Melting Pot Music
In 2002, Melting Pot Music was founded by Oliver "Olski" von Felbert, a DJ, music activist and former Groove Attack/Superrappin A&R from Cologne, Germany. The first commercial release was a 45 single by Lefties Soul Connection from Amsterdam: 500 copies have been manufactured and sold-out within three weeks. A couple of years later, MPM is the home of artists like DJ Day, A-ko, Devil McDoom, Hawkeye, Le Scratchfunk, Upskiboo and Imperial Breed. The signature Melting Pot Music sound is deeply rooted in hip-hop music (and culture) while the MPM artists come from places all over the globe such as Amsterdam, Palm Springs, Kopenhagen, Paris, Hamburg etc. MPM is taking the old to the new, and they have just begun!

Review
Gloria Trispel, 06.07.2011

There are only very few musicians who deserve to be certified with the attribute »whole-heartedly«. Miles Bonny, son of a trumpeter, was hardly to withstand his predestined fate and took it into is (conceivable tiny) hands in the shape of an instrument by the age of two. Having grown up with a genuine Love for Jazz, the wind player does not, however, as a »White Dude«, try to line up with the tradition of a Miles David. Instead of stooping to something ridiculous, Bonny freestyles effortlessly with trumpets and vocal chords between everything from Soul, Funk, Jazz, Latin and whatever else inspires him. Within his potpourri of modern Soul, there are still a few names which keep floating to the surface, like R’n†˜B’s charts-model D’Angelo. Still, with the attitude of a lumberjack and a pipe, Bonny displays too much Hillbilly-ruffness to pose for a video with an oiled chest. The lable »slush« would already do wrong to his voice, which even in lovesongs like Nothing but you sounds more like bonfire than like white leather-couch. On Lumberjack Soul, Miles Bonny light-handedly carpenters a wooden hut from a broad foundation of experimental and smooth beats coming from the connection U.S.-Cologne (ranging from DJ Day over Suff Daddy to Hulk Hodn) and tops it all instrumentally and vocally with a Soul-roof made by Bonny. Of course, in all his inventiveness, the genius with a feeling for music-history does not forget where the roots of his harvested fruits lie and also dignifies his musical role-models with five older tracks, like the Meters-cover Clap Clap and the tribute to Raphael Saadiq.
