Gjenferd is a brand new heavy Bergen-based band, formed in Kristiansand in 2020, inspired by heavy rock's childhood when Hammond organs and walls of guitar amplifiers dominated the stages. Long nights of lager, noise, obscure 70s records and rigging of way too heavy Fender Rhodes have resulted in an album that is a sonic explosion of tenacious and hard-hitting riffs, electric noise and idiotically catchy vocal harmonies. The album was recorded by Hans Uhre at Grisehuset, mixed & mastered by Iver Sandøy (Enslaved), and features stunning cover art by Robert Høyem.

“This early 70's Norwegian band played together for years without ever releasing an album; that is, until label Record Heaven heard about them in the late 90's and convinced them to re-record songs they had played live at the time. We can now enjoy a collection of highly energetic, raw and aggressive 70's power rock recorded with pristine modern technology. The band's material is reminiscent of Black Sabbath, Uriah Heep, early Scorpions and Jethro Tull, albeit a very manic Tull as the flutes battle it out savagely with pounding guitars. “En Fix Ferdig Mann”, their 8th album, and the very first sung in their native Norwegian language. And just as their fellow rockers from Norway, Arabs In Aspic, did with their 2017 album “Syndenes Magi” (also on Apollon) they pull out a very impressive and unique album whilst singing in Norwegian, arguable their masterpiece.

From one of the last few concerts of King Crimson’s final US tour of the ‘70s, “usa” was issued as an epitaph for the band in Spring 1975 as a single album, at a time when doubles or even triple live albums were considered more the norm for live releases. Deleted towards the end of the vinyl era in the mid-1980s, it remained unreleased in the CD era until the expanded edition was finally issued in October 2002. In common with much of Crimson’s output, it was not well received by critics when originally released, though its critical reputation grew immeasurably in the intervening years to the point where a review of the “21st Century Guide to King Crimson” boxed set in 2004 identified the album as the point

The duo unit Samuel Purdey, consisting of Gavin Dodds and Barney Harle, both former members of Jamiroquai during its early tours, released their only album "Musically Adrift" in 1999. This album, which involved talents from the Steely Dan circle such as producer Elliot Scheiner and guitarist Elliot Randall, continues to shine even a quarter-century after its release, serving as an enduring masterpiece in the realm of contemporary AOR. Netherworld marks a considerable step onwards from the territory that Louise Patricia Crane explored on her debut long player Deep Blue, crafting audial landscapes that go further into both inner and outer space; hallucinatory and surrealistic yet also grittier and more direct. For all that this stemmed in part from early Genesis and The Beatles, Netherworld also sits in alignment with the luxurious but oddly intimate realm of modern classics, by the likes of Tears For Fears, Tori Amos and Joni Mitchell, with passionate intensity set in a bold, cinematic vista. In realising these romantic and expansive visions, Crane not only wrote or co-wrote the entire album, but arranged, co-produced and played a wide variety of instruments on it. Yet as a supporting cast, she has surrounded herself with a formidable selection of mercurial contributors. Once again, Jakko M. Jakszyk (King Crimson) brings his fiery and mellifluous solo guitar work, as well as contributing backing vocals, keyboards and co-production. Elsewhere, the flute soliloquies of Tiny Bard are the work of Jethro Tull’s Ian Andersonwhile saxophone duties are handled by Mel Collins, whose work with King Crimson marks only one chapter in an incredibly storied life in music. Providing violin and viola across the stylistic expanse of the album, Shir-Ran Yinon (New Model Army / Eluveitie) returns as a collaborator. The rhythm section for the lion's share of the record consists of the dream team of Tony Levin (King Crimson / Peter Gabriel) and Gary Husband (John McLaughlin / Billy Cobham / Allan Holdsworth) with Nick Beggs stepping in on bass for Dance With The Devil and upright bass on Long Kiss Goodnight. Crucially however, even amidst this kind of company, Louise’s voice and vision is never remotely overshadowed—with the talents on offer only serving to make the backdrop to her songs still more vivid, sharp and intense. In as much as Netherworld is a work that exists on a lineage of progressive music and the visionary artists who’ve expanded their boundaries of exploration to form sound-worlds as big as their imagination, it’s also a work of magical realism in the tradition of Pan’s Labyrinth, The Company Of Wolves or the work of Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Haruki Murakami—in which the supernatural and otherworldly, lead to a shortcut to the essence of being human. Rashinban is a Japanese psychedelic rock band led by Seiichi Yamamoto who is well known as a guitarist of Japanese experimental/noise/space rock/tribal drumming band Boredoms. The album features a lineup of feel-good pop songs that are far removed from the noise-focused expression that Seiichi Yamamoto has shown in his previous works in his other bands, such as Boredoms and Omoide Hatoba. However, beneath the gentle melodies, there is still a tingling tension and a sense of insanity.

