The two-tracker finds the artist both deepening his expansive sound and honing it to weave seamlessly into any DJ set. “tincture / MY Simulacra” solidifies the cinematic textures and rusty low-end percussive drive of 2lanes’ earlier releases this year, “Diamond Rain Ep'' & “Sid Ranger Redux EP.” Spending much of this past year on the road, 2lanes dove headfirst into the contemporary electronic music world, meeting an array of new and exciting producers, some of which are featured remixers on this release. On the A side, take a dose of Tincture and see just how far the rabbit hole goes. Inspired by raving all night with friends, 2lanes linked with Detroit-based singer Akillaco for a wild talking track like none other. We all know those moments at the party when both nothing and everything makes sense. You want to be prophetic but you just make everyone laugh. You think about the past, future, & present all at once. This is the ultimate message of Tincture, which Akillaco emphatically points out. The long-winded musing is underlined by a heavy swung style beat that 2lanes fans have come to know well. Frequent 2lanes collaborator Salar Ansari joins the fun for the steamy, guitar-laden Howling Diablo remix that could as easily be played at a forest rave as a sleazy dive bar a la Coyote Ugly. Purelink’s Millia reduces the solution to an even dubbier chill out mix that begs to be played in the early mornings. On the B side, we have the bass-heavy vision quest MY Simulacra. Ancient percussion meets modern sub bass–and together, they transport you to a new plane of being. This track also features performances from a few regular 2lanes sonic cohorts. Detroit keyboard prodigy Ian Fink (Scott Grooves Ensemble, Omar S) evokes celestial moments with a memotron solo, and Jonah Baseball (Overtone Series) provides a stargate-sounding break beat. MY Simulacra features two amazing remixes. The First is from Baltimore-based club aficionado Jialing and the second is a prime cut of rough and ready machine phunk from Los Angele’s 1morning. Initially recorded at 2lanes’ home studio over Halloween in 2021, Tincture has since evolved to its final form that we see now. The tune has even shown up in sets from electric selectors like Scott Zacharias and Livwutang. The record label features beautiful artistic renditions by Norway-based Sverre Brand, whose work can be found on releases by Priori and Dust E-1. As the label strides into 2023 it was time to unleash another vinyl only release to follow on from the first successful release from Tommy Vicari Jnr. This 2nd instalment comes courtesy of NYCâ€™s Adam Collins which is accompanied by a wicked remix from non-other than Grant Dell. Adamâ€™s first outing on the label was in 2013 and then in 2016 with fellow New Yorker Andrew Hobold (rip) so it was time we had him back on the label again. Both Adam and Grant have notched up a pretty impressive release list over the years so itâ€™s great to have them on board both together for this superb EP. 180g Vinyl! The summer of 2008, the Echo Inspectors are touring Germany. One of their stops lands them in Koln, after getting their fix of record shopping at Kompakt they would meet up at a local bar with Pawas who just remixed their latest record. Joining the guys for a mid afternoon beer would be local producer and friend of Pawas, Adam Kroll. Fast forward to 2020 and Adam would reappear on the radar as Adam K.Roll with a fresh new dub sound, completely different to the minimal techno records of the mid 2000s. This fresh take on dub would capture the interest of the Echo Inspectors. Many DMs later would lead to Adam producing five fresh tunes for Primary Colours. Trying to describe Adams music is not easy. Adam seamlessly blends the sounds of Dub Techno, Ambience, Electronica, Jamaican Dub and an infusion of summer island sounds. Primary Colours has the honour of re-releasing one of their favourite Adam K.Roll tunes, Into The Ocean, initially released digitally on Adams on Bandcamp page, Into the Ocean has been reborn on wax. We loved it so much that we got the Echo Inspectors to remix it into a formidable dub techno groover. Over the past 20 years Andrew Haines has also been engaged in creating works of analogue film photography, researching folklore, practising spirituality, exploring herbalism and world travel. As an artist Merix is currently based between Galway in western Ireland, the hills of northern Cymru and Long Island, New York State in USA.

This EP is more than your usual remix package—»Remixed« is a meeting of kindred, idiosyncratic spirits. Ricardo Villalobos, Ada, and Tolouse Low Trax each give a new spin to one track from »You're Super In Diagonal«, the latest album by Ant Orange. Their versions of »Monogome«, »Flutter«, and »Cracker« are complemented by the brand-new track by the elusive artist, »fff«.

Villalobos keeps it short and sweet—at least by his standards. His rendition of »Monogome« translates the mutant jungle vibes of the original into an entirely different dialect while maintaining its psychedelic qualities. The chugging, nine-minute-long »Siebhouse Remix« is at once rhythmically intricate and positively disorientating. Ada proves to be as imaginative as ever with her first remix in three years. Her take on the album opener »Flutter« extracts the track’s warmth and transplants it into a laid-back downbeat track. She also incorporates the vocals from »Monogome«, but gives it a very different spin and adds a healthy dose of autotune to it in the process. Dreamy, hazy, blissful.

