"The nearly infinite improvisational potential in my performances is a result of tweaking the technology, using it in unpredictable ways, musically exploiting it, and maybe even misusing it." - Svetlana Maraš
Composer, sound artist and musician Svetlana Maraš has spent years developing her unique setup for live performances. She builds her live sets as frameworks for exploration by emphasising the sculptural and improvisational potential, rather than reproducibility. The core of Maraš' performative practice lies in the accessibility of all layers of what a 'musical image' at any given point consists of, and gestural manipulation of these layers.

Using micro samples as a basis of her musical vocabulary, Maraš treats her live setup equivalent to an acoustic instrument. Using tablet controllers running a self-built 'Touch Osc' interface, pedals and different pressure- based interfaces, she manipulates and morphs the material with the mindset of a sculptor, while exposing herself to the audience and the room. Her focus lies on the musical form and structure, while the shape of the sounds projected into the performance space define which turn she might take next. Maraš explains: "I am interested how sounds fill up the room, how they spread, how near or far they are, how 'big' or 'small' they seem, how they morph and move." With the set she played from 2019 to 2020, Maraš had reached an extreme regarding the handling and manipulation of micro samples and micro-collaging. -ous is releasing a live recording of this set as deep dive into the vast possibilities of live sound manipulation.

Svetlana Maraš is composer and sound artist active in the field of experimental music. Her work, which she presents internationally, encompasses variety of formats such as live performance, electro-acoustic composition, sound installations and works for the radio. She is the winner of the most prestigious Serbian composition prize "Mokranjac", awarded by the Serbian Composers' Association. From 2016-2021, she was composer in residence and artistic director at Radio Belgrade's Electronic studio, where she established numerous programs such as artistic residencies, educational courses and most notably, restoration of EMS Synthi 100. Currently, Maraš is Professor of Creative Music Technology and Co-head of Electronic Studio at Hochschule für Musik Fhnw, Basel.

Repress alert! In the four years since legendary Italian producer alexander Robotnik dropped his Undicidisco ep on hell yeah, it has become a cult classic.

The big room Italo beats have become modern staples and regular fixtures in sets by the likes of Gerd Janson, Peggy Gou, Prins Thomas, Dixon and many others around the globe. Because of this, original 12" versions are highly sought after but rather than paying inflated prices, you can now get your hands on this re-issue.

The original track here dates back to a coast to coast 12” in 2013. It became a big regular tune for the Balearic Gabba Sound System crew back then before the wider scene picked it up and made it into favourite it is now.

'Undicidisco' still sounds wildly original and wonderfully unique today with its trippy melodic leads and chunky drum slaps.

There is also a rugged cosmic mix from Prins Thomas, a raw and unhinged Bawrut version and swirling ambient and downtempo fusion from Irish outfit the vendetta suite to complete this package.

Meg Ward has spent years formulating a special relationship with underground culture in the North of the UK and was appointed one of BBC Music's 'Tips For 21' in the North East. Top tier tackle from Heels & Souls Recordings for their fourth reissue as they let loose a much anticipated double header, Gold In The Shade’s 'Over You' backed with 'Shining Through'. Rough, tough, straight-from-the-heart ‘90s street soul, coming courtesy of TSR bossman Robert Roper and the Gold In The Shade ladies Arletta Davis and Sonia Johnson. One of the most sought-after cuts of this scene, it encompasses much of what made street soul special - heavy bass, gritty breaks, emotive chords and off-kilter vocals, marrying together to form a snapshot of a raw DIY scene with optimism at its heart.

The trio’s first single from 1990, ‘Shining Through’ is a no nonsense, bassbin-rattling love song from the underground, seeing long-term friends Sonia and Arletta pulling on the heartstrings from the mic as Robert works his magic behind the studio controls.

Lovingly remastered from the DAT by Cicely Balston, if only ‘Over You’ had been so easy. Two years of endless searching for the tape and subsequently a clean copy of the record, Heels & Souls even went to the lengths of having the multitracks restored so that Robert could attempt to recreate the original mixdown in the studio – but the magic of ‘91, unfortunately, can’t simply be conjured at the drop of a hi-hat.