Rashinban released their 2nd album called "Seika" in 1998. The vocals are as unarticulated as if the spoken word and naturally assimilate into the song itself. If a pop song is a kind of mimicry, this album perfectly fulfills the role. You can't catch the outlines of the songs even if you look closely. But it is not ambiguous. From "Seika," a song that evokes a deep affection for the Beach Boys, to "Acoustic," a folk song that would be rude to call it neo-acoustic, to the new wave "Cool Down," it is as if we are tracing Seiichi Yamamoto's itinerary as a listener, It has no drama and no climax. But once you get caught up in the song, it will be stuck in your head forever.

THE FIRST LIVE RENDITION OF THE WORLD FAMOUS TUBULAR BELLS! Mike Oldfield was a member of rock-band Barefoot for a while, and then became bass player for Kevin Ayers’ backing group The Whole World. He also played on an album by the Edgar Broughton Band, worked as reserve guitarist in the London production of Hair, and gigged with Alex Harvey. Then he met Richard Branson. Working at Branson’s recently acquired Manor studios as a backing guitarist, Oldfield played some of his own tapes to Branson’s engineer Simon Draper, who played them to Branson – Branson then offered Oldfield a six-album deal with his new label Virgin Records. Tubular Bells was released on 25 May 1973 as the first album on the Virgin label. The title track became a top 10 hit single in the US after the opening was used in the 1973 movie The Exorcist. Virgin now decided to organise a live performance of Tubular Bells at London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall to promote the LP. Oldfield assembled a line-up to perform the music that on record he’d all-but single-handedly created. Mick Taylor, then still with the Rolling Stones played, alongside David Bedford, Robert Wyatt, Steve Hillage and members of the band Henry Cow – all of whom, save for Taylor, ended up making records for Virgin subsequently. At a later date Mike was to comment that he was unhappy with the performance adding, “I stood on the stage at the end of the concert and looked at the audience, and they looked at me. And do you know what they did? They actually applauded. I was amazed. I hated that concert”. However, the assembled masses who witnessed the first live rendition of this ground-breaking record disagreed, and Mike Oldfield’s preconceived ideas about the project not working were totally unfounded. The concert was recorded for live radio broadcast both in the UK and across the US, where it was synched by a number of networks and is now at last available on vinyl! SIDE A1. Stain monsters was founded in 1988 by Stein Monstad and HP Gundersen, who were both working at the legendary Bergen hangout-spot Cafe Opera at the time. They were good friends who came from two completely different worlds when it came to music. Stein was into early synthesizer music like Gary Numan & John Foxx, HP was more into polished pop a la Steely Dan. What they had in common was the love for some sixties and early seventies acts like Electric Light Orchestra, Tyrannosaurus Rex, late Beatles and Flying Burrito Brothers. They started a band called Stain Monster band and performed songs from mainly that period with a personal twist. Their first album was released in 1991 and has a great cult status today. 2 years ago, they decided to record a new song to see if the magic still were there. And it absolutely was, big time!

First official vinyl reissue of this sought-after psychedelic folk-rock / Americana / SSW album from 1976.

Major Arcana was a group led by counter-culture Milwaukee icon JIM Spencer, featuring a revolving cast of musicians / collaborators. The core of the band was Jim Spencer (guitar, vocals); Randall Dubis (electric guitar); Michael Burdecki (bass, slide guitar) and Jim Kitchen (percussion, harmonica). They were helped in the studio by some friends / musicians like Sigmund Snopek III and Barry Patton among many others.

Released on Jim Spencer’s own private label (A Major Label, home also to Anonymous of “Inside The Shadow” fame), the album opens with the terrific psych-folk of “Western Wind” and closes with an acid-folk rendition of “Greensleeves”. In between, you’ll also find some blues rock, SSW ballads, jazzy bits…

File next to groups like Pearls Before Swine or Bermuda Triangle.

