Radko – The Dirt On Caligula (LP, edition of 250 copies, risograph printed artwork (100 x teal paper, 75 x red paper and 75 yellow paper)) It took quite some time to realize this album by Radko… back in 2018 their debut single was released and then there was silence… so it seemed… but dedicated and devoted Radko continued to compose tracks and while doing this expanded their sound… what they came up with is an adventures contemporary/post-wave sound with lots of complexity in it is sounds and structures… but still these pieces are songs… meaning these tracks are daring but will never loose themselves in experimentation or becoming soundscapes… more or less gone (or just more hidden?) are the cold wave and shoegaze elements… these have been replaced with elektro, techno and industrial influences… and instead of dreamy and melancholy the sound is now much more haunting and dark… on the other hand this is very much Radko like on their debut 7”… but this album is just “next level”… despite this record is more complex the music is still addictive… it is asking for more and more plays all the time… and while their first record was already impressive this one is even more… How to define the music of Radko on “The Dirt On Caligula”? Maybe like a mix between the modern wave sound of Hord versus the complexity of the EBM/industrial music by Skinny Puppy? Possibly a bit like the debut album by Distel with a touch of the versatility and scope of the Nine Inch Nails remix releases “Fixed” and “Futher Down The Spiral”? These are at least some references that pop up and give an idea… But… in the end this is simply an amazing album with daring electronic beats and sounds… verry clearly rooted in the new wave / post-punk / industrial tradition but mostly a contemporary electronic music exercise which could (should?) appeal to everybody with an open mind and interested in dark beats…

OQL is back… her first EP on Gooiland, entitled “Hypatia”, is from a few years ago… and this new one is a totally different record… the abstract IDM influenced rhythms are still there but while the first one was rather industrial and even ritualistic in sound and mood this new EP called “Szkarady” has a cleaner sound… not clubby but there is more space in between the music… Still the tracks are intense… they all have a psychedelic / trippy quality due to the structure… tension is building up when the tracks are evolving… some of these tracks will work well for the dance floor but not for an average middle of the road techno audience… this EP is for heads… and that said… it works both for your body and mind… it is a head trip for sure…

Futuro de Hierro, hailing from Barcelona, is the project by one of the Màgia Roja label/club/community collaborators… mostly known for this work with Dame Area but his solo project Futuro de Hierro is equally (or more?) interesting… the loud repetitive broken beats, noises and powerful delivered Spanish vocals make up for a punk influenced industrial techno sound which borders rhythmic noise at times… like something in between Liaisons Dangereuses, Esplendor Geométrico and Sonar… This is an uncompromising EP filled with harsh tracks that still work for the dance floor… especially for those fed up with hearing the same beat over and over and over again…

(split 12″ EP, edition of 200 copies) Both Unhuman and Roberto Auser should be names that ring a bell… Unhuman is from Greece but residing in Berlin… with his music he is always bordering techno, industrial and noise… for Enfant Terrible/Gooiland Elektro he crafted two tracks which pay tribute to old school EBM and New Beat… slow and dark beats… with a post-punk attitude and a decadent touch which makes them perfect for the dance floor early in the morning… Roberto Auser has built a name of his own but still stays something like a best kept secret of the Dutch electronic music scene… this mainly due to his output which is never to be pinned to one specific genre or style… For this release he came up with two harsh pounding tracks with dark beats and industrial sounds and a true rave spirit… see you on the dance floor!
