First ever legit vinyl reissue of this obscure Cosmic Disco / Balearic / Afro gem from Mexico, originally released as a private pressing in 1978 and featuring famous drummer Jesús Muñoz “Tilico”, a giant musician who appeared on countless recordings and accompanied famous figures like Paul Mauriat and Carl Tjader among many others.
Four superb long tracks including the Cosmic underground club classic “Ritual Song”.
Hot Pepper was a studio project created by Mexican drummer / producer /arranger Jesús Muñoz “Tilico” who in the late 70s decided to record an album in a disco-funk vein, helped by some of his friends who were top session musicians. “Spanglish Movement” was the result, written and produced by “Tilico”, released in 1978 as a tiny private edition housed in a fabulous Afro cover. Being “Tilico” an enormous drummer, you can expect here lots of heavy drums, congas and percussion, surrounded by crazy space synths, male-female vocals, Latin horns, Afro touches and occasional fuzz guitar.

33 minutes of pure, unadulterated, psychedelic Krautrock courtesy of PYRAMID: an obscure studio project produced by Toby Robinson aka The Mad Twiddler. These sessions were recorded circa 1975-76 in Cologne for the underground Pyramid label, which was operated by Toby and his friend Robin Page (the Fluxus artist). During that time, Toby worked as engineer and assistant at various studios in Cologne, including the famous Dieter Dierks studios, where most of the albums from the Ohr/Pilz/Cosmic Courier catalogue were registered. Having access to the studios during dead hours, Toby recorded lot of sessions just for fun without any commercial interest, featuring friends and musicians who frequented the studios and the underground art/music scene of Cologne. Some of these sessions were later relesed as hand-made vinyl micro pressings on his Pyramid label with help from artist Robin Page.

Obscure Dutch private pressing from 1977. Laid-back instrumental psychedelic / progressive sounds with jazz-funk-groove and abstract / experimental / Latin-indigenous touches. Stoned homemade atmosphere with treated / distorted electric & acoustic guitars, flute, electric piano, primitive drum machines / homemade electronics...Much in the vein of the experimental-underground scene of France & Germany during the early 70s but actually recorded and released in Holland.
Wild Havana was the project of guitar player Johan Smith, helped by his brother Cor on flute. Influenced by artists like Zappa and Herbie Hancock, Johan recorded the “Wild Havana” album at his home studio on a 4-track, using effect devices developed by himself, like a modified proto-drum machine taken from a Hammond organ. He also used effects like phase shifter, chorus, etc and experimented with putting wool on the guitar strings and electric effects on the mandolin. The result sounded like nothing else at the time.
Buried for many years, we’re excited to bring to life this unique album.

A glorious blend of Space-Rock, Kraut and Psychedelia courtesy of the mysterious Golem. Plenty of Hammond organ, analogue synths, ripping guitar, effects, trippy jams…“Orion Awakes” was recorded and produced circa 1976 by Toby Robinson a.k.a. Genius P. Orridge, while he worked as second engineer at the famous Dierks Studio in Cologne. Memories from those hazy times are sketchy but all leads to believe that the musicians featured here were well-known names from the Kraut scene under pseudonyms, recording 100% underground, non-commercial music under Toby’s guidance, just for fun.

Apparently, “Orion Awakes” was released as a very limited hand-made pressing housed in a silver foil sleeve on the Pyramid label, which was ran by Toby and his friend Robin Page, the Fluxus artist. No original copies have ever been found. The fascinating liner notes by Kraut expert Alan Freeman talk about seeing an original copy of Golem at a record shop in Germany many years ago and he also sheds some light on who could be the real musicians involved, as well as discussing the controversial story of the Pyramid label and the accusations of Golem being a manufactured 90s “fake” instead of a real vintage 70s recording.

One of the biggest rarities from the cosmische kraut underground scene has to be Hardy Kukuk’s lost 1981 top Berlin School electronic masterpiece Atemnot. Kukuk’s synth explorations take the adventures of masters of the genre like Tangerine Dream or Klaus Schulze one step further into the early eighties. Kukuk is joined on these recordings by Andreas Schneider on guitar and congas and Klaus Bloch (of A La Ping Pong fame) on guitar and tape effects.

