Who are the spirit fakers? What do they want? These are just two of the many questions posed by The Difference Machine on their 3rd full length album, 'Unmasking the Spirit Fakers'.

Loosely based on an essay by the master magician himself, Harry Houdini, 'Unmasking the Spirit Fakers' finds the Atlanta-based psychedelic hip hop outfit examining the motives and practices of those who attempt to provide cure-alls and treatments for spiritual ills. Are they gurus or snake oil salesmen? Though abstract in their approach, The Difference Machine attempts to pin down these answers for the listener via a vast backdrop rich with dense lyricism and mind-bending production. Songs like 'Repeater' and 'Flat Circles' place them in the role of shaman whereas songs like 'Car Key' and 'It Ain't' venture to ask if they themselves are the spirit fakers in question.

Regardless of what role the ensemble assumes, the album was crafted with the human psyche in mind. Poignant guest appearances from hip hop heavyweights such as Sa-Roc (Rhymesayers), Quelle Chris (Mello Music Group), Homeboy Sandman, Denmark Vessey, Dillon & Sum add more colors to the canvas. The only wish of The Difference Machine is that the listener is both entertained and enlightened by this auditory adventure. They hope whatever conclusion you come to will be through honesty and sincerity.

Perhaps one day we will all be unmasked.

Wolf’s Clothing is the culmination of a years-long undertaking into what beatsmith, Batsauce refers to as “Dark Jazz” – moodier textures; muted instrumentation; whispers within the kaleidoscopic rhythms; untold stories coming to life by way of bending bass and drums. This Is an intentional body of work inspired by the legends that Batsauce discovered during crate-digging expeditions to be repurposed into his familiar environs. Across 20 instrumental tracks, Batsauce assumes the duality of bandleader and sideman, pulling from the archives of the greats to present what is as true a representation of Jazz and Hip-Hop’s long standing synergy in the present day. Presenting to your ears and souls, Wolf’s Clothing.

Longtime stalwarts of the indie hip hop scene, Qwazaar (of Typical Cats) & Batsauce (The Smile Rays) have once again emerged with a project that is sure to cause an avalanche – Stoned Giant. Qwazaar's unorthodox approach as a lyricist finds the quintessential canvases in Batsauce's moodier, dustier brand of Boom Bap beats. The duo is flanked by Qwazaar's partners in rhyme, Hellsent (Chicago), as well as Typical Cats bandmates Qwel & Denizen Kane who form like Voltron for a triumphant reunion track. Not to mention, the album boasts guest verses from the impossibly funky, Willie Evans Jr. (Asamov) and Dillon (full Plate) who is also performs turntablist duties throughout the release. At its core, Stoned Giant is an eccentric exploration into the inner-workings of mankind's potential greatness, with convenient reminders along the way that the bigger we are, the harder we fall. Life gets rocky sometimes, so just drop the needle and let the dust settle.

Wherever it is that they’re going, longtime collaborators, Dillon & Batsauce have been ‘on their way’ for quite some time...but their debut full length of the same name has finally arrived. The culmination of a series of trips between Dillon’s lab in Atlanta & Batsauce’s homebase in Berlin, On Their Way has been years in the making - albeit in annual two week increments.
Despite their limited face time, the duo’s chemistry is the driving force behind this record. With Batsauce handling production duties and Dillon providing the penwork, they’ve drawn from the ups and downs of their travels and crafted their own personal soundtrack.Although their voyage begins with a confident send off, it quickly decays into a self deprecating exposè as they navigate the turbulent complexities of depression, sound off on societal failures & mourn for loved ones lost
along the way. But darkness isn’t their only destination and the album is not without its shining moments of triumph. A cutting sense of humor prevails as the two are steadfastly aware that the journey itself is its own reward.
Not to mention they brought an elite and eclectic cast of characters along for the ride. There are hip-hop heavyweights and indy all stars alike as Sadat X, Greg Nice, Count Bass D, Supa Dave West, Paten Locke, Qwazaar and Willie Evans Jr. all lend their talents during the trip. At the end of it all, you’ll know that On Their Way was worth the wait.

It was the early 2000's in Jacksonville, FL. Pre-social media, the Myspace Era. The acclaimed indie rap quartet, Asamov had recently put Duval County's underground Hiphop scene on the map, and their triple-threat frontman, Therapy aka Paten Locke was searching for some new inspiration. Paten would find the spark he was looking for in the newly minted couple making 'Heavenly Noise' in Jacksonville nightclubs - Batsauce and his wife, Lady Daisey. With Batsauce on the beats and Lady Daisey providing vocal harmonies (and graphics for the group), Paten found himself surrounded by a new creative energy that allowed him to relinquish the reigns on the production side and focus on his pen-game. Thus, The Smile Rays were born and they immediately started shinin'. Their soundscapes were rooted in funk, jazz and soul - sticking to a similar formula of eras past but adding twists and turns to make it their own. Their lyrics & song concepts were uplifting and hopeful. Their chemistry on stage was undeniable. With their electric live show and eclectic makeup, the trio took Jacksonville by storm and the world took notice. Paten's experience with Asamov opened doors for the group and soon they had their first deal on the table - a 12" single with Germany's Jakarta Records for their beloved anthem for the babies, 'A Toast'. On the heels of their initial 12", they were enlisted for the 'Rawkus 50' and released their first EP. Soon to follow, Japanese label 'Subcontact' offered to release another 12" plus their debut full-length album. That release became Party...Place. and it was released in 2007 in Japan only, on CD. Now for the 1st time ever, the debut album from The Smile Rays is available on all DSPs + limited vinyl pressing. The album features George Clinton, Dillon and Willie Evans Jr. and is sure to be treasured by fans of eras past and those still yet to come.

Once again, Atlanta-based rapper/DJ, Dillon has teamed up with Grammy award-winning beatsmith and bonafide Hip-Hop legend, Diamond D on production duties; this time for a full-length album. Where their first collaborative effort, Black Tie Affair (2017), had a more polished approach, Uncut Gems offers a deeper glimpse of the Underground - a sound that Diamond D and his crew, D.I.T.C. helped define in the 90's and an aesthetic that Dillon came to embody in the early 2000's as a student of the era. Production-wise, Diamond's beats run the gamut both sonically and chronologically. Some were composed more recently with Diamond's current equipment & expertise, fully tracked out and able to be manipulated & mixed. Others range back to the late 90's, condensed down to chunky 2-tracks exported from the arsenal of beat machines that Diamond had at his dusty fingers. Armed with a pen as his pickaxe, Dillon is up to the challenge of chiseling this eclectic arrangement of beats into songs worthy of being examined like the uncut gems they are. By simplifying his skillsets down to the basic elements, Dillon digs ever deeper to compliment the gritty gems unearthed by Diamond. To add some luster they enlisted a roster of rap's finest including Elzhi. Planet Asia, Ras Kass, Stacy Epps & Slimkid3 of The Pharcyde. Dillon's blue-collar work ethic and quiet consistency have made him a beloved underdog of the underground and with Diamond D holding him down, he no longer can be overlooked. Behold, Uncut Gems.