On the flipside, Detlef Weinrich approaches things very differently. His »Bo Bo Zy Remix« of »Cracker« offers industrial at its most inebriated, dub riddims after a bottle of hard liquor instead of a spliff. Ant Orange’s »fff« then seems to mediate between those three very different approaches: danceable yet melancholic, challenging yet restrained, it picks up on the underlying concept of »You're Super In Diagonal«, combining IDM’s penchant for complex rhythmic structures and a directness inherent to hip-hop music since the early days of the genre up until the age of UK drill.

Despite being the offspring of an architect and a chemical engineer, Ayjay Nils and his four siblings starting playing musical instruments at a very early age. Ayjay had a viola put in his hand and he’s been playing it ever since. In 2007, while enrolled at the Juilliard School of Music in New York, he began writing hip-hop beats that sampled classical music, while also composing “classical” music itself. In 2015, Ayjay joined the Berliner Philharmoniker (where he is still a fixed member). In his first five years in Berlin, Ayjay put his creative activities on pause to make way for his new job and family. But eventually his impulse to make music began to remanifest itself. Ayjay hoarded synthesizers and drum machines, sampled his children’s annoying electronic toys, and resumed composing at the piano. His influences are too much of a hot mess to glean from merely listening, but they range from eastern European and Middle-Eastern folk music; MF Doom; Henry Miller; Louie Barletta; the biographies of the great composers; the Sopranos; and crucially —the 1990s Chicago Bulls.

South-east Turkey born DJ, sound artist and producer Banu uses music as a political tool. For her, the strong message carried through sound is a vehicle to express emotions as well as a means of fighting against oppression. Using participation, social design, ecology, feminist and queer theory to create multimedia installations with sound as a main element, Banu‘s practice is closer to contemporary art and activist spaces than the club realm.

Banu‘s debut album TransSoundScapes is an exercise in female solidarity between her as a migrant woman and her sisters from the trans community, where an artist from one marginalised group is showing support towards her trans sisters, using her platform to help them amplify their voices and building a bridge towards a mutual understanding of femininity.

Conceptually, TransSoundScapes comes in continuation of Banu‘s previous research-based work, using music as a positive tool for change while working with various marginalised communities. The album originated from the very real experience of being confronted with verbal harassment in Berlin on a daily basis, particularly aimed at her transfeminine friends and companions. As a queer woman of Turkish and Kurdish origin, Banu did not only observe the verbal aggression directed at her friends, but also understood most of the insults shouted in languages such as Arabic. Seeing how she got signifi cantly more verbal violence directed at them when in company of trans people made a lasting impression on her, so she wanted to try and use her relative privilege to amplify transfeminine voices through her music.

Coming from a very conservative family, making music has been her lifelong dream. It was the moment she had the opportunity to work with the iconic Arp 2600 synthesiser (a younger sibling to Eliane Radigue‘s infamous 2500 machine) that all her disparate interests came into place to create an empowering soundscape with the aid of analogue drum machines. TransSoundScapes has a very full, porous sound, where every element that comes into play sounds soft yet clear. Across the 7 tracks, Banu conjures pounding subterraneous bassy techno („Surgery“), slithering tentacular EBM („First Time“) and pulsating cavernous soundscapes („Harem“), where oversized dancefl oor elements are woven with poetic spoken word passages, resulting in sensusous yet political anthems. Banu artfully merges loosely related genres such as techno, electro, dub and sound poems into a sound that is at once deeply personal and extremely compelling.

All of the tracks are collaborative efforts, Banu seeing the process as an exchange of care and shared experiences, while integrating research into her writing process. The lyrics in „Transition (part 1+2)‘‘ are an adaptation of Sara Ahmed’s “Living a Feminist Life”, while „Surgery“ was born out of series of interviews with trans people, channeling the metallic sounds of a surgery room to refer to society‘s perception of transness as a medical condition. Tracks like „First Time feat. Patricia“, „Harem feat. Prince Emrah“ or „We feat. Aérea Negrot“ document her encounters with various trans women, centering their life experiences while also developing a deep dialogue through the process of making music together.

The darkest and perhaps the most emblematic track is ‚‘Bianka (In Memory Of)‘‘, dedicated to the late Bianka Shigurova, a 22-year old Georgian actress found dead in her apartment. It was her Tbilisi photographer friend George Nebriedze who told her Bianka‘s tragic story, whose death is suspected to be an assasination due to transphobia. Banu chose one of Nebriedze‘s analogue photos of Bianka as the album‘s cover art.