After Atemnot Kukuk recorded a second LP, Timeless, before joining forces with Matthias Culmey in the early 2000’s to form the electronic duo Beatboys 2000.

The Wah Wah reissue comes with remastered sound and housed in a faithful reproduction of original private pressing sleeve. It also includes an insert with cool photos and liner notes.

Psychedelic Garage & Heavy Psych From The Golden Voice Label'. If you think that all the cool & obscure U.S garage-psych 45s have been already exhumed, please listen to this! Golden Voice was a custom label and state-of-the art studio based in Pekin, Illinois. In the 1960s-'70s, countless garage bands from the area recorded there, releasing custom-made 45s in very limited quantities. This vibrating scene had not been documented, 'til the release of this 15-track compilation. The music here is prime cut hard psychedelia, punk-a-delic sounds and proto hard-rock from the late '60s-early '70s with lot of fuzz-wah guitars, groovy organs and effects. All tracks are taken from obscure 45s and previously unreleased master tapes.

The norwegian group Boastein was founded by Are Storstein and Øistein Boassen in 1970. Boastein's debut album "Jeg har min egen luke" became something of a holy grail within alternative music in Norway. This is DIY rock from the anarchist basement with a sound and lyrics that was quite groundbraking when it came out. It was also one of the very first independent releases in Norway. The album can be described as free and progressive underground rock filled with dark humor, political sting and a good amount of weirdness. The record was first released in 399 copies in 1977.

Masked Turnip compiles songs and tunes that Frank Zappa was involved with in various ways before he became known as the leader of the Mothers Of Invention. For several years prior to the Mothers becoming MGM-Verve recording artists, Frank was associated with the Pal Recording Studio, whose owner and operator was Paul Buff. It was here, in Cucamonga, under Buff's tutelage, that Frank learned how to use a studio to create music, as opposed to simply writing dots on paper. Frank later bought the studio from Buff and renamed it Studio Z, but all of the contents of this compilation were recorded before that happened. Frank's contribution to these tracks was either as musician, singer, writer or producer or a combination of some or all of these roles.

Basically, this is blues derived rock. But as many of the best progressive bands, Gravy Train did not try to reinvent the wheel, or make the wheel a symphony. A fresh turnaround here, an expansion of a bridge there, and the form was new with only subtle modifications. Next up on Feral Child sees an absolute beast of a full length; the debut wax outing for the whacked out, psych sounds of Melt Plastic Group. A uniquely fresh take on mind melting psych grooves and kraut jams, hugely ambitious and constantly inventive and evolving…. In the bands’ own words, they describe themselves and the album as “channelled onto wax via three humans from Brighton and Hove; inspired by the uniquely warped vision of former Sunlight Service Group frontman Willy Robinson, who lives in Hove but opts to inhabit a universe where tentacled aliens hang out with talking vegetables against a backdrop of brutalist 1970s concrete”. Sandy Bull’s unorthodox approach to guitar was as unique as his personal circumstances. Son of jazz harpist Daphne Hellman and brother to the sitarist Daisy Paradis, Bull became part of the bourgeoning Greenwich Village folk circuit. A move to San Francisco in 1963 found him sharing an apartment with Nubian oud master, Hamza El Din, which had a profound effect on his playing, spurring early world music experiments. The previously unreleased Live In San Francisco features bluesy electric ‘Memphis, Tennessee’ and ‘Instrumental Blues,’ plus the abstract ‘Untitled Instrumental’ and ‘Solo Experimental,’ all classic morsels of Bull wizardry.

With co-founder Richard Harvey on recorders, mandolin, harpsichord, and glockenspiel and Brian Gulland, on bassoon, crumhorns, and vocals, backed by guitarist Graeme Taylor and drummer/percussionist Dave Oberlé, Gryphon expertly channelled contemporary English folk through forgotten medieval and Renaissance styles; unlike later rock-oriented work, Gryphon showcases the band’s unadorned beginnings.

