In 2021, we welcomed Endrik Schroeder to the Bordello family with his Second Breath 12”. The memorable hooks and attention to detail that characterised his first appearance run deep in his latest. The Hope sees the French producer accompanied by a true legend of electronics, Caroline Hervé aka Kittin. Hervé’s penchant for combining brighter tones with darker shades is evident from the needle. Industrial hiss pierces swirling vocals. Clean claps, warm bass and crystalline chords give way to woe-streaked lyrics, lyrics that ascend into an arc of pulsating synthwave pain. Schroeder takes the reins on the flip. A beam of light is cast over throbbing arpeggios and a slicing snare, notes drifting ever higher as “The Dogs” takes hold. Strings swim as a spread of sounds grow, a palpable energy building under Schroeder’s watchful ear and hand in this seven minute plus odyssey into his machines.

Vertigini is the alias of a prodigious talent. To date, Arthur Mukharlyamov’s infectious hooks have only been available digitally. The 5th Myor Massiv release also marks FFF's 3rd outing for the label. No split this time, but a full 4 track solo ep by the Dutch Amen manipulator extraordinaire. No time for funny business on this one. FFF takes you straight into moody sci-fi territory and heavy yet intricate choppage on “It Began In Man's Mind”, followed by “We Sleep”, on which he takes a slightly less throat-cut approach, slowly building things up to a dark hoover climax. “Would D Think It's Smooth Enough” displays a beautiful mish mash of slick sounding synth stabs, 808 Juke drums and break beats. Dedicated to Dyanko. The ep is finished off in style with “Murder Comet”, which kicks off with a loud and clear clash message to all soundboys out there, followed by a spot of smoothness, only to take a turn for the worse again after about a minute or so, before all mayhem is finally unleashed via a set of mentasm stabs halfway through the tune. No prisoners, no mercy..

A kindred spirit of the Oyster Cult, this is a union long overdue. While he’s often found working in horizontal zones, inhabiting the intersection between ambient and downtempo, these are dancefloor dynamics for pure contemplation. Gone is the amorphous abstraction of releases like ‘psy X’ and the kind output reserved for release under his birth name, instead opting for a lean, hypnotic kind of minimalism.

‘oyster57’ picks up where the ‘Inorganic Demons’ LP and aptly-titled ‘Minimal Cuts’ series left off. Saying that, the first three tracks navigate territory gloomier than the aforementioned; uneasy at times but deeply engrossing, smudged and frayed into heads-down interzones of tunnelling throb and icy melodic flourish. Girder-strength pressure primed for metaphysical experience.

Then, like a vestige of the finest turn-of-the-century progressive trance, ’bleeps’ ends proceedings on a slight departure. A showcase of restraint from the Berlin-based maestro and a fitting way to close.

There’s nothing that brings us greater pleasure at Bordello A Parigi than celebrating the inspirational. Alex Virgo’s debut with us is just that. “The Promise” combines the instrumental elegance of Virgo with the smokey vocals of Olugbenga Adelekan, a musician whose trailblazing work with Metronomy has been beyond influential. A puttering motor of cow bells, hi-hats and steady kicks are the motor of this double dipped disco delight. Bright melodies support Adelekan’s lyrics, lyrics that promise that “things will come easier” from a track guaranteed to put a smile on faces. Those vocals hand the stage over to the musical composition for the instrumental version, those bold and brilliant bars spilling happiness through speaker cones. latest offering, 'NECH024.' A pioneer of the Ukrainian techno scene, Tolkachev's
journey into techno began in the early 2000s in Dnipro, Ukraine. Renowned for his
atonal modular sound, he continues to showcase his mastery of synths in this
upcoming release with dozens of timeless tunes under his belt.

Having a longstanding connection with Nastia and the NECHTO label, Tolkachev's
collaboration with the label has been in the making for years. Nastia's unwavering
support during difficult times has fostered a genuine friendship between them,
paving the way for a much anticipated release.
The tracks, recorded approximately five years ago in his studio in Kyiv, are live
recordings made using analog modular synthesizers and FM groovebox, adding a
touch of hooliganism and romance to the mix.

Having patiently awaited the perfect moment, Tolkachev now unveils the five tracks,
characterised by his signature minimalistic, synth-led and atmospheric sound.

At its best, Bristol's scene has been marked out by the artists with an independent spirit. Not just the self-reliant DIY approach to getting the music out there, but a unique, inventive slant on emergent sounds which feed into the city's storied reputation. Flynn & Flora embody that idea, having come up in the nascent Bristol jungle scene while offering something wholly different to their peers in fabled crews like Full Cycle and More Rockers.

