative merge between Esplendor Geométrico and AtomTM. A transparent diamond formed by a heavy implosion. Its underlying massive mechanics are covered by a crystal surface made to cut reality in half. Just one letter short of “radical”, this album is no less than exactly that - an orgy of powerful, blunt repetition and hyperbolic simplicity, a profound evocation of nothingness and its surroundings. The 13 tracks (which comprise the digital full-length version) of »Radial« are the exact expansion of sonic ideas those three artists have explored during the last couple of decades. Unexpectedly so, this makes this production an outstandingly atemporal one - some would even classify it as meta-contemporary. A selection of 10 tracks of the digital full-length album will be released on CD through raster on September 01, whereas an accompanying vinyl release is scheduled for the end of 2023.

Texas Alexander was from a small town in Texas called Jewett, in between Dallas and Houston. It was here that he first started to sing on the streets and in church. He started to build a reputation through doing gigs. He is known for his personal and unique tenor voice and hollering style which is very reminiscent of field singing.

With nine solo soundscape albums to his credit, Motzer is widely known for his distinct textural electro-acoustic guitar voice utilizing looping, bowing, electronics, and prepared techniques. He appears on stunning collaborations with credits on over 100 albums, not the least of which is the historically important album King Britt Presents Sister Gertrude Morgan, where Tim’s cinematic textures led to features in Miami Vice, True Blood, and several independent films. He was inspired, quite handily, to perform and record all parts of these evolving compositions, including vocals – a first in his career. Mellotron, guitars, bass, prophet synth, optigan, wood flute, cymbals, drums, reed organ, electronics, drum machine, and toy keyboards all flow together in a lush and mysterious way, psychedelic at times, transcendent and futuristic at others.

Four-piece Philadelphia band Big Nothing, released their self-titled album through Asian Man Records in 2017. In continuation, the east coast indie-punks have now released their sophomore album, 'Chris' on Salinas Records. Dead Broke Rekerds is absolutely stoked to announce definitive reissues by Berkeley, California-based punk band, Fifteen. From the ashes of east bay legends, Crimpshrine, came Fifteen. These records changed our lives (here at Dead Broke) and the socially conscious lyrics touched & taught us in ways music would seldom again throughout the years. Fifteen formed in 1988 during the tail end of a Crimpshrine tour. After Crimpshrine broke up, Fifteen started playing shows. Fifteen embarked on their first tour in the summer of 1989, and recorded their debut s/t EP in April 1990 for Lookout! Records. Fifteen went on their first US tour in the summer of 1990, playing shows with Filth & Fugazi. They released their first album ("Swain's First Bike Ride") in 1991 on Lookout!. In summer of 1992, the band toured the US & Canada, and recorded their second album, "The Choice of A New Generation". Originally released on Cd/lp in 1992 on Lookout! Records. The band saw a line-up change with this album, featuring Lucky Dog (rip) on bass guitar. We've meticulously kept these reissues as true to the original releases as we possibly could, while the songs have taken on a new life with a 2017 remastering. Within the one-year span of February 2019 to February 2020, Boston’s Nat Freedberg (Flies, Titanics, Upper Crust) released two solo records on the Rum Bar Record label, plus a third one, entitled “Freeloader: The Path of Least Resistance,” with Boston rock titans Jim Janota (drums), Jim Haggerty (bass) and Charles Hansen (guitar). Over the last pandemic year, while loafing around at home, Nat found himself idly accumulating another Freeloader album’s-worth of rockers. These guys redefine the meaning of the word "old," and belong to that class of ossified musical objects that can only be identified by radiocarbon dating. Nat, the oldest and probably most decrepit, has been a pallid, furtive habitué of the Boston music scene since the early '80s. His previous bands were the Flies, the Titanics, the Satanics, the Clamdiggers, and the Upper Crust. Janota is widely admired as the best rock drummer in Boston, a distinction which has done absolutely nothing for him in the way of tangible reward. Likewise, Haggerty is in great demand on the Boston circuit, holding down the bass in multiple bands while the front-people warble on earnestly about whatever they believe to be interesting and important. Hansen is a world-class guitarist, teaches at Berklee, and plays in several bands, but he too could only loosely be termed a billionaire.