"Graveyard Club Music" Moku. Selected and edited two self-produced EPs, and announced the first nationally distributed album "MokuROKU / MokuROKU 2". The four-piece band "Moku" sings pure Japanese lyrics that are strongly influenced by folk music over a gloomy dance beat that makes ghosts dance. The dub elements, which are as deep as the roots in the ground, seem to take them in a completely different direction from the artists who came before them, while still retaining the dim but tasteful psychedelics of Shintaro Sakamoto and Kikagakumoyo.

Peter Green’s genius has its main roots in musical influences from a childhood spent in London’s working class East End. This intense collection features several of his best successes with the 1968-70 Fleetwood Mac — before their move towards pop stardom – and some interesting tunes from his tormented solo career throughout the 70s and the 80s.

The short but intense initial phase of Jumbo’s career, marked by the release of three albums in 1972/1973, revealed their distinctive approach to Italian progressive rock and rapid artistic growth.

“Vietato ai minori di 18 anni?”, released in 1973, represents the peak of this era, showing the band’s evolution from an English beat-related beginning to a more mature and meaningful work for Italian prog fans.

The album stands out for its investigation of controversial and taboo themes, such as physical and psychological discomfort, prostitution and alcoholism. Alvaro Fella, with his lively interpretation and touching lyrics, gives the songs an intense and captivating edge.

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of this masterpiece’s release, Jumbo were invited to the prestigious Prog and Frogs festival, where they performed the entire album live, enriching the experience with interesting explanatory introductions for each track. During the show, Jumbo amazed the audience, displaying the same drive and passion as they used to fifty years ago.

DSD was founded in the beginning of the Earth year 2011 in Oulu, Finland, on band members’ mutual love for 60’s and 70’s kraut, prog and psychedelic rock. This is the 6th full length album (4th on Space Rock Productions) by the Finnish Space Rock masters from the north! It features 6 high energy space rockers, originally released digitally in April 2023 but now it appears on Vinyl. It features several special guests including Dr Space from Øresund Space Collective. The album opens with the high energy track ‘Spaced and Confused’, with the classic DSD sound and vibe. ‘Beyond the Cosmic Wall’ has a bit of a Kingston Wall vibe and quite a psychedelic mix. ‘Void Oscillations’ is a very spacey and floating number. ‘Indigo Blue’ starts side B with a more mellow vibe for the first 3 mins and then rocks into a cool spaced out jam. ‘Matkalainen’ is sung in Finnish and features some nice flute playing on this great track. The album ends with ‘Nymphaea Tetragona (Forever Floating)’ a more relaxed track, but the end has this sort of heavy bluesy stoner vibe. Cool way to end the album. Another classic space rock record.

The instrumentalists in the band, featuring trumpet and trombone, really give the music a unique flavor, setting them apart from the multitudes of other American psych bands. Ars Nova might be likened to Ultimate Spinach (but without the overly serious, pretentious lyrics) or later Zombies (though with less emphasis on the keyboards).

Stone Garden started in a basement studio in Prague with a nearly continuous session over several days and nights. The original concept was influenced by the raw and seemingly endless jams of psychedelic pioneers. The freeform songs that emerged from these sessions were refined over several months at the band's home in Tokyo where each song was sculpted into an uncommon form.

Compared to the relatively song-based House In The Tall Grass (2016), Stone Garden is a window into Kikagaku Moyo’s more experimental side. While improvisation is essential to their songwriting process it can take on many forms. This record enabled the band to experiment not only with instrumentation but also atonality and a playful approach to mixing. The unexpected results have become five unique songs each woven together through the same process.

The album opens with the high energy track ‘Spaced and Confused’, with the classic DSD sound and vibe. ‘Beyond the Cosmic Wall’ has a bit of a Kingston Wall vibe and quite a psychedelic mix. ‘Void Oscillations’ is a very spacey and floating number. ‘Indigo Blue’ starts side B with a more mellow vibe for the first 3 mins and then rocks into a cool spaced out jam. ‘Matkalainen’ is sung in Finnish and features some nice flute playing on this great track. The album ends with ‘Nymphaea Tetragona (Forever Floating)’ a more relaxed track, but the end has this sort of heavy bluesy stoner vibe. Cool way to end the album. Another classic space rock record.

Guitarist-singer Pappo aka Norberto Aníbal Napolitano (1950 – 2005) is one of his country's biggest rock legends, who also managed to make a career outside his home country. He was there right from the beginning of Argentine rock, as guitarist of the first version of Los Abuelos de la Nada, Conexión Nº 5, Engranaje and Los Gatos, the band that made Argentine rock a household name thanks to the success of their first single, “La Balsa”, which sold more than 200.000 copies in 1967.

