A creation of ex-Warm Soda bandleader Matthew Melton and his wife Doris Melton, Dream Machine is a Los Angeles based psych-rock group with a keen ear for vintage sounds. Influenced by classic rock like Heart, Deep Purple, and Iron Butterfly, the group features Melton on guitar, bass and vocals, his wife Doris on organ, synth, and vocals, and Billy Odyssey on drums. After being unfairly cancelled by their former record label, Dream Machine went rogue, moving forward by releasing on Matthew Melton's own Fuzz City Records, and establishing a headquarters on their YouTube Channel where they document their analog recording process and discuss various topics. There's something for everyone on Dream Machine's highly anticipated 3rd studio album: "Living The Dream". It exists in its own space, somewhere between 70s Prog Rock and 80s Synth Pop. In a partial departure from the heavy psych and prog-influenced garage rock they've been previously known for, "Living The Dream" offers something new, with a more developed sound. Some tracks, including "You Forgot To Dream", feel like early 80s synth pop, and "Until Tomorrow" flirts with disco on an otherwise mellow rock track that soon erupts into a compelling synthesizer solo that will sweep all your cares away.

Bringing to mind the playfully ghoulish work of new wave acts like Oingo Boingo, the album presents its dark themes with mischievous relish. Anthony Fantano of The Needle Drop included it in his Best of 2016 list with an 8/10 rating, praising its clever lyrics, high energy, and catchy songwriting.

Available now, Spirit Phone has been remastered by experimental sound guru Mark Kramer with new original art by Ming Doyle. Along with the 14 tracks that comprise the album proper, side 4 includes 5 bonus tracks. Manila Ice showcases Eyedress's unique talent for lovesick composition and songwriting, and his DIY spirit. The album was recorded around the birth of his first child and represents the hopes and fears of a young parent as well as providing him an escape from the realities of his personal life and the dramatic political events unfolding in his home city. He recorded and produced the entire album from his bedroom studio at his parents house - playing lead and rhythm guitar, bass, synths, samplers, drums alongside singing and rapping.

His music is informed by the diverse influences of his early life in Phoenix, Arizona and San Clemente, California followed by his family’s return to The Philippines aged 15. Taking to sampling and beat making as much as traditional musicianship, his thirst for expression has seen him turn his unique voice to rap, punk, synth pop and lo-fi indie styles. On Manila Ice he strips his experimentation back to a more traditional songwriting, and brings a striking honesty to the narratives which weave through the record.

Weasel Walter’s mastering job is more of an act of terrorism than anything else but it perfectly captures the intensity of seeing them live in, say, your bathroom. This record right here is Coachwhips at their bloody-nosed best, way past in the red, shoving white-hot heart-attack anthems like “You Gonna Get It,” “Evil Son” and “Thee Alarm” straight through your reptilian brain and into the sweaty crowd behind you. Essential listening for anyone with a pulse and a chip on their shoulder. Remastered and recut at 45 RPM for maximum blunt force. We found the artwork all beat up but we nursed it back to health. It’s never been louder, clearer or more fun than this, and it’s out on Castle Face Records on Record Store Day 2015.

Our lad John P. Dwyer has been lancing eardrums with Thee Oh Sees in an ever-escalating flurry of records for the past six years. Since the release of The Master’s Bedroom Is Worth Spending a Night In announced a new loud era (and excepting a few momentary detours into home-baked territory—Dog Poison and Castlemania, for example), Dwyer and company have pummeled a bit harder each time out, cementing their reputation as a live force to be reckoned with and leaving legions sweaty and bruised in the process. Late last year, after years of relentlessly touring the world, the word got out… Dwyer’s moving to Los Angeles (fear not, still California!) and Thee Oh Sees are taking a much-needed hiatus with a shifting of gears ahead and a new album on the way. This is that album.

Drop was recorded in a banana-ripening warehouse (no joke) with hair-farming studio warlock Chris Woodhouse playing drums; it’s also graced with the presence of talented gurus Mikal Cronin, Greer McGettrick and Casafis adding horns and vocals. The result pushes the familiar polarities of the group farther outward than ever before. Opener “Penetrating Eye” might be the heaviest Oh Sees song yet, “Transparent World” and “Put Some Reverb On My Brother” foam with seasick fuzz, and yet the ballads, like the harpsichorded “King’s Nose” and the lush and stately closer “The Lens,” extend their oeuvre into mellotronic, far-out pop with delicacy and grace.

