sot is old English for soot. This black powdery substance is everywhere in LDY OSC's debut album, blocking out the air and making all natural vibrations sound gritty and rough. The album itself is like a dub version of the Chernobyl meltdown. In some parts you get a real sense of how much air there is to breathe once humans are out of the picture, with unrestrained melodies and rhythms frolicking in the vastness of LDY OSC's post-apocalyptic soundscape. In other parts the effects of extreme radiation are made acutely apparent. Synths, guitar pedals and trapped echoes of human voices seem to be melting and morphing together in ungodly ways, casting uncanny shapes on the walls of the failed reactor. It's a thing of horrifying beauty. Alyssa Barrera Auvinen got her artist-name LDY OSC while earning a Bachelor's degree in Music and Sound Engineering in New York. She would treat oscillators as patients and living creatures through her synth DIY projects. This is made very obvious in sot: living oscillators used for industrial music which are then burned to organic matter and turned to dub. After releasing her first EP on The Bunker New York, LDY OSC couldn't have found a more accommodating nest than Kontra-Musik for her unforgettable haunting debut album. As last 12" there are 6 tracks, generously bridging knocking MPC-style Electro, up-tempo video-worlds and melodic but clubby Techno with blends of dub. A DJ Sotofett remix takes the dubs even further while the bleeped "Lehkist" is an excellently deep manifest of the melodic stance this record carries throughout. To be continued...

The label Program and Control debut EP is a split between brazilian artists MacroAssembler and Data Assault featuring a remix from RHR. Catalogued as PAC001, this release brings 6 tracks and is called “Enter the Program”. The title track (Enter the Program) starts off the release on a pure electro tune featuring dreamy pads over an acid backing, followed by the rhythmic journey of "Heroin Church" with crisp drums and synths over some weird pitched vocal sample added effect. Rounding off the A side of this release is "Automated Bliss", an atmospheric high-paced electro banger. The B side introduces a more dark feel with "System is Watching You", designed with malignant textures supporting heavily percussive tones and bleeps. "Surviving in Hell" brings hypnotic eerie melodies around snappy drum machine rhythms. The remix version is also a mind-blowing voyage from RHR which has recently impressed with his releases on Gowpe and Omnidisc, which his expertise is shown on this reshape.

Kynant EX is a series for non-dancefloor focused records on hand-stamped vinyl. The second release comes from Leeds-based, abstract turntablist, NikNak – the first Black turntablist to win an Oram Award. She created Bashi by manipulating and processing samples through her decks. First released digitally in November 2020, now the album is expanded with a live edit and remixes from Bristol 140-don Pinch and Kamau (fka Darling Farah). Bashi X2 has also been remastered by Neel.

Back to he intimacy of his studio, Antoine lets himself go to layered dreamy electronics with a warm loving feeling covered under six feet of snow. On the other side of the record, that noisy guitar sound coming straight out of the early nineties instantly catches the ear to an intense and joyful travel in time.

Lexi Disques is a maverick label based in Brussels since 2008 that explores the rich possibilities of the 7-inch record single. A welcoming home for experimental and adventurous musicians of diverse backgrounds, from fresh and vibrant faces to underground heroes, dwelling between the misty fields of psych-pop to the straight (and not so straight) roads of electronics.

It’s been a while since we last heard from Steve Summers, one of the many musical aliases of former Brooklyn and Berlin resident turned Chicago-based producer Jason Letkiewicz. When he last landed on proudly Chicagoan imprint Clear with the robust and unearthly “Artificial Light” EP, it was on the back of nine years spent building up Steve Summers as a purveyor of forthright club cuts that pushed at the limits of acceptability. That was 2017. In the three years since, Letkiewicz has prioritized projects that indulge different sides of his complex musical persona. There was the critically acclaimed, all-action Mutant Beat Dance “record album booklet” on Rush Hour – a collaboration with Melvin Oliphant III and Beau Wanzer – and then the EBM, electro and industrial-influenced grooves of Opposing Currents on Artificial Dance. 2018 also saw him release the sophomore set from his 1980s horror soundtrack-infused Death Commando project, while in 2019 Letkiewicz finally put out his first album under his given name – the picturesque new age and ambient movements of “The Reflecting Pool” on Into The Light. But that was then. Now Letkiewicz has finally donned the Steve Summers pseudonym again for a return to Clear that’s defiantly intense and otherworldly in tone, “Counter-Factuals” is powered primarily by the kind of psychedelic acid lines and thrusting machine drums that have long been a hallmark of Chicago house. This is no nostalgia-fest though, with Letkiewicz’s take on “acid” being more abstract and unorthodox than the music of his predecessors. Proof of this analysis arrives straight away, with EP opener “Counter- Factuals” ratcheting up the intensity through waves of hallucinatory acid lines, blunted electronics, druggy male vocal samples and clanking machine beats. Letkiewicz takes similar sonic approach on “People Watching”, whose full-throttle approach cuts a path through jacking acid house, surging EBM and the more dystopian aspects of 1980s industrial music. Over on side B, Letkiewicz combines all of these sounds and inspirations on a cut that pivots around the twin attractions of trance-inducing acid lines and hypnotic analogue beats. Clocking in at a fraction less than nine minutes, the track surges forward relentlessly on a tornado of off-key electronics, fizzing Tb-303 acid lines and barely audible speech snippets. It seems a fitting conclusion to one of Letkiewicz’s most impactful releases to date.

Mutex is a masterful artist that knows how to transform feelings into music. This release on the Transparent catalog represent his debut on the label with a beautiful coordination of synths and grooves, the record doesn't give a real clue of when it was done really, all we know is that it will definitely keep the testament of time in your collection. All on pink & black mixed vinyl.

Basic Rhythm returns to Sneaker Social Club with new EP "I Don't Know What I Would Do". A side opener, What I Would Do, starts with a stepping percussive melody line and sampled vocal before dropping into a 4/4 stomp and warm bassline, drawing upon Detroit Techno of old in his own inimitable style. The second track, I Just Don't Know, opens with lush keys and female vocal refrain of "I just don't..." gradually building up the percussive elements until dropping into his trademark percussion and sub bass work out.

Following sporadic appearances on compilations and unreleased tracks popping up in the arsenals of multiple heavyweight selectors, Slow1 - ‘Hole' is the full debut record of Ufaze, and Slow Process. A frantically paced, unrelenting sensory assault from start to end, featuring a very special appearance by DJ Stingray 313 on remix duty for the title track.

This record will likely be filed under “electro”. But there's much more to be found below the surface here than in the usual type of safe, bland assembly line fare cranked out nowadays within those stylistic boundaries. This one truly stands apart, bold and original, whilst paying due respect to pioneers and present day visionaries alike.

Coote and takes the dancers on a smooth ride with a touch of 80's proto-house, electronic funk sound and vocals from Maryn's original version. Closer Kirby Step takes the term 'funky acid' to another level. When you make tunes that are this cool there is no need to stick to one style... just enjoy what the universe transmits to the ether and vibe along!