Jorge Álvarez (co-founder of the first Argentinian independent rock label Mandioca) encouraged Pappo to develop his own music. What followed was the formation of the first version of Pappo’s Blues in 1971, a trio that had Pappo himself on guitar and vocals, David Lebón on bass and Black Amaya on drums. Their self-named debut album was an unqualified success among the ever-growing audience of Argentine rock. It contained a bundle of all-time classics such as “El hombre suburbano” (The suburban man), “El viejo” (The old man) and “Adónde está la Libertad” (Where is freedom?).

Pappo’s Blues (1971, also known as “Volume One”) introduced a new element to Argentine rock: a harder rock and blues sound, combined with intelligent and sensitive lyrics with centered on the vicissitudes of a typical young man trying to live life according to his own rules, surrounded by the mores of an intolerant society. The arabesques of Pappo’s guitar, complemented by a solid and yet elastic rhythm section, made for an exciting and daring sound, where his trademark rock and blues sound also extended to embrace blues ballads and even excursions into psychedelia.

After a phenomenally successful series of gigs in December 2022 marking the 40 th anniversary of their debut album 'A Taste of Pink', the band decided to make some new music. The recording was completed in two days, one of them in Studio 2 at Abbey Road. Their preference for recording quickly hasn't changed since they recorded that first album as teenagers, also in two days, in 1982. Biography
The Prisoners formed when they were still at school in Rochester, Kent. Between 1982 and 1986 the band released four albums plus several singles and EPs. Inspired by the local Medway DIY music ethic, their debut 'A Taste of Pink' and 'The Last Fourfathers' appeared on their own label, Own Up Records whilst "The WiserMiserDemelza" was released on Big Beat (Ace Records) and "In From The Cold" on Countdown (Stiff Records).
They earned a reputation as an incendiary live act as they plied their trade around the UK and Europe, building up a dedicated following and unknowingly inspiring a generation of future musicians. Their unique sound, based on instantly memorable and melodic songs surfing on a seething wave of brutal guitar, attention-grabbing, up-front Hammond and head-pounding rhythms, made for an explosive evening of entertainment. It was a unique combination of the sonic assault and danger of The Who and 60's garage-punk, the soulful vocals and dynamics of the Small Faces plus the groove and danceability of Booker T & the MGs. Throw in the intensity, drive and insolence of punk rock, as well as an unabashed love for instrumental TV themes and you had a wonderfully off-kilter version of where the real cool kids were at in the early '80s…
Despite some brushes with 'success', the pressures of hard living on the road took their toll and they quit in September 1986. They left behind a legacy and a sound that was inspirational to many that followed. Not many under the radar bands of the 80's would merit chapters dedicated to them in biographies of such luminaries as Steve LeMacq and Tim Burgess as well as being name checked as Brit-Pop forefathers. Their original albums make regular appearances in 'Great Lost Albums' lists and continue in print to this day.
James Taylor subsequently went on to gain huge success as the best pure Hammond player of his generation with his jazz and funk quartet (jtq). His playing and sound undoubtedly played a massive part in restoring the popularity of his chosen instrument.
That work started in The Prisoners.
Graham Day and Allan Crockford, both together and apart, continue to the present playing music that has ploughed a similar furrow to The Prisoners in such combos as The Prime Movers, The Solarflares, The Gaolers, The Galileo 7 and The Senior Service.

The self-titled debut album by Last Plane Out (S-Rock/Border) will be released worldwide on vinyl and streaming platforms April 26, 2024.

The band: Last Plane Out is a duo consisting of Nils Erikson (music) and Anders Lundquist (lyrics). They describe their style as progressive pop: songs for those looking for some musical and lyrical chewing resistance, yet appealing to the casual listener.

Nils Erikson, based in Malmö, Sweden, is a Swedish singer, composer and multi- instrumentalist. He has released a number of solo albums, one of which was nominated for two Swedish Grammys (Newcomer of the Year and Male Artist of the Year). He has also released several instrumental works that have been streamed millions of times. In addition to that, Nils is the co-keyboardist and co-lead singer of the progressive rock band Karmakanic, led by longtime Steve Hackett bassist Jonas Reingold. Anders Lundquist, based in Stockholm, Sweden, is a lyricist, composer and bassist/guitarist, as well as a renowned music journalist. As the bassist and one of the two main songwriters of Swedish hard rock progsters band Future Elephants?, he released three acclaimed albums between 2016 and 2023.
