Berlin, Germany, sometime early, early nineties. 3 MCs share a dream, a dream of taking this rap thing to the max. It wasn't long before Doubleface, Boogieman and Big Sal started making noise in the streets of the capitol and by the mid-nineties the band Harleckinz was a household name in Germany's rap music scene. It is these demos here which would eventually break the band and secure various major deals. The rest is history - yet another beautiful rap story originated in Hip Hop's golden era.

"90two90six" contains 25 never before released demo tracks and instrumentals recorded between 1992 and 1996 next to 5 tracks which have been originally released on "From The Levels Below".

With words as weapons and public infrastructure as his blank slate, John Fekner’s City Squad are always questing for the ineffable, even as they yearn for concrete change. Make no mistake, Idioblast is a serious party where everyone is welcome.

Released in 1984, Idioblast is a lost classic, a future shock narrative ahead of its time, and yet completely of its era, like few artifacts before or since. The cover tips you off from the jump—a crude but effective collage featuring classic Fekner slogans like Toxic Junkie, Growth Decay and Soft Brains Watch The Screen And Buy The Jeans. In an uncanny and tragic coincidence, the very first lyric on the album—“The place to be is on the space shuttle/if you’re brave enough to get on it”—seems to anticipate the Challenger disaster just two years later. But for the most part, the tracks on Idioblast directly reference the concepts that inspired Fekner’s visual art.

Musically, “Rapicasso” utilizes pneumatic pounding with an industrial edge as Fekner equates the great and controversial painter with risk-taking graffiti kids bombing trains and billboards across the city. Art is in a constant state of exploding—forms, paradigms, outdated ideas. Splitting the difference between hip-hop and new wave, the Santaniello-sung “The Beat” is like Thomas Dolby meets Run-DMC and should’ve been a radio staple for at least one sticky summer. It could soundtrack either a couples roller skate or a drug-fueled evening out.

Channeling Fekner’s slogan-stencil aesthetic, “Travelogue The 80’s” is a tour de force reminiscent of Negativland’s experiments in audio culture jamming. As Fekner details, “I grabbed all of the sounds via a shortwave radio picking up transmissions from LaGuardia airport and the TV. I recorded and edited on a Sony Pro Walkman and an Aiwa dual cassette deck.”

This is Apollo Brown's very first beat collection put together in 2007 a few years before winning the Red Bull Big Tune Championship in Detroit and then signing to Mello Music Group. The collection has been such a popular record around the Mello Music Group office for the past few years that we decided to make it available to everyone for a one time pressing on vinyl. Esbe is a multi-genre music producer from Los Angeles, California. He is known for his atmospheric instrumental production which incorporates sound elements from extensive use of jazz and soul samples. His latest release, Bloomsday, is a collection of 19 essential instrumentals. "If you were to grab tracks at random from Bloomsday, you might not have guessed that those songs came from the same album. However, when you listen to the album in the way that it was arranged, it will all start to make sense, and you can start to hear how Esbe connects the dots from one song to the next. Esbe draws from a lot of different styles and influences, whether it be soul, hard bop, cool jazz, bossa nova, boom bap, down tempo, jungle, house, or drum and bass, just to name a few. This might sound like he’s unfocused or trying to do too much with his music, but Esbe has a good sense for not overcrowding his individual tracks. Each song might bring in a couple of different elements, but he keeps his arrangements clean, with just the right amount of interesting samples to build from, and the patience to let them unfold at a steady pace, without forcing anything. There are plenty of obscure samples that you won’t place, but he also manages to pick a few key spots to drop some well-known samples, but then re-purposes them in interesting ways in which to give them new life. Bloomsday will take more than one listen to really sink in, but it will eventually sneak up on you and reveal its cleverness in really subtle and interesting ways. Step in the Arena is the second studio album by hip hop duo Gang Starr, printed as a 1990 release and commercially released on January 15, 1991. The album received critical acclaim and was also included in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. The Source magazine stated: “Step in the Arena stands alone on a musical level, yet it also remains true to hip-hop’s underground heritage.” In 1998, the album was selected as one of The Source’s 100 Best Hip Hop Albums.
