Dark cloud approaching – Black Magic Six set to release their fifth album in September!

The title of Black Magic Six’s upcoming album Black Cloud Descending really sums up the mood and thoughts of its creators during the album making process. It tells stories of constant escaping, accepting defeat, destinies of outcasts, failures, and drunks. Tales of the wiser, exaggerated lies, vague rumours, fuzzy states of mind and suspicious circumstances – even the thought in the back of your head about the possibility of redemption while standing on the edge of the cliff right before falling in; it’s all there.

The album’s first single Blood of Babylon is a garage rocking song about Sam Berkowitz’s relationship with Sam Carr’s speaking dog. Lyrical themes of the upcoming album are moving between reality and the imaginary world; remembering the moments at Belo Horizonte, how to use the powder that protects you from the evil eye, how it felt to wonder in the same alleyways with the werewolf of Istanbul or diving to safety to the bottom of a pond in Northern Savo.

Musically the album is on a narrow path. All the sounds heard on Black Cloud Descending are produced by Taskinen and Motherfuckin’ Japa. Sure, there are two exceptions; the gong heard in the end of Werewolf of Istanbul was recorded by Sakke Koivula at his home and the church bells in the outro of Full House Blues are ringed by unknown. Previous albums of BM6 had lots of featured vocalists and other guests playing guitar, percussions, and harmonica. People that one could call actual musicians. These past albums have had a softer, more versatile, and maybe even a livelier touch to them. This time around there’s only the core; the percussionist and the singing guitar player. The result is more raw, rugged, and rougher than before.

Black Cloud Descending is out on September 1st on vinyl, CD and digital platforms. The album was produced, recorded, and mixed by Mitro Kylliäinen at Kung Fu Audio along with BM6 during 2022-2023. Original art used for the album cover was made by Greger Grönholm. The band will play selected live shows to celebrate the new album in Finland, Germany, Denmark, and Spain. Dates of these gigs will be announced closer to the release date of the album.

Berlin producer Robot Koch is back for his third full length release, “The Other Side”.

Although Robot Koch has an international reputation as being “One of Europe's finest producers of the beat generation“ (Low End Theory), he is much more than just a beatmaker… “(Post)-dubstep infused Electronic Hip Hop“ is far too constrained a label to understand what this producer is all about. Instead of following the sound of his previous albums “Death Star Droid” (“Essential listening” – Bobby Friction BBC) and “Songs For Trees and Cyborgs“ (“Music for a modern age that has rarely sounded so good” – Boomkat), Koch takes the genre defying ingredients from these previous records to another level. There still are some of those “Galactic ten ton beats and space age melodies“ (Dazed and Confused) that made the previous albums staple drops in the playlists of Mary Anne Hobbs, Starkey, Daedelus and Gaslamp Killer to name a few, but there is a new dimension to Koch's production and songwriting that didn’t show on his previous records.

The cinematic vibe of tracks like “Nitesky”, the quirky and moody feel of “Bugs” and the electricity of “Tapedeck” show how Koch more than ever manages to create intimate and timeless pieces of music that are soulful, deep, mysterious and that will appeal to fans of cutting edge Electronica and modern pop music alike. This is the most personal record of Robot Koch to date. Instead of going for big name features Koch teamed up with lesser know artists like Kansas based vocal talent John LaMonica, long time friend and theatre composer Nielson and mexican singer/songwriter Graciela Maria to find the right voices for his compositions. John LaMonica infuses his whimsical and heartfelt melodies that breathe an air of darkness and nostalgia with Koch's fresh and forward thinking instrumentals to create something that fans of Radiohead, The XX and Jamie Lidell should not sleep on.

After the release of the John Robinson collaboration album (“Robot Robinson” – Project Mooncircle) earlier this year, it seems surprising how extensive Robert’s output is, but don’t be mistaken, this album is a longer term project than just releasing the songs Koch made in the last year. "Gunz From Italy" by Realio Sparkzwell, produced by Tone Spliff, is a raw and gritty hip-hop album that oozes with underground flavor. The album's unique vibe is thanks in part, to the fact that all of its tracks are built around samples from Italian music, giving each song an intriguing old-world feel.

