Item Description
Born in Kingston in 1952, Oku Onuora is a one-of-a-kind artist in Jamaica music history. Poet, but most of all political activist, he creates a new musical style in the late 70’s : Dub Poetry, engaged poetry written in Jamaican patois and vituperated on reggae rhythms. Right after, Mutabaruka in Jamaica, and especially Linton Kwesi Johnson and Michael Smith in England march in his footsteps to spread the genre and make it famous.