This schizophrenia heralds the man and the band into an unseen future in classic Dwyer fashion—restless energy harnessed into exquisitely crafted jams, with an emphasis on the pensive and the paranoid in turns.

"In evidence throughout is Troth’s penchant for capturing and collecting sounds from their environments, transforming field recordings, organic and non-organic sonic sources into textures of a palette that they then compose and improvise with. There’s a virtuosity of sampling and sound manipulation. It’s always a good sign when you cannot explain why a band is so awesome. It means something new and inexplicable is at work in their music. Småland, Sweden’s Allvaret is that awesome. The elements are easy enough to define: there are the surf-drenched guitars, the outstanding female vocals and the rock ‘n’ roll frenzy of X – a sound which has been brewing in Denmark and Sweden over the last decade with bands like Masshysteri, THE Vicious, Terrible Feelings, Vana Inget, and NO Hope FOR THE Kids. But there is something more than that, too. Their tuneful hooks take hold of you, drag you deep into their bleak and feral songs and threaten to tear you apart once you’ve been captured. Their music is simultaneously melancholic, frantic, and joyfully danceable. It’s wild and new and something wholly of its own. The energetic melodies that blast through Allvaret’s new album are simply mind-blowing. This Swedish punk band will release their 2nd Album – and it may just be one of the best things that have ever been produced in the history of Swedish melodic punk rock. The anthemic vocals of Sushila are the perfect balance of aggression and sincerity, while the predominantly choppy guitar chords and the drumbeats keep up the motivating energy that drives their music. The ten short and catchy songs that make up this album are simple yet powerful, and the beginning of each new track jolts the listener back into their music. At first, the inability to understand their lyrics may seem jarring to the foreign listener. However, after listening to the entire album a few times, I forgot they were even singing in Swedish! The surf-rocky guitars and snappy punk drumming release sustaining energy, while the passionate tone of the harmonized male-female vocals, at times angry and at times melancholic, create the perfect blend of hooks that will grab you and lead you into a place set up by this musical phenomenon. Any fan of stripped-down garagey punk that is derived from the past but doesn’t live in it would be well-advised to check out Allvaret. Their latest album demonstrates the extent to which they have honed each of their many strengths, re-configuring rather than regurgitating influences and crafting songs which will lodge themselves firmly into the head of any listener, regardless of whether or not he or she can understand the lyrics.

Fabienne moved to London in 1996, almost immediately joining the Bristols, a then studio project consisting of Liam Watson and Ed Deegan, two producer-engineers at Toerag Studios. After two albums, a few singles and several tours of Europe, the Bristols came to an end. Eager to carry on singing, Fabienne went solo in 2004. A download code is included. Bélver Yin’s soul mining odysseys have been unjustly overlooked for three decades. An anomaly in the Spanish alt-pop scene, their forlorn instrumentals and ethereal romanticism would have struck a chord in the British league of Felt, The Chameleons, Cocteau Twins and Dif Juz, leaving their 1991 debut Luz Bel deserving of reappraisal. While coining their band name from a Jesús Ferrero novel and quoting Laozi philosophy on album sleeves, Bélver Yin create illuminating textures that unlock a wordless language of memory and adolescent emotion. Formed in Salamanca by self-taught musicians Pedro Ortega Sánchez and José María Martín, the guitar-bass duo spent two years crafting their divine interplay with interim drummers before submitting a demo to Noisex Music, their only attempt at label courting. The phone rang mere days later with owner and producer Bernar Marks (The Dust Sessions) offering to cut an album and the band ventured to Valencia with cloud-touching optimism soon after. Championed by local press, the release fell short of expectation, fueling the mythology of a vanished band known only to the initiated. Varying lineups would, however, continue to work in the shadows under Pedro’s direction, recording two spatially arranged follow-ups at their own pace in 1996 and 2005. A glorious debut that undeniably set a high watermark, Luz Bel is finally available again, faithfully remastered by Mikey Young and featuring bilingual liner notes from John Gómez, the authoritative ear behind Outro Tempo.