Suffering from depression and other mental health issues, Farren teamed up with an all-star cast, including members of Quartermass and ex-Tyrannosauros Rex honcho Steve Peregrin Took for debut opus Mona The Carnivorous Circus, mixing hard rock, spoken word, spaced-out interludes, radio cut-ups and garage rock, rendering a work as compelling as it is hard to classify. Strange, delightful and a favourite of Julian Cope, this is an aural journey to savour.

Exact Repro OF THE Original With 4 Bonus Tracks. Japanese country rock act Gypsy Blood must be heard to be believed. Released on Vertigo in 1971, their sole LP showed the group simply bursting with talent, Kiyoshi Hayami’s mandolin exceptional and the masterful soft-rock production courtesy of Miki Curtis; drummer Eiichi Tsukasa had earlier been in the Helpful Soul, organist Katsuo Ohno had been in the Spiders, and guitarist/vocalist Hiroaki Nakamura later played in Buzz with future YMO member Yukihiro Takahashi, while none other than Alan Merrill of ‘I Love R‘n’R’ fame completes the picture on piano. A beautiful album, and a very rare beast!

After exiting Buster Summers Express, Leeds-based songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Derek Noy formed Jan Dukes De Grey with woodwinds player, Michael Bairstow, soon opening for Pink Floyd and the Who, though LPs Sorcerer and acid folk masterpiece Mice And Rats In The Loft sold poorly. After line-up changes, in 1977, Noy assembled a new crew for Strange Terrain, cut at Brittania Row with Roger Waters co-producing, but the album’s curious mix of post-prog, acid rock and punk was deemed unsuitable for release until 2010! This edition comprises the complete original LP, just as delivered at its time of recording. Essential!

First ever reissue!! Psychedelic Latin-funk holy grail from Nicaragua, 1974!! Poder del Alma (“Soul Power”) was a supergroup formed by some of the best musicians from the Nica scene. This all-star band of nine members was assembled to play at the famous free concert of Santana in Managua in benefit for the 1972 earthquake. After that successful gig supporting the Latin-Rock superstar, what was to be a one-night stand became the seed of the most loved Nicaraguan act from the 70s. All the members had already played an important role in the history of the Nica music / hippie scene in the 1960s. Among them, we can find Román Cerpas (previously on Bwana), René “Chapo Domínguez (Los Rockets), Edgar “El Gato” Aguilar… A few months after the Managua concert with Santana, Poder del Alma traveled to Guatemala to record their first long play for Dideca (Discos De Centroamérica, S.A.) in just one week of recording sessions. Despite the low budget and precarious recording equipment, the band managed to obtain a powerful psychedelic / afro / funk-rock sound full of electric guitar, heavy drums, hot, percussion, horns, Spanish male/female vocals…featuring titles like “El Valle del Ayatimbo”, “Ia-Taa Yo”, “Zúmbale”…

Dee Dee Ramone I.C.L.C. (Inter-Celestial Light Commune) was formed by Dee Dee and John Carco in 1994 in New York City. After several live shows and drummers as a the three piece line up the two members decided to move to Amsterdam to record for Rough Trade Records. New reissue of the Stonewall Noise Orchestra legendary album Constants In An Ever Changing Universe with brand new Colored Vinyl by Heavy Psych Sounds. It was quite chaotic putting this album together. It’s recorded in 5 different locations. Rehearsal rooms, a living room, a super professional studio, high and low really. I guess it was quite a challenge for Robert Ekholm to do the mixing. It was also some personal challenges at the time which resulted in John Hermansen doing the vocals. John is an incredible singer and an awesome dude, we’re very thankful he helped us keeping the band rolling. The album was supposed to be released earlier than it was but due to all kinds of stuff out of our control it took some time. In the middle of this chaos was the music, the constant in an ever changing universe. It’s an album we’re proud of and we still play many songs from it live.

