1991 was a transition year in the format wars, and the CD release of Love’s Secret Domain utilized the longer running time of the format to offer 13 tracks instead of 9. For our Deluxe Edition we’ve split these full tracks across 2 LP’s in a completely separate pressing that features the expanded 13 tracks. Remastered by Josh Bonati from original source materials, the Deluxe Edition includes a booklet with liner notes from Drew Daniel (Matmos) and quotes from Stephen Thrower, Rose McDowall, Steven Stapleton, Charles Hayward, Billy McGee, Marc Almond, Andy Wombwell and Annie Bandez. Like the Standard Edition, the Deluxe Edition will be available in both Black and a color variant but the expanded 2LP set will not be repressed after this run. When they’re gone, they’re gone.

"The New Backwards" was conceived by Peter "Sleazy" Christopherson in 2007, revisiting stray

tracks which hadn't seemed to gel with the material he had chosen for the more somber "Ape of

Naples" from 2005, Coil's initial posthumous release, a sort of requiem and a kiss-goodbye to

his then recently deceased partner John Balance.

Significantly different to its sister release, this album collects the brilliantly chaotic and outrage-

ously rhythmic material from the original sessions for the album that was begun as early as 1993

and had originally been conceptualised as the follow-up to "Love's Secret Domain".

These songs are as diverse and wild as the places they originated from, partly infamously

spawned in Sharon Tate's former home in the Hollywood Hills, the Nine Inch Nails home base

in New Orleans and London's Swanyard, remixed and restructured with the help of long-term

friend Danny Hyde in Thailand, this collection has its own unique flow and an atmosphere not

found on any other Coil release.

Both "ayor" and "Backwards" had by the time the album was first released already become

favourites in Coil's manic live performances. Some of the other tracks had only leaked in

demo versions and are here presented updated and polished as Christopherson and Hyde

intended them to be heard. It is interesting to consider Balance's vocal contributions, too.

Whilst on the albums Coil did release at the time, this material was first put aside ("Black

Light District" and "ElpH") his voice is all but absent, his vocal performances and his lyric

writing here are arguably more closely indebted to the previous "Love's Secret Domain" era,

especially the epic "Copacaballa" is noteworthy in that respect.

The New Backwards" effectively became the final official Coil studio release of all new

material whilst Peter was still alive and is here presented for the first time fully supervised by

Danny Hyde, its co-creator.

It is high time to rediscover this timeless album with the Infinite Fog release boasting eight

further tracks of previously unheard material from the same sessions, rough working stages

and surprising remixes which will surely delight the dedicated Coil archaeologists, as they

shine yet another light on the creative process and on what could have been.

In 1991, Coil released the third of their early classic full-length albums “Love’s Secret Domain”, seemingly casting aside the gloom and funereal beauty of its predecessors in favour of a painstakingly multi-layered hallucinogenic electronic beast, which unlike some of their fellow ex-industrial contemporaries’ releases of the time wasn’t an attempt at easy accessibility or (the-gods-forbid) danceability, but a vibrating psychedelic masterpiece unrivalled in their discography and still a landmark album.

To mark its 30 year anniversary Infinite Fog are beyond proud to present an expanded, fully remastered re-release of this fan favourite available for the first time ever in its entirety on vinyl with 10 rare and mostly unreleased tracks and alternative versions from the period added as a bonus to a luxurious 3LP/2CD set.

Love’s Secret Domain contains among its many highlights the Lynchian William Blake tribute of its title track and the intoxicating single “Windowpane”, original versions of the later Coil live staple “Teenage Lightning” and the majestically warped classicisms of “Chaostrophy”. Marc Almond guests on the Typhonian “Titan Arch” and This Heat’s Charles Hayward provides some amazing drum stylings.

This album is Coil pushing their sound ideas and probably their sanity to their very limits. Beyond the iconic Steven Stapleton cover art here reproduced in unseen definition the doors of perception still open wide for both long-term Coil aficionados and new-comers to this supremely innovative release to explore unknown depths. The long-overdue re-release illustrates how far ahead of the curve Coil were with the sounds on this album, which still sounds as fresh and mind-blowing as it did back in the early 90s.

The Ape Of Naples is Coil's highly celebrated final album completed by Peter Christopherson following the tragic death of Jhonn Balance in 2004. Often noted for being a fan favorite, The Ape Of Naples uses Balance's final recordings and material recorded at Trent Reznor's studio in New Orleans to create a deep, heavy masterpiece.

This first printing of 2000 copies is packaged in a heavy duty case wrapped, tip-on style jacket with Ian Johnstone's original artwork coated in a custom spot gloss. Each LP is house in a printed inner sleeve and side D contains all three original etchings. Ape's lyrics are spread across the gatefold.

CLEAR PURPLE VINYL 2023 pressing of "Coil Presents Black Light District: A Thousand Lights In A Darkened Room".During the transitional period in which Coil's primary leadership (Peter "Sleazy" Christopherson and John Balance) reorganized their creative direction by taking on new membership in the group through their inclusion of Drew McDowall, Coil took a drastic turn towards the metaphysical unknown. Employing the subtle handiwork of Coil's "real life" members, as well as cleverly guised aliases and spiritual collaborators, the band chose to filter their identity through the nome de guerre, "Black Light District," setting the precedent of Coil's future exploration of otherworldly influence.Recorded during the Winter of 1995/96, Black Light District leans more on their formal avant-garde pursuits and academic interests rather than their industrial pedigree resume. Starting off with an obvious nod to John Cage with their introductory "Unprepared Piano", the tone is prepared in exactly the same way_ unpredictable. Conceptually abstract, 'Black Light District' shows Coil's old guard disregarding the pop rhythms found on previous albums, such as 'Love's Secret Domain,' and fully embracing their experimental electronic trajectory. Subtle patterns of looping melancholy and malaise are placed delicately underneath ghostly electronic timbre. Approaching their creative method as something from the beyond, another realm in which sounds blur and performers seemingly appear from the ether.