Realio Sparkzwell's rhymes are sharp, intelligent, and infused with a keen street sensibility that keeps listeners engaged from start to finish. He deftly weaves tales of his experiences growing up in Upstate New York, touching on topics like poverty and crime.

The title track "Gunz From Italy" is reminiscent of the classic mid 90's. The hypnotic beat just catches you right off the bat and the cuts are incredible. You would think the song would be glorifying guns but if you pay attention to the lyrics, Realio is talking about the worldwide tragedy and hypocrisy of it all. Overall its a deep song that is quite mesmerizing and has great playback value.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Dynasties," on which Realio Sparkzwell takes listeners on a journey through the city, backed by a mafioso string melody. He showcases his lyrical dexterity on this track, delivering mordant one-liners alongside intricate rhymes.

Another highlight of "Gunz From Italy" is the track "Mambo," which features the album's only guest verse by Copywrite of mHZ. The two emcees spit verses over a recognizable Italian classic, showcasing their undeniable rhyme chemistry.

Tone Spliff's production on the album is top-notch, with each beat feeling like an homage to the Italian music and culture which they both come. It's clear that he and Realio Sparkzwell share a strong music-making synergy, with each track complementing the other.

In recent years disco has made a huge comeback as a collectable genre ranging from the output of classic artists like Donna Summer to obscure gems released across the world from America to Africa. The music on Hey Disco! began to attract interest when the sleeve was featured in the expanded reprint of Jonny Trunk’s 2005 The Music Library book in 2016. In the same year the Big Deal! Weinberger Funk Library 1975-1979 collection featured two tracks - Integration and Hydrogene – from Hey Disco! Integration was an amazing electronic instrumental that had echoes of the sequenced heaven of Donna Summer’s I Feel Love and Hydrogene was an infectious beat driven piece of music. As Hey Disco! was not available digitally, interest remained unsatisfied unless you could get your hands on a rare original copy of the LP. Like, many long established and well run music libraries Josef Weinberger is still thriving today – as JW Media – so I was able to licence the album for reissue directly from them. This vinyl LP was re-mastered from the original tapes by Tim Debney at Fluid Mastering who, as always, has done an amazing job. Bastow’s original compositions on Hey Disco! had a wonderful flow on both sides of the LP. Tracks like Final Destination, Sunset West, Count Off, Sidewalk and Disco Hoedown are as funky as hell and it is a pleasure to allow fans of library music and disco music to be get their hands on this lost gem penned by Trevor Bastow who sadly went to the big disco in the sky in 2000 at the age of 55.

Please allow me to introduce myself...I'm Kim Olin and this is my labor of love. This project is the culmination of 30 years of being immersed in music, and all of the friends and relationships built over the years. I started writing songs back in the 80s while I was living in New Brunswick, NJ when it was a hotbed of talent and rock. Unfortunately, some of my poor life choices made it impossible for me to keep a band together. I am privileged to have the amazingly talented Steve Conte (NY Dolls/Michael Monroe) act as both producer and guitar slinger on this project. Johnny Pisano (Willie Nile/Ryan Adam s) adds his versatile bass skills to the mix, and hard-hitting drummer Jon Weber (Willie Nile/Rock of Ages) round out this power trio. I'm doing the singing. We recorded most of it in two days at Renegade Nation Studios in NYC with Geoff Sanoff working the board. We finished up with a few days at Steve's home studio. I am super proud of the work we did.

