At the Moers Festival 2018, OXBOW got together with Peter Brötzmann to deliver a memorable performance, bringing out the best of two legends in their very own genres while playing old and new Oxbow songs together.Oxbow, formed in 1988 in San Francisco, plays a blend of noise rock, avant garde jazz, musique concrè te and blues, creating intimate soundscapes, with overtones of paranoia, revulsion and exaltation. They released a couple of cult albums, eg. on. Neurot, Hydra Head. Peter Brötzmann , active since the 60s with his distinct saxophone sound, is one of the key musicians in European Free Jazz.,I think we have at least one thing in common: a certain kind of energy, which we could share and where we will meet."Peter Brötzmann***Peter Brötzmann -saxophone /Eugene S. From the outset this ad hoc quartet hit the gas, launching into a frenzied, high-octane set with alto saxophonist Rasmussen engaging in a furious tightrope-walk of upper register screams while O'Rourke unspools some of the most gnarly guitar noise this side of Masayuki Takayanagi. Of course, with such flinty, seasoned improvisers there are thrilling peaks-and-valleys, such as the extended hydroplaning guitar O'Rourke sculpts mid-way through the first extended piece, with the rest of the group taking a much-deserved pause. The pause sets the stage of a thrilling recalibration, with Corsano first diving in with an epic improvisation only to recede for one of Sakata's singular vocal improvisations, a throaty incantation as dynamic and visceral as his alto playing. Rasmussen returns, with Sakata picking up his clarinet, and suddenly the twinned reed blast that started the whole performance toggles into more spacious interplay, tapping into jazz orthodoxy without being held captive by it. - The entire recording is a testament to refined listening. Even at the most scorching peaks each player is deftly attuned to one another's sonic projections. Bridging generations, continents, and individual aesthetics, Rasmussen, Corsano, Sakata, and O'Rourke find common cause, convening for an evening of galvanic sound that's simultaneously exhilarating and spiritual. - Akira Sakata - saxophone, voice - Jim O'Rourke - guitar - Mette Rasmussen - saxophone - Chris Corsano - drumsColoured marble vinyl LP!

Since the start in 1997 there have been eight different versions of the NU ensemble - a new piece, a new line-up, a new theme - every time. Previous editions have focused on the Sami culture, Patti Smith, Ligeti, architecture and more. For HIDROS 8 - HEAL Mats Gustafsson took inspiration from the state of the world: HIDROS 8 - HEAL is an attempt to rise and find the questions about the state of things. there is an extreme unbalance on local and global levels at the moment _ from ideological, economical, cultural and political perspectives - and we need an equilibrium of some sorts very soon. Can it HEAL ? What can make it all HEAL? And for how long can it HEAL?