After all but losing hope, Sean P (by way of Backatcha’s Aiden Leacy), came to the rescue with a mint condition copy of the record that he had from running in the same circles as Robert and Duval back in the day, ripping and restoring it with a precision he’s rightly famed for. And so (finally!) here it is: distorted samples, low-fi hits, speaker rumbling bassweight and all. Raw to the core, but that’s the point – pure, unbridled emotion from the depths of North West London.

Fully licensed from Robert Roper, 20% of profits from Heels & Souls Recordings and Prime Direct Distribution will be donated to Lives Not Knives, a youth-led London-based charity, working to prevent knife crime, serious youth violence and school exclusions.

How many forms can a drum break take across the course of one EP? Needing little introduction are TIN mainstays Frankel & Harper who, with the help of Bakey, help us get to an answer. Buffalo Skank EP is a celebration of breakbeat. Whilst proving the duo's prowess in rhythmic variety, there is an emphasis on fun as they form complex drum patterns only for them to be chopped and screwed into myriad formations. At times, an Amen break is accompanied by blissed-out atmospherics borrowed from old school dnb ("Buffalo Skank"). At others, an unapologetic rhythm drives forward as if crushing anything in its way ("Oblivion"). On "Taz &" ricocheting snares evoke the music of junglist Sully before Bakey strips them entirely in favour of a more minimal sound.

Constant Sound co-owner James 'Burnski' Burnham delivers a stonking pair of garage-flecked house tracks that offer up no nonsense dancefloor attitude in spades. Lose Control’ is arguably one of the best songs written by Miguel Migs & Lisa Shaw - released in 2011 on the album ‘Outside The Skyline’ by Salted Music in partnership with Om Records. Italian house masters Micky More & Andy Tee provide a new package with three mixes to suit all tastes via their label, Groove Culture. Side A sees the vocal mix centred around a timeless Wurlitzer groove with a delectable bassline played live and an unexpected trumpet solo in the final part, all of which beautifully compliment Shaw’s dreamy vocals. First up on the flip, a dub version for the dancefloor featuring an infectious piano and bass groove. The package ends with the B2 a rhodespella version played by maestro Riccardo Burattini who wrote an emotional arrangement for Lisa Shaw's voice. All in all, a timeless record and a must have.

Providing the five-track Somethin’ For Tha Underground EP, two leading vocalists feature on the release in the form of esteemed reggae talent General Levy and American singer-songwriter Hadiya George.

Somethin’ For Tha Underground feat. General Levy begins proceedings. A tribal, old-skool leaning number, General Levy’s vocals add that signature jungle feel, as Mason’s four-four style marches on in the foreground. Ring Of Fire feat. Hadiya George comes next, manifesting as a soothing sunset cut packed full of emotive chords and warming strings throughout. The dub version soon arrives before Motherland ramps up the tempo courtesy of a rolling bassline and rampant kick-hat combos. Especial presents a 2 EP live concept collaboration with Berlin's Giraffi Dog. With live tours cancelled due the on-going changing world, the idea of bringing their live set to vinyl - an opera for your innerspace, while constrained from outerspace - was born.

Setting up Doom Chakra Tapes with DJ Deflektorschild in 2016, Max Webber's project first released the L'Existence Du Reve cassette album as a blueprint for the Giraffi Dog sound, with some tracks appearing on the acclaimed vinyl debut for Aiwo Recs, before a split 7" for the Warning label series followed.

Teaming up with friend Max Heesen Dessous, Poker Flat) to take the project live, their backgrounds in punk and hip-hop shine in their take on breakbeat driven club culture.

Recording live in the studio, as a different state of meditation, MCPs trigger drum machines, the duality of live synth and vocoder, while tape machines, reverb and FX looped, twisted and filtered for an inter-mind festival

Cut as a continuous mix, tracks like Concorida, Jam X and Multiverse, are a manifestation of their sets dropped from small basements in Berlin to fields in the outskirts of Paris, this first EP acts as a hypothesis for the parallel, the other, the alternate, the infinite.