Since the band's inception in 1992, Built to Spill founder Doug Martsch intended his beloved band to be a collaborative project, an ever-evolving group of musicians making music and playing live together. "I wanted to switch the lineup for many reasons. Each time we finish a record I want the next one to sound totally different. Now in 2022, Built to Spill returns with When the Wind Forgets Your Name, Martsch's unbelievably great new album (and his eighth full-length)... with a fresh new label. After Martsch tracked guitars and vocals, they group collaborated from afar to mix the album. What emerged is When the Wind Forgets Your Name, a complex and cohesive blend of the artists' distinct musical ideas. Alongside Built to Spill's poetic lyrics and themes, the experimentation and attention to detail produces an album full of unique, vivid, and timeless sounds, from guitar-driven rock odes to REM and Dinosaur Jr to bluesy '60s-style anthems to dub-reggae-inspired instrumentation. Françoise and Brezel started recording again with the help of their producer Cem Oral, a half Turkish, half Finnish technical genius from the band Air Liquide, who focused the widespread ideas for the new record and gave the band a new sound – away from the home recording practice of the older records. The record came out in Europe at Bungalow/labels, in Japan at Avex and in America by Bobsled and was re-released after the split from Bobsled records on Kill Rock Stars. After the release Stereo Total – still a duo, like in the early days – began a 5 month tour, which started in the US, Canada, Mexico and went on all over Europe (France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, England, Belgium, Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, Czech Republic, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland) to Russia. They continued in 2002, and for part of the tour they played as a support act for the American band The Strokes. In Summer 2002, Stereo Total played Festivals all over Europe and were invited to play at the Gay Pride in Iceland. They made two singles and two videos for “Musique Automatique”: “Liebe zu dritt” was made by Cabine, who also designed of the album cover, and “Wir tanzen im 4 Eck”, which was made by Randy Kolbe.

When hip-hop fans mention the Living Legends Crew - the 8 member collective from California that kicked open the doors for rap music that highlighted the everyday man - they often think of two members: Murs and The Grouch. While the two built a name for themselves within the crew, and as solo artists, they never collaborated on an official project with each other, until now.

The relationship between the two could be likened to college roommates who once shared living spaces together in their formative years, who went on to become successful in their own paths but remained rooted to their beginnings. While ruminating on who to tour with for the 12th and final year of the Grouch's Christmas Tour, a light bulb went off and The Grouch reached out to his brother, Murs. After discussing joining him on tour the two also decided to give their fans something they never knew they wanted - a joint album from Murs & The Grouch. Clocking in at 10 tracks - a reference to the title, by way of the number of fingers on two hands - the project is effective in it's succinctness. With tracks that run the gamut from braggadocious to introspective, Thees Handz will touch the listener one or another. The production is handled by The Grouch, Ant of Atmosphere, Eligh, DJ Fresh, DJ Rek, and Brady Watt. The album features Reverie, Rabbitt, Brady Watt, with scratches by DJ Abilities.

After 3 years of captivating audiences with their unique blend of soul, jazz, and undertones of hip-hop, Minneapolis-based Nooky Jones are finally releasing their debut self-titled album via Young And Foolish Records. A truly cohesive collection of love stories and music that takes listeners to beautiful places alongside deeply provocative characters, the album is a much-needed artistic expression of self for vocalist/frontman Cameron Kinghorn.

In early 2014, Kinghorn was working mostly as a trumpet player and singing in cover bands around town when he caught the eye of local trumpet player Adam Meckler, who tapped him to front a new project he was starting with drummer Reid Kennedy. That new project would eventually become Nooky Jones, and it would be Kinghorn’s first real foray into this type of artistic expression.

Produced over the course of 15 months at RiverRock Studios in the band’s hometown of Minneapolis, their debut album relies on each musician’s unique style as a critical part of the overall sound. Atop airtight yet comfortably loose drum and bass grooves often reminiscent of 90s R&B and Hip-Hop, layers of harmonically complex piano, organ, and Fender Rhodes create a lushness associated with jazz that rarely integrates into pop music so tastefully. Adding flairs of excitement throughout, the horns bring their powerful chops to the forefront when appropriate without ever stepping on the vocals, which float effortlessly from deep sultry textures to a silky smooth falsetto on par with the best soul crooners in the business. A non-stop rollercoaster of emotions, the album masterfully draws the listener in with slow burns that eventually boil over, only to be brought back down and start over again.
