Michel Legrand Legrand Jazz

One could argue that this overlooked classic is one of the most important compilation jazz recordings of its day. LeGrand fuzes an arrangement of melodies and mash-ups (before they were called mash-ups) and then conducts a Hall-of-Fame cast of musicians for many of the songs: Herbie Mann, flute; Miles Davis, trumpet; John Coltrane, tenor sax; Bill Evans, piano. Other recruiting efforts created different combinations of artists: this helps to showcase the uniqueness of the performers. Recorded in three separate sessions, these studio recordings create an ambiance which makes the listener feel as if the are "live in the studio." This is an essential lp for serious jazz collectors.