Spectacular live recording from 1986 of two seminal figures of the Japanese avantgarde - Akira Sakata on saxophone and Takeo Moriyama on drums.Mitochondria captures the reunion of the two free jazz masters, who started playing together in the Yosuke Yamashita Trio in 1972 until 1975. For both, the experience with the trio was an important step in the development of their own career and musicianship. The recordings are a remarkable performance in which each successfully highlights the essential elements of his playing while giving of room for the other musician.Recorded at Kashiwa Church Chiba Pref. Paradiso Infernal is a new electronics and guitar duo from Vienna, comprising of members Christina Nemec and Christian Schachinger.Schachinger and Nemec have previously collaborated in the trio Shampoo Boy with Peter Rehberg, a powerful alloy of extreme noise, dark drones, luminous ambience and fundaments of rock (Blackest Ever Black).Schachinger was involved in the 90s Indieband OCCIDENTAL BLUE HARMONY LOVERS, the Schlager Coverband DER SCHEITEL and most notably PETERLICKER a noise rock band feat. Rehberg (Editions Mego).Nemec's background lies in avant-rock and industrial outfits such as BRAY and the feminist performance group SV DAMENKRAFT. She remains highly active as a solo artist and composer, both as CHRA and under her own name. Her lates solo album »Seamons« was released on Editions Mego in 2020. This Is Music By Four Strong Individual Players With Room For Eruptive Solo-Parts, But Always Held Together By Intensecommunication And Beautiful Interwoven Melodies. The Quartet's Second Album A History Of Nothing (Trostrecords/Tr170) Got A Huge Number Of Excited Reviews:A Superb Quartet Outing. The Music Is All Improvised, But It's Firmly Rooted In Jazz, With Superb Interaction Between All Ofthe Players, Both On Ripping, High-Velocity Blowouts And More Delicate Forays. (Peter Margasak, Chicago Reader)Freedom Is Clearly A Responsibility As Well As A Joy, And It's Emphasized Here By The Group's Shared Commitment: Eachmusician Is Constantly Working In Two Directions, Stretching Further And Creating Cohesion. The Music Is Improvised Withsuch An Ear To Complementary Detail That It's Literally Being Collectively Composed. (Stuart Broomer, Free Jazz Collective)Together, This Quartet Is Dynamite. It's Exciting To Hear A European Musician Along With Three Americans, And Notice Thatthey Communicate So Well. Initially Formed And Lead By Austrian Electronic Musician Christof Kurzmann, The Project Is Reflecting The Difficult Political Situation Of The Refugee Movements To Europe - And How Politicians Deal With It In A Selfish And Unhumanitarian Way. Christof Kurzmann, Sofia Jernberg, Martin Brandlmayr (Radian) And Joe Williamson Reinterpret And Process In Quiet Waves Of Emotions And Thoughtful Lyrics - Concentrated Music Between Serenity And Sheer Beauty, Esp When Kurzmann And Jernberg Sing A Duet With Joe Mcphees Lyrics"A Concert Is Also An Artistic Polyphony Of Voices And Temperaments, And There Is Something Special Going On Here. It Is In The Way These Musicians Balance Abstraction With Direction. It Is In The Way Martin Brandlmayr Carefully Uses Those Thin Sticks And That Extended Drum Kit, And Joe Williamson Thatbow, The Strings And Body Of The Bass, To Create T His Ever Transforming, Detailed Rhythmical And Texturalflow. It Is In The Way Sofia Jernberg Uses Her Voice In The Subtlest Of Ways, Her Breath, Soft Moans And Occasionally Voluminous Siren Call Joining The Four-Way Discussion. Or In The Way Christof Kurzmann Guides This Quartet With His Lloopp Software, A Restless Web Of Textures, Mirror And Echo Effects, Sonar Pulses, Discreet And Alienating Hums. Tashi Dorji (electric guitar) and Tyler Damon (drums/percussion) have developed a musical language that is not only shaped by original forms as free jazz, metal, rock and Buddhist monastic music. Their sound merges passion and emotions of literature, art, cultural movements, politics - flashes of ecstatic intensity, blurred timbral lines, fractal repetition, noir-ish, cinematic mystery and inclinations toward free play hint that the two are pleased to follow a winding path to destinations yet unknown.Recorded by Dave Zuchowski, March 25th, 2018, as part of Elastic Arts' 2018, Chicago.Mixed by John Dawson, Mastered by Martin Siewert Artwork by Aaron TurnerIn 2017 the duo released an album for Trost with danish saxophon player Mette Rasmussen."Together, the combination of Dorji's high-end metallic power-tool skree and Damon's manic-but-earthy hippie clomping are a perfect pairing. Each has a musical spoon in the other guy's soup to begin with, resulting in a collaboration that seems almost brotherly. [_] I'd say expect great things, but they're already happening." - The Free Jazz CollectiveTracklisting A. To Catch A Bird In A Net Of Wind (20:31)B. Upon The Rim Of The Well (18:39)

Massive industrial noise and free jazz blasts_ 16-17 returning with new material after 25 years. Founded 1983 in Basel by saxophonist Alex Buess and former drummer Knut Remond, they have been shaping the forefront of a new sound area. Playing an abrasive distorted mix of dub, hardcore and free jazz that lead to a meeting of likeminded heavy heads that temporally took part in the band e.g. Kevin Martin (The Bug, Techno Animal) or G.C. Green (Godflesh). After marking their presence and extensive European tours, the band officially split up in 2000. The basis of the new LP Phantom Limb was recorded in 1995 by a new line-up with Alex Buess, Damian Bennett (Techno Animal) and Michael Wertmüller (Full Blast, Nohome, Alboth) additionally expanded by vocalist and writer Eugene S. Robinson (Oxbow) and Kasia Meow. New Line upAlex Buess: Saxes & Bassclarinet, Electronics, VoiceDamian Bennett: BassMichael Wertmüller: DrumsEugene S. A long desire of extraordinaire saxophone player Peter Brötzmann was a studio recording of some of his favourite jazz tunes and his own music - a grande bridge over the music important for his life and his musical career in the past and present.... we invited him to Martin Siewert's studio in Vienna to do so in summer 2018. The result is intense, beautiful and touching. Peter Brötzmann: Tenor SaxophoneRecorded, Mixed and Mastered by Martin SiewertLinernotes and Artwork by Peter BrötzmannAfter 3 days of recording at Martin S's studio we had 7 hours of sheer music in the box. To tell the truth - I still haven't heard it all. To make it work I had to select, decided for just the tenor. I didn't come to the studio with a ,concept', a list of tunes or something like that. When I walk through the woods or stroll through a city I'm always whistling, tunes I have in my head through all my life and the only idea for this recording was to show - mostly to myself - the connection between what has been and what there is right NOW - the one can't exist without the other. You know - what was called ,revolution' in the 60ties was nothing more than the logical step in the right direction, strong but not strong enough if you have a look and listen what is happening in nowadays music and art. There are two ways to master this life - trying to be clever and fulfill expectations or to take a (sometimes very masochistic) stroll through time and eternity, trying to find out what's wrong with you. And if you have the feeling the bait is coming closer somebody moves the hook more far away again. That's what I am busy with and _. fuck the rest of the world. PeterBrötzmann, Wuppertal, 18th of August 2019THE LEFT DOESN'T HAVE ANY ANSWERS ANYMORE, THAT'S WHY IT LOVES THE MORAL SOMUCH INSTEAD OF DOING SOMETHING FOR THE EXPLOITED OF OUR WORLD. Slavoj ÄiPek
