Alex Rossi Domani E Un'altra Notte

The answer to the question "why would you sing in English?" is pretty self-evident: it is rock and pop music's de facto lingua franca. But, as far as singing in Italian goes, the answer is a foregone conclusion - the language is literally melancholy made into music, and the theory definitely holds up when Alex Rossi is concerned.
Italy genuinely runs through the Veneto native's veins: it's only natural, then, that Rossi chose to sing in his native tongue. Let's rewind a bit: back in the 90s, Rossi signed to Mercury, released a bunch of records, and wrote lyrics for Axel Bauer and Dick Rivers: a rich career in a foreign country, with French as the working language. Because, as confirmed by the name Johnny Jewel and Mike Simonetti chose for their label (not to mention a t-shirt worn by a certain Madonna while addressing her papa), "Italians do it better", the Myspace era (also known as the 2000s) saw Rossi meet Romain Guerret and Arnaud Pilard (the duo that was at the time known by the very Italiy-evoking name of Dondolo, and would later become Aline), in the daedalus of the music-forward social network.
It was a sign. The trio bonded over their love of Lucio Battisti, Matia Bazar, Pino d'Angio and, more generally, italo-disco, leading to the idea that Alex should sing in his mother tongue. Meanwhile, Rossi continued his French escapade, not only singing in the language, but writing in it for a number of artists, especially women such as Graziella De Michele, and fashion designer Inès Olympe Mercadal, with his composer accomplice Dominique Pascaud. Other collaborations included working with composer-director Frédéric Lo, all while founding Situationist collective Ballu with journalist and writer Arnaud Viviant.
