Pharaoh Sanders was a tenor saxophone player best known for his work with John Coltrane in the 1960s where the ensembles they played in eschewed conventional song structures for music that was filled with raw unbridled creativity and lyricism. After the death of Trane, Pharaoh began to focus on his solo work with music that was more introspective and conceptual, yet still channeling the experimentation and fire that he brought to those records in the 60s. Wisdom Through Music is a monumental jazz record that brings together many influences from disparate parts of the globe.