The duo were absolutely connected to the wider community, but they followed their own path, and the records reflect that. They're not as widely name checked as the likes of Roni Size, Krust, or Smith & Mighty, but their legacy is just as rich with personality and flair, offering that indefinable twist which sets West Country rhythms apart from the sounds in London or elsewhere. City Road wanted to recognise that fact with a modest 12" which cherry picks four crucial early cuts from Flynn & Flora's archives, before they went on to produce three LPs and a series of 12"s up to the mid 00s.

"We knew as much as anyone else at that particular time," recalls Flynn. "Samples, hip-hop breaks, bass lines. You've got your synth, your drum machine. It's all you needed. So that's what we did."

New Jersey-born Ali Berger is a drum machine specialist and low-key US electronic music standby, now based in Pittsburgh after spending the 2010s in Boston and Detroit. His catalog of original music runs deep, with over 60 releases on his Trackland label and EPs on imprints like Spectral Sound and Sequencias, all resulting from a lovingly-cultivated studio approach which respects improvisation as a spiritual practice.

Here with this sublime release on Scissors and Thread, Ali shares a multitude of sounds and atmospheres across the five tracks. As Ali himself puts it "This record collects tracks from the last three years, plus 0221 (Serious Mix) which is from 2018. There's a full cross-section of production techniques represented here, from one-take jams to multi-tracked compositions, but through it all there's a deep melancholy which (I hope) is tempered by enough groove to be uplifting. Maintaining emotional balance takes constant, caring attention; music is a part of that process for me and these tracks reflect that."
This balancing of melancholic atmospheres and groove is evident throughout - Rhythm & Simplicity is a low key thoughtful banger for the more discerning dancefloors, while A New World To Forget also exhibits a deep love of cultured house music and analog drum machines. Tape Jam Pt 2 is the perfect mix of improvisation and pure groove, put down in a rough and gritty fashion. 0221 (Serious Mix) merges a breakbeat with pads and synths that give off a balearic sunrise vibe, while Motion Anthem wraps up the EP with a tougher groove coupled with wistful melodies and oceans of feeling.

He's as consistent as he is prolific so it's no surprise that Omar-S is back yet again with yet another EP well worth copping. This latest 12" direct from the Motor City features two different versions of the same tune and what a tune it is: first up is 'Can't Get' (vocal mix) which is signature stuff from Smith - dusty beats from an old analogue machine, slowly evolving synth leads that convey plenty of emotion and raw hi-hats. The mood is late night and sultry with a hint of menace and a gorgeous vocal hook is the icing on the cake. Flip it over and you'll get the Sub Mix with more stark synths and melodic edginess.

It’s approximately been a year since Antoine lost what would have been his debut album, ironically dubbed ‘Humour. Positivity & Affection’. In its wake, stemmed the idea for the producer to reform his conceptually based project (Mise En Place) into a vinyl only label. The Land Down Dunder EP being the first, of hopefully, many releases throughout this new imprint. The label head feels there is no better way to start this campaign, than with a body of work, entirely inspired by the modern, timeless TV Sitcom - The Office (us). The opener ‘Australian Reds’ looks to bridge the gap between Progressive House and Antoine interpretation of Minimal. Matched with Ghanian inherited grooves of course. ‘Colombian Whites’ as suggested by its title, widens the eyes and warms the soul with its textbook, 90’s House inspired Kicks, Hi’s and Baseline. Synthy melodies run throughout the mid(s) of the track to marry the ensemble together. Fitting for all terrains, but would be highly favoured in the Summer. The B-Side flips the script in tone, tempo and texture - pulling on Antoine’s repertoire for groove laden Techno - ‘Cafe Disco (AK’s Rare Groove Dub)’ brings you to the after hours of any setting with it’s full bodied percussive rhythms, beautifully automated soundscapes and highly persuasive swing. Lastly, the EP is capped off by ‘Threat Level Midnight’. A nod to Antoine’s versatility within the realms of House and Techno. An incredibly versatile track, structurally inspired by the producers love of Hip-Hop. A cacophony of ethereal chord progressions run throughout the track alongside one moody baseline, as well as solemn drum patterns which progress in both body-feel and stature.

The two have a mutual love of classic disco and found a kindred spirit in Suki Soul, who has been tearing up the scene the last few years in Northern England. I Found Peace features Michael on guitar and Natahsha on drum machines and synths alongside Michael’s long-time studio band mates. Classical composer and legendary Pittsburgh hip hop producer Jules Krishnamurti adds bass guitar and University of Pennsylvnia jazz ensemble leader Dan Paul plays keyboards on this incredible modern disco classic.
