Magnetically Stabilized Record Broom

Easy and effective cleaning arm

Record brooms have been around since the early 1970s. Some of them do a good job, some rather not. In many cases the brush rushes towards the middle of the platter, running out of sync with the tonearm. This phenomenon is known as skating. Recent developments aim to tackle this problem. Here the highly efficient neodymium magnet comes into play. These magnets are used to stabilize the record broom of the Sweep it S2. Sweep it S2 is constructed in collaboration with Klaus Mick and uses his patented technology to stabilize the record broom. Extensive theoretical and empirical research has been put into the development of this product.
The magnetic attraction between the neodymium magnet – based in the top part of the cylinder – and the [Fe] core/counterweight stabilizes the record brush. Moreover, the distance between the neodymium magnet and the [Fe] core/counterweight is carefully chosen to ensure a specific magnetic stabilization force. As the aluminium of the brusharm is paramagnetic, it acts like an additional space between the neodymium magnet and the [Fe] core/counterweight.
Sweep it S2 is height adjustable within a range of about 1cm. The position can be locked with the set screw on the base. With this mechanism, it is possible to adjust the height of the arm of the record broom in order to align it horizontally with the platter. A correct horizontal alignment ensures the correct tracking force of about 6g.
Flexible placement

The record broom can be placed in one of two left hand side corners of the turntable. The placement is depending on the type and shape of your turntable. At the optimal position the brush should align with the spindle (i.e. the center of the platter). Deviations (relative to the spindle) between 1,5 to 2 cm are well compensated by design of the Sweep it S2. Higher deviations can cause more drastic skating effects.

New motor suspension
A good motor by itself, is already very quiet. To get the best performance out of it, we have improved the motor suspension. The X2‘s motor chassis is carefully balanced and suspended on a precision tuned TPE belt - this way the motor chassis is effectively decoupled from the main plinth for optimal performance.

The Tonearm - 9'' Carbon-Aluminium Tonearm
Finished as a one-piece, with no resonance-inducing headshell, the X2 can also be set for azimuth and VTA adjustment. The tonearm is then supplied with a TPE-damped counterweight.
Compared with its little brother the X1, the tonearm is longer - 9“ in length - and the tube has a wider diameter. The carbon/aluminium sandwhich construction results in better internal damping. The increased mass makes the tonearm an excellent fit for low compliance MC cartridges.

The ultimate sub-chassis turntable for the 21st century

The transparent acrylic plinth stands on three individually height-adjustable TPE-damped aluminium cones and carries the motor and the sub-chassis. The sub-chassis, made of Corian, rests on three magnetic fields. A magnetic sub-chassis suspension system avoids parasitic noise normally caused by conventional spring mechanism. A supplied spirit level allows easy adjustment of the sub-chassis. A quiet running AC motor unit drives the platter’s outside edge via a belt. It does incorporate an advanced DC-driven motor control, that ensures perfect speed stability and electronic speed change.

The resonance-optimised platter is a sandwich construction utilising a fine-balanced medium density fibre platter and a 4 mm thick flat-ground layer of vinyl and a screw-down metal record clamp. It runs on an inverted bearing with stainless-steel axle carrying a ceramic ball/ plate bearing. With a smart tonearm design we were able to combine pure sound quality with an easy setup. Our Plug & Play design with pre-adjusted tracking force and anti-skating for the included Ortofon OM cartridge has saved us costs and is extremely efficient in handling for our customers.

No compromise in sound: On contraire, the lightweight and low friction aluminium tonearm is optimized for the Ortofon cartridge and will bring out its maximum potential. Also the vibration absorbing feet isolate the turntable from the surface it is place on to deliver the best sound possible. The Primary E Phono is equipped with a switchable phono/line output, so it can be run with a dedicated external phono preamp or with the integrated phono preamp connected to a line input (for example AUX, CD, Tuner, Tape, etc.). With intelligent construction and without needless features we were able to keep the price attractive, despite this product being handmade in Europe. Pro-Ject‘s classic turntable design reimagined!

Real high-end features – True audiophile sound

The X1 is based on the same concept as the P1, but improved in every aspect thanks to modern materials and new production methods. Inside it houses a sophisticated DC/AC generator board which, combined with the convenient speed control board, delivers clean and stable power to the quiet-running motor. For even further improved performance, the motor is decoupled from the main plinth using a new motor suspension system. In the X1, the motor drives a new, heavy, non-resonant Acryl platter via a sub-platter drive system and a premium grade main bearing for liquid smooth rotation.

The X1 is also better than its predecessors, thanks to the super-stiff, perfectly tempered Carbon/Alu sandwich construction tonearm. This new 8.6” tonearm design is incredibly light and stiff, with improved resistance to external interference. Finished as a one-piece, with no resonance-inducing headshell, the X1 can also be set for azimuth and VTA adjustment. The tonearm is then supplied with a TPE-damped counterweight, further reducing cartridge-tonearm resonances.