Lee thrives on complication and contradiction: he performs songs from every Love album (including a particularly caustic 'Bummer in the Summer' from Forever Changes) as a means of acknowledging his past glories as well as his fraught history. Live, this version of Love sounds like a band mustering the conviction to take on the world one more time. But they never did: Lee disbanded the line-up shortly after the tour. Historical Graffiti is the band’s fourth full-length, out in 2016. Gary Arce, the guitarist, seems comfortable sitting on a single vamp throughout the opener ‘The Wind Cries Edalyn’, allowing the additions of violin and bandoleon accordion (played by the tango musicians Sara Ryan and Adolfo Trepiana, respectively) to weave melodies in between. Despite the titular connection to the Jimi Hendrix song, it bears no discernible resemblance to ‘The Wind Cries Mary’ and it is a deceptive number; what seems such a simple, almost easy-listening song reveals more colour with every listen. ‘Her Phantom Finger of Copenhagen’ is slightly darker and almost sounds, with the slight distortion on Arce’s guitar, as if it could have come from Pot Head, the EP the band released in 2005. Mario Lalli, the bass player, begins the third song, ‘Naomi Crayola’ with a throbbing single note, aided by Bill Stimson’s metronomic drumming. Imagine if Can grew up near the beach, it’s that sort of vibe. The only problem with the song – and the album, as it happens – is that it is too short. Ryan’s violin returns in ‘The Secret Language of Elephants’, this time playing the role of keeping the main vamp alive while Arce’s guitar generates an evocative soundscape that opens in your mind a wide, violet sky like that above a desert the moment after the sun disappears for the night. The closing song and title track is the most free of the five on the album, with Stimson’s beat conjuring memories of Kyuss’s more mellow moments from Welcome to Sky Valley, Lalli’s bass marking the simplest of bottom ends and Arce having a ball over the top. Fully licensed, ltd to 500 copies, 180 gr. 1970 the year prog rock broke ! A time Before This was the sole album of british cultish band Julian's Treatment. Fronted by sci-fi author/keyboards player Julian Jay Savarin the band became an extra-cult because of their lyrics and arrangements extravaganza. Savarin – who later embraced a solo career - was born in Dominica and moved to Britian in the early Sixties. He started rehearsing with John Dover (bass), Del Watkins (guitar), Jack Drummond (drums) and Australian born Cathy Pruden (vocals). In june '70 the label Youngblood released their first album "A Time Before This". Based after a survivalist concept the album still stands as an original artefact of the time, still maintaining a sort of baroque feel. Leader Savarin keyboards maybe all over the place (with that sort of proto-hard church organ feel), but a virtuoso rhythm section and the vocal performance of Cathy Pruden (imagine a crossing line between Julie Driscoll and Grace Slick) give the record an embraceable feeling overall.

Another unsung hero of the long lost british prog history, Julian Jay Savarin is a keyboard player and composer, poet and science fiction author, hence the association with the most epic and romantic tendencies of the genre. He was born in Dominica (an island between Martinique and Guadeloupe in the Caribbean) and moved to the UK in 1962. He debuted in 1970 with Julian's Treatment, a short-lived progressive rock band which his sole album - A Time Before This - soon became a sought after collector's item. Julian went solo in 1973, before leaving the musical scene all of a sudden. Waiters On The Dance was definitely his own creation, a narrative masterwork with sumptuous arrangements. Produced by Miki Dallon (founder of independent label Young Blood) and brought to life with members of Julian's Treatment and singer Lady JoMeek, the album is a mysterious and transcendental opera. Waiters on the Dance sounds like a science fiction concept album of sort. Some of the songs rely on long form suite (the two-part "Child of the Night" and "Dance of the Golden Flamingoes" both lasting nearly nine minutes), suggesting an ideal trance state. Relying on heavy Hammond organ and hard-blues reminiscence, the album stands on his own offering occasional parallelism with Brian Auger & The Trinity and the more eclectic folk-revival. A true rare gem.