Joe Jitsu were a band from roughly 1997 to 2010. Hailing from Beaumont, TX their unique style of traditional pop punk leaned more toward the Green Day camp than the Weasel but pulled influence from so much more. Within the decade JJ existed the band released four official albums on Top Five, Insubordination, and Brucemonkey Records, played tons of shows, and even toured the USA! With another lockdown hitting London in November 2020, James Sullivan knew he had to do something to stay sane. “The year was a total car crash but I knew there was a way to save it. I set myself the challenge of writing 10 songs in 10 days and recording them – with no intention of anyone ever hearing it. It was a move away from writing songs for a touring live band – More Kicks. I wanted to make something based entirely on instinct – trying out new styles and not thinking about anything for longer than a few minutes. Write it, record it, move on.” (The fact you’re reading this of course proves things took a slightly different turn, but hey...) Light Years is a whistlestop tour of blitzed-out fuzz (‘Totally Bored’), paranoid drum machine twitches (‘Getaway’), stadium-sized reflections (‘In The End’) and lo-fi 60s pop nuggets (‘It Won’t Do You Harm’). Take lead single ‘Lea Bridge’, a Velvet Underground, Modern LOVERSstyle paranoid stomp which blends saturated guitars and a swirling organ with a spoken word account of a fatigued journey across town, breaking stride only to say: “All I wanna do is laze around and lie beside you.” “That song laid the foundations for the whole project,” James says. “I’m usually so obsessed with chasing melodies but this time I wanted to free myself completely and just speak directly. I’d been keeping a journal after having some CBT during a particularly rough patch last year. That was part of the advice they gave me – to try and track what was going on in my head. The lyrics for that song are lifted almost word for word from that diary.” The record was self-recorded on a half-broken Tascam 8-track. “This record is full of horrendous recording practices. You can hear saturation, tape reels whirling, me pressing stop too early. But none of that stuff sounds out of place. This record is the antithesis of overthinking. Everything is live takes on to tape from start to finish. How could I even overdub any ‘mistakes’? It’s just me in the room and I only have two hands.” Light Years may have been born of frustration, but showcases an endlessly productive musician – a snapshot of an innately melodic writer holding a microphone up to a beating heart and a restless mind. Definitely worth being heard by more people than just the musician himself.

A true soundtrack maestro, Kenji Kawai is behind the legendary soundscapes of cult animes and movies such as Ghost in the Shell, Avalon, Ring, Ip Man, and Seven Swords among numerous others. Patlabor 2: The Movie (Original Soundtrack) is one of his most experimental offerings, an outstanding palette of emotion-filled ambient atmospherics and percussion mastery breathing beautifully through Kawai’s minimalism meets modern classical approach. Norwegian bassist, composer and producer Jo Berger Myhre has long thrived on collaboration, bringing his distinctive voice to a wide variety of adventurous projects. He is best known as one-third of the exploratory electro-acoustic trio Splashgirl and a member for the last seven years of the Nils Petter Molvær Quartet, with whom he's recorded and co-produced two albums: 2016's Buoyancy and this summer's Stitches. He's also a frequent duo partner of multi-instrumentalist Olafur Björn Olafsson and has performed and/or recorded with the likes of Mariam the Believer, Jenny Hval & Susanna, Geir Sundstol and Finland, the improvising alt-rock quartet of Pål Hausken, Morten Qvenild, Ivar Grydeland and Myhre.Now, Myhre makes his solo debut with the release of the captivating and mysterious Unheimlich Manoeuvre, The title is an obvious play on the life-saving technique, though whether the added negation makes the threatening or simply subverted remains ambiguous. More to the point, the English translation of unheimlich is "uncanny" or "eerie" - an apt descriptor for the sounds that Myhre creates. To borrow a phrase from David Lynch's Twin Peaks, Myhre conjures aural landscapes that suggest "a place both wonderful and strange," stunning in their beauty with something alluringly unsettling lurking just Underneath.

Multi-Platinum rock band Candlebox releases Live at the Neptune, a The LP has hit songs from Candlebox’s self-titled release, as well as their sophomore release Lucy. Live at the Neptune was mixed and mastered by Candlebox’s very own Peter Klett and is available through Pavement Entertainment. Founding guitarist Klett says, “Not only was it a special night for all of us to get back together, it was also an opportunity to indulge in my new passion of music production by mixing the record. Mixing this record was a challenge, but it’s what I love to do now.” Candlebox formed back in 1990 in Seattle, WA. The band garnered plenty of praise during the grunge era and continues to be a dynamic driving force in today’s rock scene.

