Odd Nosdam Trish

Having cut his teeth producing warped and bombastic beats as a member of cLOUDDEAD, Nosdam has since gone on to record and release some of the most revered work in the post-millennial, abstract hip-hop world. Through his solo productions and various collaborations and remixes, the Anticon records co-founder traces an indelible strain of super-saturated, no-fi weirdness that intersects British IDM, West Coast hip-hop, and ethereal drone. His ‘T r i s h' EP first saw the light of day in late 2013, as a long sold-out cassette-only release on the Chicago label Baro; a digital release followed on Nosdam's own Burnco label. On the EP, Nosdam – real name David P. Madson – subtly pays homage to the late Broadcast singer Trish Keenan by revisiting the haunted, drum-lost remains of a failed follow up to his 2007 long-player, ‘Level Live Wires'. The long overdue 12” vinyl reissue is coming out to mark the fifth anniversary of Keenan's tragic death from pneumonia in January 2011. Across the six tracks, Nosdam harnesses the aural mystery of a sample-based approach with an emphasis on cassette manipulation and distortion. Overall, the ‘T r i s h' EP lingers and drifts through a shimmering fog of high-register sonics with introspectively tonal movements. While Nosdam's sound may intersect with Broadcast's at times, his approach on ‘T r i s h' is distinctly his own: a unique blend of emotive ambiguity and lush, wandering vacancy.
Clocking in at just over 25 minutes, with guest appearances by Bre'r and Grouper's Liz Harris, the ‘T r i s h' EP is as dense as it is reflective. The perfect tribute to a hugely missed talent.