Irish DJ and producer, Ben Prophet, has caught the attention of some of the electronic scene’s most influential names in recent years. Currently residing in the underground music hub of Newcastle, his dark and exhilarating tracks have proven to captivate dancefloors. Now the artist is set to embark on his most monumental release to date, with the four track EP ‘From Dusk’. Staying distinctly true to himself, the EP channels Prophet’s love for bassline, electronica, and techno, whilst placing a key focus on mechanical vocals that add a mind-bending element that listeners can get lost in. ‘From Dusk’ will be released to the world via HAAi and Alice Pelly’s Radical New Theory label, a proven base for projecting emerging talent.

‘From Dusk’ is an EP that serves as a bold declaration. Prophet was determined to take listeners on a journey across the four tracks. Never resting on his laurels, the artist ventured into many corners of the dance world, whilst maintaining a core signature sound. Opener ‘Telepathy’ Sees Prophet build an emphatic, heavy hitting techno track, centring around a manipulated spoken-word vocal. It’s a sound that holds nothing back and is showcased again on ‘Down The Rabbit Hole’. Equally dark in its design, Prophet once more places distorted vocals at the forefront, this time displaying an industrial take on breakbeat. On the flip side, we see ‘Ocarina’ and title track ‘From Dusk’ turn the dark energy on its head with a distinctly melodic approach which adds a touch of psychedelia and high emotion to the EP. What’s clear is there’s something on ‘From Dusk’ for anyone that loves club music.

Speaking on the release, Prophet states:“HAAi has been one of the biggest inspirations for my sound, so to have become friends and to release my music on her label Radical New Theory is a massive moment for me. I’ve taken a different approach on each track, but each has my signature sound and is ready for the dance floor.”

HAAi also offers an insight into why she wanted to release ‘From Dusk’ on Radical New Theory: “Ben Prophet’s tracks have such a driving force and a dark energy to them, which is so powerful in the club. I’m extremely excited to get this record out in the world.”

Blazej Malinowski joins forces with Neel, Claudio PRC, Milena Glowacka and Svreca for a collaborative EP via his own Inner Tension imprint this May.

Over the past decade, Poland-born now Berlin-based producer, DJ Blazej Malinowski has been deliver his twist on Techno via imprint such as Semantica, Kvalia, TGP, 012 and of course his own Inner Tension label where he returns here with a new collaborative EP. The idea behind the record was to merge Blazej with artists he has close connections to and create music that would capture the moment in time at which it was made, based on pure emotion and without limitation. The resultant 'Are We All Alone or Just Overwhelmed?' EP is testament to Blazej's inherent connection to Techno.

Up first on the package is 'Time Is Relative', a collaboration with Italian DJ, producer and engineer Neel which meanders through an amalgamation of intricately intertwined synth leads, robust percussion, and a grinding low- end drive. 'Riddle' with Claudio PRC follows and wanders into deeper territories via ethereal, billowing textures, metallic chimes and resonant synth flutters floating atop a circling bass groove and crisp drums.

On the flip-side Milena Glowacka joins Blazej for 'Equal', a subtly unfurling composition laid out across seven minutes with bubbling tones, dynamic percussive elements and a pulsating low-end. 'Coincidence', composed with Svreca then rounds out the release, a murky journey through haunting atmospherics, bumpy off-kilter drums, and eerie percussive fills.

To make attemporal electronic music is one of our objectives and this record in particular deserves a place in the list of music to be played loud when all this nightmare finishes. First cut on wax is Of sleep and tears, an emotional title that describes a dronney atmospheric introduction. Beatless, textured, full of resonant details and space wind. Pouring Flesh brings the beat to the scene with a clear bass drum and a shuffled bassline setting the patch to martian synth noises and stereo details, all enclosed in an intelligent structure full of subtle twists and hypnosis. The thinking hand combines synthetic details with precise beats on a progressive arrangement.Elements come into action wisely, pulsating electronic grooves fighting with floaty elements make the recipe. Fluids above the skin open the B side in a darker mood. Heavy sub bass action and profound synthesizer lines setting the mood for what comes next. Label head Blue Hour steps up for the next release with an impressive two tracker, offering a new exploration of sound from the Berlin based producer. First up on the A side ‘Dimensions’ reveals a dramatic and eery driving Techno track with an atmosphere akin to early British IDM releases but with a more dancefloor-focused approach. ‘Dimensions’ is punctuated by warped mechanical percussive fx, pummeling drums and relentless groove highlighted by a simple yet effective melodic line which boldly opens things up and cuts through the complex layering of sound as the track evolves. On the B side ‘Sun Dogz’ adopts a similar soundscape, however picks up the tempo with a more Trance orientated production inspired by darker Goa/Psy styles and modern Fast-Trance productions. Hypnotic acidic lines, spatial fx and tribal percussion guide the listener to the main event. A heavily reverbed metallic hook and unique piece of sound design which takes multiple twists and turns along the course of the track. The EP wraps up a year of multiple successful releases from the label, with next year marking 10 years since the labels inception - keep an eye on things to come.