Tropicalia infused fifth album by Vinyl Williams After collaging hundreds of paintings together in a string of new artwork, Williams combined over 25 paintings to create the album art for Azure; attempting to equally represent the complexly organic & decadent music apparent on the record. The first single “LA Egypt” is a wild harmonious odyssey, that will impact international radio & streaming services in April & May. Azure marks a point of higher equilibrium for songwriter Lionel Williams, employing far more restraint & rapidity than his earlier releases, as well as a concentration of unifying paradoxical qualities. In 2016 they released their debut album ‘Brainsugar’ via acclaimed independent label Anjunadeep. Accumulating over 40 million streams, the album won praise from Mixmag, Resident Advisor, Consequence of Sound and DJ Mag, who described it as “a startlingly accomplished debut” in their 9/10 review.

Originally an electronic duo comprised of Dutch producers Ariaan and Peter, Cubicolor became a three-piece band with the arrival of British singer-songwriter Tim in 2015, after collaborating on breakthrough single ‘Falling’. A published poet and playwright, Tim’s musical upbringing was rooted in playing guitar and listening to Nick Drake. Combined with Ariaan’s encyclopedic knowledge of electronic music and Peter’s love of late romantic classical, created what Clash described as “a beautiful, haunting fusion of ideas.”

In 2018 the band delivered, and then shelved, their second album…

“It had twelve tracks, a different name, all the artwork was done and a date was set for it to be released.

We got home and listened to it, then called each other and decided to drop the whole thing. The next week we went back into the studio and started again.

We loved the record we made but for some reason, it didn't feel right, so we didn't keep anything, we shut ourselves on the boat in Amsterdam where we work and didn't stop until we'd written a new album.”

A year after going back to the drawing board, the trio now presents ‘Hardly A Day, Hardly A Night’. Inspired by the cycles of time, and the cyclical movements of the planets, the new 12 track record weaves together themes of loss, hope, and acceptance.

“There were a lot of moments when we weren't sure we'd ever find what it was we were looking for. On the way, we lost friends, lost loves, battled health issues, lost an album, lost each other and came back together again. It feels like a lifetime has passed but the world keeps spinning and I guess we knew we would eventually find our strength and make the album we wanted to make.”

Showcasing their remarkable production techniques and textured sound design throughout the album, Cubicolor continues their unconventional rise to the upper ranks of the electronic music world.

The band will celebrate the album release with a listening event in London in February 2020, before taking their live show to festivals around the world in the summer.

When Cicadas appear in the area they cause a huge uproar. It’s hard to escape the distinctive noise these critters make, reaching up to 120 decibels. The hypnotic, trance-inducing sound disappears with the insects. A few months after Cykada's explosive debut, the world was hit by turbulence and from Cykada there was silence - fortunately only seemingly, because the next cycle began underground, in the privacy of the studio. It was there that the cicadas matured, waiting for a metamorphosis.

The year 2019 was very successful for Cykada, with a brilliantly received debut album, concerts at numerous festivals in the UK and Europe such as Glastonbury, Wilderness, London Jazz Festival, BAM Festival, La Defense Jazz Festival or Love Supreme Festival, along with constantly composing and preparing material for the second album. As the musicians entered the studio, the coronavirus pandemic was already in full swing across the globe. It was clear then that the world would never be the same. With increasing restrictions Cykada went underground, waiting for changes to surface again. Unfortunately the expected change that was happening seemed only for the worse - Brexit and its socio-economic consequences, worldwide disinformation, accelerating climate catastrophe and Russian invasion of Ukraine. The collapse of the old world order is the perfect moment for metamorphosis and with this message Cykada steps out again into broad daylight, matured and carrying a message with their long-awaited second album “Metamorphosis”.

The meaning behind the title is multifaceted. It refers both to changes taking place in our society and changes to our world as nature defends itself from human stupidity and greed. It is also a reference to the personal and musical development of the band members in that difficult period. It all became a foundation to bravely attempt to make new beginnings.

The metamorphosis is also clear in the musical aspect of Cykada. Their debut album was already difficult to shoehorn into specific genres with their sound that balanced jazz, electronics and elements of global music styles. With the second album their eclectic style has evolved into something distinct and innovative, combining folk/jazz song form and improvisation with heavier sounds inspired by sound system culture and rock. The band grew into a septet thanks to multi-instrumentalist Rob Milne, expanding the horn section to 3 instruments and galvanising its sound. But the biggest change that happened compared to the first album is the singing of Cykada leader Jamie Benzies in singles “So Divided” and “The Crack in the Bricks”. Both songs carry an important message, showing us that the changes in the world are already happening and that only we can make it head in the right direction. This unique sonic mix along with the message unleashes a powerful energy that the musicians want to send to and infect every listener.
